MySQL setup mysql.sock in wrong place.

Hello,
I installed mysql to usr/local and when I use the mysqladmin command stop or start i get this erro.
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' exists!
Any help would be appreciated.

[These|http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/mac-os-x-installation.html] and [these|http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/mysql-installation-macosx-notes.h tml] directions?
(/tmp isn't the best spot nor most secure for this stuff, but...)
Or you could get the [MAMP kit|http://www.mamp.info] (and possibly [this hint|http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20080128103022907]), or you could consider installing and using Mac OS X Server.

  • MySQL setup issues

    I have needed to install OS X 10.6.8 on a new HD and so I'm trying to setup MySQL again like I had running on my older HD, however I'm having some problems getting it up and running.
    So far I have followed the steps as outlined here: http://akrabat.com/php/setting-up-php-mysql-on-os-x-10-6-snow-leopard/
    I'm unable to make a connection to the MySQL via phpMyAdmin or any other platform that requires a similar connection.
    However, I am able to see the database is running. Using the MySQL Workbench I'm able to login and view the default DB. I'm also able to carry out some server administration however, if I try to look at or add a new configuration file whilst in Workbench I'm presented with this error: Permission denied: u'/etc/my.cnf'
    I have googled many options on how to fix this problem bus as yet I'm unable to solve it.
    Has anyone here had a similar problem or knows how I can fix this on

    Here is part of the php.in and php.ini.default files that covers MySQL:
    [MySQL]
    mysql.allow_local_infile = On
    mysql.allow_persistent = On
    mysql.cache_size = 2000
    mysql.max_persistent = -1

    mysql.default_port = 3306
    mysql.default_socket = /var/mysql/mysql.sock
    mysql.default_host =
    mysql.default_user =
    mysql.default_password =
    mysql.connect_timeout = 60
    mysql.trace_mode = Off
    Here is the my.cnf file:

  • Help with enabling PHP5, FasgCGI on Leopard & setup MySQL ???

    Firstly,
    Happy New Year to everyone and hoped you've had a great Xmas.
    OK, back to Business but before i start, let me ask this:
    I know some people are using MAMP/MAMP Pro as their webserver, please do me the curtsy of ignoring this thread if you are... because this relates to MacOSX built-in server not the 3rd party application.
    Hi, I'm trying to enable PHP5 and the Fastcgi modules which resides within Leopard. Also, I think i'll need to install and/or setup MySQL in the system too... I was wondering if anyone would like to give me the precise How to's to enable this, I would be really greatful! Alternatively, direct me to a page with the correct procedures, that works.
    Previously in Tiger, I managed to get everything working but recently I've done a complete erase and reinstall; Now, I'm in Leopard (again), my system is complete free from clutter.. woot!
    Thanks in advance.

    As a update I've worked out where "httpd.conf" moved to
    and managed to get PHP working..
    However there's still the FastCGI.
    Will commenting it. activate it completely? or am i missing something?
    Just a query, does anyone know how to make Virtual hosts work?
    I've uncommented the line and have been editing the "httpd-vhost.conf" file but still i'm going nowhere fast.. localhost still doesn't work, but re-commenting the line returns the server to normal.
    I'm seeking help at http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/
    but it's a little mine boggling ;-(

  • Is there a cd making software like Jam 6.0.3 that will let you crossfade songs in a playlist that works on 10.7 or later OS? Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

    Is there a software app out there like Jam 6.0.3 that allows you to arrange and crossfade songs in a playlist that works on 10.7 or later OS? I have Jam on 10.6.8 now and it works great but it will not work on 10.7 and I need to upgrade the OS to run a new Drobo setup.
    Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question please direct me to the right place.

    Hi, I'm not sure it does what you want, but only thing I can think of is Audacity...

  • IPhoto - My iPhoto is not responding. When I click on iPhoto I get a never ending spinning beachball.  I almost think it is looking in the wrong place for the pictures.  How do I redirect it back to the Mac hard drive?

    My iPhoto is not responding.  Whenever I click on the iPhoto icon I get a twirling beachball.  It is as if the machine is looking in the wrong place for the photos.  How can I see where the machine is looking to find out if this is really the problem.  How can I see the path?

    Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then the problem lies with your current library.
    If that's the case  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
    4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    5 - Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I have been editing project for two weeks and now I get ghosts of other images fromt eh project coming up in the wrong places even though the thumbnail looks right. Help.

    Help. I have been editing a project for two weeks and now it gets ghosts of ohter images from the project coming up in the wrong places. The thumbnail has the correct image but the image either does not display and its black or an old image or another one shows.

    When I have problems like this I do two things. First I shut down and restart iMovie. Sometimes that rejuggles the date. But I am sure you have been doing that in such a long project.
    The Second thing I do is delete iMovie preferences, which can get corrupted.

  • Pretend I know nothing about this topic, because I DON'T, and help me figure out how to format bullets in 'Pages' for IPad. I turned them on somehow, and now can't turn them off, and they are popping up in all the wrong places

    I think I effectively proved my point about knowing nothing about this, by posting my whole question in the title. To review, I have a 1 year old iPad, and have Pages on it for a word processing program. I somehow turned on bullets on one of my documents and can't figure out how to stop it, and they are in all the wrong places. How do I turn it off?

    If your computer is on one minute before it freezes, than you have one minute to secure your serial number.
    click the apple----->click about this Mac ------> click on version----> until you see the serial number.  You may have to do this a couple of times if it freezes before you have all the numbers.  A camera might help.
    Good Luck

  • Export to PDF puts trims in wrong place.

    When I export a pdf from CS3, selecting crop marks puts the trim marks in the wrong place, we are only talking 0.25 of a millimeter, but this is causing us problems sending files to publication. It seems to us that the crop marks are being made too long and this is causing everything to shift.
    A A4 page with a 5mm bleed and 5mm crop marks comes out as 230.6 x 317.6.
    If I print the page and select a custom size, InDesign is also giving to wrong size.
    The same error occurs in CS2 and CS4.
    Has anyone else come across this?
    If I make the file without crop marks everything is ok.

    I have found a solution, use a mrk file as this link

  • JWS requests jar files at the wrong place

    Hi all,
    I created JWS project with netbeans, and by deafult, NB places all required jar files in the "lib" folder. NB also created jnlp file with correct paths to required files. It looks like this
    <update check="always" policy="always"/>
    <resources>
         <jar download="eager" href="main.jar" main="true"/>
         <jar download="eager" href="lib/required.jar" main="false"/>
    </resources> Now, when app is started, required.jar is correctly located at lib folder and application works, but from that moment on, JWS makes hundreds of request for "${codebase}/required.jar" (obviously wrong place) and gets 404 responses. It keeps making these requests as long as app is running and this slows down application significantly.
    My temp workaround was to move required.jar to codebase root and problem is gone, but i still find it weird. I guess this may explain some complaints about slow JWS.
    Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong? Is there anything I can check?
    Thanks!

    I am trying to configure my SCXI-1540 w/1315 card for excitation voltage and frequency using MAX - but it is not giving me that option when I click on the card and then properties, am I looking in the wrong place?
    I have LabVIEW Express 7.0 Professional - SCXI-1000 Chassiss - along with SCXI-1112, and SCXI 1520/1314 - cable to the PCI-6052E is attached to the 1520 card.
    MAX says it recognizes all the cards in the chassiss.

    Jeremy, Thanks for the reply.
    I tried to set up the system as DAQmx.
    I had MAX auto-detect the set-up - and it recognized all the cards - but did not select the 1315 accessory on the 1540 card - I had to do that manually - but in the configuration section I would select the accessory and it would deselect itself. I had to get out of the set-up and then right click on the 1540 card and click on the "Accessories" tab and select the 1315 terminal block that way.
    It didn't seem right that the system should behave that way, but I pressed onward.
    I then tried to create a new DAQmx Task
    When I create new DAQmx task and then click on Analog Input no "Position" Tab appears for me to select, all I get are:
    Analog>>Voltage
    Analog>>Temperature
    Ana
    log>>Strain
    Analog>>Current
    Analog>>Resistance
    Analog>>Frequency
    Analog>>Custom Voltage with Excitation
    Do you think there might be something wrong with either my hardware or perhaps my configuration that is not allowing it to recognize the 1540/1315 in DAQmx?
    I had included the system report of what programs I am using, etc. as attached file nireport.txt
    After the DAQmx did not work I tried installing everything as Traditional DAQ and it did let me set-up the 1540 Card with Excitation Voltage and Frequency and gain - I then went in to the VI that I had built and tried to use the Express DAQ Assisant to read the channel that I am connected to on the 1315/1540 - when I try to use DAQ Assistant it gives me an error saying that "Device not available in NI-DAQmx. It is possible that the device is being use by traditional NI-DAQ"
    Which I guess it is since both configurations are now set-up in MAX.
    I would PREFER to use the DAQmx set-up, but I am confused as to WHY it won
    't come up with
    Analog input>>POSITION>>LVDT
    When I try to create a new DAQmx task.
    Thanks for the help so far! As you can probably tell I am new at this.

  • Drawing in wrong place

    Hello,
    I have a JFrame with a few text areas. When you click on text area a black border appears. and WHen you click it again, it dissappears. I am putting this code in mouseClicked() method. I am using g.drawRect to draw the border and to specify the location, I use getLocationOnScreen.
    The border does work as it should. However, if I move the JFrame. NExt time I click on the textarea, the rectangle is drawn in wrong place. Any suggestions how I can solve this problem?
    Of course, the program I am writing is not as trivial as this, but this is my problem. I am basically trying to let the user know which text area is selected.
    Thanks!

    In the interest of simplicity I didn't limit the selection to three.import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.border.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Test extends JFrame {
      public Test() {
        setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
        Container content = getContentPane();
        content.setLayout(new GridBagLayout());
        GridBagConstraints gbc = new GridBagConstraints(0,0,1,1,1.0,1.0,
                GridBagConstraints.CENTER, GridBagConstraints.BOTH,
                new Insets(1,1,1,1),0,0);
        for (int i=0; i<7; i++) {
          gbc.gridx=i%2;
          gbc.gridy=i/2;
          content.add(new JScrollPane(new MyTextArea("TA-"+i)),gbc);
        setSize(300,300);
        show();
      public static void main(String args[]) { new Test(); }
    class MyTextArea extends JPanel {
      JCheckBox jcb = new JCheckBox();
      JTextArea jta = new JTextArea();
      public MyTextArea(String Text) {
        setLayout(new BorderLayout());
        jta.setLineWrap(true);
        jta.setWrapStyleWord(true);
        add(new JScrollPane(jta),BorderLayout.CENTER);
        jcb.setText(Text);
        add(jcb,BorderLayout.NORTH);
      public void addActionListener(ActionListener al) {
        jcb.addActionListener(al);
      public void setText(String text) { jcb.setText(text); }
      public String getText() { return jcb.getText(); }
    }

    chessyy,
    Sorry that you had this problem.
    The software coupons are pretty much useless unless Apple says they are worth something for a very specific reason. In your case they will be worthless.
    You do not tell us much about your iMac, but as you have 512-768M of RAM, 10-15% free Hard Drive space, and a 733-1GHz processor I would recommend that you Upgrade to Tiger. Be sure to read the iLife '06 System Requirements and Notes for your own edification.
    Tiger can be purchased at AppleRescue for $79.00.
    You can install it over iLife '06 using an Archive and Install. Software update will bring you to the latest version of Tiger.
    I will mention this last, but it really should be your first step...backup your important files.
    ;~)

  • First photo in event has wrong place

    When you assign a place to an entire event, the first photo of the event will retain the LAST place assigned at a prior time. If you open up the event and click on a photo you will see the wrong place flash on the into window and then settle back to the right place. So you must open each event you assign a place and just select any photo. It will then be correct for all photos.

    This was driving me nuts! Thanks for posting the fix.
