Mysterious Black outline around selected items???

This morning, when I started my computer there is a Black outline appearing around the selected item or window throughout my system... For example; around the icon/folder/file selected in the finder, around the entire Safari browser window, around various items in Mail- the inbox portion, around where the flagged message icon would appear when a message is selected. etc. The same thing is happening in some other programs as well. Everything appears to be working just fine & I have tried restarting, repairing permissions, cleaning cashe, zap P-RAM, etc. Any idea what is causing this?? Is it a problem. or just something screwy that will hopefully go away? Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jeremy

Found the answer.. Turned VoiceOver Off. Must have gotten accidentally turned on Last Friday after too many F5 refreshes during the woot!-Off!!!

  • Black boxes around selected items-

    While using Q-Xpress this morning on a flat panel G5 w/OS10.4.11,
    Black boxes started showing up on every item that is selected. Desktop items, also around the name on the top window of any open folder. I used the key command optshft5 by accident while in Xpress,but it didn't do anything. I needed to bring something to the front and F5 was what I should've pressed. Now these black lines appear around every selected item. I've looked in the sys prefs panel and every where else I can think. There doesn't seem to be any reference to this anywhere.
    Can anyone tell me what I've done?

    Have you looked in Universal Access>Seeing? Otherwise, reboot and reset your PRAM.

  • Mysterious black outline around imported jpg

    We created a logo for a client. She is reporting that every time she uses it there is a black outline showing up around the edge of the .jpg.
    We have checked all of our files thoroughly, and there is no outline on any of them.
    Does anyone know why this might be happening?
    Thanks!

    Sara,
    One other thing, not directly related to your concern, but a concern nonetheless...
    Good logos are generally constructed as vectors, not pixels. "Illustrator" vector formats (e.g. .ai, .eps) will give you the best images. If you must use a pixel-based format, stick with .tif, .psd, .eps.
    The .jpg format is lossy and can leave you with blotchy, unsharp logotypes or marks, particularly if they consist mainly of type, line and color and if the .jpg is highly compressed.
    (For Web, the choices would be .gif for type, line and color; .jpg for photographic images.)

  • How do I get a black outline around my shapes?

    Hello I somehow managed to get a black outline around my shapes (as seen in the attachment) which I would like to know how to do. I have no idea how I did this! Can anyone help?

    Lanithu,
    If you mean the black shapes of varying width showing the hand and face, you may start/do it in this way for each:
    1) Create the basic shape (one of the edges) with a stroked path;
    2) Move a copy the desired distance in the desired direction (down to the right for the hand, a bit up to the right for the face);
    3) Adjust Anchor Points as desired (such as (some of) the ones at the mouth);
    4) Select the inner path and Object>Path>Offest Path to create the path for the Path Type, delete unwanted segments (the end segments and the opposite part); you may Type before or after going on with the shapes;
    5) Connect each pair of paths to form closed paths, and reshape the end portions as desired;
    6) Add fill and remove stroke.

  • Black outlines around my icons

    Every icon I click on has a black outline around it. Plus I have 2 Shutdowns instead of one? It's very distracting

    Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on Seeing, and turn VoiceOver off.

  • Black outline around whole screen

    My imac recently began to display a thick black outline around the screen, about a half inch on the sides, a little less on top and bottom. Any ideas?

    Hi Ionmore,
    This black line do you see this only on your desktop ??
    Try to hit the F11 key on your keyboard.

  • Outline around selected TOC items

    WebHelp | RH9
    I've just installed IE9 and when I launch my published WebHelp and select a link in the table of contents, it displays a dotted outline around the selected item. This never happened with IE8, so I was wondering if there's anyway to prevent it? Is it possible to add "outline:none" somewhere in the RoboHelp output (like you would when styling a link in CSS) so that it doesn't appear?
    Many thanks
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,
    Unfortunately, IE proved a harder nut to crack than I imagined. The problem is that IE9 does support the outline css, but the TOC runs in quircks mode so no IE9 goodness there... There is a solution, it's just not as straightforward as I thought. See http://www.wvanweelden.eu/robohelp/modifying_webhelp/remove_outline_in_toc for a step by step guide to get rid of the outline.
    Note: If you'll allow me, I'd like to use your example image on my site. It looks way better than the example image I added

  • Black outlines around images in pdfs from Indesign

    I'm not sure if this is an Indesign problem or Acrobat. I have imported several photoshop files in which I have deleted the background around the figures. The background is transparent. When I make a pdf from Indesign, there is a black outline that appears, tracing the edge of the figures. Does anyone know what might cause this and how to fix. I have imported this kind of file many times with no problems.

    Check if they're RGB in PS. I had this problem recently when exporting to PDF. It didn't show in ID file but showed in PDF. I converted to CMYK, relinked, and exported new PDF and the problem went away.

  • Spry Tabbed Panel - Dotted outline around selected tab

    Hello there,
    I noticed in Spry Tabbed Panels, once a tab is selected,
    there is a dotted outline around the selected tab (the 'focus').
    How do I hide it? I've seen a similar set up using JQuery which has
    the dotted outline automatically disappear after a tab is selected.
    I've set up a demo at my personal website to illustrate what I'm
    getting at.
    http://www.sgdanielwang.com/spry/tabbed.htm
    Could someone spare a bit of time to have a look and advise
    me?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dan

    Thanks, Arnout.
    Your solution got rid of the dotted focus outline. However
    the problem persists in Internet Explorer. I read at the following
    site:
    http://codylindley.com/Javascript/223/hiding-the-browsers-focus-borders-should-i-shouldnt- i
    that the focus can be hidden using a javascript which looks
    for all <a> element in the HTML file and disables the focus.
    But in the case of the Spry Tabbed Panel, the <a> is actually
    specified in CSS. Is there a CSS 'hack' to make the focus disappear
    in Internet Explorer?

    Dan

  • Indesign document PDFs with Black outline around pages ... and ...

    Hi guys
    I have posted this problem in the acrobat section but have thought it could be an indesign issue also.
    Basically I am PDFing an InDesign CC document with crop and bleed for a printer.  For some reason, on some pages, it adds a black/grey outline to pages, and in some cases seems to crop the page so there is no bleed.
    Any thoughts?  Original post with image can be seen here: PDF has strange black outline at printers end?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply Rob.  This is not the case - I know this as other pages in the document have there bleed correct (5mm all around).  I have resolved the black outline issue, but now have this bleed issue.  On my screen the PDF looks fine but for some reason when the printer opens it, they do not get the bleed on the left edge!
    Thanks

  • Nasty black borders around clicked items

    I am suddenly getting nasty black borders around file names I click on (and not just in the finder). Although ugly I would be able to live with if it wasn't for the fact that they can remain on the screen. It looks like corruption. Does anyone have a remedy?

    VoiceOver is on, you probably accidentally hit that magic keystoke that turns it on (command-F5, I think.) Hit the keystroke again, or go to System Preferences -> Universal Access to turn it off.

  • PDF has strange black outline at printers end?

    Hi all
    I am trying to send a PDF of a book to a printing company in Japan (clients choice!), and I am doing everything I would usually do, supplying with crop marks and bleed.
    When they open the PDF it seems to have cropped many of the pages and put a black outline around it.
    I insert a screen shot (note this is page 7.  Page 6 is NOT white, therefore it has removed the crop on the left side!)
    Any advice gratefully received.  At my end, some of the pages do seem to have a black outline for some reason on my PDF but they fall outside of the crop marks.
    Thanks!

  • CS3 to CS2 conversion black outlines appearing

    Hello!
    I hope that someone can help, please. Our company has recently upgraded to InDesign CS3. However, when someone saves a file as a .inx interchange so that someone still using CS2 can view it, all the vector image files in the InDesign file then all have black outlines around them. I've seen this as a problem on here with PDFing before, but this is just when the file is opened and hasn't been PDFed at all.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Helen

    Yes, we knew it would never be a breeze, but we've had other people who have been lucky enough not to have problems, so just wondered if it was something we were doing that was causing the problem.
    Thanks, I'll try and get a colleague to make a screenshot as I'm just the IT fixer, I'm not actually working on the files in question.
