Mystery of the Disappearing Custom Icons

iMac 2.66; 10.6.4
I create simple custom icon labels for the docs & folders in my dock. I type a filename in TextEdit, take a screenshot of it, open the screenshot in GraphicConverter, and copy & paste it into the getinfo window of the doc or folder. Then I drag it to the dock. Now and then, with no pattern or seeming cause, the custom icons on one or more disappear. Some never disappear. Sometimes it'll be weeks with no problem, sometimes hours. I repair permissions twice a week without fail. I have no other issues going on. Anyone know why this is happening? I've searched the fora but can't find similar problems.

Mac Mini and the Mystery of the disappearing resolution

I've had my Mini for about a month now. It is connected via a Belkin KVM switch to a Yuraku 22-inch VGA monitor. All has been well and the Mini has been outputting at the maximum supported resolution of 1680x1050. Until the weekend.
Now it will only output at 1400x1050, which I noticed it had switched to when I booted it up at the weekend. System Preferences offers 1920x1280 as the maximum resolution and several 1400xYYY options, but nothing with 1650 horizontal.
As far as I know nothing has changed on the Mini. I did remotely control the Mini from my Thinkpad last week (1440x990 screen) via LogMeIn. Whilst I can understand that the resolution might be temporarily changed, why has the 1680x1050 resolution completely disappeared from the display options?

The mystery of the disappearing text headers

I've run into a peculiar problem with a Flash subpage
(several of them actually).
On all of the following pages the header text for the
garments shown (the bold text on the top left with the drop-shadow)
will have sections cut off the end or the beginning as if there
were a transparency layer issue. The problem is intermittent and
only happens when you click on the icons at the top in a certain
order. It almost seems arbitrary and random.

I have moved all of the text in question onto the top layer
of the master file and this anomaly does not show up when testing

The mystery of the disappearing music...

The first time this happened I though I did something wrong. HOWEVER, it continues to happen and I would like to determine if there is a legitimate reason why. My music, movies, podcasts, tvshows, and anything I have in itunes disappear. The first time it happened it was all gone in one fell swoop. Now, when I go into itunes, each time a few more songs are gone. Or movies, or whatever. Any answers out there that will solve this problem?

The Mystery of The Disappearing Bluetooth

Not a huge concern as I just read a posting on how to fix this isue, however I am curious to find out the cause of this problem and not just a fix.
The Bluetooth on my PB has dissapeared 2 times. Wavy live through the icon in the menu and no indication of a Pref Pane in Sys Prefs. Not sure how it was fixed the first time- this time the fix was done by shutting down and removing the battery.
Any of you pros have any idea why this happens?
Looking for the Zen/ Eastern way of looking at this problem and not simply the Western - "Just give it some pills and make it feel better" technique.

The mystery of the disappearing apps

Soon after Apple updated the look of the App description pages, the most bizarre thing happened. I don't know if the timing is a coincidence, but it is most mysterious: Every single one of the apps on my iPhone 3G just vanished after the first sync. The Apple-installed homepage apps were there, but none of the 60+ apps I've downloaded over the past 18 months.
I went to the Mobile Applications folder in my Music home folder, and only a handful were there. Everything else was just gone. And the only backup available to restore from was the most recent which was the App-less backup.
I eventually had to redownload every one of them and reconfigure my app listing.
Does anyone have an idea what may have happened and how I might avoid this in the future??

addendum: the dock is below the screen. when I click at the bottom of the screen it pops up, but does not stay. ???????????????????

Go to Dock in System Preferences. Uncheck auto hide.

Custom icon for Boot Camp partition on Snow Leopard desktop?

I have a Boot Camp partition (NTFS) with Windows XP. In Snow Leopard, the partition shows on the desktop with a generic hard drive icon. I'd like to change this to a custom icon, but when trying to paste over the generic icon in the Get Info window, Edit->Paste is grayed out.
In Leopard, it was possible to have a custom icon for a Boot Camp partition by formatting a thumb drive as FAT32, pasting the custom icon onto it in the Get Info window, booting into Windows XP, and copying two invisible icon files from the thumb drive to the NTFS drive. This would display the custom icon for the Boot Camp partition icon on the Leopard desktop. This doesn't work in Snow Leopard.

I don't see this option in Properties for the Boot Camp volume. In any case, I believe the custom icon is set correctly for the C: drive in Windows. I followed he procedure in the second paragraph of my initial post, which I learned from a post over a year ago. I copied the two hidden files .VolumeIcons.icns and ._ File _ to the C: drive. When I boot into Leopard, the correct custom icon for the Boot Camp partition appears on the Leopard desktop. But when I boot into Snow Leopard, only a generic hard drive icon appears on the desktop for that partition.

Custom Icons Disappear in Cover Flow Above Certain Size

I've been trying to create custom icons for certain folders and I've been having no luck when viewing them in cover flow.
I've downloaded a PNG file, 512x512 pixels. Open it in Preview, copy to the clipboard, do a 'get info' on the folder I wish to change the icon of, click the little icon, hit paste, and it appears correctly in the preview and in the finder Icons view, as well as on my desktop or whatever. However, if I turn on cover flow and drag the size of cover flow to larger than a certain point, the custom image disappears and all I get is a blank spot. It's as if the 256 pixel icon is being created but the 512 pixel image is being left blank.
I do not know if this happened in 10.5.1, as I hadn't tried until after installing the 10.5.2 combo update.
In the following picture, you can see 1: bottom right, a preview of the png file itself as it appears, correctly, in cover flow, 2: top right, the icon working correctly on the desktop and in the get info window, and 3: left: the cover flow view of the computer showing a bit gaping void where the custom icon should reside.

This does NOT happen if I use an existing, working icon (say, put the Applications folder's icon onto my hard drive.) It seems to be an issue with custom icons only, not just changing the icon for something.

Looking also for an app that allows me to merge email and send them out to each recipient individually. Apparently that's not possible yet. Here's what the guys at RedbitsApps told me about Group Email capabilities:
"The current version of the app relies on the device operating system to send the emails. For this reason, sending individual email instead of a single email to multiple recipients is not possible. Apple doesn't allow apps to send single emails to many recipients easily. We may use a custom sending software in a future version."

I downloaded IOS6 and all my apps, including the App Store icon, disappeared. If I go to the Passport icon, there is an App Store button, but I have to search through all the apps to find the one I want and then click on "Open" to use it. Help!

There doesn't seem to be a way to delete the app and start over.

It sounds like the application you are looking for is indeed still on your iPhone. You can confirm this by searching in the Spotlight Search for this application. It may have accidentally been moved to a folder, or an additional Home screen:

The candy crunch icon disappeared off my phone the other day. I try to redownload it through the App Store, but it doesn't give me the option. Will only let me open it and I can resume play. What's going on? All other apps still there.

The candy crunch icon has disappeared from my phone. I went to the App Store and pull it back up and it doesn't give me the option to install it, just open. When I do, it takes to my game where I left off. So my game is still there, but I can't install it on my phone.

Custom icon NEXT TO the mousec cursor

I've been pondering on how to make it possible to add a custom icon next to the mouse cursor.
When the user clicks on a specific component in the gui and starts to "drag" it, an icon should be attached to the mouse cursor that shows that the component is attached to it. Sort of like a tiny icon below the cursor to the right.
Anyone done this and can share some info?

You could put a java2d to draw a picture next to the mouse.
if you made this transparent and on top of everything then that wod work.
OR
You could change the mouses image to the icon. But i dont know how you would reposition it.

Custom icon strip - how to reference it in the HHC?

I could not get the custom icon strip to work for me. I think that I understood the overall concept but I do not know how to reference the bmp file in the HHC.Ricks Tips and Tricks file only states "make the reference inside the HHC file". Where exactly do I place the <param name="..." value="C:..BMP"> reference?
Perhaps there is an example?

thanks for your efforts despite my ignorance! My HHC file does not look like that, it has a different structure without an HTML list. After some fiddeling I got it to work now, even though I still did not find out why my TOC structure does not match yours (the binary TOC option is not active).
Instead of using the <param name="ImageList" value="C:tocimages.bmp"> line, I inserted the reference into the properties tag. My HHC looks like this now and it works:

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Moving photos from photostream to your library just imports them, it doesn't remove it from photostream, therefore photostream won't disappear.
Photos in photostream can't be edited, you can only edit photos that have been imported from photostream.
