MyCloud unit asking to install device driver?

I see a seemingly undocumented "Install" option when viewing my MyCloud device locally on the LAN using Windows Explorer (under Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) Click on "Network" in Windows Explorer's left pane; the computers + other devices Windows found on the network appear in the right paneThe MyCloud unit actually has two entries (icons), one under "Media Devices" and one under "Storage", but both behave the sameRight-click the icon and the first (and default) item in the pop-up menu is "Install" (having the little shield to indicate that it needs administrative access to run). If run, Windows tries to install a device driver, but that installation failed; Windows showed a "device driver installation was not successful" message stating that no driver could be found. The Windows event log showed that there were several prior steps involving a "UMbus" driver and service that _were_ successful.After "installation", that first/default choice in the right-click menu changes to "Uninstall" and whatever "uninstallation" it does completes with no errors reported. Just curious - what is that device driver - and is it actually needed for anything? Thanks,Richard

Installing just icons shouldn't need anything to do with the UMbus service or device enumeration on that "bus"... Wonder if it's something that could apply to WD storage devices that are accessible both directly-connected by USB and via a network (wired or wireless) - such as some of the "My Passport" devices - and has erroneously been (partially) included in whatever properties information the MyCloud device broadcasts or gives out when polled by a PC's "network discovery"? But local access to the shared folders or the device's dashboard certainly doesn't need that driver, so I shall just ignore it. :-) Regards,Richard

    have recently updated my ipad to iOs 5 and now all i have is the 'connect to iTunes' page even when i have connected

    be great ..

    Sounds like your i tunes set up on the windows machine is messed up.  Suggest you reinstall itunes again.   Drivers etc should be in the package.   A fair number of windows folks have firewall related time out issues, so turn the firewall off along with your antivirus when you do the i tunes download.

    This has nothing to do with Mozilla Firefox. Device drivers are with usb drivers most of the time.

  • Installing device driver every time I turn on the computer

    Every time I turn on my computer or plug in my iPhone 3G, I get the little icon and popup for "Installing Device Driver" and after a couple of minutes it says it installed successfully and then starts installing itself all over again. It's irritating as heck. I'm on Windows Vista and iTunes version 9.1.1.12. I updated Windows and updated iTunes and neither helped. This just started happening within the last week. My computer only has one USB drive and it's the one I've always used. Please help!

    It sounds as if you have more than one thing going on here. You say that when you turn on your computer you are getting an icon about installing device driver. Then you say it happens "or plug in my iPhone 3G". These should be two different issues.
    Let's isolate the first one. When you turn the computer on, you are getting a device driver popup. This occurs every time you turn on the computer? Are you running it in an administrator mode? What kind of external devices do you have connected to the computer? What USB devices do you have connected, i.e. printer, external drives (not flash drives)?
    After that, we can tackle the iPhone issue.

  • Install Device Driver Software for Palm TX

    My new notebook has Windows Vista and I have had my Palm TX for almost two years.  To install the Palm on my notebook I downloaded the version for Vista from Palm.com.  When I went to synchronize the Palm with the computer during the installation the message kept coming back that "device driver software" could not be found.  Where do I find the driver software?  Is it on the original CD that came with the Palm?  At this point I don't know what to do.  Can someone help me with this problem?

    mar008,
    When you upgraded to Vista, did you install over the existing XP install on the same PC or get a new computer with Vista?
    If you upgraded over the existing install of XP, you may need to do a "clean" uninstall and re-install Palm desktop. You should be able to use the original CD that you got with the TX on the Vista OS.
    Not sure why you are getting the 680 message. Did you ever have a Treo 680 or a handheld that is a different model than the TX?
    Here are the "clean" uninstall procedure for Vista.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
    Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
    copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer.
    Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
    C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
    PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
    *Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
    into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
    hide hidden files.
    Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
    Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
    Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
    Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before create a hotsync name.

  • I having trouble installing device driver ref. cd's on windows XP 64 bit OS

    I recently purchased labVIEW 8.2.1 and the sound and vibration toolkit.  The DAQ unit I have is the ni-9233USB.  I 've got a couple of options as far as computers that I can load the software onto.  The computer that I would like to use is my laptop, but I have the windows XP 64-bit operating system.  LabView seemed to install fine, but when I try to install the device driver reference cd's, it tells me they are uncompatible with the 64 bit OS.  I was curious if NI had driver cd's or a solution that is compatible with the 64 bit OS?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Windows XP 64-bit is not a supported OS for the drivers and while LabVIEW may install it's actually not supported either. Vista 64 bit is supported, and you'll want to make sure to be using the most recent version of DAQmx (v 8.5) as well as LabVIEW 8.2.1.
    Hope this helps,

  • Installing Device Driver Windows CE 6.0

    That should provide you with all the information you need

    Spiceheads,I need your IT knowledge. I was asked by a manager within my organization to deploy dual monitors to our customer service team. Those team members are currently running WYSE thin clients with Windows CE 6.0 (Don't blame me, only been with the company 4 months!).We purchased Plugable-branded USB to VGA video adapters in order to power the second monitor. These devices are supposedly run off of DisplayLink drivers. I downloaded the Windows XP driver since CE looks most like XP. When I attempt to run the .exe nothing happens at all. Upon looking in support forums all over Google it became known that Windows CE does not work with .exe files; they must be .cab (Is this correct information??)With that said -- Does anyone out there know how to install device drivers in Windows Embedded CE 6.0?Thanks!!

  • Vista is asking for a device driver for ipod vid

    I dont have a device driver for it and cant find one so the system wont let me install it. it just leaves a ? in the device manager next to ipod

    I am in no way teccy but logged on to this discussion site in desperation this morning after getting same message as you after buying ipod yesterday (twas second ipod and trying to run off one library but long story). I deleted previous software and started again. Tried a few bits from this help site, in particular the article suggested to you earlier but end bit where you uninstall the driver, then kept ipod plugged in and restarted machine; then when vista driver menu started again, asked it to search the whole C: drive for device driver, which it seemed to find somewhere (as I said, not teccy).
    End result being that I still get the same message asking for device driver but if I ignore it (ie, click 'next time please' or whatever it says) itunes syncs my new ipod brilliantly (music and photos, not tried vid yet).
    Am sure some experts having kittens, but in my ignorance, I have a working ipod and hope Vista and Apple can sort out required tweaks soon and give me auto update. Best of luck.

  • Can not install device driver in Windows 8.1

    I can not install driver of my webcam(Odyssey OD 202) windows 8.1 (upgraded from windows 8)
    The USB webcam is shown in Device manager.
    When I attempt to update driver and search for it automatically it shows the following message.

    Hi Atanu Barai,
    There may be a compatibility issue between the Microsoft driver and the device . I agree with ZigZag ,you may need to download the driver from the manufacturer website .Please pay attention to the compatibility ability issue with the
    Windows 8.1 when you try to download the driver.
    If the issue persists, try to plug in the device with another USB port to have a check .To verify whether it is caused by the USB controller ,we can try to connect another USB device to have a check.
    Meanwhile ,please check the Event Viewer for related information.

  • Bluetooth hands free unable to pair - Vista asking to install device drivers???

    I'm trying to connect my hands free head set to my X200 running vista.
    I have bluetooth enabled and  have already connected my cell phone.
    system details:
    X200 notebook
    windows Vista
    bluetooth enabled and working (as I have already paired my cell phone)
    When i try to connect my hands free, a message appears stating that the device has been found.
    However, it then asks me to install the hands free drivers. In which there are none, as it is a bluetooth device.
    Any idea's on how i can pair my hands free (bluetooth A2DP) to my X200 using vista??

    My experience is that the BB bluetooth profile cannot carry out the two things you mention. For part 2 of your question: have you tried out to switch your profile to "no sound" before you enter your car? I am not sure if the ringsound is re-enabled on hands-free profile but it is worth a try.
    This is probably not satisfying but maybe someone will work on this for future releases of the OS (eg send ringtone sound via blue tooth like Nokia devices do or enable short message readers via blue tooth)
