Mysterious Photo Data

So i synced my iphone to my photo library and well it messed up badly, the info all didn't go on and it kept resyncing so i told it to just get rid of all the photos. Then well i ended up with an extra gb+ of photo data and extaa 6gb of other data that i couldnt remove.
So I went ahead and restored my iphone and got rid of the other data, but my photo data now still shows 1.4gb and i have like 40mb of photos on my iphone. any idea how to get rid of this?

figured it out, i found a file browser and in the thumbnail folder there were 3 huge files, if anyone comes across this issue

  • Why do I have mysterious cellular data usage (Verizon) every 6 hours on all 3 of my iphone 5's?

I have recently uncovered mysterious cellular usage on three different iPhones. I am a Verizon customer and discovered this by examining the cellular data use logs. What I found are a long series of mysterious data usage logs. I have visited the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store 3 times now to log notes and discuss the issue. It is being escalated.
    The characterstics are as follows:
All my family phones have the appropriate IOS and hardware updates (verified by the GeniusBar at my local Apple Store).
This is occuring across three phones, which happen to all be iphone 5. Two are 5 and the other a new 5s. We do have one iphone 4 in the family but the issue (so far as I can tell), is not happening on it.
One iphone 5 has IOS 7, the other IOS 6. The new 5s has of course IOS 7.
Mysterious data use happens even while connected to wifi.
Each mysterious data use log entry is exactly 6 hours apart. For example: 2:18 AM, 8:18 AM, 2:18 PM, 8:18 PM, 2:18 AM ... etc. It cycles AM and PM, same times, for a day to many days until some condition causes it to change (evolve).
The times evolve. One day it could be cycling through at one time series, then it changes to another time sequence and continues until the next condition.
The data usage is anywhere from a few K to many MB. The largest I've seen is over 100 MB.
The logs clearly show these usages are not due to human interaction. It is a program.
If cellular connection is used frequently (by the owner), the pattern is hard to pick out. Luckily, my family member is very good about only using wifi whenever possible, so these mysterious use patterns are easy to pick out.
Verizon allows access to 90 days worth of data logs, so I downloaded and analyzed them. This has been happening for at least 90 days. I have found 298 instances of mysterious use out of 500 total connections to cellular. A total of 3.5 GB of mysterious cellular data has been recorded as used in that 90 days by this phone alone. Only .6 GB of the total cellular data use is legitimate, meaning by the person.
This issue is occuring across three different phones. Two are iPhone 5, and the third is a recently purchased iPhone 5s. The 5s I have not touched beyone the basic startup. I have left it alone on a desk for 3 days, and looking at the logs, the mysterious data use in the same pattern is occuring.
So ... I am speaking to both sides, Verizon and Apple to get answers. Verizon puts their wall up at data usage. It doesn't matter how it is being used, you simply need to pay for it. Yes, the evidence I have gathered is getting closer to someting on Verizon's end.
Before pressing in that direction, I am hoping someone reading this may recognize this issue as a possible iPhone 5 issue ... OR ... you, right now, go look at your data usage logs available through your carrier's web account, and see if you can pick out a pattern of mysterious use. Look especially at the early morning instances when you are most likely sleeping.
I am hoping this is a simple issue that has a quick resolution. I'm looking for the "ooohhh, I see that now ..." But I am starting to think this might be much bigger, but the fact is, most customers rarely or never look at their data usage details, much less discover mysterious use patterns.
The final interesting (maybe frightening part) thing about all this is that I discovered while talking to Verizon ... they do not divulge which direction the data is going. This goes for any use, mysterious or legitimate. Is cellular data coming to your phone, or leaving it? Is something pulling data from your phone? We know that it is possible to build malware apps, but the catch with my issue is that it is also happening on a brand new iphone 5s with nothing downloaded to it.
    Thanks for your time

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

  • Is there a way of changing photos' dates all at once?

    Hi,
I imported a number of photos taken within one week into iPhoto - some of them were assigned a wrong date by my camera which made the last photos the first ones in the folder.
I know I can change the photos' dates manually one by one, but is there any workaround to select multiple photos and change their dates simultaniously? I couldn't find any automator action...anybody who knows a hint?
    Thanks

    Hi Terence,
thanks for the reply. It does work. Could have figured it out myself, I guess...but I always marked the photos and then tried to change their dates in this little information box in the lower left corner (which doesn't work).

  • Mac storage filled with "Photo" data, but no photos in iPhoto?

I bought my Macbook Air last May, and I have filled it with around 1000 songs, and I had around 2,500 photos in iPhoto. I checked my storage because I wanted to import more photos to iPhoto, but it would not work. The message, "Can not complete import because there was a problem with a photo" or a message at the top on the iPhoto import tab that was along those lines. So, I checked my storage and it said that I only had around 5 GB left, and on my camera I had 22GB of data. So I bought a external hard drive and moved ALL of my photos over to the hard drive to make space. Now I have 20 photos left in my iPhoto, and I checked my Mac Storage, and it says I still have 30GB of photo data, and 50GB of movie data. 36GB are free out of 121GB when I look at my storage info under "About this Mac" I have cleared iPhoto as well as iMovie. Does anyone have any idea where I can find the files that are taking up all my storage? Thanks for any help!

Again what exactly did you do?
the correct way to move your iPhoto library (you can not move just photos) is
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Why do my photo dates change she Facebook updates an album?

When I click on a FaceBook album in Aperture.  The little clock thing goes around and around then when it is done all the photos in that album have a date of waht the current date/time is.  It makes all them pics out of order when looking ato photos.  I don't want this.  I want the dates to remain the original.  I have no way of knowing waht the original date and time was now!  Very frustrating.

BTW, the title should be Why do my photo date's change when facebbok updates an album?

  • Batch Change Photos' Date - Not Time

Is there a way to change a bunch of photos' date, but not the time?

    Neil:
Not in iPhoto. Unfortunately you've go to change the time as well. If there are not too many of them you can do it this way.
1 - move all that you want to redate to the same date to a new roll.
2 - in the Finder copy the folder in the Original folder that represents the roll with the files to be redated to the desktop.
3 - using an application like PhotoInfo batch change the date to whatever you need. It can just add or subtract a specific number of days, months or years to the date as you see fit.
4 - change the name of the folder and import back into iPhoto.
5 - delete the original roll of photos with the incorrect date.
That's about it. It's not too convoluted and can be done. This way the new date will be embedded in the file and stay with it if needed in a new library or other application.

  • Photo date help.

Hello. I did do a search and found some info on this, but that info was a few years old so i thought id touch base again.
When i upload pics from my camera to i-photo the dates and times the pictures were taken is in the info of each pic. However, when i do as much as drag a photo out of iphoto and onto my desk top, that info is lost. I like to store my pics on a flash drive but when i export/resize the pics from iphoto into my pictures folder in "finder" and then move them to my flash drive, all the time data is gone. No way to save that time info with the pics, huh? If not is there a way to upload pics to my mac mini and bypass iphoto so i dont lose the time info? I really like being able to see the info for each pic and the last 5 batches of pics i had developed dont have the correct times. Thanks, O

    OK
However, when i do as much as drag a photo out of iphoto and onto my desk top, that info is lost.
Probably not - althought exporting is a much better way to get photos out of iPhoto drag and drop does not lose the photos date - that is embeded in the EXIF data within the photo (changes made in iPhoto may not be maintained if you drag and drop - but will be if you export)
If not is there a way to upload pics to my mac mini and bypass iphoto so i dont lose the time info?
iPhoto is not at all required - you can use image capture (in your applications folder) to upload photos, you can use the finder to drag them to disk - you can set your preferences in the iPhoto preferences
However alghough you do not give much information I strongly suspect that you are simply confusing photo dates with file dates - two totally different things - Photo data inculding dates is store within the photo in EXIF and IPTC fields and is viewed using a photo program
Files on the other hand have their own set of data describing the file and this is viewed using a file program and the finder or Windows explorer  --
SO as a wild guess I suspect you are expecting the file date to be the photos date - while there are programs that can do that (google is your friend - here is one that sounds like it might help - not tested or recommended - just found on Google - http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderAttributes/) that is not the norm - the photo data is in the photo and viewed by photo programs - file programs view the file idata and the data of a file is when it was made - not when the data it holds was created - the photo taken in this case)

  • How do I remove the photo dates other than with Sport Removal?

How can I remove the photo dates that appear in yellow from a photo other than using the Spot Removal tool which has not worked?

While I agree that more detail is necessary from the original poster ... maybe even a screen capture
I don't know if this is what the original poster means, but when I have tried to use the Lightroom 5 Enhanced Spot Removal Tool for this purpose, I could never obtain a solution that seemed to remove the offending object and fill in the desired area with a relatively continuous and natural looking result. It always seemed clear to me, when I tried to do this, that the result always had un-natural looking discontinuities in the end result caused by my application of the Enhanced Sport Removal Tool.
And so, in my case, to eliminate the dates from the bottom of my photos, I wound up using different software ... in my case Photoshop Elements, which produced a more satisfactory result.
On the left is the version of the photo created by Photoshop Elements, the date is missing (and at the bottom right, a lamp to illuminate the sign is also missing); while on the right is the image with no attempt to remove the date and lamp. My attempts to reproduce the removal of this date via Lightroom were unsuccessful, the grass never looked natural, the grass always had discontinuities which made the result unsatisfactory, and I did not save the Lightroom attempts to remove the date and lamp. (And if you look carefully on the left, you can see places where the shadows abrupty have disappeared, an artifact of the process, however I still deemed the photo on the left to be successful at the removal of these items, as I don't usually focus on the shadows)

  • Update Photo Date

Just installed Elements 10.  I am scanning old photos into Photoshop.  When I go in and manually upate the photo date (instead of the default scan date), it appears to accept the change.  When I pull the photo up again, the date is altered (e.g., from 1950 to 1949).  If I pull it up yet again, the date chagnes yet again (e.g., from 1950 to 1949 to 1948).

I am having the same problem with Elements 10.  I did not have this problem with previous versions of Photoshop Elements.  I have tried online help, but they were not successful helping me either.  I have tried changing the dates through photoshop Editor as well as in Elements, with no luck.  Also I installed Lightroom 4.1, 64 bit.  I love the program, but changes made there also do not stay with the date I give them. These last photos I scanned now show the date as 1/1/9999.  I will be anxiously awaiting a fix for this problem.  Another problem I am having is that once I have entered the organizer and closed the program, it apparently does not shut down.  If I try entering the organizer again, I must either re-start my computer or first go to task manager and manually close the program there.  I do not have the same problem with Elements Editor.  I can access it multiple times with no problem.

  • Batch change photo dates in Photos for 10.10.3?

If anyone has access to the 10.10.3 beta or has managed to use Photos at all, does it still allow you to batch change photo dates like iPhoto used to? Thanks!

Interesting. I would have thought that the moratorium lifted on press releases and reviews of Photos by a number of tech websites would have applied here as well. I had a little look at the Terms of Use on this website and didn't see any prohibitions on speaking about upcoming products, but perhaps I've missed something. Are those participating in the Developer Preview disallowed from speaking about Photos if major press outlets are not?
Apple does not and cannot control major press outlets.
However, they do control their own products and beta releases are subject to an NDA.

  • Changed photo dates--how to fix

I bought a Mac and transferred all files. Now all of the photo dates have been changed to the date I transferred the files! Some of them shot on an actual camera came out OK, but almost all of them that had originally be shot on a cellphone had the dates changed.
Any ideas on how to correct or has Mac just screwed me. I can't backtrack all the dates.

Details help - what version of iPhoto - of the OS?
In any case the Mac has not "screwed" you - obviously for the photos that were properly formed everything is ok -
Some of them shot on an actual camera came out OK,
iPhoto (like all capable photo managers) gets the dates from the EXIF data put into the photo by the camera and if the phone is properly storing photo by the phone
You can correct dates using the Batch change date time command if the EXIF data is nonexistent and using the adjust change date/time command if the EXIF data is wrong (like a camera being set incorrectly)

  • Where is the actual iPhoto photos data stored?

I'm trying to find the data files for iPhoto in OS X Lion, data used to be in the user Library, but I can't find that either. Where is the actual iPhoto photos data stored?

    1. Set the preferences to edit in another program, Photoshop. (Advanced Tab)
    2. Drag the image to the email message (the problem you describe should be fixed in 10.8.3)
    3. Select all the images in the event or album and show the Info pane.
    4. You have to export them first in order to compress, so either drag them out of iPhoto into the destination or use the Export command.
    5. Clunky? Works pretty great for me.
    6. I can access all of my photos right there in iPhoto. I can access other people's photos there, too.
If you don't want iPhoto to organize the files, tell it not to. Prefs, Advanced, Copy Items into the iPhoto Library.
If you didn't want someone to comment on this,
Seriously?  It is rediculous that we needed a forum to find our own files.
Then why did you post it?
Are you an Apple OS designer and are offended or something? Why are you even looking at this post if it's not an issue for you?
Look up the thread a ways.

  • Upload pictures and retain adjusted photo date

After scanning a number of old photos, I upload them onto my MAC PC and I adjusted the photo date and time via the batch change function. I then exported the photos from iPhoto and transferred them onto another Mac PC and upload them into iPhoto on that PC. The photos did not retain the modified date on the upload, but rather show the date on which they were scanned.
Is there any way to transfer photos between iPhoto libraries (on different PCs) and maintain the adjusted date and time of the photo?

    Unfortunately no.
This data is recorded in the Exif metadata that is created when a Camera takes a photo. However, scanners so not create Exif and so there is nowhere for this data to be written to. Therefore, applications that can't access the Exif use the Date Created info from the file.
You may be able to change the Date Created info on the File using an app like
    http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderAttributes/
but beware: don't run this in files already in iPhoto, only before importing or after export.

  • How do I extract original photo date when importing photos?

    Hi,
I am trying to import photos from a backup CD of pictures that I created in August. However, when I import them into iPhoto, the date that gets associated with the photo is the August date of the CD creation instead of the original photo date.
I can see the original date of the photo image file, and I want that to be the date that iPhoto uses to organize the photos.
Is there any preference I can set to extract the date information from the image data itself and NOT from the date stamp on the CD file?
    Thanks!

Please don't take the following as a flame...
<quote>The move option is grayed out when importing from a card to save you from yourself. At least that's what I've always assumed.</quote>
That's a bit draconian don't you think? Why have the option greyed out if you don't want the user to be able to do this. It's kind of like saying hahah, this is possible to do, but, you, the user, are a moron. Why even place the option on the page in the first place.
<quote>It just happens to be a bug that few on this forum care to see fixed because most of us feel that using it is unwise due to the danger of lost images and corrupted cards.</quote>
Again, why put it on page as an option if it weren't intended to be enabled in a plist somewhere for those who wish to be 'unwise.'
My logic is as follows: If Apple provides software that is more accessible to the 'unwashed masses' (because it's included with Leopard ie. Image Capture) and it deletes images directly from the camera, then why would a professional package (Aperture) limit the so called 'professional' from designing and using his/her own workflow governed by their own experience. Which could include first a backup to dvd or other device of your choice (keyword here: CHOICE) THEN import images and delete directly from the camera. Logically this is completely BACKWARDS, the app available to the 'masses'(Image Capture) should NOT let the user delete images directly from the camera and the 'professional' app (Aperture) should allow more flexibility for the advanced user who understands the implications of his/her work flow and adjusts accordingly.
Besides, And I quote myself "I have searched the forums here and have only seen people offer advice why this is not good. Not to be an A##, but I don't want advice. I need an answer to my question. How do I enable this functionality?"
Therefore, respectfully, your answer is: non sequitur.

What you will see in the two possible info overlays can be customized in View/View Options (Ctrl-J). In there you can set Loupe Info 1 and Loupe Info 2. Pressing "I" several times cycles through Loupe Info 1, Loupe Info 2 and no overlay.
