Mysterious square

I'm building a shopping cart for a gallery site. I hadn't
even worked on it for a week, but when I checked it yesterday,
there was a strange problem. When you click directly on the
datagrid a mysterious green square appears. The square doesn't
inherit the transform of the data grid, but it does inherit the
alpha value. The really strange thing is that it only happens when
I post the files online. There is no problem when testing locally.
I've talked to tech support and they were stumped.... Can anyone
help? (please don't try to purchase anything, the site is far from
finished)
the data grid comes up when you press add to cart or show
cart

Thanks for helping Rothock. I messed around with focus
manager and eventually just disabled tabbing, but the square
remains. While I haven't found a way to completely get rid of the
square, I have found a way around the problem.
I guess the data grid didn't like being scaled for some
reason. The square was the outline of the data grid at 100 scale, I
had it at 130. I reset the scale to 100 and the square still
appears, but is now on the outline and is not so distracting.

  • Weird square in Mavericks

    Hi everyone!
    Since I've installed OS X Mavericks in my MBP - laptop, sometimes I notice "weird square" on my screen. I dont think that my laptop's screen is broken because example when I noticed the square in Safari's address bar and moved it the square moving with it, and when I quit Safari, the mystery square disappeared and then i opened Safari again and the square didn't show anymore. That is happened about nine times after Mavericks and when I have Mountain Lion, there wasn't nothing squares like now.
    I took a screen shot today when the mystery square came to Safari:

    Can anybody help me with that?

    Hello Yarno90,
    Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the box on your display of your MacBook Pro.  I would be concerned about this too.
    I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with displays.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to an external display.  I recommend reviewing the full article, but this step specifically stands out to me:
    Reset the system
    You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    You can find the full article here:

  • Headset- earphones supplied with x6 too short!

    I must be missing something, the headset (earphones) supplied with my X6 are absurdly short.  If I want to listen to music I have to hold the phone next to my head.  Any further away and the wire will pull out of my ears it is that short.  In comparison to my ipod earphones (which aren't exactly long) the nokia ones are a 3rd the length.  I also have some little square clip on player.  The manual makes absolutely no reference to this so I can only assume it is a bluetooth player, though I don't know whether this needs batteries, or where the on button is for that matter.  For something that is marketed as a music phone Nokia have done a fine job in making this the least practical mp3 player ever created.  Can someone please explain to me why the headset is so short that it is redundant and what this mystery square device is.  Says on the back ModelBH-214.
    The very fact I have had to sign in to this forum sums up how poor Nokia devices are.

    Thanks for the reply.  My x6 is the 16GB model on o2.  Are you sure they are all meant to be sent with the WH-500 earphones as these look too big to even fit in the box.
    Please see attached the the ones I got; (EDIT; OH NO I CANT DO THIS AS THE PICTURE TAKEN WITH MY X6 "does not have a valid extension for an attachment" HATE THIS PHONE!)
    Also I have a new problem- this being the bluetooth headset.  I turn it on, the blue light flashes but my X6 will not find it (nor will any other of my phones).  How can I connect it with my phone.  I'm gobsmacked at how ignorant and careless Nokia have been with this phone and package, its meant to be a music player.

  • IMac won't boot, cursor has strange block of 'text'

    My iMac crashed during simple timeline editing in Final Cut Pro X. Upon reboot, it would get stuck at the grey apple logo screen. It would boot in safe mode, but the cursor has a mysterious square of 'text' following it around. All hardware tests indicate no problems.
    A friend who has worked on Macs for years suggested that it was a fried graphics card and that the whole logic board needed to be replaced. I ordered a logic board that claimed to be fully tested, replaced it myself, and reassembled the machine. To my shock and amazement the same exact problem presented itself: won't boot past the apple logo, and a square of 'text' is following the cursor around.
    I also reinstalled OSX 10.8.3 to no avail.
    Any suggestions for diagnostics or potential fixes would be greatly appreciated. I'm nearing my wits' end.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Weird square box mysteriously appears

    Occasionally after editing a photo in ACR and opening it in Photoshop CS4, a square box appears in the photo, as if I selected a small square area and darkened it using curves. Any thoughts about how to prevent this or how to get rid of the box if it happens? I am using a Mac Pro tower with the latest OS 10.6 (although I remember it happening once using OS 10.4) and the most updated version of CS4. Thanks!!

    This is a very strange problem. Sounds to me like some sort of graphics card glitch more than anything else.
    Is Camera RAW  genuinely rendering a square selection darker than the surrounding pixels? when you move the image around your monitor, and measure the pixels with the eyedropper is this still apparent?
    Since its most likely to be what I suggested above - try turning Open GL on and off in Preferences.

  • Mystery white square at launch

    Hi,
    I'm not a web designer and am very new to Golive and anything web-based. I've just taught myself how to edit the existing website in our company which uses Adobe flash and golive. It's all good and up and running, but there's one last thing that I can't figure out.  Here's the website:  www.formartarchitects.co.uk
    You'll notice that when you open it, just before the homepage comes up, a large white square flashes up. I realise this may have something to do with the index.html in golive - but as I didn't set the site up and have just tinkered with what was already set up by someone else - I'm unsure what to do.
    Does this look like an obvious issue that someone could explain to me how to fix? Please bear in mind that technical lingo may be lost on me...!
    Thanks so much for your help.

    You are welcome, ioyome.
    I believe it is better to leave it white because it sets the frame and focusses the attention.
    Actually, before anything appears, it says Loading, but that may be too brief to notcie, depending on the loading time. You may try to open it elsewhere with faster/slower connexions and see how it works before deciding anything.
    And if you do need to change something you should also ask in the relevant Flash forum (see the different ones under Forums).

  • Square script mystery

    Greetings!
    Photoshop CS5, iMac June 2010 ,8 GB Ram, OS 10.7
    Have a script, which takes any image and makes it square by comparing the height and width. Trouble is, I can run this on single images without problem, but when I try to put it in a batch the prefernces panel comes up on Units and Rulers, and does so for every single image. If I try to cancel the script it give me an error message about line 2.
    Here's the script (ExtendScript Toolkit CS5):
    var savedRuler= app.preferences.rulerUnits;
    app.preferences.rulerUnits = Units.PIXELS;
    var w = app.activeDocument.width;
    var h = app.activeDocument.height;
    if(w>h) app.activeDocument.resizeCanvas (w, w, AnchorPosition.MIDDLECENTER);
    if(w<h) app.activeDocument.resizeCanvas (h, h, AnchorPosition.MIDDLECENTER);
    //if w==h already square
    app.preferences.rulerUnits = savedRuler;
    When I tried to remove the first two lines the script stops and opens the Canvas Size dialog box, once again for each image.
    I'd liek to get this to work in a batch. Can anyone give some advice on this?
    Thanks ahead of time!

    You also need the first two lines or you need to retrieve the ruler units to make sure your if statements will do what you want. For if ruler units is set to  percent width will always be 100% and height will always be 100%  w will = y and the document may or may not be square. If the document contains a background layer you may also want to set the color its added canvas will be.

  • Mysterious black or white squares appear

    Sometimes when editing a black or white square will appear over the image on the display.  It stays on the image and I can't get rid of it.  It is not saved and my image displays normally when I reopen the file.
    I haven't figured out what causes this, but it only happens after I edit something or move the frame on the screen.  It is intermittent.  Next time it happens I'll grab a screen shot.
    Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Carl

  • MacBook Pro power adapters dying, keys frying, mysterious heat problem

    I've got a very frustrating and mysterious major situation going on with my MBPro. I'm living in Peru in the jungle. I've got a basic electric hookup that's caused no problems for the few electrical devices I've got: small dorm-size fridge, a lightbulb, speaker system, iPhone, iPod, and, until recently a MacBook I had borrowed temporarily from a friend here. I recently visited the states and returned with my MacBook Pro which I need for work down here. Thusly my troubles began.
    I noticed pretty quickly the power adapter got super hot, could easily fry an egg on it sometimes. One night I unplugged the Magsafe adapter from the MBP for safekeeping, slept, and in the a.m., the adapter (unplugged from the Mac but still plugged into the wall outlet) was terribly hot. Does this make any sense? It gets stranger & worse...
    I used the Mac later that day and within a couple hours two of the keyboard keys stopped working for good (I was later able to remap these keys using a 3rd party program). The next day the Magsafe adapter stopped working. Certainly heat had something to do with it, despite the fact that MagSafes have built-in safeguards whereby they (should) shut down temporarily if overheated. But this sucker was dead.
    A friend from the states visited me 3 weeks later and brought two more adapters ordered from Amazon.com, each a different generic brand that had good customer reviews.
    The first, which looks just like a MagSafe, worked fine but died in a week. Again, it would get superhot not even plugged into the MBP (like the other one). I should note the MBP also was always hot to super hot. Also the large plastic square power hub of the adapter, even after it died, would get hot if plugged in, it just wouldn't power the Mac.
    The other (3rd) adapter worked for awhile, and its rectangular power bar hub would only get a little hot. But the Mac would still get insanely hot, as did the very top of the adapter plug - the part with the teeth that go into the MBP. Within 2 weeks, the adapter wouldn't work unless I applied pressure on it against the Mac. Then it stopped working even with pressure applied.
    Here's where it gets even stranger:
    What I noticed was that the two outermost of the five teeth on the plug had been somehow pushed further in, such that they couldn't make contact with the MBP (I guess the pressure I was manually applying helped this for awhile until the teeth sank even much further in). How and why in the world did this happen?
    Desperate, I brought the two adapters to an electrician, and had him combine the good teeth end piece from the previous generic Magsafe with the adapter whose teeth caved in. Viola, it worked...but just for three days. Amazingly the two outer teeth of the new hybrid plug ALSO retreated and couldn't make contact. Furthermore, I noticed some dried plastic juice gunk around them and concluded that the heat of the connection to the Mac was somehow mysteriously melting the glue around these teeth and also causing them to push further into the adapter more. I know: sounds almost impossible. But this is what happened, TWICE.
    Obviously there is an overall problem here, one which concerns heat, among whatever else. It's hot here in the jungle. While my other appliances have had no problem, I've certainly noticed the fridge and speaker subwoofer system run hot. But the electricity reading is normal, and I have a current regulator stabilizing the electrical flow. And the previous MacBook (not Pro) had no problems. And yes the fans on the MBP work. And in general the electricity here works fine to run people's electronics, including some very large freezer units and plasma TVs.
    I'm at a loss as to what to do and to how to identify the problem beyond "heat". If I don't get the MBP working normally I can, in effect, no longer be here as it's essential to my work. Therefore any help would be most awesome and greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Oglethorpe,
    I do have a current regulator or "stabilazador" here. The LED changes often from green (normal) to yellow (low). I don't understand why it indicates these changes in voltage if it's its job to stabilize them anyway. But anyway I bought it on suggestion amidst this crisis but it hasn't helped none, and even it gets hot sometimes, even when nothings plugged into it.
    These generic adapters I bought both had a plethora of rather detailed good reviews (and a few bad) that seemed beyond the ambitions of counterfeiters.
    In any case, I'm pretty sure the adopters are not at issue within my problem here. I'm starting to really think the electrical hookup is at fault, but thanks much for your input.

  • Stupid transition bug... black square appears

    Hello
    I am not very experienced with flash at all... but I wanted to make a nice slide show swf file to go on a CD of images I am creating for someone. I figured out how to put them all in layers, do motion tweening on each after they'd been converted to symbols, brought the color>alpha to zero at frame one and brought it up or down at the right times to fade in and then out.
    beautiful...
    except it only works on the stage. I can press play and it looks great... but if I test movie or test scene, or even if I export the movie, it doesn't work at all.
    As soon as the slides begin a mysterious black square appears. It seems to have something to do with the actual fading in or out. It's not a layer that wasn't set at alpha= 0... I checked and double checked them all. I can't see anything amiss.
    I checked the tutorials I could find and nothing seems to be missing and yet, it isn't working so something must be wrong or done incorrectly. I don't understand why I can only see it on testing and not during playback

    Same situation here. A workaround is to edit the photo change the filter, save the picture. Now the picture shows up normaly. Do you call the camera app from the lock screen or the home screen?
    If I start the camera app from the home screen he problem doesn't appear.

  • PS CS2 adjustment layers icons mystery

    I've noticed something with Photoshop CS2 that is making me wonder. It's nothing that really matters, but I can't figure out why it happens. When I create an adjustment layer(s), sometimes I get an icon in the layers palette that is visually depictive of the adjustment layer, and sometimes I get a generic icon (circle that's half white and half black) in the layers palette. In any particular image the layers icon(s) is either depictive or generic; but not both. Any ideas?
    Mac G5 Quad. 6.5Gb ram, OS 10.4.11
    Peter

    Ramón, the inconsistency happens within the same size that I've chosen for my palette.
    Ed is right. Mystery solved. Thanks to both of you.
    In the layers palette, the height of the layers spaces is determined by the image in the beginning, with a slight difference, allowing for a vertical or horizontal image. The spaces remain constant after that. The icons are a constant size and square, determined by the layers palette options. So if I have a short horizontal image, there isn't enough space for the square icon that depicts the adjustment so I get the generic icon. If I increase the height of the original image, or make it a square or a vertical, there is more height to the space, and then enough room for the proper icon.

  • Round vs square power adaptor iBook G3 500

    Just bought a g3 500 ibook as a travel / backup / disposable / whatever, works fine but it came with the round power adaptor & I already have a number of square ones lying around. The light in the top of the power plug doesn't change color but apart from that, the square ones seem to work. Any danger here?
    (mysteriously ebough, the battery from the old G3 ibook I bought this one to replace seems to have crawled out of the grave and is now holding a substantial charge -- weird.)

    However, that adapter ring should change color from amber to green once the battery is charged, regardless of the model of G3 (Dual USB) iBook.
    Congratulations on what seems to be a great deal!

  • What is this mysterious start-up screen?

    I came in to work last week and found my computer already turned on and a mysterious screen showing on the monitor. The screen was white, there was a horizontal black rectangle in the center, with a smaller white square centered in the black rectangle, and the international "no" symbol (circle with diagonal line) centered in the white square.
    The computer didn't "wake up" or change in any way when I moved the mouse. There were no funny noises. The computer wouldn't restart with any keyboard combination, so I finally just held down the power button until it switched off. I waited about 15 seconds, restarted, and the machine started up completely normally. It has acted perfectly normal ever since.
    This is a link to my reproduction of what the screen looked like:

    Does anyone have any idea what this is? Is my system getting ready to die?

  • Help Flash mystery

    Hi,
    I have developed a website. www.lindensteellp.com
    On the index page there is a logo, If you roll over the
    squares of the logo you can see 3 links, about, projects and
    contact. If you click on projects or contact it goes to the
    corresponding page. Now go back to the home page and just click the
    main part of the logo. It goes to the about page. I designed it
    this way in case a view does not realize that the links are in the
    squares. Now for the PROBLEM. Once you have clicked on the main
    logo to go to the about page, go BACK to the home page and try to
    use the contact and projects links again in the squares. Now they
    go to the about page for some reason... This is a mystery to me.
    Can anyone help me???
    Thanks so much!

    I just tried it on FireFox 3.0.7, IE 7.0.5730.13, Google
    Chrome, and Safari 3.2.1 for PC and it was working for me.
    This is what I did:
    Navigated to all your pages from the initial page (using the
    boxes in the logo); once on those pages I used to link in the logo
    to go back to the initial page and then clicked on the project and
    contact links, and I was taken to the corresponding pages. So it
    seems to work except for the links on the project page.

  • Fast Inverse Square Root

    I expect no replies to this thread - because there are no
    answers, but I want to raise awareness of a faculty of other
    languages that is missing in Flash that would really help 3D and
    games to be built in Flash.
    Below is an optimisation of the Quake 3 inverse square root
    hack. What does it do? Well in games and 3D we use a lot of vector
    math and that involves calculating normals. To calculate a normal
    you divide a vector's parameters by it's length, the length you
    obtain by pythagoras theorem. But of course division is slow - if
    only there was a way we could get 1.0/Math.sqrt so we could just
    multiply the vector and speed it up.
    Which is what the code below does in Java / Processing. It
    runs at the same speed as Math.sqrt, but for not having to divide,
    that's still a massive speed increase.
    But we can't do this in Flash because there isn't a way to
    convert a Number/float into its integer-bits representation. Please
    could everyone whinge at Adobe about this and give us access to a
    very powerful tool. Even the guys working on Papervision are having
    trouble with this issue.

    that's just an implementation of newton's method for finding
    the zeros of a differentiable function. for a given x whose inverse
    sq rt you want to find, the function is:
    f(y) = 1/(y*y) - x;
    1. you can find the positive zero of f using newton's method.
    2. you only need to consider values of x between 1 and 10
    because you can rewrite x = 10^^E * m, where 1<=m<10.
    3. the inverseRt(x) = 10^^(-E/2) * inverseRt(m)
    4. you don't have to divide E by 2. you can use bitwise shift
    to the right by 1.
    5. you don't have to multiply 10^^(-E/2) by inverseRt(m): you
    can use a decimal shift of inverseRt(m);
    6. your left to find the positive zero of f(y) = 1/(y*y) - m,
    1<=m<10.
    and at this point i realized what, i believe, is a much
    faster way to find inverse roots: use a look-up table.
    you only need a table of inverse roots for numbers m,
    1<m<=10.
    for a given x = 10^^E*m = 10^^(e/2) *10^^(E-e/2)*m, where e
    is the largest even integer less than or equal to E (if E is
    positive, e is the greatest even integer less than or equal to E,
    if E is negative), you need to look-up, at most, two inverse roots,
    perform one multiplication and one decimal shift:
    inverseRt(x) = 10^^(-e) * inverseRt(10) *inverseRt(m), if
    E-e/2 = 1 and
    inverseRt(x) = 10^^(-e) * inverseRt(m), if E-e/2 = 0.
