• Why do we install Solution Manager on Different Server

Hi Everybody,
Please if anybody can help in clearing the doubt that why it is advisable to install Solution Manager on Different Server.
Thanks in advance!!
Pawan

Thanks Juan. Got the answer.
Infact i was reading somewhere and got these points -
SAP Solution Manager is designed to run in a central u2018monitoringu2019 system at the customer site where all other SAP systems and mySAP solutions (satellite systems) are connected:
u2022 The entire Solution Landscape can be documented (u2018living documentu2019) in a central system (in fact several Solution Landscapes can be managed)
u2022 SAP and Non-SAP Systems can be modeled
u2022 All core business processes can be graphically assigned to all available productive systems in a solution landscape
u2022 All connected SAP systems can be monitored by the central SAP Solution Manager system
u2022 Satellite systems submit data via RFC / agents into the central system
u2022 The system with the SAP Solution Manager installed has a connection to SAPNet R/3 Frontend and the SAP Service Marketplace to communicate with SAP Support Back Office
The SAP Solution Manager serves as a platform that includes several features in one application. The strength of the SAP Solution Manager is the strong integration into the mySAP.com Solution and the optimal knowledge transfer SAP-Partner-Customer including central monitoring features, mainly focusing on core business processes. However, additional features and tools (Support Desk, SAP Note Assistant, MS NetMeeting,u2026) that are integrated in the SAP Solution Manager, also play important roles within a customeru2019s solution management.
It is important to understand that it is not necessary or useful to always have all integrated SAP Solution Manager components installed on one system. For example it is possible to install the SAP Solution Manager on one system and connect to another System where the Support Desk is installed. The SAP Solution Manager then only serves as a portal to jump to the included Support Desk system without notice.
If the customeru2018s main focus is the management of core business processes through service roadmaps and monitoring via SAP EarlyWatch Alert, Service Level Management (reporting) and so on, SAP recommends the SAP Web Application Server as the best choice for the SAP Solution Manager installation as it is also the platform for the SAP Solution Architect and has fairly small hardware requirements.

• Send/Receive IDOCs (XML) from/to SAP R/3 with XI-SOAP without XI!

Dear SAP specialists,
(BACKGROUND) We are using the Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for SAP 1.0, developed on top of the SAP DCOM Connector (we are using the version 6.20 Patch Nr. 177), with Microsoft BizTalk Server 2002 SP1 in order to send and receive IDOC via the tRFC transport protocol. We are using the Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for SAP 1.0 since February 2002, and today we are exchanging more than 25,000 IDOC/day with this architecture.
When we migrate our SAP R/3 system to the version 4.7 with WAS 6.20, I was very enthusiastic about the possibility of sending the IDOC in XML via the standard HTTP transport protocol, because it would considerably simplify my architecture, i.e. no need of any (expensive) adapter any more! But, I had to realise that the quality of service exactly once will not be there anymore with HTTP as it exists with tRFC. Then, we carry on using the tRFC transport protocol with the adapter.
(QUESTION) But recently, I followed the SAP Course TBIT40 XI Foundations and I learn that:
1.     On one hand, the XI-SOAP protocol supports the quality of service exactly once by the usage of a message GUID within the XI-SOAP envelope;
2. On the other hand, all mySAP solutions using WAS 6.20 (or higher) carry a “small” Integration Engine (with XI-SOAP as the “native” transport protocol).
Then, my question is: << Is it possible to exchange IDOC (XML) directly with an SAP R/3 4.7 (WAS 6.20) via the XI-SOAP transport protocol using the “small” Integration Engine embedded into it, with the quality of service exactly once? >>
Many thanks in advance and best regards,
Patrice Krakow

Hello Patrice
We have same issue. Is it possible to use IDoc (XML) directly with SAP 5.0 with SOAP (HTTP) without XI?
Since your que is three years old, I'm sure you must have found some method for this.
We'll highly appreciate your help.
Regards: Gaurave

• What is the relationship between the SAP BC and XI?

Hi Friends,
What is the relationship between the SAP BC and XI?
Regards
Sam

Hi Samuel Melvin ,
The SAP BC is basically WebMethod's product supplied free of charge to SAP customers.
SAP XI is a purchased product from SAP that can be used to integrate multiple systems, you would need to contact your SAP Account rep to discuss licensing issues. You cannot download it for free from sapnet.
It is probably more relevant to discuss the comparison between these solutions based on a specific scenario, but here are some basic differences. Obviously, the foremost one being that the SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI) belongs to the SAP Netweaver technology suite, whereas Business Connector although bundled by SAP is really a Integration tool provided by Web Methods.
Being a Netweaver solution the SAP XI is central in design and configuration. The SAP XI is really integrated as a required solution for some of new mySAP solutions like SRM. For example, the mySAP SRM business scenario for Supplier Self Services in EBP requires the implementation of SAP XI, the Business connector cannot be utilized to replace this scenario. Although the SAP Business Connector can still be utilized with SRM for all XML based communication. Both mySAP SRM and XI runs natively on the SAP WebAS Server.
The Business Connector is a point to point solution that provides messaging and routing. Currently a number of organizations using the Business Connector utilize it to communicate between its partners using XML based messaging. This can be achieved using SAP XI as well, but SAP's strategy is to utilize XI as a central hub for messaging, routing, and communication between all SAP, non-SAP systems as well as partners. As SAP XI is a relatively new solution, organizations that are looking for communicating with their partners to exchange XML based documents or other point-to-point scenarios can still utilize SAP Business connector.
Initially, when SAP announced the SAP XI, there was a notion that SAP Business Connector would be phased out and SAP XI would be the solution utilized hereon. But SAP will continue to support the Business Connector, the SAP Exchange Infrastructure will remain as the SAP's strategic integration solution. All new and or updated SAP solutions will make use of the XI for all process-centric, message based integration. As upgrades are scheduled and new solutions deployed we'll see the mandated need for XI but currently the only solution that natively requires SAP XI is mySAP SRM 2.0.
It will be interesting to see how organizations that already utilize SAP Business Connector warm up the SAP XI idea. But for the most part they will not have a choice really, as the new mySAP products are going to natively require the use of SAP XI for all process-centric integration between the different SAP solutions. But there is no reason why organizations cannot continue to utilize the SAP Business Connector for all point-to-point solutions already deployed with possibly document exchange and partner integration. Hope this helps.

• SAP BC Vs SAP XI

Hi,
We are currently using SAP BC and planning to migrate to SAP XI. I need to prepare a presentation which should explain the disadvantages of SAP BC and how those issues can corrected or easily implemented using SAP XI. Thanks in advance.

hi raja..
this wud answer u....
this was an explanation given to me by sameer...(too good)...
SAP XI belongs to SAP Netweaver Technology, whereas BC is an Integration tool provided by Webmethods.
SAP XI is based on a model called "Hub & Spoke" and Business Connectors are "point to point". So by using XI, what happens is that you do not redesign Solutions once again.
With XI you save the entire integration knowledge of a collaborative process centrally in SAP XI: Objects at design time in the Integration Repository and objects at configuration time in the Integration Directory. In this way, SAP Exchange Infrastructure follows the principle of shared collaboration knowledge: You no longer need to search for information about a collaborative process in each of the systems involved, but can call this information centrally instead. This procedure considerably reduces the costs for the development and maintenance of the shared applications.
Also SAP XI comes with pre-configured solutions bundled along with it, so you can straight-away use the solution instead of redesigning.
Also i believe SAP XI is integrated as a required solution for some new mySAP solution like SRM, there are some scenarios within SRM requires SAP XI to be used and we cannot use BC's there.
But incase if you do not have multiple systems connected and communication is between just 2 systems, BC should be sufficient, instead of investing on XI.
But i guess slowly SAP will be stopping its support for BC, as SAP XI can do everything that BC does and even much more.
regards...
vishal

Hi Thom Heinemann ,
The following websites containing PDF & PPT docs on BI will gain u confidence :
What is a BW datasource? What is meant by maintaining a datasource?
A BW datasource is a structure which is created in the source system and replicated to the BW system. Maintaining a datasource in a source system is doing any changes related to the datasource. It could be adding/deleting fields or checking the flags in the datasource like the hide and selection flag. Also, if the datasource is provided in the LO Cockpit, changes can be made there too depending on how the extraction of data is ...

An InfoCube describes a self-contained dataset (from the reporting view), for example, for a business-oriented area. This dataset can be evaluated with the BEx query. An InfoCube is a set of relational tables that are created in accordance with the star schema: a large fact table in the center, with several dimension tables surrounding it.
In its esence, Infocube is a data container. Data containers are used as a basis for analysis and reporting processes in SAP BW. Infocubes in SAP BW serve exactly this purpose. Infocubes in SAP consist of Key figures and characteristics. You can find some detailed information on key figures here. Simply speaking, infocube is any repository which contains data. Moving on to the types of infocubes. In SAP BW, there are basically two classes of infocubes. These are:
Basic Infocubes - These are also called as physical infocubes.
Remote Infocubes - These are also called as virtual infocubes.
The basic difference between the above two types of infocubes is that basic infocubes are physically stored in the same SAP BW system as their meta data description. Remote infocubes are stored on a third party custom SAP BW. Both the above types of BW infocubes consist of key figures and characteristics. These characteristics in turn are divided into 16 dimensions. More on that in another post.

Extract Structure
In the extract structure, data from a DataSource is staged in the source system. The extract structure contains the amount of fields that are offered by an extractor in the source system for the data loading process. You can edit and enhance DataSource extract structures in the source system. To do this, in the BW Administrator Workbench choose Goto à Modeling à Source Systems à Your Source System à Context Menu (right mouse click) à Customizing Extractors à Subsequent Processing of DataSources.
Transfer Structure
The transfer structure is the structure in which the data is transported from the source system into the SAP Business Information Warehouse. It provides a selection of the extract structure fields for the source system.
Use
The transfer structure provides BW with all the source system information available for a business process.
An InfoSource in BW requires at least one DataSource for data extraction. DataSource data that logically belongs together is staged in an extract structure in an SAP source system.
In the transfer structure maintenance, you determine which extract structure fields are transferred to the BW. When you activate the transfer rules in BW, an identical transfer structure for BW is created in the source system from the extractor structure.
This data is transferred 1:1 from the transfer structure of the source system into the BW transfer structure, and is then transferred into the BW communication structure using the transfer rules.
A transfer structure always refers to a DataSource from a source system and an InfoSource in BW.
You get to the maintenance of the transfer structure using the InfoSource tree of the Administrator Workbench. The context menu of the source system belonging to an InfoSource provides you with the maintenance marker using the function Maintain Transfer Rules.

SAP Business Information Warehouse
SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) is the name of the Business Intelligence, analytical, reporting and Data Warehousing (DW) solution which is one of the major enterprise software applications produced by SAP AG. It was originally named SAP BIW, (Business Information Warehouse), but is now known as "SAP NetWeaver BI".
SAP BW consists among other things of components for data management (Data Warehousing Workbench), extensive data modeling capabilities, an embedded analytical engine, a suite of rich front-end analytical tools refererred to as Business Explorer (BEx), and operational tools used for importing the most current transactional data into the system. It may be helpful to consider layers that make up the structure of SAP's BI solution:
Extraction, Transformation and Load (ETL) layer - responsible for extracting data from a specific source, applying transformation rules, and loading it into SAP BW system.
Data warehouse area - responsible for storing the information in various types of structures, including multidimensional structures called InfoCubes.
Reporting - responsible for accessing the information in data warehouse area and presenting it in a user-friendly manner to the analyst or business user.
Planning - Provides capabilities for the user to run simulations and perform tasks such as budget calculations.
SAP's BI application is a very pervasively employed data warehouse / analytical enterprise software solution, often utilized heavily by companies that essentially run their business on SAP operational systems such as SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP ERP, traditionally known as SAP R/3). SAP's BI solution contains a large number of predefined "extractors", a very significant amount of pre-defined business content in the form of InfoCubes, master data (i.e. objects representing the entity for "Customer", or "Material"), authorization roles, query views and reports all delivered in the software by SAP. Some of the significant benefits of this approach include the ability to leverage SAP's substantial business knowledge from many years of developing extremely sophisticated software systems for the world's largest companies, typically shortening project development cycles in the process. The pre-defined business content can be modified to meet an organization's specific requirements, while at the same time taking advantage of general aspects of these delivered data models and reports that are somewhat foundational and have broad application in business, government, and education.
SAP BW is now part of a suite of SAP applications called SAP NetWeaver. Other components of SAP NetWeaver include SAP Enterprise Portal (EP, called SAP NetWeaver Portal as of Release 7.0), Web Application Server (WAS), SAP Process Integration (PI, or previously XI, i.e. eXchange Infrastructure) and Master Data Management (MDM).
The 7.0 version of SAP BW was released in June 2006 as part of the SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (aka 2004s). This new release includes many new features, such as next-generation reporting and analytical features, major data warehousing enhancements, and possibility to use innovative techology for query performance optimization called "BI Accelerator". BI Accelerator (or BIa) comes as an external applicance, i.e. complete hardware with pre-installed software. BIa requires separate licence fee.
From SAP NetWeaver 7.0 on, the term SAP BW is obsolete, and instead it is referred simply as "SAP NetWeaver BI" - i.e. "SAP NetWeaver 7.0 BI".
According to SAP, more than 12,000 installations of SAP's BI solution exist.
SAP Business Information Warehouse (BW) is SAP´s Data Warehouse solution. It has been specially developed to allow you to gather and analyze all kinds of statistical information in the best possible way.
The SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) is a core element of mySAP.com. SAP BW is an enterprise-wide information hub that enables data analysis from R/3 and other business application, including external data sources such as databases and the Internet. SAP BW also offers easy integration with other mySAP solutions, such as mySAP Supply Chain
Management (mySAP SCM), mySAP Strategic Enterprise Management (mySAP SEM), and mySAP Customer Relationship Management (mySAP CRM).
SAP BW is a comprehensive end-to-end data warehouse solution with optimized structures for reporting and analysis. To help knowledge workers quickly mine an enterpriseu2019s business data, SAP BW is equipped with preconfigured information models and reports, as well as automatic data extraction and loading methods.
With an easy-to-use Microsoft Excel-based user interface, you can create, format, and analyze reports, and publish those reports to the web. Built for high performance, SAP BW resides on its own dedicated server. Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) and reporting activities are therefore separated, and system performance is not compromised.

To help knowledge workers quickly mine an enterprise’s business data, SAP BW is equipped with preconfigured information models and reports, as well as automatic data extraction and loading methods.
COMPONENTS & TOOLS OF SAP NetWeaver:SAP NetWeaver BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE
Timely access to relevant information has always been critical to business success. Now, with the widespread use of the Internet, wired and wireless data collection technologies such as RFID, and the subsequent increase in new data sources, it's even more important.
SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (SAP NetWeaver BI) paints a complete picture of your business to satisfy the diverse needs of end users, IT professionals, and senior management. It brings together a powerful business intelligence infrastructure, a comprehensive set of tools, planning and simulation capabilities, and data-warehousing functionality – delivered through enterprise portal technology.
With SAP NetWeaver BI, you can integrate data from across the enterprise and beyond, and then transform it into practical, timely information to drive sound decision-making, targeted action, and solid business results. It supports:
Data warehousing – Data warehouse management; business modeling; and extraction, transformation, and loading enable you to build data warehouses, model information architecture according to business structure, and manage data from multiple sources.
Business intelligence – Online analytical processing, data mining, and alerts provide a foundation for accessing and presenting data, searching for patterns, and identifying exceptions.
Business planning – A BI planning framework with secure workflow capabilities supports Microsoft Excel or Web-based planning and budgeting based on consolidated corporate data for bottom-up or top-down planning.
Business insights – Query design, reporting and analysis, and Web application design allow you to create analysis reports, support decisions at every level, and present business intelligence applications on the Web.
Measurement and management – Business-content management, metadata management, and collaborative business intelligence monitor progress, provide reporting templates, ensure consistent data, and help decision-makers work together.
Open hub services – Open hub services features enable the delivery of high-quality, audited enterprise information through Web services to applications. Bulk data exchange, change data capture (CDC), and modeling features streamline deployment and enable cost-effective operations.
Information broadcasting – Information broadcasting features support the distribution of mass information to large audiences in a personalized and secure manner. You can broadcast information as an offline document or live report through personalized e-mail or the Internet, according to a schedule or based on key events.
Accelerated business intelligence – Based on compressions, parallel in-memory processing, and search technologies, the SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator functionality improves the performance of queries, reduces administration tasks, and shortens batch processes. Developed as an appliance on Intel processors, the accelerator provides consistently fast response times, even as data volumes, number of users, and analytics increase.

• BBP_DOCUMENT_TAB- Entries with special charaters afetr unicode upgrade

Hi,
We are on SRM 5.0 (SRM_SERVER 550) Sp07. SAp 4.7 backend.
We are upgrading the system to unicode.
What we have observed is after PO creation the BBP_DOCUMENT_TAB has some special characters in the field 'Key'
For example:
BUS2121001##䟅㳤탇ᾣᾣઃ????#?? ######## 01############################
In the non unicode system the entry reads like below
BUS2121001GAEp#?g8Ia#####o# ################ 01###########
This does not cause problems in most of the SRM systems, but in one of the systems, the Clean_reqreq_up job is failing with a message 'Buffer table not up to date'. We are not sure if this is due to the entries in BBP_DOCUMENT_TAB which have special characters or not.
Can someone please explain the impact/risk of such entries in BBP_DOCUMENT_TAB. Is this a known issue. is there any solution for this?
Thanks & regards,
Srivatsan

• System Copy documentation

Hi,
We have BI running on NW 2004s dual stack. We have a requirement to refresh the QA system quarterly from production. We are attempting to use following link ( SAP System Landscape Copy for SAP NetWeaver and mySAP Solutions)
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/6931413f-0b01-0010-c190-c21bc6711fb0
and note 886102 for the basic procedure, per the recommendation of my instructor in BW360.
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bw_whm/~form/handler
As the BI database is expected to grow to over a Terabyte, we would like to avoid using the R3Inst tool alone to perform the copy. From the documentation, SAP has to be down during the export, and we anticipate the export of the ABAP schema to run for several hours. As the BI database grows, this will get progressively longer. If we limit the SAPInst to the Java schema, it should limit the production downtime requirements.
The following paragraph from the How to Guide appears to indicate that this is possible, but the How to Guide is a little dated (2006).
Copy of WebAS - JAVA components
If not using the Jload tool to copy the JAVA database of an SAP WebAS JAVA or SAP WebAS ABAP+JAVA system, but one of the methods described below (e.g. database restore), there is still some JAVA-specific content in the filesystem which needs to be copied as well, both for New Installation and Refresh. With WebAS 6.40 and NetWeaver 2004s, the SAPInst tool provides the required functionality to export this filesystem content of a JAVA system (the JAVA central instance) and import it into the target system. When choosing the SAPInst option u201CCopy the database by using database toolsu201D, SAPInst will skip the Jload database export and only export the source JAVA central instance required to install or refresh the target JAVA central instance.
As far as I can tell the basic procedure to get the export is to:
a. run SMIGR_CREATE_DDL in the source system
b. run ora_br_copy.sh in the source system
c. Run sapinst
Since the How to Guide is slightly dated, the indicated path no longer exists. Can anyone provide more up to date information on how to get only the Java central instance?
Thanks,
Russ

Russ,
You said you figured it out. Did you find any other items that need to be done?
We are facing the same situation and I am doing some research on the fastest and easiest way to copy production to QA.
thanks for any information you can provide.
Bobbi

• Authorization override in Kerberos EP landscape?

We are currently developing a mySAP solution including Portals, ECC and CRM. Looking to leverage single sign-on (SSO) we are considering scenarios that would look like:
- Kerberos authentication to a Windows domain via the Portal. Authentication would be automatic and invisible to the end-user.
- Portal issues SSO2 tickets as a result of the Kerberos authentication.
- Disable the use of passwords in CRM and ECC except for support accounts.
- End-users requiring SAPGUI would need to access the Portal first and use SSO2 to login to CRM or ECC with SAPGUI.
All of this appears to be standard configuration available for mySAP.
My question: In this scenario, is it possible to do a manual override at the Portal authentication stage? For support purposes, I would like my FBA's to be able to login to SAP on an end-user workstation without requiring the user to logoff the Windows domain.
Specifically:
- User A (end user) is logged onto the workstation and thus authenticated to the Windows domain.
- User B (FBA) accesses the Portal with User A's workstation and can manually login to the Portal with User B credentials, overriding the default authentication that would otherwise take place for User A.
regards,
Greg

Yes it is possible.
Try accessing the Portal directly on the Admin port, and if you clear all cookies on User A's machine, you should get a Login screen which allows to enter a userid/password.
So, Once you get Login screen, User B with needed Support roles can login to the Portal.
We have a similar setup which works.

regards
Sashi

Hi sashi kanth ,
I would appreciate u for u'r interest shown 2wards BW b'coz it's good for career wise & since u r a ABAPer it's an added advantage while learning BW .
Now BW is known as BI.
To help knowledge workers quickly mine an enterprise’s business data, SAP BW is equipped with preconfigured information models and reports, as well as automatic data extraction and loading methods.

I have a general question in terms of Service Releases of a SAP solution:

January. The same goes for SR2; released in December; while SPS9 was
available in September.
There is a gap of 3 months between the SPS was released and the SR is released
I assume that patches that have been released for the SPS are included in the SR
therefor a system that has SPS6 or SPS9 applied is not neccisarily the same as
SR1 or SR2.
Hope this helps...
Kind regards,
Walter
