Mysterious triangle left ot POP account name, emails missing in Inbox

I got a problem with the Mail inbox of a POP account. There is a number, that shows the count of unread emails, however the pane that displays the list of emails is blank. However to the left of th account name is a triangle, as if there were folders underneath it. Clicking it changes only its direction however there are no additional folders and the pane to the right remains blank.
The new incoming emails are correctly retrieved from the POP server, I can find them in the Finder (~/Library/Mail/(account name)/INBOX.mbox/messages) and I can click each of them in Mail. Why are they not shown in the list of messages in Mail?
However the indicated number of unread messages is much larger than the number of emails I can find in INBOX.mbox. I know the missing messages are somewhere on my harddisk but I can not find them anymore!
I have already rebuilt my mailboxes by deleting the Envelope Index file, however the "hidden" emails did not re-appear and the mysterious triangle appeared again!
How can I get rid of the mysterious triangle, make the mails in the INbox again visible and how can I find the missing messages indicated in the counter?

I am using the Backup application of Mac (version for Tiger) and I am regularly backing up the whole user.
I think, I will now proceed as follows:
1) Make a clone of my HD to my external drive (what program do you recommend for this, in order that there is no risk for overwriting?)
2) Migrate the user to the iMac of my friend, using Migration Assistant
3a) If this brings back my lost email, I would get a new HD and Tiger installed on my Powerbook and move the user back
3b) If the migration does not solve the problem, I would try to repair the way you proposed before and migrate the user to Leopard after the repair.
I have forwarded my email now to another account and for this reason I do not have to hurry. I prefer to take my time, in order not to loose my missing emails.
Do you agree with the way forward I have sketched above?

  • How can I make my email POP account delete emails?

I use a POP email account. Every time I refresh my email, it brings back all the emails I just deleted.  very frustrating
I set the Advanced settings to Remove...After one day, UseSSL...OFF, Delete from server...When removed from Inbox, Server Port...110,S/MIME...OFF.
Why there is no Remove...Immediately is beyond me.
When I delete emails I want to delete them totally.  Email is one of the main reasons I got an iPad.  Constantly downloading the same emails you deleted extremely limits the usefulness of the iPad2.
    Is there a fix?
Why doesn't the iPad provide the same functionality for POP accounts as it does for IMAP accounts?

When I am in mail, I now click back through the navigation boxes on the top left of the screen.  If I am in an email there is a block at the top left of the screen titled "All Inboxes" (43).  The number changes.  click "All Inboxes"  The email list for "All Inboxes" slides in from the left.  Click the navigation arrow titled "Mailboxes" on the top left of the email list.  The "Mailboxes" list slides in to replace "All Inboxes".  The list shows "Inboxes" and "Accounts".  I click the account where I want to delete messages.  I click the "Trash" basket.  The "Trash" bin slides onto the screen.  I click the "Edit" block in the upper right corner.  I select the red "Delete All" in the lower left.  This is a little bit of work.  It currently prevents the emails from constantly coming back to my inboxes.
My ISP mail provider also appeared to update their system.  I checked their website for directions on using an iPad.  Their suggestions helped.

  • Using iOS 8.1, can I still use pop account for email instead of imap

UUsing iOS 8.1 on iPhone 4. Can I still use pop account for my email instead of IMAP. Don't like all my email on mail server

MMy biggest problem is both iPhone and iPad when I set up email account uses IMAP automatically. So I really have no choice. Since IMAP doesnot allow downloading email to device, I have to leave all restates on mail server. This really concerns me.

  • Archived POP account and email is gone

I archived a bunch of emails in a netzero account (POP) and now I can't find them. I was assuming that an "archive" folder would appear somewhere. It did not. When I tried it in my gmail account, it worked fine, but no luck with the netzero account.
If it's supposed to be on netzero's servers, that is of little use to me, as I have that set up to delete messages after they download to my computer. I did check; they are not on netzero's server either.
Any thoughts or help? Is there an undo? Should I be looking for the archive folder in finder, or should it appear in my mail someplace?
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, at moment there is no way to create a folder in a POP account. I know, bummer. I hope they add it at sometime.
Best way to store on phone for long term is to forward it to yourself thus it gets put in SENT items (which is fully stored on phone as opposed to just headers). It is how I keep some documents (like my resume) ready to send at any time.

  • My Tumblr primary account name is missing in the Tumblr dashboard.

Firefox is not displaying my Tumblr primary account name in the dashboard (located on the top portion), but will only appear once I used the private browsing option, or use internet explorer.

    Now:
    Dashboard FYeahwxc''
It's makes switching from my primary account to my secondary blog which is Fyeahwxc tedious. =(
I've already checked and cleared the entire cookies/caches, even though I had set my firefox to delete these as soon I closed the browser. The problem started on Sept 2, a few hours before that I managed to use my account without any trouble.
It would be easier if I used other browsers, but I loved Firefox and been using it since. Hope someone could help, already contacted Tumblr support, but I just find out the error is only isolated in my Firefox browser.
    Thanks.

  • 2 Pop Accounts - getting duplicates in my inbox?

Hey everyone. I'm really hoping you can help me with this...
I have 2 POP accounts setup on my Mac Mail app. If I receive am email to account #1, a duplicate is sent to my #2 account.
    They're completely different POP accounts....
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

    Zack,
Are these two accounts on different POP3 mail servers, or the same one?
Do you have any Rules written, and active?

  • Emails missing from inbox on iphone

I have a good number of emails missing from the inbox on my iphone. My only email is gmail. The emails are random, not from any particular person or place. The messages are in the inbox on my imac and also when I access gmail account on my pc. They are simply missing on the iphone. If I access my gmail account on the pc and star one of the messages, then it does appear on my iphone in the starred folder. Remove the star and it's gone (still doesn't show up in inbox). I just noticed this yesterday because I was looking for something, so don't really know how long it has been like this. I have looked at iphone settings for mail but don't see anything to give me a clue why this is happening.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

There are two things you can try.
    1. Move the file com.apple.mail.plist from your ~user/Library/Preferences folder to the desktop and relaunch Mail. If that's cured the problem, delete the Preferences file you moved to the desktop, otherwise move it back again overwriting the new one Mail just created.
    2. Try reinstalling Mail from your Install DVD - this only reinstalls the app itself not the mailboxes, but take a backup of them first, just to be on the safe side.

  • My IPhone 6 sometimes puts back into my comcast (POP) account old email messages that were previously deleted. Any way to prevent this from happening?

MY Iphone6 sometimes brings back previously deleted email messages. I am using a comcast (POP) email account. Any thoughts how to resolve this issue?

Thanks for the reply, but no, I've experienced POP Lock before and this is not it.
To illustrate my problem, currently the inbox of the account in question has seven (7) emails in it, followed by a message that says "Load 18 More Messages... 18 messages total, 12 unread." I have the mail program set to show 50 of the most recent messages. Clicking the message does nothing.

  • Account name / email invalid

Hi. Having an issue signing in. It won't accept the email address I used to register. I can print from my to web enabled printer just fine. But I can't login. Is there an account reminder feature somewhere? Any help?

    Hello,
It may be that you have a SnapFish.com account. Alot of long time customers of HP have SnapFish.com accounts and do not realize it. One of the printer software releases signed customers up automatically, and most people did not know, or forgot, because they never used it. Try going to SnapFish.com and using the forgot password link at the log in screen there. Once you have the password reset, go to ePrintCenter.com and use the SnapFish.com log in information to log in. If that does not help you may need to contact SnapFish.com directly to have them delete the account, or use a different email to register with. Another fix that I have come across is actually recreating a SnapFish.com account, if SnapFish says no account exists, or no email comes, when you try and reset your password there.

  • Missing messages from POP account

    Greetings.
All the mesages from my POP account folders are missing/invisible (Inbox, Sent, Trash). The messages exist in the ~/Library/Mail folder, and at the top of the Mail application window states "Inbox (0 messages, 50 unread)".
I've tried all the fixes that David Gimeno Gost has suggested in this forum to other users experiencing similar problems, (e.g., rebuilding the index, reimporting the mailboxes, converting to from elmx mbox and importing, reinstalling the Mail application) all to no avail.
    Any advice much appreciated.
    David

    Hello David.
Some of the "fixes" you seem to have already tried might or might not be appropriate for your problem, and it could very well be that you've made things worse. In particular, what did you do to reinstall Mail? I rarely recommend doing that. Did you also reinstall the Combo Update afterwards?
Verify/repair your disk first (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Now, in the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. With that folder open, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post, to let me see the names of the files and folders present at the root level of the Mail folder.
Before actually posting that information, you may edit it so that the file/folder names do not reveal any details you wish to keep private, e.g. you may replace any real username with "username" if you wish; similarly, you may disguise any domain names you don't want to be revealed. Try to be consistent in how you disguise those details, though, as we may need to refer to them in subsequent posts.
Finally, locate the account folders within ~/Library/Mail/ -- their name begins with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. For each account folder, repeat the process to let me see the names of the files and folders it contains.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • How can I convert a POP account to IMAP

I have a POP account in the form [email protected], and I have just changed my hosting company from one that handles POP accounts only to one where accounts can be either POP or IMAP. The question is: how do I convert my existing POP account to IMAP? My main reason for wanting to do that is to keep the "Sent" folder synchronized so that Mail's sent item folder automatically gets stuff I send through web mail just like it does with my Dot Mac account.
I tried removing the existing POP account; this causes any email associated with this account that has not been moved to an "On my Mac" folder to vanish. When I create an IMAP account, these mails don't reappear, even though the email address is the same. Recreating the POP account, though, brings these emails back to life.
Of course, I can have both account definitions with the POP one having it's "include when automatically checking for new mail" checkbox unchecked, but that's really inelegant. Is there a way to convert the POP account into an IMAP account?

If the Inbox for this account only is revealed, is there any triangle beside it?
Ah, yes, I see! Silly me to be looking for Sent mail under "Sent"! Indeed, there's a disclosure triangle next to the account name under "Inbox", and wen you open it, it shows Drafts, Sent, spam, and Trash. The sent items are indeed there.
Mind you, my Dot Mac accounts show up normally, i.e., their sent mail goes under "Sent". Wish all IMAP accounts did that. It sure isn't logical to show sent mail inside an inbox...
But to answer your question: In addition to having the "Sent" folder for the account under "Inbox", I also have a folder for the account under "Sent". This folder disappears when I check the box to store messages on the server. There were emails in it (the ones I placed there myself). I have now moved those emails to the sent sub-folder under the account under "Inbox". Even with the "store on server" option UNchecked, the emails were instantly duplicated to the server, so that they were present both locally and remotely. I then checked the "store on server box"; this made the mailbox for the account under "Sent" vanish.
To summarize: things appear to work normally now, except that I find it very inconvenient to have to look in two separate "Sent" folders to find emails I've written.

  • Deleted POP account - lost Inbox & Sent mail

I was unable to set up a new POP Account in Mail (my email service was moved to a new host) without deleting the existing POP Account, because the new account had to have the same username. When I did that and created a new Account the emails in my Inbox and Sent folders were gone. Mail in other folders was fine. Is there any way to recover the original Inbox and Sent emails?

    You're welcome.
If the incoming mail server address remains the same with the new host, did the account's user name change?
An account's user name and password is what checks the incoming mail server for new messages. An account's user name is usually the portion of your email address in front of the @ sign only but with some providers it is your entire email address.
The outgoing mail server has nothing to do with and has no bearing on creating an email account with Mail or with any email client.
When creating an account with Mail, an account named folder is created within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account. The outgoing or SMTP server has nothing to do with this, is not stored in the same location and although Mail's connection test with the outgoing mail server or SMTP server may fail when creating the account, it does not or should not prevent you from creating the account and adjusting the SMTP server settings afterwards.
You can add a number of additional SMTP servers to Mail or delete an SMTP server from Mail after creating an email account which has no bearing on an email account's set up. You can have multiple SMTP servers to choose from - one used to send messages with an account when connected to the internet via your ISP at home and another when connected to the internet via a different ISP at work or elsewhere.
Based on the information you provided so far, there was no reason to delete the old account from Mail. You may not recall seeing the error message but it was provided. You select OK in the error message box to delete the account which informs you all account setup information and locally stored mailboxes for the account will also be deleted when doing so.
FileSalvage will pull up all deleted data that is still available for recovery - located on an area of the hard drive that has not be over-written with other data after the previous data stored in the same location was selected for deletion.
You will look for mailboxes (folders with an .mbox extension) and/or .emix files with each individual .emix file representing a single message that was stored in a mailbox.

  • "3 Songs" Next to Account Name

I just noticed a box with the words "3 Songs" in it just to the left of my account name in the upper right corner of the iTunes Store window.
If I'm not mistaken, this is where the unspent $ balance of a Gift Card would show up.
Does anyone know what this is? Do I have a 3 song credit?
    Matt

I figured out that I have a 3 song credit.
The only mystery is where they came from. I did send in feedback a while ago about a song I purchased that I though might be defective.
Maybe the 3 free songs is my compensation.

  • How can I find my account name for signing in to the sync option

I have a sync now button, but, no set up sync key, so I can't get the digits to sync to my new laptop. When I attempt on my new laptop and press the I don't have the other device key, it asks for information including my Account. I don't know where to find that name. I have the password and recovery key; just need to find the name of the Account.

You can only use pair a device if you have already setup Sync on another device because that is how pairing works: both devices need to be online and one device needs to be connected to the Sync server.<br />
The device that you want to add gives a 3x4 character pairing code that you need to enter on the device that has already Sync set up and that is currently connected to the Sync server (so you need to have both devices at hand).<br />
Then the Sync server uses this pairing code to connect to the second device and passes the name and password and Sync key from the first device that has Sync set up to that second device that you want to add.
Enter all details like the account name (email address) and password and the 26-character Sync key manually to connect to an existing sync account instead of using the 12-character code to pair a device if pairing isn't possible.
    # open "Firefox > Set Up Sync..." or "Tools > Options > Sync > Set Up Firefox Sync"
    # click "I Have an Account"
That brings you to the "Pair a Device" window that shows a 12-character code that you can enter on another device that has Sync set up.
If that isn't possible then click "I don't have the device with me" at the bottom to enter the account settings (email, password, sync key) manually.
