Mystery: Error while making pdf in Illustrator

Hi,
I'm experiencing a really weird problem with Illustrator lately...
When I'm at work in the office and my laptop is on its docking station everything works perfectly, but if I take the laptop of its docking station, Illustrator refuses to work with .pdf. This means that I can't save documents as pdf and I can't place or open any pdfs.If I try to do any of this Illustrator freezes and I can only close it by starting the task manager and clicking on "end task".
I haven't got a clue why this is happening, because as far as I know a docking station and an electricty cable do exactly the same thing: give power, nothing more. Does anyone recognize this problem or know how to solve this mystery?

PS. I'm working with the CS5 package and have an HP laptop and docking station.

It's probably having to due to the lack of a default printer. See if you can install and set a virtual printer.

Hi,
I think this is an ADS error. This is a reason why pdf's are not working. We had the same issue.

Solution in our case was to update the SAPADS package to 7.00 17.1

Is there any limit to the number of pages we can print using ADS? We always get
" Error while generating PDF" Error when we try to print reports with more than 500 lines.

Error while generating PDF in portal but not in WAD

Hi,
When I execute the command to export to pdf, I have a screen to fill settings of my pdf, then I valid my choice and I have this message : "Error while generating PDF" in my portal.
However, when I want to execute on Web Application Designer and click on my command "export to pdf", I have a same screen and I can open or save my document.
Is someone have an idea : why it is possible to generate my pdf on WAD but not in my portal ??

I have done the ADS configuration setup and checked all configuration settings.It seems everything is working fine but when i select the option "Print Verison" ( I have executed a query using the query designer) i am getting above error.
FYI: Its a BI 700 system and we are at Suport pack10 level (both ABAP+Java). By the way i should let you know that it is a copy of Production.

I have executed the test report FP_TEST_00 and i got a form containing several lines on two pages.I have checked all the configuration checks and got the correct results as mentioned in the ADS document. But when i try to print a query using the query analyzer,i am getting that PDF error. I have no issues with my other BI 700 system.

Hi Jan,
Most possible causes for encountering this issue are:
Possible cause:
- The ADS is installed on a plattform, that is currently not supported by SAP for ADS. Please check the avaliablity at: Product Availability Matrix
- Mixing of different Netweaver releases (NW04 and NW04s) -> This is unfortunatelly not possibble the J2EE engine release has to match with the ABAP stack release in order connect them properly.
- The ADS SP level does not match the J2EE engine SP level. -> Please update the software components to have the same support package level.

Error while creating PDF object

We are using Adobe Interactive Forms with Guided Procedures. Netweaver 7.0 SP14 (Dual stack Java & Abap). All was working well it appears until we configured SSL for ADS - don't know for sure if this caused the problem but it is the only change we can identify around the time that our problems began.
When we attempt to Create an Impersonalized Form we receive the following error -
Cannot retrieve template structure: Execution ended in an unrecognized state
When we attempt to test a callable object associated with an interactive form we receive -
Error while creating PDF object: PDF object could not be created; object returned from ADS is null.
In both cases the entries in the default trace log are the same -

Joe,
If you originally configured ADS without SSL, I would recommend going back through the ADS Configuration Guide for your NetWeaver stack and make sure all the necessary changes for SSL were made. I've seen another case where a step was missed in SSL configuration for ADS which caused a form to error.
If everything looks good based on your SSL configuration, I would recommend creating an OSS Note.

Application error while generating PDF form

Hello there,
I am getting the message "Application error while generating PDF form" and when you hover it has additional information Message Class HREIC_APPL - Message number 258.
I get this upon doing the following steps:
1. Enter SAP R3, enter HREIC on the transaction code input.
2. Enter EIC, Activity Search. Searched for an Activity, selected it and click the "PRINT" button.
3. After clicking the PRINT button, I get the error message "Application error while generating PDF form".
Installed this on development box, did the same configuration in test system, but still I get this error. ADS Configuration is working fine and configured fine.
Is there anything else that is needed to be checked? like Ports, Firewalls, etc?

I created Web Template BI7. In the requirement I have to export the report in PDF. I used Button group. When I have run the template and click to the PDF switch I am getting the export dialog after I click to 'ok' I am getting the error error while generating PDF". Please help me how to resolve this error. I am in between the development.

Hi Ravi,
First make sure you on the latest patch level for the service pack. Forward the error to the Basis team and ask them to look into the logs. We had a same problem and doing the above 2 steps fixed it.

Error while Opening PDF attachment from Mail

We two Output Types created ZNEU and ZAUF. Two Smartforms are created for the same Output Types. The Issue now is, When ZNEU triggers and send a mail the document is properly decoded and gets opened but for ZAUF it doesn't. It says File damaged.

My Generated Spool request is PDF Spool. It contains Adobe Forms data. To Download Adobe form
 Spool (PDF Spool) into PDF format,
First,
A) Read PDF Spool data by using u2018FPCOMP_CREATE_PDF_FROM_SPOOLu2019 Function module.
B) Assign the Output Data to XSTRING format
C) Convert that XSTRING data to Binary Format using 'SCMS_XSTRING_TO_BINARY' Function module.
D) Save File on Application server using OPEN DATASET , TRANSFER , CLOSE DATASET.You can see your
 downloaded file in Transaction AL11 in specified directory.
You can save your file on Presentation server also using GUI_DOWNLOAD.
First three steps are necessary if your spool is PDF Spool.
Basically we need this when we are downloading Adodbe forms ( which is not a SAPScript or smartforms)

Error while printing (PDF) large BI reports

We use ADS to print our BI reports from the portal. For small reports (10-20 pages) this works fine, but for very large ones (>100 pages) we get the error "Error while generating PDF" on the screen (after a considerable amount of time). In the defaulttrace, I can see this error:

Custom Purchase Order template causes Error while generating PDF

The standard XSLFO works, my custom one errors:
History of the world:
1) I downloaded the XML Publisher thing for Word, installed it no problems
2) Downloaded the XML data definition for the Standard Purchase Order from XML Publisher Administrator
3) Created a blank word document and created the purchase order layout from scratch using the XML Publisher plug-in
4) Previewed it as a PDF in word - it looked fine (well, it was a start)
5) Exported the XSLFO
6) In XML Publisher created a new template and uploaded the XSLFO
7) Assigned the new template to the document in Purchasing
All good... the new template is defintately the one being used by the PO Output for Communication program. The problem of course is that it throws a useless error message :) - namely:

The first version for which the Template Builder was released is 5.0
Well, I guess I am one of the few who has a backported 4.5 version of the template builder. I did that for testing exactly your case. I just replaced our xdocore.jar file with the 4.5 version and it worked. The core.jar is not easily available. The files are part of the 4.5 patch, but I think it is too much work to get them out.
However, I would strongly recommend to upgrade to a later version of XML Publisher. We made huge improvements, since 4.5 - performance, translation, RTF template capabilities....
I just checked the process of converting an RTF template to FO and uploading it to EBS with 5.6.2 and it still worked. So it seems you can go straight to the latest version.
