Mystery Audio added to question slide

I am working in Captivate 4.
Whilst creating a series of question slides I came across a problem whereby one or two of the question slides would not move on after the correct answering of the question.
Turns out that the slides that would not advance had somehow got a short audio file attached (see under Slide 10 bottom left in screenshot).
Luckily I spotted this quickly, otherwise I could have been spending hours trying to resolve this.
I have not added any audio to any of my question slides so wonder;
a. What caused the small audio to attach itself to the slide ?
b. Is this a known problem with Captivate 4 or others ?
c. Do I have a problem with my version of Captivate ?

To do something like this in Captivate 5 you're probably going to need to create something in AS3, e.g. a Static Widget that does something similar to what you accomplished before in AS2.
If you already know AS2 then learning AS3 shouldn't be all that difficult for you.  There are plenty of resources on the web.

  • Audio clips on question slides?

I am new to captivate and so far, I love it.  However, I am working on a drill and practice tutorial in Captivate 5 and need to add audio clips to my questions slides.
I have tried adding a roll over text as was suggested in an earlier thread, however, when I play the project, the audio doesn't play.  My audio clips are about 1-3 seconds long and I need them to be repeatable (not just once as the slide opens).
I haven't had any trouble with the audio on the regular slides, just on the question slides.  This is a quiz and I would like to use the random questions feature so it (the quiz) doesn't become predictable. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks so much!

Looping the audio on a question slide might not be the best strategy unless you are using this for some gentle background music that you wanted to play while the learner was answering the question.
For instructional voiceover, the rollover caption would be the better choice.  There are two parts to a rollover object.  The rollover area is the hit area that your mouse must roll over.  Audio attached to this part will play once when the slide loads.  So it's a good choice if all you want to do is tell the learner where to find more info. E.g. "Roll your mouse over the Info button if you don't know what to do."
The other part of a rollover object is the caption or image that will appear when the mouse is rolled over the rollover area.  Audio attached to this part will play each and every time the mouse event occurs.  This is the best choice for adding audio if you think the learner may need to hear the instructions more than once but you want to leave them in control of when they hear it.
As soon as they roll the mouse off the rollover area, any audio attached to the caption or image will cease to play.

  • Adding several questions on the same slide

Hello everybody! I'm an EFL teacher (English as a Foreign Language) and I'm looking forward to adding more than one question on the same slide. The type of question would be a multiple choice, but I don't want them to be spread on different slides, since students are meant to take a listening quiz, so sliding back and forth results some trouble when answering and focusing on the track. Besides, I also need to know how to add an audio track, but have it played just three times and then stop it. Is there any script or so to do it?
Defintely, I couldn't go anywhere to find answers to my issues,
    Ron

Captivate's default quiz questions only allow you to have one question per slide.
Since you cannot really scroll a Captivate slide as you can a web page, there isn't usually enough room on a slide for more than one question anyway.
You may need to revise your approach to accommodate the limitations of this format.
The easiest way to add an audio track is to have it added at the slide level so that when the slide loads the audio plays.  Repeat the same audio three times as part of the same clip.
However, you can also play audio by adding it to the On Success caption of an interactive object (button, shape button, or click box) or alternatively you could trigger the audio to play when the object is clicked by executing an Advanced Action > Play Audio File.  If you set the object to have infinite attempts and add the action as a Standard Action instead of just via the Actions in the Properties tab, then you should be able to execute the action multiple times without progressing the timeline.  If you want to prevent the audio from being executed more than three times, then you'll need to start getting into using Conditional Advanced Actions and tracking variables.  More complexity.

  • Bug in adding Question slides?

Firstly, thank to those who replied to my previous rant... restarting solved that problem.
Current rant: I think there's a bug in the Adding Question slides... but maybe it's me.
    Here's the scenario:
I have a Master slide that says "MCQ, T/F, FIB, Sequence" so I think it's the master for the T/F slide.
When I go to Question Slide…, and add 1 T/F slide, it produces a new slide with the correct look from the Master slide.
BUT if I to to Question Slide… and add 2 or more T/F slides, the slides it produces look pretty much like the Master slide (and it says the name of the master slide in the Properties panel), but it's got things wrong with it... the Question X of Y is in the wrong place (the opposite corner, actually), and the "Correct/Incorrect/You must answer" boxes are one below the other... totally different than what's on the Master slide.
I also have issues with the GIFT import... Tryiing to import 10 T/F questions, I swear that the file is UTF-8 perfect, but it's telling me it's the wrong syntax. Why is this so hard?
    Thank you for the assistance.
    Ben

Thanks for the good suggestion Tony. Luckily I only do a limited number of these and they involve maybe five graphics at a time. I reckon the time it would take to import, apply the motion then export from Motion into FCP would be uneconomic.
I have done more tests and it definately only happens in DV timelines when copying scale motion keyframes from one image to another.
One solution is to manually copy the keyframes which is admittedly a little tedious. The other is to lower the motion filtering to fast which, as far as I can tell doesn't affect the quality to a noticeable extent.
I would say it's a bug unless anyone else can tell me where I'm going wrong?

  • Audio on Question Slide

    Hi,
I am building a program where the participant listens to a
conversation and then has to answer questions about what he/she
heard. I would like to add a button to the question slide called
"hear it again" where they would click on it (or rollover) to hear
the audio track again. In a regular slide I would add a Button but
that option is blanked out on the question slide. Anything else
such as a caption, automatically plays the sound track.
Help! Anyone have any ideas about this?
    Thanx in advance!
    Gary

    Hi again
No, you aren't doing anything wrong. That's the way rollover
Images and Captions work. They don't display until your user mouses
over the rollover area. You asked for something that could be
clicked or rolled over to hear the audio track. Since clickable
items are a no no in Question slides, the rollover is your best
    bet.
Note that you don't need any Image or Caption to actually
appear if you don't want that. Just use an image that's a solid
color and set it as transparent. Or, for a caption, set the caption
as transparent with no actual text. The key is assigning the audio
to the Image or Caption itself and not the rollover area.

  • Adding variables to match question slides

    Hi All,
I am using Captivate 7 and need your help/idea/expertise on this. I am trying the following:
Adding a drag and drop slide wherein I should be able to drop the source to any target.
If the drop happens on the correct option (this is the challenge, how can I define the correct answer!), a message should flash saying "You are right"
If even a single drop goes wrong, then I the right answers should flash, (this I can create a new slide though)
But to set such conditions what should I exactly do? Please help.
    Thanks,
    Roja

The title of your question is bit confusing. Why should you have to add variables to match question slides?
The content of your question is totally different: each D&D slide can act as a question slide. It doesn't really have all the features of a question slide but most of them: Reporting, Score (only black/white, not partial score/penalty), Attempts, Actions On Success/Failure. When it is configured as a question its score will be reset when the user 'Retakes' a quiz with multiple attempts on quiz level etc. Progress quiz indicator will not be included however. And defining the correct answers is a breeze with the wizard or with the button Correct Answers.
The best part about D&D are IMO the 'Object actions': you can specify an advanced action for each drag&drop act and that is what you need. Do not use a simple action, because it will release the play head. That action can show a feedback text/object that was previously hidden, it can apply an effect to an object like flashing, etc. This blog post was written for CP8, but can help maybe:

  • Captiave 2 - Adding Buttons to Question Slides

I need to use the Captivate Question Slide "maker" to create
interactive questions with navigation back to the "Jeopardy-esque"
main page. When doing so, the question slide maker prevents adding
    buttons/navigation, etc.
    Any work arounds, hints, suggestions?
    Thanks...

Hi Beta Bob and welcome to our community
As you have seen, you cannot insert interactive objects
(Buttons, Click Boxes or Text Entry Boxes) on Question slides.
The only workaround I can think of is to sort of simulate the
question slide using these objects on a standard slide.

  • Question Slide Audio

I have a question slide that has audio to recite the question and then audio for the correct and incorrect explanations. However, if the user hits submit prior to the question audio finishing, the two tracks play over one another. How do I stop this?

  • Background colours disappear when question slide added in C4

I recently updgraded to Captivate 4. Since the upgrade I have encountered this problem. I am importing slides from power point. Some of the slides have a blue background. When I add a question slide in C4, the blue background does not show up when I Preview in web browser or Publish the file. The blue background is still there if I don't add any question slides. Any ideas on what is going on and how to prevent my blue backgrounds from disappearing?

Sorry... I was in the process of doing it yesterday, but here's what I did.
I have two versions of Captivate in my laptop, Captivate 3 & 5.
    1. I opened Captivate 3 and started a project
    2. Create a question pool in Captivate 3
    3. I inserted a powerpoint slide with my gif animation in the slide
NOTE: If you want your gif to loop continuously, you must make sure you pause the project in Captivate before the end of the slide.  It will not work if you extend the slide duration.
    4. After importing the ppt slide with looping gif animation in captivate 3, I copied the slide (make sure you're not copying the invisible click box) and pasted it on top of each question in the pool.
    5. Go to your timeline and send the slide to the background if necessary.
    6. Line up/design your question slides.
    7. Save and close the project.
    8. Find the project and open with > Captivate 5
Your question pool should retain the animation.
I am working on creating a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" game.  I've seen it done before, but it always looks amateur.  I wanted to do something more polished, with nicer graphics, appropriate sound effects and good transition slides.  The gif animation is of two moving spotlights on the background of every question screen.  I'd be happy to share a sample if I knew where to upload it to.

  • Can I modify a question slide to include more than 5 qs in same slide

    Hey everyone.
I'd like to know If I can modify a question slide to include more than one question in the same slide.
I'd like to include a slide with audio and some video in the left page and on the right page I'd like to include a q slide that can have more than one question to pertain to the input in the left page. But I wouldnt want to dupicate the left page.I'd like to include one page with input and the other page (right) with questions ( fill in the blank, multiple choice etc) just one slide of course.
I don't want to fill up the project with a bunch of question slides. The purpose of the activity is for the participant to listen to the input only once and start getting quizzed ( extracting detailed info, forecasting etc etc)
    Thanks

Please take a look at the screenshots,
you can see how I have selected to execute the following advanced action on the submi tbutton howver there are a number of things going wrong and I doubt it's cause of the syntax as I've done ertythig as instructed!
I'm executing the actions once the Submit button is clicked.
I've placed the actions in the same "file" TF1 -TF5.
After TF5 I've placed the show to shoe the results ...
    QUESTION:
This action was created seperateley cause it's  a standard action and autmatically sent me elsewhere, not the same file... ???
    Is that right?
I'm not getting a slide to show the feedback.
    Why?
    Timeline in question...???

  • Question Slide Buttons

I have an assessment that I created that uses a combines
question slides with interactive slides. I would like all of the
slides to uniform. The question slides were automatically created
with buttons to Back, Skip and Submit. These slides also added a
review area and a text box with question 1 of 15. I would like to
add these items to the interactive slides, but the program does not
allow these items to be copied. Can these items be added to a slide
not created as a question slide? If so, how is this done?

    Hi Carol
Taking your questions one by one:
-- You can change the standard quiz question buttons (Clear,
Back, Next, and Submit) by double-clicking them and changing the
button settings. This enables you, for example, to change them to
Image buttons (as in Rick's demo).
-- You can't remove the navigation (defined on the Options
tab in the Question properties dialog) from the Success and Failure
captions -- it is built in
-- You can't add your own custom navigation buttons to quiz
questions using buttons or click boxes -- these options are greyed
out on question slides -- so you have to make use of the regular
    quiz question buttons
-- The difference between the Skip (sometimes labelled Next)
button and the Submit button is that it navigates directly to the
next slide without submitting an answer to the current slide. When
the button is labelled Next, users often click this button in error
without realizing that they have failed to submit their selection
    as an answer.
-- I'm afraid I have no experience of the blue asterisks
resulting from the hot spot Quiz slides. I'd be interested in what
others have to say about this issue.
    Best regards,
    -Matthew

  • Button issues on Question slide

    Hi there
I have a simple quiz in my project which the users can skip
if they want to. I want the users can go Back from the question
slide. The back button works for the first time taking to the
previous slide(not a question slide). But when i again want to come
from the slide to question slide the Next button which i have added
stops working. Strangely if i dont have a question slide the Next
button works fine for simple slides.

    Thanks ravi
but i dont want any report for the quiz. It is a small
project for which i have inserted 2 question slides. Just want
users to try if they want to and if they press the correct option
they move on and even incorrect they move on...nothing to do with
    scoring or reporting.

  • Is there a way to make drag and drop slides behave like question slides?

I created a drag and drop interaction that I want to include in an assessment with other quiz questions. I am having two problems
    1. The submit and reset buttons do not display for the full 3.0s duration of the slide. Once the user clicks submit, the feedback caption displays and the buttons disappear.
    2. The slide auto advances to the next question. I want the slide pause until the user "clicks anywhere to continue."
Does anyone know a work around to get a drag and drop slide to mimic question slide behavior?
    Thanks!

    Hi Itzelm, KurryKid,
The HTML5 trackers doesn't tell you every feature that is not supported, sorry. It will never tell you that a lot of Effects are not supported either. There is an 'incomplete' list of supported features in the Help documentation. Here is my list (bit rough, no nice layout, sorry)
    Supported effects in HTML5
    Entrance- Fly-in (all)  - Ease-in (all)Exit  - Fly-out (all)  - Ease-out (all)Motion Path  - Left-to-Right  - Left-to-Right Ease  - Pentagon  - Rectangle  - Right-to-left ease
      - Right-to-left3point  - RightToLeft  - Triangle  - ZigZag
Audio objects (audio attached to invisible objects)
If project is paused, audio attached to object that is made visible will not play in HTML whereas it does in SWF
    No rollovers (caption, image, slidelet)
    Questions:
No Likert, FIB, Short Answer, Matching
    No question pools, random questions
    No right-click, double click
No Text animations, no SWF animations(animated GIF possible)
    No Slide transitions
    No borders

  • Touble adding music to slide shows

Having real trouble adding music to slide shows.
Files are MP3 where is says compresser decompressor (Codec) error
CD music files are not recognised
Have elements 8 but loaded a trial of elements 12 and same result
Can load music in premier as a project but not in photoshop / organiser
Cannot save project as a DVD which you can do in photoshop elements 8
Can anyone give advice - spent hours if not days trying things out.

Try the free Audacity software (Google it) and convert the .MP3 files to .WAV files. .WAV are uncompressed and most Adobe products can handle them natively without the need for external codecs.

  • Possible to add a hyperlink on a T/F question slide?

    Greetings,
I'm delivering a Captivate 5.0 course in Adobe Connect Pro which is recording completion on the last slide through a True/False question slide (a one-question "Quiz").
However, I want to add a hyperlink to the Correct Caption that appears after the user submits the answer. (I'd also like the Captivate course to close upon clicking the hyperlink, but I'll settle for just the hyperlink actually going somewhere.)
I see that the hotspot, button, & slidelet tools are disabled on this question slide.
I've looked for widgets or some way to run javascript, but I haven't found anything.
What am I missing? How can I add a hyperlink to a question slide?
    Thanks in advance,
    Cheryl

    Hi Cheryl
Normally adding a Hyperlink is simple. You insert a Click Box and link it to the URL. But as you likely have discovered, you cannot insert a Click Box on a Question slide.
So what options do you have?
Well, you could visit Lilybiri's blog and learn how to build your own Question slide using basic tools and Advanced actions in Captivate. At that point the slide is just like any other and you may then insert the Click Box object and link to the URL.
Or you could create a single slide Captivate project that is sized really small and contains nothing but a Click Box that carries out the action of linking to the URL. Then publish that as a SWF. You would then be able to insert the SWF into the Question slide. I'm not sure how well that will actually work in action, but I've done it before without issue. Like anything, your own mileage will probably vary.
    Cheers... Rick
