MyPassport Ultra defekt?

Hallo Community!

So meine Theorie.

  • New mypassport lost screen image while trying to format, now not  recocnised by pc, I think I erased it

I tried to format a new WD mypassport ultra external HD and while trying I think I have erased it. The image apeared on my pc screen upon connection but has dissapeares and now shows format not supported when open in finder under devices.

Try Ejecting the drive, unplugging it and then plugging it back in.
I also have a correction, Volume Scheme was for older OS Xs and it should read Partition Layout.
    1. Select the Partition tab.
    2. Under Volume Scheme Partition Layout select 1 Partition and click on the Options... button.
    3. Select GUID Partition Table in the drop down window and click OK.
    4. Set the Format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Apply button.

  • Ableton Live 9.1.7 instruments cause kernel panics

    Hello,
only whenever I use an internal instrument in Ableton, my computer goes kernel panic.
My libraries are outside the internal SSD (I have them on a 2 TB WD MyPassport Ultra), and the DAW is into the SSD. I always keep connected them while using the software.
I usually use a Saffire Pro 24 DSP as audio device, but whether it is connected or not, kernel panic comes up.
Here I have three examples of kernel panics. I have noticed that there are similarities, that I have marked in bold red, in particular in the kernel traps, part of whose locations are the same. I also marked in bold black the important things I think they may refer to my issues.
This one happened on 26th January (I was NOT using my Saffire interface):

  • How to recover a TM backup from a NAS drive

I am using a MBPro from 2011. I lost a lot of family pictures due to my iPhoto library loosing the connection to the original hi-res files. At the moment I try to recover those with Data Rescue4 but it looks I lost quite a lot.
Now, I do have the following situation:
Until March 2014 my iPhoto Library resided on my Mac HDD
The HDD broke and had to be exchanged
So I moved the iPhoto Library onto a newly bought 2TB external HDD that I connect via USB (a WD MyPassport Ultra)
Now due to the situation described above, I need to recover the last iPhoto Library that resided on my Mac, but which was never used in iPhoto since the hardware crash
When I open iPhoto and then TimeMachine, it does not offer me to recover pictures from that last backup, which is from March 2014 and is about 135GB large. I assume the reason is that I haven´t used it in iPhoto, so iPhoto can´t know.
The TM backup on my NAS, a 4TB Seagate Central is 1,2 TB large. The seagate central cannot be connected to a Mac via USB or wire. According to it´s description, the only way to get data on and off is via ethernet. Having read that TM does not support backing up from a NAS, I assume I need to copy the 1,2 TB backup TM file onto another external HDD that I can attach via USB. Is this correct ? Does this help ?
And then I would need to recover it - but how given the situation above ??
I am pretty desperate meanwhile as I´ve been working on this for the last four weekends...
Within the process of data recovery I bought iPhoto Library Manager, PhotoSweeper and DataRescue4 in order to help recover the data. But I don´t know if this helps here. I´ve tried everything to recover my old files with those tools already.
I would very much appreciate your advice on how to recover my TM backup.

You can or should be able to recover the iphoto library directly from the NAS.. you do not need to copy it to a disk.
TM cannot create a backup from a network source.. but it is very happy using a network target.
Our friend Pondini wrote extensive notes on recovery of various important files using TM
    See Q15 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
There is a link in there to recovery of iphoto in particular under various OS.. but the guy died before Yosemite was inflicted on the Apple Community.
TM has never worked particularly well since Yosemite.. so I can only offer my hope that the method still works..
Here is an example of recovery manually of iphoto library from TM backup I did to show how it is done.
Can't access old files on time capsule
In Yosemite you might be able to simply right click on the file in Finder.. and it bring up an option to recover it from TM.. of course that would assume TM was going to actually work and that is a bridge too far for Yosemite.
In the end.. you can of course do a full recovery to a USB drive plugged into your computer.. I have also used that method to get around issues with finding stuff from old backup.. however IMHO the manual method of digging through the backup offers you the best chance of recovery.
Do protect the TM sparsebundle.. in the end that is the only connection back to you files you have.. so saving a copy of the sparsebundle to a USB drive is not a bad idea.. Certainly do nothing in terms of manipulating the sparsebundle.. you can extract files from it.. copy it to another location.. but make no changes to original sparsebundle on the network drive whatsoever.. so do not continue backups to it or anything like that.
My strong recommendation btw since Yosemite or even Mavericks was to use Carbon Copy Cloner.. and make a bootable backup of your main operating system and any other drives.. You would not be in this mess if you had .. so for future reference.. TM is not really adequate.

  • Apple tv loses home sharing when my computer goes into sleep mode

Just recently, my Apple TV says that home sharing is off when my computer goes into sleep mode.  It never used to do that - any suggestions?

I have the same problem here. Always back-ed up with Time Machine (OSX 10.9 Mavericks) to Western Digital drives. MyBooks, MyPassport 1TB (USB 3.0), all works fine. Time Machine is actually doing back-ups overnight. Since I got this new 2TB MyPassport Ultra USB 3.0 it's working perfect during days, but every morning when I wake up the MacBook from sleep, I get this annoying error:
Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “MyPassportUltra”.
Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.
Latest successful backup: Today, 02:27 am
I'm also not able to write anything to that drive, or unmount it. It stil shows up in Finder, and I'm able to read all the data perfectly fine. When I do a Disk Utility Verify Disk directly after, I get this:
    Checking volume
    disk3s2: Scan for Volume Headers
    Invalid Volume Header @ 0: I/O error
    Invalid Volume Header @ 2000021315072: I/O error
disk3s2 is not a CoreStorage volume
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.
I don't click Repair Disk, as this will probably screw up my partition. Instead, I have to unplug the USB cable (which is bad for the drive, there's no time to park the drive's heads) and plug it in again. After clicking Backup Now, Time Machine immediately starts backing up, and the drive works fine the rest of the day.
I contacted WD Support, and they are sending me a booster USB cable. As System Information reports, the drive receives enough power though:
    Current Available (mA):          900
    Current Required (mA):          224
Unfortunately there's no firmware update for this drive, which will probably fix this. See this topic: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4196704.

  • Sync 2 external drives to 1 redundant backup.

I have two extrenal drives on my desk that I use for backup:
An older 1TB LaCie drive (still works great but is a bit of a monsters, not terribly portable) that I use for the storage of all my images files,
and a new 500GB WD My Passport Edge for when I need portability and I use for Time Machine backups.
As loosing everything in one shot to theft or fire keeps me up at night, I purchased a 2 TB WD Mypassport Ultra that I would like to use as a second backup and keep off-site.
I would like a the simplest/best way to occasionally sync both my current drives, each to its own a folder on the new 2TB drive.
I don't need any utility that has all sorts of bells and whistles. Just a basic sync. I don't mind if I have to do it manually.
Is this something I do with the disk utility on my mac? If not what would be the best (and fairly basic) software to do this?
    Thanks

    Hello Photog17,
I would recommend using Time Machine, as it is a simple, elegant, automated backup solution that also allows for multiple backup destinations.

This computer runs Windows Vista Home Premium.  I am in the process of setting up a new laptop with Windows 8.1 which I understand about this || much. What happens when you transfer the contents? I understand that you plug the MyPassport into the laptop and it should direct me how to install what has been backed up. But what will it look like on the new computer? Will the folders be in the same directories? Where will they be stored? And can someone confirm what will NOT be backed up and transferred? I was told it would be programs that I installed, such as Paint Shop Pro, etc.
Would be very grateful for any assistance

Well! That was so much more painless than I thought, LOL. The transfer went well and I had no problems finding the files, but I apparently have not set the rules for what to copy, right. I understand from p.46 of the manual, Backing Up Files, that you select what to copy from the drop down menu under the PC/Dropbox icon. In my case that only offers Acer  (C, Data (D, and MyPassport. I chose Acer (C, thinking it copies everything on the computer except program files. But it did not copy a specific category (?) named in this image "Working".  Can you tell me what I've done wrong so I can correct it before I lose something? It would be my luck.

  • My passport-reset to Factory Settings (wdbbep0010brd)

So, I have a problem with my external hard drive. The thing is that I formatted a couple of times my HD and now it is completely empty, although I think some files should be there. At the same time, the transferring speed is really slow (about 355kbps). I don't know if the tow things are related. My HD has failed every drive test i ran. I tried updating my HD and downloaded everything from here http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=218&sid=172&lang=gr. I even bought a new cable but the problem remains. I really think the only solution now is to reset my device to factory settings. I want to use it again like I just bought it or at least solve the problem. Plz help! I'm desperate! thankss!

I would like to hear the answer to whether or not factory settings can be restored. I purchased two MyPassport Ultra 1 TB - one for me and one for my dad.  My dad's computer is a little messed up and I am trying to consolidate all of his data to hdd and run applications/os from ssd.  I ran the SmartWare software backup just to see how it functioned.  I would like to erase the data and settings I put on the MyPassport and start as though it just cam out of the box.  Can this be done? Also, can I delete anything from factory, like Mac stuff as I don't have a Mac? Thank you, Rob

  • WD Safe Remove Worked - Then Pls Re-Insert Pop-up

I got the WD Sftware (Not Win 7) Safely Remove option to work. I removed the MyPassport Ultra - BUT THEN seconds later - a pop-up stated it couldn't find the path to the My PPt Ultra and to -- Please Re-Insert the drive --. I Re-Insert and thankfully all data reappears as though nothing is wrong. Fairly SURE it worked ONLY because ONE My PPt was inserted; IF my (2) My PPts are inserted (Only 1 drive BkUp is Enabled at a time) the "Drive in Use" always appears. IS the Re-Insert pop-up more of a Glitch than a Real requirement? Would be somewhat helpful to have limited use of this function.  MANY THANKS!

That will presumably be some other software you had running which was using the drive (for example the file you had open was saved on it) but not actively so (it was working on the file in memory, but its save location was on the drive for example). If you can identify what program was generating the pop-up it would help things, but it sounds fairly safe to me. You sometimes get them with media players and CD/DVD drives - if you take the disc out before the program is expecting you to then it may ask you to put it back so it can finish what it was doing properly before closing down for example.

  • Connecting My Passport Ultra through my router

Hi.I just bought a My Passport Ultra (2TB) and I want to connect it to my router so that I can use it to backup my PC and laptops in the house. The tech at the store said it would work, but I can't find any documentation telling how to do it. Anything I've read talks about connecting the Passport directly to my PC (or laptop).  My router is a D-LINK DIR655 and there is a spare USB port in the back. It's wasn't as easy as I thought (plug the My Passport into the router USB port and the computers would see it).Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

What backup program are you trying to use? WD Smartware (either pro or standard) cannot work with a drive set up like this, only with "true" NAS drives like the MyCloud, or with MyPassport drives directly connected by USB. But another solution which can write to a networked drive may be able to do so, or perhaps to use a virtual hard drive file set up on the networked MyPassport. I've used something like that before to enable Windows 7 backup to write to my NAS drive.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU video lock-ups

    Hello,
I have a 3 month old MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU.  I am running Windows XP Professional and I am having a periodic lock-up where the screen will show blinking colored blocks and the system will freeze.  Sometimes just hitting reset will cure the problem.  Other times, hitting reset will create two vertical stripes of colored blocks scrolling down the screen.  I have used the board on two entirely separate systems (One with AMD Athlon 2000+, Gainward GeForce 4200, 512 MB Samsung 2700 DDR, Western Digital Expert HD (tried both IDE #1 and RAID controller) (Other System, Athlon 1800+, a different Gainward Geforce 4200, 256 Crucial 2700 DDR, an older Maxtor hard drive).  In either system, every once in a while, the system will freeze as described above (it has happened in Netscape 7.0, Microsoft Word 2000, America's Army game).
I have played around with the bios settings, reformatted hard drives, tried various revisions of the nvidia display drivers, swapped out video cards, etc.  Any ideas?  Do I have a bad board?  Do I need to flash the BIOS?  If the board is bad, what do I need to do to return it?
    Thanks,
    Matt Gumaer

The second system has a 330 watt enermax power supply.  With the new system I put together, I put virtually the same board (MSI KT3 Ultra 2 with bluetooth and RAID), everything is the same as my first system (except the KT3 Ultra-ARU) and the stability is fine.  So, I'm reasonably confident its not the power supply.

  • Installation problem on Ultra 10

    Hi,
I bought a used Ultra 10 machine, but the person who sold me the machine told me that he has formatted the hard disk.
I need to install Solaris 8 on this machine, I have the correct CD's (Solaris for Sparc) and when I get the OK prompt, I am saying "boot crdom".
When I do this I get an error "wrong magic number", can you please let me know how to overcome this problem.
The configuration of my machine is
    Ultra 10
    RAM: 512Mb
    HDD: 9.1 GB
The next questoin that I have is, whether I can add another Hard drive that can be bought from Best Buy or any other similar store. If YES then, can I use any IDE drive that is available (Example: 30GB Western Digital)
I dont know if Ultra 10's can have any size of hard disk, please give some info on this.
    Thanks in advance
    Vasanth

When trying to install Solaris and you receive the error "Wrong magic number... " , you do not have a bad disk. Sun hard disks are formatted with a special number at the first part of the disk. If it does not match this number it will spit out a "Wrong magic number..." error. If you receive this error the CD will escape to a make shift shell. From this shell you can run the command format, which will allow you to format your hard drive and place the correct magic number at the beginning of the drive. Reboot the machine and you should be set. The Solaris installer will let your re-partition your drive just as you have done in your previous installations and you should be set.

  • How to remove a hard drive on a Digital HiNote Ultra CT475

I have an old HiNote Ultra CT475, that I need to remove the hard drive and have destroyed. Anyone know how to get the case off with destroying it? I have the front edge up, cause I found screws under the foot pad in front. I do not see any more screws except on the back and they have all been remove.

Sorry it is made by DEC electronics, now out of business, we only help with HP products.

  • Msi kt3 ultra, msi gf4 4200 tvout problem

    I have a msi gf4 4200 64mb card and i have a msi kt3 ultra aru and windows xp,
my problem is tv out is garbled in pal , ntsc is grey (iam in europe), the colours seem inverted blues are red, etc and theres a ghosting effect around moving images like in videos or around the cursor
Ive tried everything from default mem setting , to high performance , tried diferent driver sets , tried windows 2000, tried via chipset drivers, latest msi, nvidia gf drivers, pal b , g , i , 60hz, diferent resolutions, clone view, single output to tv, stretch view , nothing seems to fix it, the only thing that comes close to fixing it is using the tvtool http://tvtool.info/ with color fix correction activated, but the images isnt stable its got a weird strecthing, shimmering effect on the bottom half of the tv image
Iam sure that the problem is not tv or cable related because i tried a friends p4 (board msi sis 645dx) with the exact same model gf4 4200 (not my one) with my scart cable and tv set up and it worked fine.
Could it be a voltage problem? ive even tried upping agp and core voltage a bit to see if helps, and nothing

    mhuizing,
nope havent tried a diferent tv , but it should work ,  i tested the connection with a friends computer
exact same gfx card model and it worked fine!
My old system leadtek gf3 ti200 , epox 8kha+ worked fine with this connection.
Iam using a scart cable to a video , then from the vid to the tv via antena cable
i upgraded and voila, i got some headaches for free  :P !!!
