N/A Calories for workout :-(

Yesterday I restored my iPod nano, thus deleting all my Nike+ data on it.
No problem. That was expected.
However, after working out today, there is no calorie-count on my workout. Not on the iPod, not on the Nike+ website.
I have entered my weight on the iPod.
Any ideas?

got it! was pretty simple, though. don't forget to push the middle button on your ipod when you reenter your weight.

  • Template for workouts or running?

Before I attempt to create my own spreadsheet to track running I thought I'd ask if anyone had created something already and would be willing to share.
Thanks in advance for any help. Otherwise, I'll get busy myself
    Dave

you could check numberstemplates.com If you ask on their forums, someone else might have something or will assist in making one.
One thing you should do is look every article and question ou can find on here dealing with time calculations. It seems to work different than in other spreadsheets.
Hope this gives you a lead into getting it done.

  • Editing the lenght of songs for workouts

I want to be able to create a playlist with songs of limited lenght (such as 30, 60, 90, and 120 seconds) to time my workouts. I found the feature that allows you set the start and finish times on certain songs, but I want to be able to listen to the whole songs in other playlists. Is this possible to do with I-tunes? Is there a way to edit the songs into timed segments and safe them separate from the originals, or splice them together into one new 'song' made up of segments from other songs?

    Change the start/stop times.
Select the songs then go to menu Advanced -> Convert selection to...
This will create a new copy of the song which is the length between the start/stop times.
Rename them something like Song title - Short.
Add them to a workout playlist.
Uncheck the start/stop times on the originals.
Also, select the short songs, right click - get info.
Tick Skip when shuffling so they don't play when you select shuffle songs on the main menu.

  • More Customization for Workouts-Interval Training

Is there a way to add more customization to the custom workouts? I'm trying to follow the Nike+ Coaching section which wants me to do some interval training (1 minute hard run followed by 3 minutes easy).
It would be useful to have a way to get time checks every 5 minutes. Or at the half-way point start the interval training. Is there a way to do that with the Nike+iPod?

Hey, did you ever get an answer to your question? I am interested in the samething.

I bought my ipod nano today and I downloaded the user manual.  It says that in order to use it for workouts all I need to do is calibrate it for height and weight...however, there is only a pedometer setting and no run setting. Why is this? Can anyone help??

Connect your Nano to iTunes, click the update button on the summary screen. Once that is done, you will get what you expect.

  • Apple Watch running accuracy

Curious to hear about other's early day experience with Apple Watch while running.  Results for me, relative to what I've seen using other devices or apps, are a bit all over the place.
For example, for a 7 mile run in 60 minutes for a 41-yr old male, 6'0 185 lbs:
    - Strava:             ~1000-1050 calories burned, avg heart rate ~ 140-150bpm (outdoors)
    - Life Fitness:     ~1000 calories burned (on a treadmill)
    - Nike+:              ~ 900-950 calories burned (outdoors)
    - Apple Watch:     690 calories burned, avg heart rate 190-210bpm (this is on a 'Run Outside' setting)
As an aside, I also tried it with Insanity for a 42-minute Plyo workout and only burned around 350 calories, which I could just about do walking (and break a much lighter sweat).
What are others seeing, and are there tricks to improve accuracy?  Thanks.

It is possible you are comparing apples to oranges. The “Workout” app reports active calories burned. The “Activity” app displays both the active and resting calories burned during the workout. The total calories burned during the workout will include both the resting and active calories. It's likely that the other devices you used include both. I assume the 690 calories you report are just the Active calories.
One example: I walked a 5.1 mile route at 4.3 mph and the workout app says I have burned 451 calories, but the Activity app also includes 130 calories of resting, for a total of 581 calories. I used an online calculator that uses my height, weight and age and it estimates I should burn 517 calories. The online calculator doesn’t use my heart rate or the elevation change during the walk, so it should be less accurate. The walk has an elevation gain of 600’, so it is logical that my calorie burn should be more than the online calculator. The watch appears to be fairly accurate in this example.
I have made this same walk four times using the watch and it has been within 6 calories each time… very precise!  My walking speed ranged from 4.1 to 4.3 mph on the four walks. I also have made two 6.3 mile hikes (with a 1300’ elevation change) and the watch calculated a total (resting plus active) of 850 and 828 calories (also quite close). The 850 burn was at a faster pace with a 128 bpm heart rate, compared to 115 bpm for the lower calorie burn, so the difference in the calories seems about right.
I put your statistics in the same calculator and it estimated a 966 calorie burn for your run (again, no heart rate info). I assume the 690 calories you report are just the Active calories, so that would require 276 resting calories to make up the difference. I am about the same height/weight as you and my resting calories for an hour would be a little over 100 calories, so 276 seems a little high. However, I am over 20 years older than you with a 50 bpm resting heart rate, so your resting calories would likely be higher due to your younger age (and possibly a higher resting heart rate). Given all this, I would say the watch may be slightly low in your case (assuming the online calculator is accurate), but the watch still seems more accurate than the other devices (assuming the 690 is only the active calories).
The only other thing that seems odd is the heart rate during the run… it seems very high. Do you think it is accurate? Are you using the “Power Saving Mode” in the Workout app? You can check this on the Watch app (on the iPhone) and look under the Workout app settings. The Power Saving Mode still measures your heart rate, but is less accurate than the default mode.
The most accurate way to measure calorie burn requires measuring your oxygen consumption, which has a direct relationship to calories. The Watch/iPhone (and all your other devices) use indirect methods to estimate calories. In general, a device that use heart rate, distance and elevation should be better than a device that only counts steps. However, I don’t really care if the results are completely accurate, as long as they are consistent. I simply want to be able to compare one workout with another. The Apple Watch has proven to be VERY consistent in my experience so far.

  • Multiple iPods on one computor

We have three iPods and 1 computer, what is the best way to sync each iPod so each person only gets the music they want on their iPod?

I have a similar question. How can I sync my entire library to another iPod? I have my library on a Nano and want to duplicate it on a Shuffle for workouts.

  • Why is my purchased app on the iMac not sending to my iPad?

    Hey,
I purchased the new iPad today and want to get it set up for my personal training business. I am loading it up with apps for workouts and came across an app called "daily workouts". I installed this app on my iMac with the hope of sending it across to the iPad but for some reason, iTunes is not noticing it. It opens fine on my iMac but will not go to iTunes to be sent to the iPad.
Does anyone know what I have to do?
All this is new to me as I am not clued up with computers so please speak in English!!

Did you buy it in the Mac App Store or the iTunes app store on your computer ? If the Mac App Store then it will only work on your Mac (OS X) and not on the iPad (iOS), they are different operating systems. If you bought it in iTunes then you should be able to re-download it on the iPad in the App Store app : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • Ipod nano 6th gen not recognized in itunes

I recently purchased a used "AS IS" ipod nano 6th gen. The only problem with it is that it's not recognized by iTunes. I was fairly sure on purchasing it that solving this would be as simple as resetting it, or, at worst, figure it out by googling the problem. The method involving holding down the sleep/wake button and volume down for 8 seconds until the apple logo appears didn't help. Putting it in disk mode didn't help. I have a mac and I suspect the original owner of the ipod may have used windows, so I tried both of these things again with my dad's PC. I at least got some response--an error message saying the usb device couldn't be read or something of that sort (I can look up the exact message again tomorrow if it's relevant).
I don't think it's the USB plug or cord, because both of these work with my iphone and another ipod nano in the household. I don't think it's itunes either, for the same reason. I'm running Lion, fully up-to-date, on a Macbook Pro. ITunes is also fully up-to-date.
I wouldn't be devastated if I can't fix it, since it still charges and plays music (the previous owner's hip-hop/club type music works pretty well for workouts), and it's probably not worth it to me to pay Apple to repair it. But…if anyone has any suggestions for things I can try to get it totally working, I'd love to hear them!

    solved it :-)
Apparently it's not enough to reinstall iTunes itself, but all mobile device software should be uninstalled, then your pc has to be rebooted and then iTunes has to be installed again.

  • Won't charge

My first piece of Apple technology! Not making a very good impression so far. I've read the discussion boards and the troubleshooting FAQs. Sure are a lot of design problems, and a heck of a lot of things to do before giving up and getting it repaired under warranty---which costs $30 "shipping and handling" for a $45 device! OK, enough complaining, here's my issue:
My 4th gen shuffle ran out of charge after a single use, and I can’t get it to charge up again.
    - I made sure to push the USB connecter fully into the shuffle (after reading these discussions)
    - I disconnected all other USB devices from the computer
    - I updated to the latest Itunes version
    - I have successfully charged it once, and synched it once, and played it once. That one time was for about 45 minutes while I was running. (I have seen other posts that say that working out with this small, clip-on device obviously designed for workouts, can cause it to fail. I didn’t get it particularly sweaty but I didn’t protect against that, either.)
    Current symptoms:
    - Plugged shuffle into USB port.
    - Shuffle light started flashing amber
    - Itunes opened automatically
    - Itunes recognized the shuffle. A page appeared that said “Welcome to your new Ipod, let’s get started”. I clicked continue and the next page was titled “Summary”, with the word “Music” next to it at the top of the page, similar to a tab in windows. In the column on the left, itunes had an entry for Devices with the name I gave the ipod. There is a symbol apparently for a battery, with a lightning bolt in it, apparently indicating the battery is charging? (Too bad itunes designers haven’t learned to use language instead of pictograms.) However, the ipod light is flashing amber, which apparently indicates it isn’t charging. To the right of the battery there’s a circle with an inscribed triangle and a dashed line beneath it. (Freemasons click here? Warning, 1/3rd of a nuclear hazard? Someday Apple will discover words, I dream of it.) Meanwhile the ipod light is still flashing amber. I let this continue for an hour or so, then I got bored.
    - Next I clicked on the Freemason symbol next to the device name…ah, the Freemason symbol means “eject”. Obviously. The shuffle light is solid amber and the device is no longer recognized by itunes or windows.
    - I unplugged the shuffle. The light is off. It remains off when I press the voice over button twice.
    - I plugged it back in. Amber light flashing, itunes appears again, Windows recognizes it as a drive. I play a song from that drive, so I can use the ipod as long as I carry around a computer to supply power and speakers.
    - I tried plugging into a USB port on the back of the computer, same result. It did charge up using the front USB that one time.
Question: How do I persuade the ipod to charge? Any hints? If I take this to an Apple store will they charge me to fix it (or to learn the secret of operating it)?

Wow, what a long post for a short problem.
The flashing amber light does not mean it is not charging, it means it is in use, probably due to your antivirus/antispyware software scanning it or you have enabled disk use mode.
Use the USB port in the back of your computer and let it charge for at least 3.5 hours and make sure your computer does not go to sleep during that time (USB doesn't charge when a computer goes to sleep and can actually drain the device). Turn the iPod off while you are charging this time. Remove it after the allotted time and turn the power switch on and see if you get a green or amber light. If it comes on try to play it.
If this doesn't work you may have had sweat get into it and damage the battery.

  • How well do you like your nano?

I have (or had is a better term) a 2nd gen 8gb ipod nano. For my brothers 21st birthday, my parents bought him a bloodhound puppy. Talk about a big mistake that was! She decided to use it as a chew toy. Fortunately it still works, but has minor scratches on the metal case (through a rubber protective case no less!). I say minor as it has no huge gouges. It has teeth dents all over it. Thankfully the screen doesnt have a scratch since I had a hard plastic protector covering it. The aluminum shell is scratched pretty bad as well.

I bought 2 nanos: 1 for me, 1 for my girlfriend for a christmas gift. Now that mine looks like crap, I am going to get a new iPods for both her and I and I was wondering how everyone liked your 3rd gen nano?
We are going to sell her iPod nano to cover some of the cost. Is it even worth trying to sell mine?
Here are the two photos of my iPod. What do you think now? Still worth selling?

I never had a Nano before the 3rd gen so I can only really compare it with my other iPods. I bought it specifically for running with the Nike+ Sport Kit. I thought that the fact that it played videos was kind of silly.
I really love the Nano. I find I use it more than my Touch. It's great for workouts as it is so small and light. And yes, I do watch videos on it. Prior to the Touch and the 3rd gen Nano, I'd always wanted the biggest iPod I could buy. However, I find for many day to day uses, a 4 gig Nano is great. A few hundred songs, a couple of games, a handful of podcasts, a television show and I'm ready for my urban commute, a run, and an hour of relaxing at the local coffee shop.
The sound quality is great. I've had no problems with it. In fact, it has probably been the most trouble free of any of my iPods (not that any of them have given me much trouble).
I understand what you mean. I didnt use my old nano for anything but music, a couple podcasts and the rare file transfer. I dont know if I will ever use this to watch video, since I have a laptop, portable dvd player, an portable external hard drive, etc. I dont think i even would need a bigger (HD space wise) ipod than 8gb.
If you dont mine my asking, any reason you have a 3rd gen 4gb Nano, a touch and a 60GB ipod? I understand the nano for the commute, but what about the others?

As far i am concerned with this IT WEB based Solution in my Broad opinion there should be these improvement be considered in Updates of Firmware And NSU..
As Title describes in logical sense about specific Varient Code to upgrade the phone firmware..here i suggest
CODE Change Option should be provided during on line update procedure due to following reasons...
some one purchased phone from a fair price shop or from another country in which he does not live and return his motherland with that region code which is useless in terms of concerned region code update where the phone being used,
Language in terms of interoperatibility of prime concern in a Region eg; Italy and Pakistan here the phone purchased in Italy But have to use in pakistan or Iran..
NOKIA is a World Leader but lost the point of prime concern in terms of Global operation in Firmware update as a user dont want the other language than english so why does not he has to opt out the concern during update the firmware in another region or language if he does not prefer the english for other?
to opt out the Special Edition eg;N6630ME N73ME Firmware update for their non special edition phones in terms of core operating structure similarity, if there is non hardware based similarity should not.

Of course, as it isn't the case today (and until things change), the easy solution is to always buy phones from legal importers/resellers in the country which' languages you want to have on the phone.
Is there any global mobile phone manufacturer that allows you to change languages at-will (to whatever language you wish)?

no man no dont take stress or devalue the name of nokia. if you got hurt i confess and pardon me.
but consider my education level and re read my post to estimate it.
global mobile manufacturer what a joke nothing is global even word global is of english and english is not a global language.
each and every country where it is used as mother language has its varients too.
simply i suggested the way of creativity in terms of pioneer.
pioneer, i dont consider that it does not make sense for my opinion and post.
what the nokia was and what is nokia now?
every manufacturer makes his own ways and orders to licensiate itself as these are patented.
as such what is trend? an action which is accepted by a majority though it is presented by a man of nothing logical or do nothing.
i suggested a trend or standard for workout not for comment out without considering the sense of creativity.
nothing is global even symbian, s60 but all these are accepted in parts of globe as all these contain such features.
series 60 and symbian are the companies decisions for consumers not the consumer in self requiring all these but in terms of ease.
i represented my PhD fellows opinions containing myself but re consider my terms to words PIONEER, TREND MAKER which is GLOBAL.

This program has to read a txt file to create Food objects which will consist of a food name, a serving size, and a number of calories. A text file is read which contains the calories contained in specific food items. From this data, an array of Food objects will be created and used to populate a combo box for user selection. The Food objects will also be used in calculating the balance calories for a given user on a given day.
User input will be used to create User objects which will be user name, age, gender, height, weight, and Food Diary objects (composition). The Food Diary objects will consist of Date (composition), Food object (composition), number of servings, and a balance. Food Diary objects will consist of the activity on any given day (see text area in sample output screen below). All User objects are saved to a file as objects and can be retrieved on subsequent runs of the program.
The program will calculate the number of calories the user is allowed per day to maintain the users current weight (see below for formula to use for this).
