  • Need help / suggestion in creating realistic thunder particle effect

I has a lot of problem in creating realistic thunder particle
    effect:
    1) The "particle" I use is a tiny white square, when it
duplicating it create weird thunder...simply say ithe lighting
    effect look very fake.
    2) The motiton of thunder is too "sharp", it make the thunder
    look like "zip zap"
    3) So far I only can create one thunder bolt but I cannot
make it split into few thunder bolt and move to different
    direction.
Can anyone give me some suggestion, either in graphic, math
    or logic?

  • Recording thunder in the field

    hello all:
we recently have had a spate of thunder storms and i had the bright idea to setup my MacBook, STP, and my m-audio Firewire Solo with an instrument mic to try and capture some of the thunder claps. i had the mic pointed out of an open window.
the only problems i had were the fact that the truly loudest claps were causing the FW Solo to clip. i got to a point where i could guage the sound levels just after the lightning flash based on the brightness, duration, and perceived closeness and adjust the gain quickly. playback revealed that the claps that clipped sounded not-so-great. i haven't spent much time working with the ones that didn't clip, but i think i can EQ and compress them to get something that sounds pretty good.
my question is, doe anyone know of any good resources for field recordings like this? does anyone have any recommendations for mics or other setup suggestions? i don't have any reason for doing it other than academic curiosity.
    PowerMac G5 2.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

you need to use a hardware based compressor... and turn down the gain. there is not a compressor in the world that give you that type of gain reduction and still sound natural. i would even consider recording to analog tape and then capturing. clipping a digital input is nasty, where clipping an analog tape is, albeit bad sounding, it won't give you the digital clipping artifact. i'm going to go ahead and make the assumption that "distorted peak thunder" has no discernable difference in sound that "clean peak thunder", so when it clips on tape, it won't affect your sound... it will give you just a bit more headroom.
i would also use 2 mics. use 1 small diaphram condensor and then use a large diaphram condensor. in the mix, combine the 2... using low freqs from the large diaphram mic.

  • Is a USB3 ssd + Thunder bolt Lacie 256 gig drive compatible with a macbook 2008 with usb2 ports ?

Is a USB3 SSD + Thunder bolt Lacie 256 gig drive compatible with a Macbook 2008 with USB2 ports ?
I just purchased a Lacie SSD drive which ejects its self without any warning. Disappears from finder and disk utility. A message come up saying that the drive was ejected incorrectly when it is still shooing on desktop. I have tried both usb2 ports on mac with different cables ( usb2 to usb2 and usb3 to usb2 ) same problem.
    Anybody have any ideas ?

  • Will thunder bolt display work off Ati 7970 mini display port?

Hay sorry if this has been done before, after reading a few threads i am still confused re compartiblity,
I have a MacPro 3.1 2x 3.2Ghz quad core, with an Ati 7970, it has a mini display port on it, will a 27inch thunderbolt display work of this? i understand that the thunder bolts on the back of the display will not? but also what about the usb's?

    turbostar wrote:
those displays now will be out of warranty and a good number have brightness issues over time.
False. The reported brightness issues are very rare. The 30" is one of the best displays ever sold by Apple. Find one for $700-800.
Both the ACD and TBD have the same glare issue as the pre-2012 iMacs. They were never updated to the direct lamination of the 2012-13 iMac screens.

  • Is 'Thunder port' compatible with 'mini port' cords/divices?

I am attempting to use my Imac 27" as a display for my xbox 360. So as instructed by "Apple chat" I purchased a KANEX XD connector for $140 and now it is not woking because of the Thunder port. Then I seeked assistance once more from "Apple chat" to purchase the Thunderbolt cord and by replacing the mini port cord with the thunder port cord my divices "should" work. I need to know if tis will work before purchase. I have beed instructed to purchase 3 items just for this one issue and 2 out of 3 have not worked and now I am -$160.00. Will purchasing this new cord solve my problem?

But before the transition from mini to thunder, the mini display port could be attached to a KANEX XD and then to an XBOX 360 using the previous 27" iMAC then as a monitor screen for game play...
So I already found out the NEW 27" iMAC can only receive video/audio from another thunderbolt port using the thunderbolt cord to a thunderbolt port again. Does this mean I am going to have to return all the purchased items and wait for a connector to become available to connect 360 to Thunderbolt?

  • DVI connection on Monitor - Thunder or HDMI

    Hi,
I just got a new monitor that has a DVI connection.  Should I use the thunder port or the HDMI port?  I'm thinking with HDMI I would have to have some kind of extra converter thing right?
    Thanks

Have no idea. If this is from the Retina model then from what I hear the Res on external screens is not all that good. Many reports of blurried screens no matter what resolution or connection type is used. Try both pick the one you like the best.

  • Minidisplay port to thunder bolt

    Hi everybody,
I do have an apple cinema display 24" from 2009 with a minidisplay port (male) and I do want to buy a new laptop computer or a Mac Mini.
Is there any way to connect my screen to them (they come with thunder bolt port only) or do I have to throw it to the garbage tin whenever I change of laptop?
    Thank you for your help.

Here's an article which explains mini-displayport vs. thunderbolt and which way devices using these connections can interact.
    Confusing Mini DisplayPort with Thunderbolt
So connecting a TB machine to a mini-displayport device will work.

  • Connecting Samsung Mythic to Macbook

I recently got a macbook and was trying to connect my samsung mythic cell phone to it, to transfer photos, add music, and such. I was able to pair my phone with the mac, but i couldn't figure out how to connect it to my mac, to transfer files and whatnot.
I got to a bluetooth setup assistant that asked me my phone's vendor and model, as well as a username and password. I'm stuck.
    Can anyone help?

I can't get my Samsung Convey (phone) to send photos to my MacBook Pro. It shoes up as a device in the phones Bluetooth Menu, and I can send a name card or a calendar event but I cannot send photos.
To send photos you go to a separate folder, the pictures folder, and the problem is getting the device to show up and stay there. It will show up but not stay as a device.
I called Samsung and was told "we don't support Macintosh computers, call Apple." They'll support a transfer to a Windows machine, but not an Apple machine.
So, anyone here want to help me?
The laptop sees the phone when I try to pair that way. The phone sees the laptop for sending other things, but it won't pair for sending photos....

  • Deleting or changing a password of a ftp connection in Thunder

Can anybody help tell me how to delete a ftp connection or at least edit it in Thunder Beta?
    Thanks

    Hey Sudheer!
    Thanks for replying...
Unfortunately QSR6 is actually identical to CA98 (see my post above).
A third-Party software needs to be able to change or delete routings (using an RFC), this cannot be done using the program RQPREDE2 (being t.Code CA98 or QSR6)
I couldn´t find anything in the help file that helped me in my quest, but thanks for posting it!
It´s getting rather late back here, CU guys in 12 hours!

  • Fail to boot after thunder storm

Early yesterday morning a sever thunder and lightening storm came through.  My iMac was off and attached to a surge protector.  today, i went to boot the iMac up and found that it would not boot.  I also noticed that my panasonic phone system was not working properly (digitial phones are not functional).
the building was NOT hit by lightening nor can I find any nearby location that was, but we did lose power for several hours while the power company sorted it out.
i brought the iMac to the local Mac store and tech support tere says it is getting power, but fails to continue the boot cycle which they think is either the logic board or video card, but will not know more until tomorrow.
Has anyone ever heard of a "none" lightening strike fried a computer?

It doesn't take a direct lightning strike to fry delicate electronics like a computer or phones.   And surge protectors do not provide any protection against lightning whatsoever.
The lightning strike could have been miles away, it would not have to be right at your building.  There could even have been a ground strike in your neighborhood that has no physical evidence you could see.  And it wouldn't even have to be a ground strike - cloud-to-cloud strikes can generate as much EMP or EMI as a ground strike.
The EMP/EMI induced by lighning could also have come in via your phone line or internet connection, not just the power line.  Even the ground line can end up being a conductor.

  • I have a dead thunder bug, right in the middle of my screen and it's dead!!

I have a dead thunder bug, right in the middle of my screen and it's dead!! It's so annoying - what can I do? How the **** did it get in there.

Uhm. It crawled in there? Strange.
If your laptop is still under warranty then bring it to an apple store. This way they will take it apart for you and you wont be voiding your warranty.
If it's not under warranty, you could bring/call a apple store and see if they will do it for free.

the question is clear but may not be what you're really asking. You cannot place a light source outside the window unless you build the scene in Motion's 3D space. You have an interior shot, you need lightning to appear to be flashing outside the window. That would not illuminate the entire scene, necessarily, but it might cast a hard window shape onto the floor or the wall. Draw a mask shaped like the window, with the curtains and mullions, and distort it in perspective and place it on the surface.Illuminating it can be done many ways and I'll leave you to discover them. However, remember that lightning is an instantaneous discharge, like a photo flash, not a light bulb. And yet the convention for film and stage lightning is more like the ramping up and down of an incandescent lamp. Horror movies tend to use only one or two frames of lightning flash, accompanied with a cut to a closeup, to illuminate the threat in a scene and then a cut to a reaction shot of the protagonist.
