Mysterious Noise HP dv6000 when muted

I am worried that my out of warranty hp dv6000 CTO pavillion laptop has an issue.
At random times my computer will make a loud and higher pitched sound. The sound even occurs when the computer is muted. It does not sound like a bios low pitch beep. It often occurs when I am doing nothing at all on the computer. The noise does not sound like it is coming from the speakers either. I am worried that this is a warning beep related to a fan or something internal. The beep has started occuring more often (used to be once or twice a month, now is 2-3 a week). I tried troubleshooting and trying to isolate the problem with no success. I google searched for any existing answers to this topic and no success. Anyone have any suggestions?

I bought my laptop only a few weeks ago. From about day 2 it started with this random beeping noise. It doesn't seem to be coming from the speakers and it happens completely randomly. It used to just happen late at night so I figured maybe it was an overheating thing from using it all day but now it happens first thing in the morning when the computer has been in sleep mode all night. Some of the things I have already done: checked the hard drives and RAM are seated properly, restarted the computer (repeatedly), installed Windows updates, done a virus scan.
Here's a YouTube video of the noise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_f1RUdpKi4
HP, any idea what could be causing this? I am about to do a BIOS upgrade and update the chipset drivers to see if that helps but I'm not holding my breath.
If anyone else has a similar issue it would be good to hear from you. BTW, I am using WIndows 7 32-bit Home Premium.

Just to confirm, you have -not- installed the CoreAudio standalone driver -and- the one that installs with ProTools? This can certainly cause problems.

  • HELP! How do I get rid of the volume noise that plays when I switch from internal speakers to external speakers?

How do I get rid of the volume noise that plays when I switch from internal speakers to external speakers? I'm trying to watch something on my TV through an HDMi cable (& apple adapter) and when I go to switch the sound control in preferences from internal speakers to SONY TV, the annoying "popping" noise occurs on my TV's speakers.

Go to Edit > Preferences > General > Import Settings and check the box for error correction, and then try one of the problem CDs again.

A mysterious audio file opens when I open my browser. How do I find and delete it?

The other possibility is that someone with access to your machine (children?, co-worker?) set up all of your browsers to have that audio file set up as a default "home page". This is probably more likely than malware. I just tried with Safari, and it's definitely possible. Check out your Safari preferences and see what it shows as your homepage.

  • Macbook Retina cracking sound when muted

    Hey guys,
I just found that my Macbook Pro with Retina display makes a litle cracking sound when trying to play an alert, even when muted.
Not sure if it's an issue or a normal behaviour.
You can check if yours makes this as well when turn off the sound and make your mac play an alert sound, e.g. go to System preferences and press cmd+j (this is an invalid shortkey that's why it will try to play an alert sound). The cracking sound is not really loud so listen carefully.
Please let me know how it went.
The local AppleStore is really far away from me so I don't want to lose a day for invalid issue, that's why I need your help.
    Thank you!

And as to the Tech guy saying "This is a New Problem", "Never Heard of it Before". That is what they always say even if it has been reported Thousands of times and written about in printed and On Line Mags.
Only after Apple has made a publix ackownledgement of the problem, and plan on trying to fix it (which sometimes they never plan on fixing a problem and never make a public acknowledgement) will the phone techs say "Ok yes we know about it".

  • Mysterious noise when booting MacBook (White)

A friend of mine has one of the white plastic Apple MacBooks. It's having an issue where it sounds like either a fan or something is rubbing or the audio card/speakers are sounding a weird sound like it has some sort of glitch happening.
I can't fully tell where exactly the sound is coming from but it's fairly audible and something you can tell is NOT a normal function of this setup. I have recorded the sound for you to hear. Anyone know what this issue may be? I have seen other threads and youtube videos of Apple Laptop noises but none sound like this one. Any help?
here is the audio clip: http://rapidshare.com/files/446956467/DansComputerSound.mp3

Did they exchange yours? I'm having the same problem...
    Plus:
I just got the Pro, so checked for updates, let them download click to restart, and... the grey installer progress-bar screen before shut-down suddenly quits and the machine shuts down abruptly.
Then it tries to re-start itself, but makes a loud (deep) beep noise, and the white sleep light blinks fast a number of times. It then loses power.
Same thing happens every time I try to start it up. After I leave it for a few minutes, I'm able to start it up. Then I check for the updates, the same two (firmware and Thunderbolt) appear... seems they weren't installed. I try again, same problem. I read around, it might be the RAM, or it might be the HDD, or who knows what...

  • Noise through Speakers when using Firewire 400 port.

Can anyone explain to me why my G4 Powerbook would make squealing noises when I have anything plugged into the Firewire 400 port? It is driving my crazy!!

I'm afraid I can't help, except to say I have the same problem with my FW 400 and 800 ports when I connect a Firewire hard drive. The noise sounds like it's coming from inside the computer itself and it happens even with the audio muted. I wonder if this problem might be related to the Firewire "noise" / "chirp" issue I've seen discussed?

  • Clicks from speakers even when muted

I've noticed that when the sound is muted, I can hear a light click sound from the speakers at times when a sound would have played instead.
For instance, when the sound is NOT muted, and I send a message in Mail, I hear the "fly-by" sound. When the sound IS muted, and I send a message, I hear a small "click" sound instead. This occurs for other sounds as well: sending/receiving IMs, startup sound, etc.
It's not particularly loud, but definitely audible, even on top of other typical office background noise.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, found a way to disable it?
    17in C2D MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I just received my iMac 20 inch this week and noticed the same problem.
Both before AND a few seconds after sound plays there is a click heard in the speakers. I've done a quick search of the mac forums but didn't find anything about it.
Just guessing here, but I am wondering if the mac switches the sound output level completely off when no sound is playing - rather than just leaving it set in the same place all the time. If that is case, maybe there is someway to tell the mac to leave the sound output level on all the time.

  • Noise through speakers when Airport active

    Hi,
I have a strange problem with my new MBP: When I set the Airport netwoork as active, I hear LOUD noises (sort of like a modem sound" through the speakers, this is not affected by the volume control (seeme to be at maximum all the time, very annoying)
All I can do to stop the sound is either turn Airport off or insert a dummy plug in the headphone plug...
Anyone with the same problem or any idea for a solution?
    Thanks

  • Bazaar high-pitched squeal/fuzz noise in iTunes when scrolling.

    System info:
I'm using iTunes 6.1.3 on Windows XP Pro, and I'm wearing headphones (i don't have regular speakers).
    Issue:
I noticed that if I click and hold down the scroll bars in the Library in iTunes (the scrollbars for Genre, Artist, and Album), I hear a faint high-pitched squeal or fuzz noise coming into my headphones. (If I scroll through the songs themselves, I do not get this noise. It's just the three above-mentioned scroll bars). Since it's pretty faint, I only hear it if nothing else on my computer is sending out music or noise (or only if the noise is also very quiet at the time). As far as I recall, I don't remember hearing this in conjunction with any other program.
    Question:
Has anyone ever heard of such an issue? It's not really a big deal, but it does make me rather curious to know what's causing it. Try it on your own computer and let me know if you have the same issue. Could it be a sound card thing? But then why would where I click in one particular program have anything to do with it?
    Example file:
If you'd like to hear what I'm talking about (Since you might be tempted to think I'm making this up), I created a wave file recording of it. (I didn't want any mp3 compression to confuse the matter, so that's why it's a wav. Not that I know much about that sort of thing... but just in case.) I uploaded it to here: http://aranel.alasse.googlepages.com/itunessqueal.wav (Sorry it's so big... 5.3 MB... Obviously because it's a .wav file. It's a little over 30 seconds long. )
    Process of making example file:
I recorded it using Audacity (which is an open source program that can be downloaded from sourceforge.net). In Audacity, I set the recording/input "channel" to be "Wave Out Mix". I turned the Wave out volume and the master volume all the way up, then pushed record. (Turning the Wave volume up caused additional fuzz, so concentrate on the contrast between the sections of the recording to hear the actual sound I'm referring to.) It's a pretty quiet track, so you'll probably have to turn the volume way up.
It's a 30+ second clip. Here's how the seconds break down:
For the first five seconds, I just did nothing.
From seconds five through 10, I clicked and held down the Genre scroll bar in iTunes.
From seconds 10 through 15, I did nothing again.
From seconds 15 through 20, I clicked and held down the Artist scroll bar in iTunes.
From seconds 20 through 25, I did nothing, once again (I kept doing this so you could hear
    the difference).
From seconds 25 through 30, I clicked and held down the Album scroll bar in iTunes. (Notice that this one seems to be slightly higher in pitch than the noise from the previous two scrollings I did.)
The last couple seconds, I did nothing again.
    More weirdness:
Changing the volume on my computer (both the master mix, and the wave out mix, and any other mix that exists (e.g. line, microphone, CD Player, Mono out, etc.)), or even MUTING the volume of any of these mixes does not make the sound go away or change in volume at all! It's always at the same volume no matter what I do. I can only make it go away if I unplug my headphones (remember: I don't have regular speakers. If I did have those, unplugging the headphones might only change where the noise is heard.). Changing the wave out volume only affected the recording (which is why I turned it way up. If I turn the wave out volume all the way down, then push record, I still hear the noise coming from iTunes while I'm recording, but if I play the recording back, the noise is gone.
    Very bazaar...
    Any input anyone?

Called Apple support, they said they do not support the use of iPods in cars, they may have sold you your car kit, but they dont support it. So buyer beware. I have three cars, I upgraded my Nano to 1.1, which is the latest, didnt fix it. I went out and tried it in all three cars, squeals in the Toyota (with Monster Cassette Adapter to Original Radio, hisses in the Nissan (with Audio 3.5 cable to audio jack to after market Sony radio), and works fine in old Mercury (with 3.5 cable to old JVC with audio jack).
So I better take care of the old Mercury.

Ever since I got my Iphone 4s, I have noticed that when I film a video and play it back, it has this buzzing noise and when im in the middle of filming a video and I focus on something, you can hear a click where I have focused when I play it back, is this the microphone? can I fix it myself? or do i have to take my iPhone in to be properly fixed? See this veeeeeeeeeery long thread.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3404857
It's an issue with hundreds of phones.  Some claim it's software related, some hardware, some say it's a mixture of both.
Some people have had temporary success with quitting the Phone.app / restoring as a new phone / restoring from an iCloud backup / disabling Siri / toggling speakerphone on & off...
Unfortunately all of the above only been temporary, with the problem recurring again after a few calls, or a few days etc.
So far the only solution that seems permanent has been to replace the phone.  But even so, it's the luck of the draw to recieve a functional phone, and not another faulty one.
I'm completely annoyed as there is no Apple Store near me...... and Apple haven't even acknowledged the issue, despite the above thread being 34 pages long, as of writing.
