Myriad Alien Dalvik (android apps for symbian)

When will be available Myriad Alien Dalvik for phones running symbian^3?
myriad-alien-dalvik-allows-android-apps-symbian-maemo-virtual-machine

...and so far Myriad has not said anything about making their products available directly to us end users. They seem only to be interested in offering the software to the phone makers for bundling with the OS.
I am guessing that the reason for this would be that they don't expect to make much money otherwise due to software piracy; Alien Dalvik would be one of the top cracked downloads on the torrent sites.

  • New apps for symbian belle

Hi. When will new apps available for symbian belle phones?. We can see that in android phones are flooded with apps.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a huge number of apps for Symbian.
Up to about 2010 it was the leading operating system in smartphones.
What Nokia don't have is the Apple IOS type of well organised app shop. A lot of Symbian app developers sold their apps directly, and a lot have withdrawn the apps from the shop for some bizzare reason. Those in the latter group who don't sell them directly are a problem and you have to google for the .sis file and eventually you will find one that installs.
Both the Nokia app shop and the Apple app shop are 95% useless garbage, however, and that will always be the case for smartphones because there are loads of app developers who think they are going to get rich by writing some near-useless app and selling a million of them for €0.50 each.
"Symbian is in the late stages of it's "death" now"
That's interesting. Can you post the date my phone is going to stop working? With 26,746 posts you are probably well connected and know the exact date.

  • Adobe Photoshop app for symbian OS

    Hi Sir,
Can you develop the Photoshop app for Symbian OS also??? I have used Photoshop app in Lumia 720 & it was gorgeous. And as you know Nokia 808 Pureview is one of the best camera smartphones ever made. With 41 mega pixels, we can do wonders. But only problem that I found is the sodding Symbian OS. There are no good photo editing apps for Symbian platform. Does Symbian OS meets the requirements?? It would be great if a Photoshop app is available for that platform also.
    Regards,
    Sajeev C

No, the CS5 software is operating system-specific and even if you were willing to trade for the Windows version you could not at this point due to that only being possible for the latest. release, CS6.

  • Google Killed Gmail App for Symbian

It looks like the Gmail app for Symbian is no longer available. On what used to be Google's download page for the app, they now tell you to to access gmail through your web browser.
Does anyone know where I can download the final version of the Gmail app that was made for Symbian? I can't find a download link anywhere...
    Solved!

    I used this website: http://www.cellmind.com/expired_certificate/
You upload the .sis file with the expired certificate there and they send one back to you that works.
Or, there is a version of Gmail now posted on All About Symbian that has a good certificate. Go here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/13776_Gmail_application_finally_pull.php and then click on the "still sideload" link about halfway down the page.

  • DPS android app for small screens, works, but poorly...

There is a way to get the DPS android app compatable with 1400 devices, including mobile phones.
In theory if you here reading this its because you have an android app made by the DPS app builder live in the play store and...
A: found out that the android app is only available on large/xlarge screens
B: are getting yelled at by your employer who bought the Adobe DPS subscription and claims this should work on his phone "because I looked at the Adobe site and it says android, my phone is an android, read their site and make it work"
C: found this because you were smart enough to read through the forums before suggesting this as a publishing solution to your employer and want to know if it really works on android phones, in whcih case, you may want to make it easy on yourself and just say "no, it does not" and then waid for Adobe to officially support small/normal screens perhaps head over to this post and bring some attention to it so we can collectivly improve this already awesome tool: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1097433
however, before you attempt this please keep in mind the following:
1- it does not work well, if at all, on certain devices. specifically the small phone devices with the slower processors. So what typically happens is that you need to delete the data for the app and wait nearly 10 min for the "checking for updates" to process and grab new edditions. Depending on your serivce provider, this can be a nightmare. So, do NOT even attempt this if you have a cap on your data plan, think about how long it would take to download a 100mb folio file on a 3g connection, not to mention the processor which the tablets have and phones do not have.
    Here is some more data:
--Android 1 from Sprint: really super slow, thats all I gotta say
--Android 2 from Verizon, again, slow, but works
--Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1, Verizon 4g connection, works great, (10% of the time) lol. about 90% of the time the Galaxy Nexus needs to be restarted after installing, and will get stuck on the "updating library" screen. the only way to fix this for any of the above phones seems to be to clear all data, uninstall, re install, do not launch, restart phone, and then launch app.
I am going to test the following soon:
         Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 (1.6GHz Quad-core)
         (1.5GHz Quad-core)
              LG Optimus G E973
              Xiaomi MI-2
              LG Optimus 4X HD P880
              HTC One X
(the idea being that perhaps we can go through the list from google in the play store and limit the devices its on, but at least with this solutuon as described below we can get rid of the "not availabe on your device" notice.)
So before you read on, consider that for your end users. If you find a way to fix this, let me know, I have considered turning off hardware acceleration but have not tested this yet.
2- if you choose to attempt this make sure you have a good understanding of command line AND you have a new version of the app ready if you want to roll back.
consider this concept: (you should have these ready)
app a- made by Adobe DPS app builder, works on only large and x-large android screens, lets say its version 100000 and 2.5.5.000. This is already in your google.play store account as a live app,
app b- the app you are about to build in this example below, it will in theory work on small, medium, large, and x-large android screens, lets say its version is 110000 and 2.9.9.000 (it will be MADE FROM APP A, you will open it, edit it, and wrap it back up.)
app c- made by Adobe DPS app builder, works on only large and x-large android screens, lets say its version 200000 and 3.5.5.000 (which would be good to have in case your version b above does not work the way you want)
notice the VERSION codes. These are important because you can only go UP, you can not "roll back" to a previous version.
Again, I do not suggest this, but if you are daring and have some development background, feel free to give it a shot.
(I am not going to be able to support this info, but I can verify 100% that I got mine working, very poorly and slow, but it installs, pulls folios, and loads)
PC WINDOWS ONLY, I have not tried this on a MAC.
    get this:
      http://www.7-zip.org/
    install it
    get this:
      http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/
    read all about it.
    go here:
      http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/list
    get:
              apktool1.4.3.tar.bz2
    and
              apktool-install-windows-r04-brut1.tar.bz2
put them all in 1 folder, extract both items, all the way
    the grab the
              android-viewer.apk
that Adobe DPS made, or whatever yours is named...
    and the
              release.keystore
you made and put them in the same "stuff" folder. there should be 20 items total in here now.
    get this:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk-6u30-download-1377139.html
              jdk-6u30-windows-x64.exe
do NOT use any other version, do NOT use version 7, use version 6.
install it all. then find it. should be here- (C://program files/Java/)
I recomend grabbing it all and putting it in your ROOT like this:
    C://Java/jdk1.6.0_30/bin
then, put everything from the "stuff" folder into C://Java/jdk1.6.0_30/bin
    yep, all of it.
now we are ready to get funky...
    run cmd line.
    open start menu, type
    cmd
into the search bar, hit enter
-------- run command line, get to proper directory
    cd ..
    cd ..
    cd Java/jdk1.6.0_30/bin
    (or wherever your 'stuff' is)
    --------open up
    apktool d android-viewer.apk android-viewer
(this will make a folder called 'android-viewer' and you will be able to go into that folder and find the XML files in there)
    --------edit XML
    in file: /android-viewer/AndroidManifest.xml
open up in dreamweaver and change this stuff:
    android:versionCode="_ENTER_NEW_NUMBER_" android:versionName="_ENTER_NEW_NUMBER_"
    <supports-screens android:smallScreens="true" android:normalScreens="true" android:largeScreens="true" android:xlargeScreens="true" />
    in file: /android-viewer/assets/META-INF/AIR/application.xml
open up in dreamweaver and change this stuff:
              <versionNumber>_MATCH_ABOVE_</versionNumber>
              <versionLabel>_MATCH_ABOVE_</versionLabel>
    <supports-screens android:smallScreens='true' android:normalScreens='true' android:largeScreens='true' android:xlargeScreens='true'/>
    --------package it back up
    apktool b android-viewer android-viewer-new.apk
(this will repackage the folder into a new APK, note the name -new.apk added to the end)
    --------Sign
    jarsigner -keystore release.keystore -signedjar android-viewer-signed.apk android-viewer-new.apk YOUR_ALIAS
(now you need to sign the -new apk and recreate it as signed)
    --------Verify
    jarsigner -verify -verbose -certs android-viewer-signed.apk
(if the last line does not say 'successfully verified' and there is an error, make sure you are using version 6 of JDK and not 7)
    --------Update APK in play store
    Visit this page
    http://developer.android.com/distribute/googleplay/about/distribution.html#instant
read the line that says "Instant publishing, instant updates"
while you do, understand you are being lied to, it takes anywhere from 30 min to 4 hours for your update to be "instant".
    take the new "android-viewer-signed.apk"
rename it, upload it, activate it, de activate the old one.
important: beofe you click save, switch over to the "product details" tab and update your version notes.
head over to your app page in the play store.
sit there and click refresh every 10 min or take a nap and come back in a few hours.
when you finally see the version number has updated, go to the browser on your phone
find your app in the browser, refresh the page, make sure its got the new version number on it.
install it on your small screen device, cross your fingers, and hope you do not get a message that says "not signed properly"
if you do, feel free to start googling the stuff above to see where you went wrong.
If it does work, go to your boss and have him download it and run it and say "see, there ya go, its on your phone now" and when he says it does not work hand him a minni screw driver and a 1.6GHz Quad-core from the Galaxy Note II and tell him to simply upgrade the procssor in his phone because its too slow. lol.
    -good luck and enjoi

    Hi,

  • Socially App for Symbian^3

quick heads up that the Socially App has had a beta release today, optimised for Symbian^3 (still works S60v5) just note I had a couple of installation problems, but after deleting my current version, the install went fine and the new UI is very impressive, as a free app I think it's great as an additional option for social networks and worth a try

  • Android app for my Z10

I recently acquired a shutter triggering device made by MIOPS for my Canon 7D MK II camera, but their app is only available on Andriod. I know Blackberry can use some Android apps, do I stand any chance of getting the MIOPS app for my Z10, and if so, can someone help me find the way? Thanks everyone.

no, that's not possible and advisable however, you can consider using Amazon app store (pre-installed app) or downloading third party stores that supports Android and iOS apps.

  • How are people signing their Android Apps for Google Play?

What is common practice for signing Android Apps, is self signing acceptable? If not, what certificate authorities are popular for Adobe AIR Apps?
    Thanks

No, because you enter your publisher details in the certificate. As far as I can tell the user just has the one dialog where they have to give permissions.

  • Command Center + Android app for Z87-G45 Gaming

So I just got my Z87-G45 mobo and i7 4770k installed after a nightmare of dealing with a corrupt Windows installation, and this thing is SWEET!
I found that there's a Command Center app for Android, but it requires Command Center version 2.5.037 or above. The latest I could find when looking at downloads for my motherboard was version 1.0.0.16 before the MSI US site went down. Checked the EU site and it's the same story.
Is there a download link for Command Center 2.5.037 or is each download of Command Center specific to each motherboard?

Under very heavy loads the stock cooler is crap, anyone can tell you that. For lower price cooler a Cooler Master 212 is OK, for a better one at higher price Zalman 9900 is what I use now but did have the 212+ prior to the Zalman and really didn't have any complaints about it. Under extreme loads my CPU would get up to 75C max with 212+, with the 9900 61C max.

  • WireShark/Packet Tracer like app for Symbian?

    Hi
I need some appz that have similar funcionality like those 2, but r available for Symbian phones (Nokia N95 8GB). Any clues? Thx
    Luk

i dont think there is libpcap support on symbian so a good sniffer for symbian is probably not availble, maybe some lower function hex sniffer but porting wireshark to symbian without libpcap will turn out difficult im pretty sure
contact Gerald Comps (main creator of wireshark) and ask him maybe.

  • Viber app for symbian

i recently installed viber on my nokia x7 running symbian belle os. But when i started it i came to know that it doesn't have a calling option unlike android and ios phones. This is utter disappointment for me and i think for many nokia users. I would like to know will there be any updation regarding viber app in the coming or i should uninstall it because it is of no use if it does not have a calling option. Please update regarding this.

N8 with Belle Refresh, 808 on Belle FP1 and C7 on standard Belle. All 3 devices displayed the same battery behaviour, losing around 10% per hour in standby and showing an open data connection all the time.
My N8 has dropped six percent in five hours and 48 minutes with Viber running in the background. I'm measuring this using the Battery Info widget. I haven't any reason to think that that widget is giving me false information and has seemed to be quite accurate over the months I've been using it.

  • Deploying Qt 4.7 app for Symbian to N8 - Bollucks

I'm a bit aggravated, I'll try to take this step by step
I wrote an app.  A Qt Mobile 4.7.1 based app.  I got it signed and certed for some N8 phone testing, but have yet to test it on a real phone.  The problem begins here, so let's start at the beginning:
I was using the Qt Creator stock download, but at the suggestion of this article: http://labs.qt.nokia.com/2010/10/18/qt-4-7-for-symbian3-developer-version-available/, I am now using the open-source version of Qt Creator for the Windows platform.  It's nicer, at least so far.
Things I'm angry about 1:  I use a Mac; Macs are awesome (laptop). The Mac Qt Creator "Qt Simulator" crashes every time I run the app.  From what I read, this has something to do with a fight over video card memory.  I also use VMWare.  VMWare only recognizes the N8 phone as a camera, but fails to go past that.  Bollucks.
I proceed to write my app.  I run the "Qt Simulator", and my app (eventually) works.
Things I'm angry about 2:  I love Android.  I love the blogs about it (not the documentation), I love it's native kinetic scrolling and pinch-zoom; but mostly, I love it's get-up-and-go attitude.  Droid really does Do.  When I Google questions regarding Qt, I get blog posts from 2005!  If I hadn't discovered Qt Labs, I would be angrier.
My app now needs to be phone tested.  I want to see it working on a phone, damn it.  I give the Mac SDK another chance, - I'm tired of coding in VMWare.
Things I'm angry about 3:  Unless I'm mistaken, you can't deploy an app to an N8 from the Mac Qt Creator SDK.  Why can't I find any documentation on this?  Why is there an SDK if if doesn't work and doesn't deploy?  Beta or not, bollucks.
I am home for the holidays, and now using my parent's laptop (dear God, let Windows die).  I install all the necessary components, and plug the N8 in.  It installs everything itself (really!  happy happy joy joy), and all the Ovi junk it needs to.  I follow one of the many (kidding) tutorials about installing TRK, Qt, and Qt Mobility to the N8; these allow me to deploy code ot the phone (this should just be installed already, Nokia...hint hint) TRK installs fine.  Qt Mobility installs fine.  Qt does not. I get that PIPS error.   I realize (or at least I think I realize) that the N8 comes with Qt 4.6.something.  My realization doesn't help me get the app working.
I try to install a stock Qt Creator app (a very ugly, but use-case TreeView based app).  It works.  Great.  Let's try mine.  I get about 5 bazillion errors.   I then followed the link (way up top) tutorial, but now I'm just getting missing file errors and out-of-memory errors (the former due to a probable directory placement issue).
Where I'm going with this:  Why can't I install my app to the damned phone?!  Why is documentation so scattered around?  Oh, the humanity.  (ok, that was mostly for dramatic effect).

It is not a matter of uninstalling. It is a matter of Nokia getting it right! See Posts #3 and #4. Qt 4.7.2 is the only Qt I know that will not crash my apps.
And Qt 4.6.3 certificates have already expired and some component dependecies that installed in Qt 4.7.2 cannot be overwritten by Qt 4.6.3.
So do I say, I get rid of these apps? I don't think any sane person would kill essentials apps and downgrade to a Qt version that is old and not usable for their purpose.
Hence, your solution to uninstall/overwrite is kind of insane. Do you want to uninstall/overwrite everytime you need to install something? Or do you want Nokia to push a Smart Installer that will work with their latest versions of Qt that they have been pushing?
If Nokia wants to live, they need to get Qt right.
So please... since they are pushing Qt out to these 3rd party developers, and more and more Qt apps are showing up at the Ovi Store, they have to make sure their support system, including Smart Installer that does all the installation is 100% fool proof, not 100% fools!
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. They don't work but kudos for trying. The solution is not to have a temporary "mickey mouse" solution but a correct one from Nokia!

Sorry. Didn't see that part. Anyway, even if you can't uninstall it, I don't see why you cant try overwriting it. Install it again.
