Mysql and collections

Question

I have a problem with a query in mysql:
Extent x = pm.getExtent(Container.class, true);
Query q = pm.newQuery(x,"children.contains(y)");
q.declareParameters("Item y");
Collection c = (Collection)q.execute(item);
Is it true that the mysql Dictionary makes it so that each Container-object
has to be opened in full and searched in programming? I seeded the database
with 35000 Containers and 35000 other items all in a tree hierarchy with a
max of 9 items at one level. The problem manifests when I execute the above
code and get:
SELECT t0.app_id, t0.JDOCLASSX, t0.JDOLOCKX,<SNIP>*</SNIP>, t1.app_sort FROM
tblFile t0, tblChildren t1 WHERE (t1.file_id = ? AND t0.file_id =
t1.child_id) ORDER BY t1.app_sort ASC
about a gazillion times in the kodo log.
Can you help me out?

A little extra information:
The object hierarchy is the following:
File
|
+-- Container
|
+-- Item
Container object has a Vector of Files named children which are contained
within it. Through the metadata this became the following tables:
|tblFile |
|file_id |
|file_name |
|etc... |
|tblChildren|
|file_id |
|child_id |
|app_sort |
Ordering is handled by Kodo.
