MyBook freezes and locks up iMac
Hello. My external HD (MyBook connected via USB 2.0) is freezing and locks up my iMac. I get the pinwheel and it requires a hard reboot -- not ideal. It seems to happen after waking from sleep. Any reason why this is happening and ideas on how it can be fixed?

sounds like you may have some file issues that need
addressing....
Shut down and restart your computer with the Command
key and the letter 's' depressed.
At the prompt type or copy and paste (don't forget
the space)
/sbin/fsck -fy
hit return key and wait for all clear to be displayed
then type.
reboot
hit return key
Check the pemissions are set
correct on the Apple installed software...
use 'Disk Utility' from Applications > Utilities >
select HD... select 1st aid. repair permissions...
if repairs are needed run again until none are
repaired... do not worry about messages 'we are
using special permissions etc... they are OK Quit
when finished.
Use
BatChmod to set correct permissions on your home
~ Music folder
This compact GUI will perform the same tasks as a
'terminal command line'
drag the complete Music folder with libraries
and iTunes Music folder inside to the BatChmod Icon
and drop....
check path is correct.... tick if not already....
Owner=R W X, Group=R, Others=R,
then tick 'Apply ownership and privileges' tick
'Unlock" ... click Apply...
provide password... all done very quick...
come back and let me know how it all goes now ... TP

For almost a year now, we have had a problem with our phones. They freeze and lock up and the only way to get them to work again is to reboot the device. You can't dial a number, text, open an app, or sometimes even get back to the home screen. Now, I believe there is a network issue or OS issue here and I hope someone can direct me to a way to fix it.
First, of all we have three phones and they are not all the same; two are Motorola Droid 3 and one is an HTC Thunderbolt. So I do not think this is a device issue.
Secondly, the three of us do not use our phones in the same way. My son and I have a lot of apps on ours but my husband does not. And my son and I do not have the same apps. So I do not think we have an app issue.
That leaves two things left; the network and the Android OS.
Does anyone have any suggestions that can help resolve these issues?

deirdre4I would back everything up and factory data reset. I've had both phones several years ago you may like them better with this type of refreshing

My hp 8200n pc freezes and locks up. how do i fix it?
My pavillion h8200n running Visat has started freezing and locking up. I have run eveyr system diagnostic, malware removal, and done system restore to no avail. Could this be an IRQ problem? How do I fix it please?

Our imac started buzzing and locked up. The only way to shut it down was to unplug it. After restarting, it seems to be ok. Any thoughts?
Sounds like maybe your disk drive is going bad. Try running AHT on the install DVD for you Mac to check it out.

ITunes Freezes and Locks Up Finder Bar
occassionally, iTunes app freezes and causes the Finder bar to freeze as well (clock freezes and I get the beach ball). I have to logout to fix the problem. I've tried trashing the clock file in the Library but that hasn't fixed the problem. Any other advice????

New apple tv update causes screen freeze and lock up
ever since i updated my apple tv to the new update, after X number of minutes, the screen will freeze. if i am listening to music, the music will keep playing but the screen is frozen. it doesn't matter if it is on screen saver or not, everything freezes and is non-responsive, but music is still playing. any ideas?
thanksI have the exact same issue. The screen will "freeze" but audio will still play. If you hit buttons on the remote you can hear that the interface is still working, but the screen is always frozen on whatever it was showing when the problem arose, making it unusable. It doesn't matter if I'm playing audio, video, or literally doing nothing but letting the menu sit there and the default screen saver kicks in: it will eventually freeze the picture on the screen and become unusable.
It has nothing to do with syncing vs. streaming, type of content, resolution, or connection type. I've tried changing all of that and the problem always occurs.
This basically means my Apple TV is unusable, but it was bought years ago so it's out of warranty. I like the product fine, but I obviously can't use an unusable product and I don't like it enough to buy a whole new one. Anyone?

IPhoto keeps freezing and locks up MacBook, uuugh, very frustrated!
Everytime I open iPhoto, my system freezes and I have to do a hard shutdown via power button. How do I get my photos moved elsewhere and the program removed?
Sounds like you may need to rebuild your library - hold the option and command keys on launch of iPhoto to get some options which may help you.

Oracle SQL Developer freezes and locks up computer randomly
I attempted to find a solution to this before posting. I looked through the first 40 pages of this forum and on Google, through the Developer documentation, etc. with no luck.
The problem: while using Oracle SQL Developer, the computer randomly freezes. Things work, but it hangs too often and for too long to use. This is random - it can happen every 10 seconds or every 2 minutes. The mouse will lock up, and the keyboard buffer will get all messed up. For instance, if it happens to freeze while I'm hitting "backspace", it will delete many lines of text (I've lost a bit of work because of this in the past). The freezing will last about 2 to 20 seconds, and the only way out of it is to ctrl+alt+delete and kill SQL Developer.
If SQL Developer is running, and I'm in a different window - it will freeze the other windows as well. Again, it's impossible to use unfortunately. My coworker doesn't have the same problem, and he's connecting to the same database with the same version using Windows Vista. It must be something on this computer. I reformatted about 1 month ago, so it's a pretty fresh install and I haven't installed much of anything yet.
I'm using Windows Vista Enterprise 32-bit w/SP1.
This was occurring with older versions of SQL Developer (1.2). I'm using the newest install that included the Java JDK. I've completely removed Java, my Oracle installs, and a host of other attempts to fix this, and nothing changes. I've tried running the .exe in the bin directory as administrator as well.
Currently using Oracle Developer 1.5.1.54.40.
Any ideas?I tried dumping the contents, but the java dump wasn't showing anything at all, and it would never freeze while I had the console window in focus, so it wasn't very helpful unfortunately.
I fixed this issue by uninstalling the Java runtime on this machine and installing the Java JDK 6 Update 7 from java.sun.com/javase/downloads . I then downloaded the SQL Developer 1.5.1 version without the Java runtime included, and pointed it to the Update 7 .exe file upon first load.
I was using JDK 6 Update 6 previously, and it must have been behind the errors. Note that the Update 7 has to be downloaded from that website as it's a new version that hasn't been posted on the regular java.com site yet.

Acrobat Pro 9.3 freezes and locks up computer
Something has gone VERY wrong with Acrobat 9.3 - every time I try to save or print anything, it not only locks up and stops responding but also causes Windows 7 to come to a screeching halt. Sometimes I can recover the Windows 7 crash without rebooting while at other times, I cannot. Right now, I NEED to find out what is causing Acrobat Pro 9.3 to crash. I've tried running all of the updates and nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Help!
When I open Distiller, I go to file>open and then change the file type to "all" - as the file I'm trying to open is a .pdf (which doesn't show up under file name in Distiller). When I try to open the .pdf, it crashes.
Acrobat crashes when I try to save or print a .pdf. It also acts up (sometimes) when I try to change/edit the .pdf. Regardless, if I can't save or print .pdfs, Acrobat is now useless. By "freezing" I mean that Acrobat completely locks up - the title bar (at the top) will often state that it is "not responding" and the window becomes "grayed out." Even worse, is that Windows 7 also comes to a screeching halt - if the computer doesn't completely lock up (meaning that NOTHING WORKS and I have to do a hard reboot by turning off the power), everything becomes VERY slow - it's becomes impossible to change windows and, even if the task manager is already open, I often can't shut down Acrobat 9. In the event that I'm finally able to do that (which is not always possible), then most of the other programs seem to work again.
Another problem that appears to be related is when I try to open up a .pdf in Outlook - that also seems to cause Acrobat to crash/lock up.
Hope this helps as I've done everything I can think of. -
External USB ejects and locks up iMac
I have a 27" Core i5 iMAC. Brand new machine that runs great. I am trying to transfer over my data from my PC to my new iMAC. The PC data is on several external UISB drives that are formatted NTFS. I have downloaded and installed the trial version of Paragon NTFS for Mac. When I connect the external drives, the iMAC sees them and their disk images show on the desktop. But then the drive spontaneously ejects, or the system locks up (requiring a hard reboot), or both.
Any ideas? Any logs to capture? I am very now to the Mac world and aren't exactly sure where to start troubleshooting this issue.

NealCheck the power supply and cables to the Dock and try a different USB port on the back of the iMac.
Also note: that you should not need third party NTFS software to read the Hard Drives, it is however required if you plan the write to them.

Personally if I found that the Dock wasn't playing well with the iMac, I might pick up a decent USB or FireWire External Hard Drive and while it is formatted "MS-DOS/FAT-32" transfer my data from the PC to the iMac and then reformat it "GUID Partition Table/Mac OS Extended" to use as a permanent backup drive for the iMac.

Does anyone know why my Micro keeps locking up....
Its happened twice,
The first time i had updated the firmware to a better version than what it came with in the box, I used it for a couple of weeks without any glitches or problems until one day it stopped responding. It wouldn't get past the Creative logo... I tried going through the reboot system and still nothing... i tried clean up... but it would freeze also... i tried formatting but it would never finish and trust me I waited a long time.... so I had to go through customer support. They couldn't fix the problem and they told me I must have a faulty item. I sent it back to them and they sent me another player. Now guess what? My player stopped responding again... I really don't want to send it back to them so they can go through the whole process again... WHAT CAN I DO SO IT WORKS? Someone please help....Unfortunately if the player is not responsi've there's nothing as a user you can do. You'll need to contact Creative Support again, and hopefully you won't have the same problem with your next player.

6288 music Player freezes and locks phone
My Nokia 6288 when I start the music player freezes. I goes into the music player says "starting music player" then freezes in that screen. I can press cancel to un freez it but that makes all the phones applications fail and then the phone will then turn off and not turn back on. The only way to reset it is to remove the battery. everything will then work until you try to start the music player again..
Had a simular problem, it got stable after a few trips to the Nokia service centre....

Itunes Match freezes and locks up my computer half way through step 2.
I have restarted over 10 times and it keeps stopping. How do I fix this or get my money and time back from Apple?
I same issue. locked at step 3 and has not changed. Cannot play music or use iTunes. Can't understand how apple continues to sell this app that clearly does not work. I will be visiting Apple store to have them sort out or refund my money.

i like to watch hulu I can get it started but then if i move my mouse or hit a key the whole thing locks up and i have to use alt, ctrl, delete and close the page that way.
Maybe your problem is caused by that particular add-on?
