Hi! I'm having problems trying my new game, mystery case files 7, to run in my Lenovo netbook S10-2. There is a dialog box saying that they have a problem with my display settings so they can't run the program in my current OS. Is there a way for me to fix this so that I can play the game in my netbook? Thanks.

I can not get a .jar file to run on XP SP3 start/run/cmd/
Please help if can figure this out. I'm convinced it is a Windows XP SP3 problem from searching on google and seeing other ppl on XP SP3 with same problem (but no working solution for myself). I'll try to be complete-listing all I've done.

So then I do these cmds which produce the exact same error/reply just above; Unable to load..:

So then I copy soht.properties to C root and do:
java -jar soht-client-0.6.2.jar -client C:\soht.properties <same error as above
Then from other information I have read I right click on the .jar file, select open with Always open with:

Try again.. same problem.
Then I do cmd:

does nothing, retry the other commands same thing (either nothing or those same replies)
Then I read (http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5384879) someone had the same problem as I and they solved it by uninstalling all Java/reboot/ then install JDK 6 Update 14 with NetBeans 6.5.1 start NetBeans and then it worked for them.
So I unistalled all Java, rebooted and gave the cmd another try (before re-installing), now a new error, of course:
C:\062>java -jar soht-client-0.6.2.jar
'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Then I install Java SE and NetBeans Cobundle (JDK 6u14 and NB 6.5.1) Final Release/ reboot/ open Netbeans/
go to test java page; all is good, run cmds again -and still nothing..
C:\062>java -version
java version "1.6.0_14"

Taggert77_: I have never used NetBeans. I only installed it in the bundle as I had read on another post that somehow installing the bundle magically helped another user with the same problem (he didn't know why it worked after that either).
Before XP SP3 I was able to execute .jar file through cmd prompt. Now I am not.

The proper cmd is simply: java -jar soht-client-0.6.2.jar
I did give your cmd a try, and it produced nothing :( (just like the other correct cmds)

How to get info from a .class file at run time? thanks for help

I need to get methods and properties (variables) from a .class file at run time.
as u know, javap.exe can do that in an independent way. but i need to get info at run time once the .class or packeges have been changed, javap is not suitable in the case.
i try to read data directly from .class file but it's hard to know the file format.
e.g. a class looks like (java file):

String s0;
public String getName()
if the file is compiled to .class file, how to get properties (variables: i0,s0) and methods String getName() from the .class file by an applicaton at run time?
Doclet is not suitable for speed reason, it is too slow to get right info in right format.

Modifying property file at run time

Hi all..
I have been using properties file for handling few configurations in my project.
whenever i need a change in the file, i had to change it in corresponding file, create a jar file and then introspect it into project and then publish the project.
Is there any other way of achieving it.... can we modify the property file at run time just like we do for JSP pages...
Or any other better way of doing this.. pls suggest..

write a java class that reads a property file from the external path. make the jar file non-versionable in case you need to update that later. if you are on J2ee container all you need to do it drop the file @ domain root and u shd be good to go.

Install instructions for CS6 upgrade for WIndows missing - in what order should files be run?

After over 14 days of dealing with the idiots at Adobe Support, opening and closing of 2 cases multiple times, promised emails not being sent (and being blamed for having my email set up to filter out Adobe emails), attempts to charge me for the already approved "free" upgrade, and then having an order for a physical disk version of the CS6 upgrade cancelled by some bonehead, I finally was able to download the CS6 upgrade files. Only to discover that there are no installation instructions for Windows if you did not use the Akamai download manager (which I did not).
There are a total of 6 files in the download directory, all downloaded from the CS6 upgrade download page.
- In what order should the files be run? Just run the .exe files, or do some files need to be extracted/unzipped first?
A second question: my CS5.5 version was never installed, and never registered.
- Will the CS6 upgrade accept its serial number directly, or do I have to do something else through Adobe Support?

How to make Applescript open AI then open file then run ExtendScript then close?

Here's the sample Applescript code I came up with using the scripting guide/reference for CS6 and also doing some online searches:

I just want to open the app (sample here for AI but also nice to do same for Photoshop), open a file, then run ExtendScript file against it, then close after processing. With this sample script, all that works is the app launches. No file opened, no script ran, app doesn't close at end. I see no errors pop up nor anything show up in command prompt.
The sample ExtendScript just triggers an alert popup message for testing
Also to note, the Applescript snippet is executed from Python but I believe where/how it's executed shouldn't matter (except maybe where the error messages might show up). Although in worse case, I'll debug/run through the AppleScript editor.

No, I don't have specific documentation, but you can put together such for Python from bits & pieces here & there. And yes, I made it cross-platform to anticipate Adobe users on both Mac & PC, for which there currently are, though for what we're doing skews towards Windows for now.
For the COM API, follow the VBScript reference and code samples. Just convert the method calls to Python COM. There will be slight syntax differences sometimes (e.g. add "()" to method call for VBScritp subroutines that don't need them, etc.). The scripting guide link below should have code samples for VBScript.

for the rest of the the cross-platform support, it's just generic python to parse command line arguments, etc. You may want to query what platform the script is running under using some standard Python modules (os, system). [solved] writing systemd service file to run script

i have completely migrated to systemd. now, i am trying to write a service file to run a startup script (~/.startup.sh). one of the functions of the script is to set the brightness of the screen:

i created /etc/systemd/system/startup.service:

but i get the following error:
Failed to issue method call: Unit startup.service failed to load: Invalid argument. See system logs and 'systemctl status startup.service' for details.
i have two questions:
1. what am i missing?
2. how can i avoid permission issues associated with modifying the brightness file (e.g., permission denied errors, the need to put in the password, etc.)?

but i went ahead and created the file /etc/tmpfiles.d/backlight.conf:
w /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness - - - - 95
and that worked.
is there a reason for recommending using a tmpfile rather than a service?
in any case, i'm marking this as solved.

I downloaded 4.0 when prompted, but it did not open upon completion and now shortcut does not work and cannot find file to run 4.0 in the firefox folder. Tried restarts and reinstalling 3.6 which now also won't work for me. Ideas?

I downloaded 4.0 when prompted yesterday. Seemed to download normally but did not automatically start following download even though that option was checked. The shortcut now is broken and efforts to fix it fail because the file cannot be found. Checked the firefox folder and do not see a file to run firefox. Tried restarting twice with no luck. Then tried multiple times to reinstall 4.0 with no success. Then tried uninstalling and reinstalling 3.6 with same result.

OK. Got it figured out. Disabled my virus scanning software and the download worked perfectly. Should have thought of that before now.

How can I change the report file name depending on which seq file is run in the main seq?

I'm using TestStand 3.0.
I have a main sequence file with a menu option to select one of several sequence files to run.
How can I get TestStand to change report file name to the selected sequence file rather than the main sequence file name?

This may be because I only had it incorporate the applet, and there ARE other classes, but I really don't know any html and I wouldn't know how to include those. Also, I don't know if it's an issue, but I don't think it's very plausible to have the applet both display things (my program has a GUI of sorts) and have the main method at the same time, given my program structure.
What can I do? Are there other ways besides creating an html document to run an applet? Is there a way I could include my other classes if that's the problem? I'd really like for it to be able to run in an internet browser- otherwise, my program probably won't reach as many people.

Batch/Powershell file wont run via Task Scheduler

I'm having trouble getting my Powershell file to run from Task Schedule during logoff. In short, I'm trying to upload my NTUSER.DAT (roaming profile) to my profiles folder on the file server. Dynamic VLAN switching does not support roaming profiles thus

I have a task schedule to run as Domain Admin when event ID 4647 occurs (logoff). It is set to run with the Highest Privileges checked, also I have enabled to run weather the user is logged in or no. The Domain Admin account also has access to ever file,
both at source and destination. Set-ExecutionPolicy is set to unrestricted. The way I call the powershell script in Task Scheduler is:
Action: Start a program
Program/Script: C:\temp\launch.bat
The launch.bat contains the following:
Powershell.exe -executionpolicy unrestricted -File "CALL C:\temp\powershell.ps1"
The task is triggered each time when the user logs off, I have confirmed this in the logs. But the NTUSER.DAT file fails to copy over to the network, in fact the log.txt file isn't even generated. I have confirmed my code to work, it's just the task scheduler
part calling the code where I think it fails.
Can you guys point me in the right direction here? I know I'm close, but not sure what I'm missing.

Yes in my testing the task schedule is unreliable, I don't have any info on how long the profile is locked, thus I can't copy the profile to the server when the OS still has it locked.
What do you propose I change my vlan configuration to?

What you are trying to do cannot be done. That is why it is not being done. If you set up roaming profiles and redirected folders this would happen automatically. It would also happen very quickly. THat is because Windows posts cahnges
to teh roamed image as they happen. Only changes are copied. Items in teh registry which are only valid during logon (Dynamic Entries) are nver copied so updates that are not needed are not posted. It is these updates thaat can keep the registry
locked for a very long time.
If you scan your network you will likely find hives thaat are loaded with no one logged in. WIndows 7 and later have a utility that forces and unload after a few minutes. It posts the reson for the forced unload to the event log.
As for the VLAN it is likely not configured correctly. THe profile must be on a server that is available on the same net ID as the PC. YOu may also have to allow the switch to suspend if you are using per-user conenctions. Contact the VLAN
vendor and tell them about issues with Roamed profiles. THey will walk you through the setup. THe most common issue is thaat the switch specifies 1Gb and the server is set to 100Mb and the switch is not set to match the speed. THisis a simplpe
configuration error done by a tech who does not have much experience with VLANs. THey tend to think that setting everything to 1Gb or some other maximum will work but it won't. It can also be caused by a files server with a 1Gb card that is a pront
spooler spooling to a 100 or 10Mb older printer. This disrupts the card and the VLAN cannot attach to it until the spooler is dona nd the card can switch. It can also be caused by a bad card or a bad switch.
Then VLAN vendors techs are usually very good at troubleshooting this kind of issue. Remote VLAN logging and diagnostics can also pick out the issue.

How to schedule the Batch file to run from task scheduler

Hello Everyone,
I have a batch file which kills the wscript.exe process, I am doing this manually, I need to schedule this batch file to run from task scheduler whenever the process wscript.exe reaches to specific numbers, i.e if the wscript.exe process count in task
manager reaches to 30, the task schedular should execute this batch file,
Is there a way to do so.

As I know, it will not help you to achieve this target via Scheduled Task. When configure Scheduled Task, there
seems no Trigger option that help you specify this condition (process counts reaches to specific numbers) to trigger the batch file.
You could consider that improve this batch file. Adding the
Check function to the script will be a better option. For script issue, you can post it in the
Official Scripting Guys Forum. I believe we will get a better assistance there.

UPPER and lower case file extensions for Photo Shop Elements using Windows 7

How do I persuade WIndows 7 to show both UPPER and lower case file extensions, which is a very useful facility offered by my ancient, 2002, version of Photoshop Elements? When processing large volumes (100 plus) photos it is very useful to be able to spot those that have been processed among those awaiting my gentle touch. The JPEG file extension produced by my camera is UPPER case so by using "Save as" with lower case the modified photos are immediately spotted. This worked fine on Windows XP and the same programme has loaded and works well on my new laptop which came loaded with Windows 7 EXCEPT that it persists in using UPPER case all the time, irrespective of the preference settings in PSE. HELP!

In PSE there is a facility "File > process multiple files".
Using this facility you can actually process multiple files at one go and you can easily rename images.

How can we convert standard video files in to flv file at run
time like

Google Video is there any
script or tool to do this. This is urgent.
I have one project in this project client requiring function
like whatever standard video file he upload, it will be play in
.flv formate

I think you need the Macromedia Flash Media Server to be able
to do what you are asking. Flash 8 can with a Flash Video Encoder
but it does not do it on the fly. There maybe other 3rd party
servers that you can sign-up that allow you do this but if you are
looking for your own solution you will need the FMS 2.0.
