Mysterious Trackpad shortcut zooms in entire display at once (all apps)

A few times a day, I'll press something that zooms in the entire display of my MBP for all apps, and I can't undo it. This makes it impossible to view an entire window at once. I found a workaround for it -- by going into system preferences/universal access, i turn the "Zoom" function on then off, but i was wondering if anyone knew what exact feature i am accidentally activating? Thanks! M

  • Entire Display Zoomed in - not result of [command +]

    Hi!
Earlier today, I somehow zoomed in my computer screen. Similar to pushing [command
+], but the entire display, not just text, is larger. I have to scroll to get to my dock, internet settings and top bar. I have tried restarting and even popping out my battery. The log in screen is of normal size, but as soon as I enter my account, my background picture is normally sized for half a second, then it zooms in on the center, and then the entire display has become too large for the screen. I have to click and drag around to see anything. Any suggestions?
    Thank You!

    Awesome. Thanks for the update.
Have you also doubled checked to make sure Zoom was turned off from under the Seeing tab of the *Universal Access* pane of *System Preferences* as well?
The keyboard short cut will be either Option-Command-8 or *fn Command-F11*. Any help there?

  • Upon opening a thumbnail to view full size image, it often spontaneously zooms to only display bottom left quarter of image.

When double-clicking on the thumbnail image of an iPhoto album, the full size image will often spontaneously zoom to only display the bottom left quarter of the entire photo when it displays in full size. I can easily work around this by clicking on the right arrow to go to the next full size image (which will display properly) and then click on the left arrow to go back to the initial affected image (which will also then display properly). It does not do this when full-sizing all images from their thumbnails - probably less than 10% of the time; but still often enough to be a pian. I cannot find anything in the preferences which would appear to cause or correct it.
It is a recent problem. I have been using iPhoto extensively for many years without any problems. I cannot recall for sure, but it may have started after my update to version 9.4.2.
Using an iMac with plenty of RAM, latest version of iPhoto 11 and Mountain Lion version 10.8.2.

What is the format of the PS photos and are there any alpha channels in them? You might try to re-edit them with PS, making some insignificant change and then saving.  See if the new edit will display properly.  Are you saving as jpgs with the Baseline format?
I may be preaching to the choir here but this may be of interest:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Trackpad based "zoom" problem

    Hi all,
Okay then, I am new to the buttonless MBP, and I have a habit of resting my thumb on the trackpad while my index finger does its thing. For the most part, this is not an issue, however, I randomly cause the frontmost application (including the Finder) to zoom in or zoom out the contents of the window or desktop. This is NOT the screen zoom, this is strictly a zoom of the contents of whatever is frontmost.
(i.e., in Safari, the text zooms, in the desktop the Icons get larger, etc).
I have checked all available preferences in an effort to turn off this functionality, but have come up blank.
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi all,
This isn't the same thing as the universal access zoom. The UAZoom actually zooms the entire desktop and windows. This problem just zooms the contents of whatever is frontmost. That said, the zoom does NOT include the menu bar, window header, dock, etc... just the items.
Although I have seen the problem with a few different two-finger touches.. the best way (and fairly consistent) to reproduce the problem is as follows....
    1) Index finger placed at 11 o-clock on the top of the TrackPad. Finger should feel the ridge at the top of the TP.
    2) Thumb placed at 6 o-clock on the bottom of the TP. (Thumb is kind of laying on its side on the TP)
    3) Keeping the index finger completely still, slowly swipe the thumb up the TP. If nothing happens, slide the thumb slowly back down again. The thumb travels only about 1 inch maximum.
I made a movie of the problem, you can find it at....
    http://web.me.com/mabou2/Site/Zoom.html
The problem has a random nature to it, which you will see in the video. But usually once I hit the right feel on the trackpad, I can repeat the zoom in and out, as you will see in the video.
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Use Trackpad to zoom in and out - Too sensitive in Safari 4

Hi, I just installed Safari 4 three days ago. Without changing any settings, now I found out that when I use trackpad to zoom in/out the font, it responses too sensitive than it did in previous Safari. It jumps up/down at least two levels every time I try to adjust the font size. It is not that controllable anymore.
Has anyone else noticed this? How do I fix this? Thanks!

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro. The zoom feature is way too sensitive for my liking, however, there is no way at the moment to control it. As this is a Beta version, these oddities will occur. Hopefully, when Safari 4 is released in final version (no date yet announced) this problem will be fixed.
As I previously did, let Apple know what you are experiencing with the trackpad via the Safari Menu>Report Bugs to Apple. If you want to go back to Safari 3, use the Uninstaller that's included in the Safari 4 Downloads package. This is the only safe way to go back to Safari 3.

  • Photoshop shortcuts dont work. Displaying ⌘≠. Why?

Suddently today my Photoshop shortcut commands do not work. They all say ⌘≠ next to them. The quick keys for the tool palette work, but the commands do not. I tried restarting the computer and resetting photoshop settings. I looked in Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts and saw no preferences for turning them off. I looked in keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences and saw nothing. What did I do?

Got an OS you’d like to let people know about?
What is displaye in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts?
Could you please post a screenshot to illustrate the issue?
Have you properly trashed the prefs (by pressing command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift while starting Photoshop until the appropriate dialog appears)?

  • Keyboard shortcut to turn off display

I just bought BT keyboard. Could you please advise, what is the shortcut to turn off display? there is no break button on it. I suppose, there should be some alternative.

Try Shift+control and the Eject key in the upper right of your keyboard.

  • Calendar display issues for "All Day Events" coming from Exchange Server

My problem is with the display of All Day events. I'm running a 3gs, Outlook 2007 on winxp, connected to a Exchange 2007 server. When an all day event is put in for multiple days the phone calendar displays it as starting at midnight going to midnight, and sometimes wont display the event on the list view on the phone. I can correct the display by editing it on the phone and making it all day there, but then the category I assigned the event in outlook goes away in outlook. All day single day events work just fine. Any suggestions?

    Sort of same issue:
All day events scheduled from Entourage display incorrectly on iPhone/iPad as non-all-day events (which block out entire day/multiple days)
All day events scheduled from iPhone/iPad show up correctly in Entourage as all-day events, but incorrectly with an *extra day* added.

  • View entire library at once

In iTunes 7 we seem to have lost the ability to see our entire library at once. It's divided into categories but we can't list everything at once. This means that I can't see what's been most recently added unless I select each category one at a time. Also I can't tell what the total number of GB of my library is and therefore how much of my iPod it will fill.
Apple, please let us select the entire library to see everything at once!

To make sure you've removed a problem file from your iPod, first create a smart playlist of hidden files. Assuming you have only one playlist named "Music" (the default, undeletable playlist appearing just below your iPod), create this smart playlist with just one rule: Playlist is not Music. The playlist will propagate with any hidden files. You can then select the file and press option-delete to globally delete it, not just remove it from the playlist [credit Peter S. for explaining this keyboard shortcut].
Note: This is a one-shot, not-too-sagacious smart playlist that breaks each time you unplug your iPod.

  • Trying to sharpen an entire album at once + Ratings have disappeared

I'm trying to sharpen an entire album at once (just to apply the basic Edge sharpening values, as all my RAW files look pretty soft, but I don't want to sharpen each individually).
I've followed the instructions here: http://chuqui.typepad.com/imagingreality/usingaperture/index.html
and while it works okay, it leaves me with a problem that it creates a new sharpened Version of each image, which sits underneath the Master. So in each Stack, the unsharpened master is the Pick and not the sharpened version.
Obviously, I don't want to go through each image and select the version to be the pick.
Is there something I'm missing here? Is there an easy way to set the versions to be the Picks and not the masters, or is my workflow just plain wrong?
On an even more newbie-ish note, in the grid view browser, thumbnails are no longer displayed with their ratings, so I can't filter out higer rated images. I expect that there's an easy way to bring this back, but I've searched the manual without success.
Thanks for any help from a confused newbie.

Aperture never promotes a version to the stack pick automatically. IMO this should be a preference setting (and I'd set it to Promote Adjusted Version).
so, after stamping all your images, and any other adjustments, you'll need to troll through and promote.
The fastest way I found is to use the keyboard ..... no, you can't lift/stamp or batch change. ARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!
    OK, here's what I did/do:
Reduce thumbnails in the project viewer to a reasonably small size (sufficient so you can determine the master filename from the version name).
Press "V" to remove the selected image from being viewed.
From the menu, Stacks, Expand all stacks
    Click the first image.
Press <Apple> and left square parenthesis (promote).
    Right arrow, right arrow,
Press <Apple> and left square parenthesis (promote).

  • Display gone irremediably all white (or gray)!

Suddenly my display has gone all white (or light gray). I have tried reseting the PRAM, NVRAM, startup with R key. At startup, my 1Ghz PowerBook will show an all light gray/white LCD, flicker once after 10 secondes and remain light gray or white. The brightness adjustment still works and so does the external video connection (DVI). If I startup the PowerBook lid open with an external display, I can see that Mac OS X has detected my LCD as I can "see" and place it in the Display preferences.
Could it be that the LCD inverter board failed?
Thanks for any help on the failure (other than returning it to Apple as it is out of warranty and I'm not ready to shell USD800 or so to replace the entire LCD).

    PowerBook 17 1Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I have something similar happening. I found that it starts by flickering and then after a minute or two, the whole screen goes white. Sometimes I can fix it by moving the screen to a new position, but quite often I have to put it to sleep and wake it up. That doesn't always work either.
I took it in for repair. They took it apart and put it together, and then couldn't reproduce it. Well, its been almost 2 weeks and the flickering started reappearing. The repair guy said that if it comes back, the only thing they could think to do was replace the LCD.

  • I have a file where I store my download music. When I click on "add music" to my ipod my music file opens, but rather than have to drag one song at a time to my ipod, how do I copy the entire file at once to my ipod. - steve

Hi - I have a file where I store my downloaded music. When I plug in my ipod and click on "add music" my file appears. Rather than drag one song at a time, how can I download the entire list at once? - steve

I am not doing it in ITunes, but i did down load the song from ITunes.  I loaded the song on to my Nano, but in my menu selections it doesn't show the song or the artist in any search format.  However, when i plug in my nano to my PC I see the Nano library on my PC drive listings and that song and artist are there.  I can click on the song and it will play in Windows media on my work PC.  I did notice that the format for most all the songs in my library on my Nano are MPEG - 4 audio Files.
    Thanks for your help, Mel
