Mystery slot in my computer

Ok..this is probably a dumb questions, but can anybody tell me what that slot is for at the left side of my MacBook Pro? There seems to be a slot that I can push in (beside headphone jack) but I have no idea what "goes there"...anyone want to help a brother out? Thanks...

  • Where can I find an SD card slot on my computer?

I love this computer a lot, but the only problem is that when I want to download pictures onto the computer from my camera, it takes forever because I have to connect the camera to my computer with a cord. I was just wondering if there is a SD slot, to make things a lot easier? Thanks a ton!

The 13" and 15" MacBook Pro models have an SD or SDXC card slot depending on the year model.

You can buy a USB adapter so you can use an SD card in the adapter.
Here is just one of many examples.

  • RAM Slot Faulty? Computer Only Boots With One Module of RAM

Ok, so my Macbook Pro is out of warranty and my 100gb HDD was getting a bit tiny, so I decided to upgrade it myself.
After following directions on iFixit, the harddrive went in without a hitch. When I put it back together and boot it up, the latch/sleep light came on, hdd spun up, fans spun, CD spun however the screen refused to turn on.
So I tried resetting PMU, PRAM etc to no avail (would not accept keystrokes). Then I had a fiddle with the RAM (there is 2 512mb modules) and basically worked out that if I have either one module in the top and nothing in the bottom everything was A-OK. But if I put either one by itself in the bottom or have both together (either way around) the computer would do the same thing as before (screen would not turn on but made all other usual sounds). Does this mean the bottom RAM slot is faulty?? If so would the logic board have to then be replaced?!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
That's exactly what it sounds like that the RAM slot is bad. Unfortunately you also might have damaged it yourself in doing all the iFixit instructions. And yes a logicboard replacement would be in order if you couldn't get anything to work. As long as you have something limping along I'd save the money for the logicboard replacement, and in the future have an authorized service center do such installation while you are still under AppleCare with the proviso they promise you to document it under AppleCare that they did it and they will remove the RAM if it ever was found to be bad in the future so that you have no risk of losing your AppleCare in case an accident happened in the installation. If no authorized service center in your area will give you that sort of stipulation in writing, be sure only to buy machines build to order with the parts you need up front, and don't expect to be able to upgrade it in the future.

  • Several mysterious problems with Solaris 11 x86 install

    Hi folks,
I've recently installed Solaris 11 x86 as a replacement for Solaris 9 SPARC on an Ultra 2 machine. I like the operating system, but I've promptly acquired some mysterious problems. The computer is a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo E2500 with a Pentium 4 HT 3.06 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, an 80 GB SATA disk and a 147 GB SCSI disk.
I have had a few occasions on which the screen goes totally blank, the monitor claims that there is no signal, and I have to restart the machine. However, with the blank screen, the hard drive activity light is sometimes still flashing. This happens predictably when I try to log off (as opposed to shutting down) and when I use Totem media player and click on anything inside the Totem window. The motherboard has built-in graphics and brief specifications can be found here:
    http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/professionalpc/ESPRIMO/Datasheets/ds_esprimo_edition_e2500.pdf
Yesterday my PS/2 keyboard started causing the motherboard to beep crazily when I use it. It beeps rapidly 4 times, then prints the expected character. However, the problem doesn't occur at the initial log in screen. The mouse cursor has also gone beserk on one occasion, flying all over the screen (I had this problem with a previous PC, but a different OS, and thought it was a hardware fault, which I why I got this new computer). With the keyboard problem, the machine is basically unusable. However, it is configured as a dual boot machine, and the keyboard problem isn't present with Windows XP.
There are also a few smaller, odd problems. Occasionally all the icons vanish from my Gnome desktop. The command prompt also mysteriously changed from $chris@pluto to $bash-4.1 just before the keyboard problem appeared, although that might have had something to do with me copying my home directory to a different disk and editing the /etc/auto_home file (moving the home directory worked fine). Also, unlike with Solaris 9 SPARC, I find that I have to have external SCSI devices switched on at boot time, should I want to use them later. That's a pain. With Solaris 9, I could run "boot -r" when I first attached the device, then switch on the SCSI devices and mount them whenever I wanted.
After the useful advice I received here about "more" and "less", I thought I'd post these problems and see if anyone can help. I'd really appreciate some advice. Can anyone identify likely causes for these problems? Which problems can I expect to solve and which do I have to live with?

  • HT204053 2nd SD Card does not show up on desktop with out Restarting computer.

I have iMac. I use 2 sets (A1-A2 and B1-B2) of dual SD cards for 2 videography cameras. A1 and A2 are identical. B1 and B2 are identical. Initally all SD cards showed up on desktop. They erased in Disk Utility when I'd downloaded the data. Then suddenly w/ no changes to computer or software, only 1 card would show up when I inserted it into the SD slot. If I insert 2nd card, nothing showed up on desktop, in finder or in disk utility. BUT, if I did a Restart, with the 2nd card in the slot, when the computer came back on, behold, there it was. I downloaded the contents, erased it in disk utility. I need to erase 4 32 Gb SD cards and erase them. I'm currently rebooting 3 times to accomplish this. It's a HUGE HUGE time sink to do this every time I want to download from cards. What's going on with the rebook solution? and how can I get back to better functioning? Solutions please. Thank you.

Are you using the USB cable that came with the shuffle?  The 2nd gen shuffle uses the USB cable with a mini-dock at the shuffle end.  The USB cable for the 3rd and 4th (current) gen shuffle does not work, because the connector is different.
If you are using the correct USB cable...  The shuffle will not continously appear on the Mac's desktop unless it is set to Enable disk use.  So "does not appear on desktop" may be OK.
It should appear in iTunes.  The latest version of iTunes may hide the sidebar.  To show the sidebar, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  With the sidebar visible, the shuffle does not appear under DEVICES in the sidebar when connected?

  • Lower PC Card slot on 1999 PowerBook (Wall Street)

I have added a USB port via a dedicated PC card. If I insert it in the upper slot it works fine (e.g. I can print), but if I insert it in the lower slot it doesn't (e.g. I can't print). But if I eject the USB PC Card from the lower slot with the computer running, the Finder crashes, as if the lower slot was kind of inoperable, but kind of detected anyway...
Any diagnosis tips? Is it just a setting somewhere?
    Thanks!
    Carlos Sanchez
1999 PowerBook (Wall Street)   Mac OS 9.1.x

    Carlos,
Both slots on the Wallstreet should work with any PC card with one exception. The lower slot also has Zoomed Video support and that is where the DVD Decoder PC card is used if playing DVDs.
If the upper slot works properly but not the lower, odds are there is a hardware problem with PCMCIA/CardBus cage; this is the mechanism into which you insert the PC card.
If this Wallstreet was bought used, it probably came to you with this problem. The lower slot may have been heavily used by the previous owner or it just failed with normal use as mechanical devices sometimes do.
When you insert the card in the lower slot, does the PC card icon appear on the desktop?
Are you using a combo PC card (both FireWire and USB) or just USB?
I will mention this anyway, but I am sure you are aware...'processor cycling' must be disabled in the Energy Saver > Advanced Settings for both Battery and Power Adapter when using a USB PC card, otherwise the 'book will freeze.

  • Connect to the computer a sound system 7,1 with one jack ??

hello everybody, i want to buy?the speakers system T7900, but i have only one jack slot on my computer. i have read that i can connect a system 7,1 with this slot, but i don't understand how is possible? to connect a 7,1 with jack slot. For information, i have a fujitsu siemens m3438g 75005 thank you to answer me

I think there's no problem in connecting a 7.1 system with one jack (if so always with the green one)But you have a cheap solution that allows you to have sound on all speakers:Buy two of these http://img.mercadolivre.com.br/jm/im...65_670.jpg&v=P
And in one of them insert the yellow and black jack and this adaptor will insert in one of the holes of the other adaptor along with the green jack having something like this.yellow/black | | adaptor/green | | adaptor | sound card
But, although it woks you won't have the same surround sound that you could have if you connected the speakers with the 3 jacks to a sound card (without adaptors). Hope you understand, and sorry for the bad english, I'm portuguese

  • My computer wont detect my Canon vixia hf r400

Please Help me. My computer wont detect my Canon vixia hf r400 im running windows 8 and I tried everything from installing the drivers to the USB ports, I have my ports in legacy mode and still wont detect. I have USB 3.0 ports but I can't imagine it not being backwards compatible. What can I do to get my computer to recognize it. It only detects when I have a memory card in the camcorder but that is like just having the card in a SD slot on my computer. No software that come with it will detect it either.

Put the camera into AVCHD mode before connecting it to the computer.

  • What is the simplest way to get video from mini DV tapes into computer

My computer has no firewire connection. What is the simplest way to get the video from my camera (JVC GR-D340EK) ?

    Mikeathome
    Thanks for the reply.
The reason that I asked if this was a one time thing or not was related to my thoughts about asking you to look at the relative costs of have the DV data capture firewire done professional or by a friend versus going through looking for slots on your computer for a firewire card or purchasing a computer that still comes with a firewire port.
We will be watching for further developments.
    Thanks.

  • Can I safely insert a 3 1/8" mini disc into the drive slot?

    Please advise.

Someone at my house inserted such a minidisk into the CD drive on my MBP.
Darn right, it does not mount, btw.
Anyone got any ideas or advice on how to get the mini OUT of the drive. The slot on the computer has those fuzzy fringes, makes it hard to see inside.
    Thanks.

  • Computer doesn't detect newly inserted RAM

    Hello,
I own a dual core 2.0 GHz G5. I just purchased more RAM 1GB x2. I have inserted them into the memor slots and my computer is not detecting them. What gives? I could use some help trouble shooting the situation. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Sometimes they take some effort. And sometimes you just need to boot into Open Firmware on startup holding down the four keys
    command + option + o + f
then reset nvram using three commands:
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
... Mac will now reboot and tried to find system startup disk. you may want to use the OPTION key at that point and you will need to reset the Startup Disk.
Give that a try. (And they are in the correct paired slots.)

  • Transfering pictures from memory card to computer

    Here’s my question,
I have a new HP Photosmart 7520e all in one. I put my memory card in the slot but the printer screen does not show my computer as a destination option.  I'm using Windows 7.  Nothing at the computer end acknowledges that the card is in the printer slot. The computer is wireless hook up. How do I transfer pictures from the card to the computer?
Thanks support team. My old HP Printer pooped out on me and I just got this new one hooked up. I have a card full of pictures I need to move into “My Pictures” but so far, my new HP doesn’t want me to. Stainless909

My computer does NOT have a card slot or I would have use it to start with. Next: This sentence doesn't make any sense to me. (youyr answer) "You can map the card to network drive but why you have to do that hard ?"  I don't understand "maping net works".
All my previous (4) HP printers had card slots (as this one does) but when I put my card in the computer would read it and ask me if I  was ready to import them and I picked the destination ... click on "import" and it happened. This one.. nothing happens on the computer but the printer screen gives me a choice of destinations (snapfish & usb cord) but does not offer an option of moving them to the computer. Are you not understanding my problem????  Would this be better resolved with a phone call? 951 769-8420 Thanks Bruce aka... Stainless909

  • Upgrad to my computer

I am new here and need to ask an important question.  It may have been partially answered but I don't think the whole question has been answered so here goes:
I have the HP H8 1234 Desktop PC and love it, for the most part.  I play World of Tank on it and of course it has the ATI Radeon 7450 1GIG DDR3 Graphics Card along with a 300 wat power supply unit.  These 2 items limit my abilities to play this game and a few others such as World of War Planes and War Thunder, both of which are a bit more graphics intensive than World of Tanks.  While this card is an improvement over what I had, it just doesn't cut it.
I need to know what power supply unit(s) will drop right in and what ATI Radeon Graphics Cards will drop right in without causing any problems with over heating and such.  Of course I want to get as much bang for the buck but also need to go as cheap as possible too.  I don't believe that I need anything above a 500 watt power supply and would actually like to get to a 2 gig graphics card but will settle for a 1 gig, if it will out perform what I now have.
I am currently running about 35FPS on World of Tank at minimum settings along with having to use Game Booster just to achieve that.  World of War Planes and War Thunder I run from 5 FPS to 20 FPS, depending on the map we play on.  I have not had any issues with over heating and do not want to go there now but also need information of better cooling, if the card and power supply will cause any issues.
I thank you in advance for any and all advice and assistance you can give.

Here are the original factory specs for your HP Pavilion HPE h8-1234 Desktop Computer. Based on these specs, this model has a Gen 2.0 PCIe x16 graphics card slot and should support most Gen 2.0, 2.1, and 3.0 graphics cards.
The 1GB / 2GB issue isn't really going to have that much of an impact on performance. Please see AMD Radeon HD 7000 series graphics cards for an assortment of cards that should meet your requirements. Make see to measure along the plane of the PCIe x16 slot, in your computer, for obstructions. Measure from the rear of the case forward and limit the graphics card to something a little shorter than that measurement.
Please consider the Corsair CX500, CX500M, CX600, or CX600M for your power supply needs. These PSUs are direct drop-in replacements and are known to fit most HP consumer desktop computer cases. The "M" models are modular to reduce cable clutter and improve airflow when compared to the non-"M" versions.

    hi pshdo,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Can you take a photo of your mainboard slots.
the reason is, Your system board might be different from this photo i found for H530,
but if it is the same then, here it is
Your system has 1 PCIE x16 most likely for GPU or Graphics card.
Then you have this three small PCIE x1.
check if that firewire adapter supports PCIE x1 then you good to go,
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!
