Mysterious duplicates in Bridge

I store all of my files on an external hard drive connected to my iMac and then access them both from my iMac and from my MacBook over the network. I often experience duplicate files when doing full screen previews and also in viewing the thumbnails. All of the files are raw .CR2 files. I will see the same filename twice with the same thumbnail. The strange part is if I change the rating or label on one, it also updates the duplicate. I've looked in the directory itself and there is only one copy of each file. Is this some sort of strange cache issue? I export cache to folder as well.
Any thoughts/suggestions? If not I may soon need to be admitted.....
Thanks!

Don't have experiences with working over a network but it is a known issue
that Adobe Bridge does not support all networks and servers because there
are to many differences between them.
Try a search in the adobe knowledge base Adobe.com / support / knowledge
base.
Maybe the use of Version cue is something for you?

  • Okay, How do I Duplicate my Bridge Workflow?

I shoot a Nikon D200. When I return to my studio, I import the files from my CF cards and convert to DNG in the process. The LR import does this well, so I can replace my Bridge import with LR.
I then select the photos that I want to keep and adjust them in ACR. LR has that built in, so I'm good there, too.
    But...
At this point, I typically use the "Image Processor" to create a new directory of those images, taken to PSD, and run an action on them that creates a number of custom adjustment layers. I then go into Photoshop and edit those images. I don't see how to do this in LR.
Sure, I can edit them one-by-one in Photoshop, but that's rather time consuming.
Is there a way to have LR batch process my selected DNG files into a new directory as PSD so I can then edit them for retouching and then move to the printing or web phase?

I think you can go either way, if you want to make the target folder your watched folder. However, normally I think you may have to reimport but I don't know for sure.

  • Mysterious duplicates of all photos

Every time I download new photos from my camera to iPhoto I find that when I go to 'All Photos' there are two and sometimes three copies of each photo. Sometimes one copy will have the jpg (small letters) extension and the second copy will have JPG (capital letters) extension.
Is this some sort of automatic backup? I have an external hard drive which I use with Time Machine to back up everything, and all these extra copies are taking up a lot of room!
Would I be screwing things up if I go through and delete copies? Don't want to take action until I get the opinion of experts - I am an artist and these photos are essential to my work.
    Thanks for the help.

Would I be screwing things up if I go through and delete copies?
    1. They are not copies and yes, you would certainly be screwing things up if you go through and delete anything.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
Really, stay away from that All Images Saved Search, it doesn't understand the iPhoto Library.
When you import a photo into iPhoto the pics is copied into the Library plus a tiny thumbnail is created for display in the iPhoto Window. If you edit a pic in iPhoto the original is preserved and the edits carried out on a copy. IPhoto, therefore, can have up to three versions of the pic. All are necessary, none are copies.

  • Canon 5d2 DNG +custom profiles = bad preview in Bridge?

I'm using DNG Profile Editor (1.0.0.39 Beta 2) to make custom profiles for my new Canon 5D Mark II, and then using DNG Converter (5.2) plus Photoshop CS3 Bridge to process images. All on Windows XP.
After my 5D2 custom profiles were in place I noticed that the image preview in Bridge CS3 was "bad." The Bridge preview is very blurry and does not update when changes are made to the DNG file via ACR. For example, if I change exposure in ACR and click "Done" or "Open in Photoshop, the change is saved OK in the DNG file but the Bridge preview remains the original blurry image.
Took a long time to figure this out because I did not immediately associate the problem with the creation of custom profiles. Older 5D2 DNG files previewed OK in Bridge, as did DNG files from my other cameras. I even re-converted some old camera raw files to DNG and they previewed OK in Bridge. There are custom profiles in place for those older cameras.
I spent a lot of time on the usual suspects - purging cache, reseting preferences. All to no avail. Then I removed all my custom profiles and deleted the index.dat file. Ran DNG converter again to make new DNG files from the 5D2 raw. Now the Bridge preview was OK. Then I restored my custom profiles and converted raw to DNG again, getting bad Bridge previews again. Yet the previous converted files would still preview OK in Bridge.
My conclusion: The DNG converter is using camera profiles during the conversion, and in the case of 5D Mark II raw files is creating an error. I'm guessing it is putting an embedded jpeg in the DNG file that somehow confuses Bridge.
I've repeated the tests many times now. I've changed the DNG Converter "jpeg preview" preference to none, medium and full. For the 5D2 files I get bad Bridge previews on all settings. But I get good Bridge previews on my Canon 20D and Canon 1Ds DNG files regardless of any settings. Regardless of the presence or absence of custom profiles, regardless of the jpeg preview size, regardless of the ACR default settings.
So I'm hoping the Adobe team can take a look at this. Or anyone willing to confirm or deny my tests. I don't have an easy way to post a DNG file, but could email one of my "bad" ones to anyone willing to take a look.

The lack of response to this post forced me to keep testing. Now I've more closely pinpointed the problem and found an easy work around. First some background.
ACR camera profiles are stored in two places. The Adobe supplied profiles are in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
and your custom profiles are in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
Adobe Camera Raw, and it turns out the DNG Converter, both build an Index.dat file in this last folder. Apparently this index is built by scanning both camera profile directory trees and building a list of all the profiles it finds. It then sorts that list alphabetically by the profile name that is embedded in the file, not the Windows file name.
The "Adobe Standard" profile for a camera has a file name like "Canon EOS 5D Mark II Adobe Standard.dcp", but embedded in that file is the profile name of just "Adobe Standard". That's why only "Adobe Standard" shows up in the drop down list of profiles in ACR. And that's why "Adobe Standard" appears before "Camera Faithful", which appears before "Camera Landscape". It's alphabetical order.
Now, when you create a custom profile with the DNG Profile Editor, the "Export" function puts "Canon EOS 5D Mark II" on the front of the name. If you are an idiot, like me, you type over all that with something simple like "5D2 Bouce Flash" for the profile name. But wait, "5D2 Bounce Flash" sorts alphabetically before "Adobe Standard" and appears first in the ACR drop down menu. Sounds OK so far.
But then the magic occurs. The DNG converter uses the camera profiles. It actually accesses that Index.dat file, and if it does not exist, the DNG converter will rebuild it, just like ACR. Why it does that I can't imagine. Seems to me that the DNG converter should be simply converting raw to DNG and passing the EXIF and embedded camera jpeg along as is. What need does it have for camera profiles?
Anyhow, if that 5D2 profile is first in the list due to its alpahbetical name, the resulting DNG file will confuse Bridge. Bridge will display a fuzzy preview and will never update that preview, or the thumbnail, when you make adjustments in ACR.
But if you name the 5D2 custom profile such that it sorts alphabetically after "Adobe Standard", then all is OK. The DNG files can be previewed and thumbed OK by Bridge. So I named my custom profile "My 5D2 Bounce Flash", a simple workaround.
Now I can move on to more important things. Like generating a good custom profile for the 5D2. So far the Adobe Standard profile beats anything I've generated. Especailly if I remove that curious Point Curve which can sometimes muck up the shadows.
And now that Bridge previews are "OK" I can work on the mystery of why Bridge Previews of 5D2 DNG files do not match the previews of their equivalent TIF or PSD files. If you're curious you can see samples and read more about that here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=30748423

  • Duplicate files

I have duplicate files in the media pane. This occurred when I added some photos to my file in Photoshop Bridge. Then I did a "Batch Rename" for about half the images in the file to maintain chronological order. Usually when I make a change like this, iDVD makes the appropriate changes also. This time however, I have duplicate images - not the new ones, but some that were already there. The file names of the duplicates are consecutive, which messes up all the succeeding image names (numbers). I suspect this will cause problems as I progress with my slideshow. The images do not show up as duplicates in Bridge or anywhere else. I find no clues to the problem in the metadata. Any ideas?

    Hi Mardi:
Don't know if it will work-but it sure won't hurt anything.
Try deleting the iphoto preference file. Close Iphoto. Then locate a file named com.apple.iphoto.plist and get rid of it. Then empty the trash, run a permissions repair with disk utility and restart. That might do it. The files you need to delete are found in:
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iphoto.plist

  • Bridge Tables

    Hi,
I am having a little trouble using bridge tables. For testing I created an n-n relation. When I just make joins it shows the link table like fact table but queries work okay. When I check the bridge table check box, it identifies the correct fact and dimension tables, but I get a consistecy warning since one of the dimension tables does not join to any fact table and also querires don't work.
So how exactly should I use the bridge table, and also why do I need it?

    Hi,
Find the link below which might help you.

  • Weight factors in a many-to-many relationship with bridge table

Hi, I have the same N:N relationship schema of this link:
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2008/08/28/the-mystery-of-obiee-bridge-tables/
In my bridge table I have a weight factor for every couple (admission, diagnosis). If I aggregate and query in Answers these columns:
    DIAGNOSIS | ADMISSIONS_COSTS
every single diagnosis has the sum of the WHOLE Admission_cost it refers to, not its contribute to it (for example 0.30 as weight factor). The result is an ADMISSION_COSTS sum larger than the ADMISSION_COSTS sum in the lowest detail level, because it sums many times the same cost.
How could I use my weight factor and calculate the right diagnosis contribute to its admission? In BI Admin I tried to build a calculated LogicalColumn based on Physical column, but in the expression builder I can select only the ADMISSION_COST measure physical column, and it doesn't let me pick the weight factor from the bridge table.
    Thanks in advance!

I'm developing a CS degree project with 2 professors, Matteo Golfarelli and Stefano Rizzi, who have developed the Dimensional Fact Model for data warehouses and wrote many books about it.
They followed the Kimball theory about N:N and used its bridge table concept, so when I said them that in OBIEE there is this definition they were very happy.
But they stopped this happiness when I said that bridge tables only connect fact tables to dimension tables, and to create N:N between levels at higher aggregation we should use logical joins as you said in your blog. I need to extract metadata concepts from UDML exportation language, and about N:N I can do it only with bridge table analysis, I can't extract and identify a N:N level relationship from a multiple join schema as in your blog... this is the limit of your solution for our project, only this!
PS: sorry for my english, I'm italian!
    thanks for the replies!

  • Bridge Table

    HI gurus,
I have 5 fact tables and one bridge table. When ever I am joining bridge table with one fact table it is working fine. But if try to joins with other fact table it is giving error. my question is should we connect bridge table with only one fact table? if not why I am getting error. Any idea
i am really appreciate for your help

    Hi User -
Typically, a bridge table is supposed to give a solution to a "multi-valued" dimension table, and isn't really designed to connect two fact tables together. Rather, a bridge table is meant to connect between a fact and a dimension.
Here is a really good article written by Mark Rittman discussing bridge tables and their uses:
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2008/08/28/the-mystery-of-obiee-bridge-tables/
If you are looking to combine two fact tables using a dimension table (i.e. you have your SALES_F and your SERVICE_ORDERS_F fact tables that both associate to your DATE_D dimension), I recommend creating an alias of your DATE_D table and connecting each separate instance to a different fact. You can create an alias by right-clicking on the table in your physical layer of the RPD and selecting "New Object > Alias...". This alias acts as an identical copy of the original, and will update if there are any changes to the main version, but still allows you to use multiple instances to multiple facts.
    I hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Jason

  • Source bridge error

I have a simple DLSw config that doesn't seem to be working. The peers are up, but when the "debug source bridge" command is issued the following appears on the screen...
    Error only happens on R2

    source-bridge 116 2 400
    source-bridge spanning
    bridge 5 protocol ieee
The error only happens once the source-bridge spanning command is issued on the Token-Ring interface (on R2). From what I understand you need it in a DLSw setup to forward the single route explorer frames.
The client cannot seem to bring up a circuit so I am not sure if there is a configuration problem or not. The debug looks like a broadcast to me...so perhaps there is something wrong with their local config. I guess I just want an answer to what the debug really means...because I cannot find anything on it...Cisco or the Net.
    Thanks...
    Brett

    Brett,
the error message is making you aware of the fact that a certain frame is due to be forwarded onto a ring number it already has an entry for in its rif.
However in certain situations this is also seen in working environments due to the inner working of the cisco source bridging code.
Are you sure that there is no duplicate source-bridge path? If yes, ignore the message.
If the error message is only seen when you use source-bridge spanning to forward single route explorers on the tokenring than you can do the following. Assuming we are talking about sna in this example:
    dlsw allroute-sna
in this case dlsw will forward explorers outbound towards the tokenring as allroute explorers for sna on a tokenring interface. The default is as single-route explorer.
However inbound into the router it is purely dependend on what the end system does. If the end system, the client, starts with a single route explorer you still need source-bridge spanning on the interface, otherwise dlsw will not see the frame.
How does the setup physcially look like?
Is your client on the tokenring or on the ethernet interface attached to dlsw?
I understand from your description that the client is behind R2, so when you issue a show dlsw reachability
    can you see the client?
    debug dlsw reach verbose
should give you an idea if the client tries to start a session and with what dmac.
Is dlsw trying to start a circuit? I.e. in what state is the circuit if there is one?
show dlsw circuit history detail can give you some more ideas what happened, if the router tries to start a circuit and it is not successfull. However you need to know a great deal of dlsw to fully understand that output.
A sniffer on the tokenring will certainly show if the client tries to start a session and with what dmac.
There are lots of possibilities why this might not work, so it is most likely the best to open a case with the tac and work the issue till conclusion.
    thanks...

  • Many-to-many relations and hierarchies

    Hi,
I have a fact table (FACT_TRANSACTIONS), where two of the the dimension tables are DIM_CUSTOMER and DIM_BROKER. One customer can be related to several brokers, and one broker can be related to several customers. For the associations between customers and brokers I have a lookup table that contains, on each row, the primary keys of associated records from each dimension (customer_id, broker_id).
    Question 1
How can I model this so that, in Answers, i can create reports based on both customers and brokers? (Transaction data comes only with reference to the customer_id, so the brokers have to be found via the lookup table mentioned above)
    Required report 1: | broker | customer | profit |
    Required report 2: | customer | broker | profit |
    Question 2
In addition, both DIM_CUSTOMER.ORG_ID and DIM_BROKER.ORG_ID refer to leaf nodes in the internal organization hierarchy. When these attributes are in the dimension tables, how can I implement functionality so that, in Answers, one can drill down in the organization hierarchy and see the customers and brokers related to the given organizational unit?
Any tips on how to approach this would be greatly appreciated,
    best regards

  • HELP!  Ghost Drives!

    hi co-forumers,
i have been tolerant and quiet about this for ages, but can no longer stand this.
when attaching external usb drives to my macbook, Finder shows them all without any problem. however, when it comes to saving a file either from the internet or offline - via any application, basically - the Open windows of those applications reveal some "mysterious" duplicates of my external drives! e.g. if the drive's title is "200GB", i see "200GB 1", "200GB 2", "200GB 3", "200GB 4" (it originally started with just one duplicate for each drive, now their number is growing, though)...
the problem is that i don't know where those duplicates are located. i figured out that my actual drive is "200GB 4" (for some unknown reason), BUT - if i fail to specify that exact location of the real drive at the moment of saving a file, the file is saved on one of those duplicates, ghost drives, which i can't access via FInder (as i don't know where they are!).
hence, dozens of important files have been saved on those ghost drives and gone for good.
please help me out, will you?!

There is an invisible folder named /Volumes at the root level of your internal drive which is supposed to contain only the "mount points" for your volumes, but sometimes an actual folder can mistakenly get created there, possibly as a result of a failed copy operation. If /Volumes contains such a "ghost" folder with the same name as an external volume, then it might be unable to mount the real external volume without changing the name of the mount point. Such ghost folders can also waste a lot of disk space.
/Volumes is a hidden folder, but it's easy to peek into it. First you should eject and then physically disconnect all external drives. Then:
    Finder>Go menu> Go to Folder
    enter /Volumes and click Go
You should see an alias to the startup volume. Don't touch this, or any other aliases. Do you also see any folders which are NOT aliases, with names and sizes similar to the external volumes?
If so, drag them to the desktop, reboot, and retrieve any missing files that are not present in the real external volumes. Once you have retrieved all you need, you can put the ghost folders in the trash. Now re-connect the real external drives and check their mount points in Disk Utility - they should no longer have an added number. If all seems well, and you have all your files, you can empty the trash.

  • Problem with duplicated songs in iTunes library.

    Hi folks,
Following a recent sync between my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8) and iPod touch (3rd Gen, iOS 6.1.6), my iTunes library (v 11.4) now contains duplicate tracks of every song on certain albums. Seems to affect random artists and albums and is only in my MacBook library - not on the iPod.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this happens and, more importantly, how to 'undo it'? I've tried another sync and MacBook re-starts, but no result.
    Very grateful for any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    AJ707

I am having a similar problem. these mystery duplicates are turning into a real furball. In passing, I would like to say also that this so-called "feature" called "up next" is so unbelievably intrusive and annoying. It makes debugging this problem, which is already terrible bad enough to make me wish for an itunes substitute. I never thought it would get this awful. I have about 70 mystery tracks in my library which I am trying to get rid of. I have to go through them one by one and unless I manually clear out the up next list which takes about 3 clicks, every time I click on one of these mystery tacks the same **** song plays. Very awful. It took me along time to figure that out. I thought there was some data corruption somehow. Turned out it was just a sadist at Apple improving the program.
Here's an example. When I arrange my library in song view, I scroll all the way down to the bottom where these mystery files are. There is a bunch of them that have the album name "JS Bach Transcriptions". But there is no album or playlist in my library with that name! When I click on one of them, it will play some organ music that is vaguely familiar, but not immediately placeable by me. It sounds familiar, but what album or playlist it goes with I have no idea. All of the boxes in the rightmost column are all checked. I know from a painful experiment that if I just hit delete on these mystery tracks, something somewhere in the playlists will also be disappeared and I have no idea what it will be. I found this out from working with a small playlist of five tracks. Each of these for some reason had a duplicate which shows up with the other mystery tracks at the bottom of the song list. They are at least identifiable. If I hit delete in the song list and then go back to the playlist view, the entire playlist of five songs has been wiped out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it is so irritating. In the prefs window advanced tab, I have the "keep itunes media folder organized" unchecked. I don't know what checking that box would do. Maybe it''s important. If anybody knows about this, I'd like to know. I'd also really really like to know how to turn off the u next for good. Man I hate that thing.

  • Loading dupliacate songs via playlists....

Maybe this is not the right way to do this, but.....
I have created a playlist in iTunes to contain songs I want copying to my Shuffle (makes it easier to manage them - I just drag the playlist to the shuffle and it keeps synchronised)
Anyway, the songs on the Shuffle are played "shuffled" but I'd like some songs to appear more often - so I copy them into the playlist multiple times and click "add" when iTunes tells me I am adding duplicates
Now, I have a playlist with duplicates - so far so good
Snag is, when the playlist is sync'd to the Shuffle - the duplictae entries disappear and every song is there only once.
I can MANUALLY add duplicates to the Shuffle, but surely duplicates in a playlist should be synchronised "as is" anyway
    Suggestions/Thoughts welcome
    Thanks
    Phil G

OK, this just got a bit odder
I noticed that the list of songs on the Shuffle was missing more than just the duplicates and no matter how hard I press "sync", although it looks like it's syncing, the naylist stays different
    BUT
If I manually delete all from the Shuffle and THEN sync - ALL of the tracks get copied - including my mysterious duplicates
    This can't be right
I have 50 songs in a playlist - sync'd to the Shuffle so there are 50 songs there too
Add one song to the Playlist - now 51 songs there. Sync and there are still ONLY 50 on the Shuffle......
What I am I not understanding about the iPod Shuffle synchronisation process??
    Thanks

  • Duplicate Italic Keywords in Bridge

    You asked....
In the keyword panel,I have the same keyword in several places in the hierarchy. I think some came in as legacy keywords, and others, I inadvertently created the same keyword twice. These duplicates appear in different parts of the whole keyword list. Now so I don't have all those confusing duplicates, and so I can find stuff, I would like to delete the extra keywords. The duplicates appear in italics. I can make them persistent, but I can't get rid of them. I've tried all sorts of things like finding all the files with the keyword in question, manually deleting the words and then re entering. I can delete the words, but they will magically reappear. What I want to do is consolidate multiple, duplicate kewords. Is that possible? Any ideas? Thanks
Here is the summary of details and how to fix this.
When you create keywords in Bridge, the metadata is stored in the xmp file in unicode 8 format.
While that sounds like software techno babble, a point emerges.
When Bridge reads the xmp file it reports on keywords that already exist within your own keyword library and this is indicated by a floating italic keyword.
While this does not harm anything, it is a mess to read and organize.
    Here is the fix.
You must follow these steps EXACTLY or you may create the need to re-keword files.
    1. Create a new UNIQUE keyword. I suggest capital "AAAA" (no quotes) since this places the keyword at the very top of your keywords.
    2. Do a Find with the keyword of interest. (typically one of the italic keywords that appear but choose the keyword in your Keyword Library and Not the italic keyword)
    3. Once the files are found, check the keyword in the Filter panel ON THE LEFT side of the Bridge screen where the keyword lists appear. (your Keyword Library is the panel on the right of the screen)
    4. Select ALL in the browser window.
    5. On the right side of the screen in the Keyword Library apply "AAAA" (or unique keyword of your choice) to the selected files. (no quotes) WAIT!.... for Bridge to COMPLETELY finish writing the metadata. (thousands of files can take some time, just watch the lower left progress indicator carefully!!!! and if you have tens of thousands consider using this technique to individual folders rather than entire root directories BE WISE!.... too many files can run Bridge out of memory and create a new problem)
    6. On the left side of the screen in the Filter keyword lists panel, check AAAA.
    7. On the right side of the screen in the keywords library panel navigate to where you would prefer to have the duplicate keyword located just so you know where it is.... Do NOT apply.
    8. On the right side of the screen where the italic duplicate keyword appears (alphabetically as it works out) uncheck the duplicate italic keyword and WAIT for bridge to COMPLETELY finish erasing the italic keyword.
    Here's the trick.
What you have done is made a unique selection based a unique find and applied the unique keyword AAAA and have instructed Bridge to show all files within the unique search that NOW have the keyword AAAA and have erased the keyword that you used to do a Find, ie, the duplicate. (you will see that the unique word you used to do the Find will now be italic and "0" in the Filter keywords lists on the left side of the screen.
All the photos will remain selected because they are now identified by AAAA.
    Now for the next step.
    9. In the Keyword Library on the right side of the screen, Navigate to the place where you wish the duplicate keyword to be located in step 7.
    10. Check the keyword and apply the keyword from the place where you want it (step 7) and WAIT for Bridge to COMPLETELY finish writing the metadata keyword. (the keyword lists on the left will no longer be italic and will be the exact number of files you selected)
    11. IMPORTANT!!!!!...... now uncheck AAAA in the keyword library to remove AAAA from the Filter keyword lists on the left. YOU MUST DO THIS AND NOT FORGET.
(verify that AAAA is now italic and has "0" files)
Believe it or not, you are done!
You have now removed the italic keyword on the right permanently.
Oddly enough, you won't see the italic keyword on the right go away, why is that you ask?
The italic duplicate keyword you see is in Ram and will not go away until you Quit and ReLaunch Bridge.
Like magic, the duplicate italic keyword has vanished.
You must repeat this technique for EVERY file that has a duplicate keyword whether you created it or not otherwise the duplicate italic keyword will once again reappear.
I VERY STRONGLY SUGGEST.... that you repeat these steps For ONE duplicate keyword Find at a time, in fact I cannot suggest this strongly enough. One Keyword At A Time.
While you can use this technique for more than one keyword at a time, you will only cause more work as you go through this process.
Sound complicated?..... its not..... do this once or twice and see that it is easier done than said.
    PS
I have more than a million files keyworded and had to use this technique myself. (I devised this technique out of pure necessity and if followed and understood.... it works perfectly)

Workflow...  A couple weeks ago I decided it was time to reload from scratch, so I re-installed Windows 7.  Which meant re-installing Photoshop and all that stuff.  Which meant it did all the updates.
I've been doing other stuff, so I'm not sure I've been in Bridge where I'd have noticed the problem in the last week or so, which is about how long I've had all the new installs up and running...
So, it's a brute force "fix", but I opened Bridge and dithe "reset your preferences" thing.  Then immediately un-installed all the Photoshop stuff and re-installed all the Photoshop stuff.  When I restarted Bridge I pointed the cache at a different partition......
I have NO idea WHICH thing fixed it, but no more phantom folders...  Curt, your idea about workflow finally got me thinking WHY was I only seeing recent folders as phantoms rather than ALL the ones I'd fiddled with...  And the ones I WAS seeing were all recent - in the last week or so.  So WHY it'd make any difference I don't know, but it appears to be happy again.  I'll try fiddling with stuff in Lightroom, make sure no new phantom folders show up, then if it's good I"ll point things back to the "cache" partition...
    Thanks for your help...
