"N" Express not resetting, solid amber, not responding via ethernet

I understand there is alot of problems, etc with setting up the Airport Express Wireless N - but I can't seem to find anything like what I'm seeing happening at the moment. My Airport Express was bought in late 2008 and used on-and-off since then (mainly due to it's temperamental configuration), but I finally got it working on my home wireless (Wireless N with a DLink router) and AirPlay. Worked fine for a week straight, then I moved it to a different hi-fi. AirPort seems happy with green light, but not showing up on the Network. Tried resetting it, (soft/hard and factory) but keeps ending up a solid amber light that on the odd occasion blinks and turns to green for a second. Doesn't show up on Airport Utility via Wifi or ethernet (my iMac even thinks the cable is disconnected).
So, I'm at the end of teather. Tried resetting it all ways to no avail - any suggestions?
Thank you for your time

Unfortunately, the solid amber light with an occasional green blink is almost always an indication that there has been an internal component failure inside the Express and it will need to be replaced.
It sounds like you have done all the "hard reset" and "factory default resets", so there is really nothing else that you can do unless you are very handy will small tools and electronic repairs.
It's a wild longshot, but if you carefully saw the AirPort Express case in half along the seams, you can check for something obvious like a broken wire or connector that has come loose. It's a lot of work...and not easy, but might be worth a shot.

  • Printer connected to Airport Express not responding

I know I've done something wrong, but can't work out what it is. I went overseas for 2 weeks so turned off my computer, printer, Airport Express - at the wall. When I came back I turned everything back on but now my printer does not respond when I send it printing jobs. It has worked flawlessly in the past but I can't for the life of me, work out why it won't work now. I'm using a Brother Mono Laser printer Model HL-1450 - I even downloaded the latest driver from the Brother website but that makes no difference. If I connect my printer directly to my iMac - it works like a charm. However, when connected via USB to the Airport Express nothing happens. I checked out the Mac help 'connecting a USB printer to AirPort base station but it says '5. In the Printer pop-up Menu, choose Bonjour and then choose your printer'. Bonjour doesn't show up, my Printer does, but nothing happens. The printer dialog box just shows the job spooling and it never gets past about 3 or 5%.
Any help gratefully received before I tear out all my hair.

  • Airport Express 802.11n - Solid amber light after initial setup

    Hi,
I got my refurbished Airport (from the official Mac Store) earlier this week.
It actually looked brand new, from the packaging to the flawless device itself.
I plugged it in and set it to act as a bridge, and after it had rebooted, Airport Utility could no longer find it.
As the title states, the light is solid amber. When it boots, the green light comes up for a split second before it turns amber.
I have tried countless times to do the factory default reset to no avail. The light blinks when i hold in the reset button, but other than that it seems completely dead.
I live in a share, without amin access to the router.

    Welcome to the discussions!
It sounds like you have tried to reset the device by holding in the reset button while it is plugged in until the amber light blinks quickly, correct?
    Try this instead:
    Power down the Express
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in while you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after approximately 10 seconds
This full hard reset will return the device to factory defaults so you can reconfigure it. If you still have issues after trying this a few time, you have a defective Express that should be exchanged.

  • Airport Express (not n) with ethernet hub and as wireless base

    Will Airport Express do this?
I've got a cable modem. It connects by ethernet to a hub. Airport Express (not n) connects to the hub by ethernet. My laptops (MacBook and HP 69xx WinXP Pro) connect to AX and internet just fine.
In that same hub, I want to connect a D-Link DNS323, which I wish to be made accessible to the wireless network provided by AX. Here's a sort-of diagram:
    cable ethernet
modem ---> hub <--- Airport Express <--- laptops, AppleTV, etc. by wireless
    ^

    |
    D-Link
    DNS 323
Can AX (old style, not n version) use its ethernet connector to both communicate with my cable modem and with other wired ethernet devices through my hub?
Thanks for helping. I tried searching for similar posts, but I failed to find an answer.

With only the hub, the NAS, and the express, you can't access both the internet and the NAS wirelessly at the same time. Here's why:
The AirPort Express has only one Ethernet port. That port can either act as a WAN port or a LAN port, but not both at the same time.
You need the Express to be connected to the internet. Unless you have another wireless router (Apple or otherwise), it will have to be connected through its Ethernet port. Therefore, the Ethernet port must act as a WAN port.
The NAS, on the other hand, is part of your network. For it to be connected, the port must act as a LAN port.
This means that the NAS can't be connected to the Express via Ethernet because then the port would need to act both as a LAN port and a WAN port, which it can't do.
This means you'll need an additional wireless router if you want to access both the internet and the NAS at the same time.
If you have another wireless router (it doesn't have to be an AirPort), I can help you configure it to work with your current network so that you can access the NAS.

  • Airport Express Not Responding

I've now done the routine of performing a factory default reset on one of my Airport Express base stations about six times today, and each time I only have partial success at best.
First, on performing the factory default reset, something good happens: the base station seems to be reset to it's out-of-box name and settings since I can see it in my Airport drop-down as Airport Network 5e08cf. That's good!
But wait... the AX base station won't stop blinking yellow.
Optimistically I press on to configure the base station with the AirPort Setup Assistant. I'm encouraged because at the end of the setup, it tells me that I've successfully set up the base station to join my existing network. Great!
No. Not great. The base station still will not stop blinking yellow.
Then total defeat... I try to configure the base station in Airport Admin Utility. It sees the base station with the name that I just gave it in AirPort Setup Assistant. But when I click configure, it eventually gives me the error "The AirPort Admin Utility was unable to read the configuration of the selected base station. An error occurred while reading the configuration".
So can anyone help me to get this fixed? This base station was working perfectly until recently.
    Many Thanks. -Pete

Make sure you do it correctly and connect to Apple network prior to configuring Airport Express.

  • AirPort Express not working with Ethernet

How is it possible, that my AirPort Express works only when my Mac Book Pro is WiFi connected to the network? As soon as I connect the Mac Book with Ethernet cable, iTunes doesn't find APX anymore. This is no Firewall issue, as I can ping and telnet to 3689 around in all directions. All software versions are updated.
    OS: 10.6.5
    iTunes: 10.1 (54)
APX: 7.4.2, connected to existing WiFi
Many thanks for your help, Stefan

I have the same issue.  Mine fixed itself for a bit and now it's broken again.  I'm thinking it's going to be intermittently broken.  I've tried turning both devices off and on again but that did not help.

  • HP LaserJet Pro m201dw suddenly not printing via ethernet (wired) network using Mac OS 10.10.1

    Hi,
My brand-new HP LaserJet Pro M201dw is suddenly not cooperating when I go to print using my Mac. I had it set up following the directions which closest matched my OS and it worked perfectly for one week; today suddenly it won't cooperate. The printer is seen on the network. I have deleted and re-installed it from my System Preferences several times. I have rebooted my computer. I cannot seem to get it to work. Even the HP Utility is having difficulty. The HP Utility is suddenly slow and often needs to be force-quit as it hangs when I navigate to other applications (web browser, etc.) while waiting for it to respond to clicks. Most often the HP Utility shows the printer in the status ara as "Device Status: Unknown" and "Supplies: Unknown" which it wasn't having issues with yesterday.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this device? Is there better documentation than the basic setup page here on HP? What about adjusting some setting in the printer web page (which I can access) - is the answer in there?
    Thank you.

  • HT3728 every time my iMac sleeps or restarts it loses the connection to airport express and i must reset and connect with router via ethernet cable.

Every time my imac sleeps or restarts it loses the wireless connection with my airport express (used for streaming music). I then have to disconnect the airport express from my stereo, bring it to my router, connect it to my router with ethernet cable and reset the wireless connection. Even with my airport express  in the same room as my router Airport Utility cannot find it until i plug in an ethernet cable, so i do not think this is an issue with my wireless network. Router is a newer netgear.

  • Epson stylus pro 3800 will not print via ethernet port

Recently I set up a sling box utilizing my Apple Extreme's singular ethernet port. In order to free up the port for the slingbox I removed the epson printer and directly connected it to my Imac through its ehternet port. I print all my photos from this Mac so i do not need the network accessibility. The Imac does not show the printer at all but does continue to communicate with the wireless usb printer, a Brother. The question i have is how can i get my Mac to recognize the Epson through the ethernet port?

As you probably have noticed this is way out of the range of my apple-knowledge:
Where can I find the coupps-folder?
And how can I reinstall them?
    The Printer Setup Repair says:
2 missing files/directories found during the verification process. They may be responsible for certain printing problems. Printer Setup Repair cannot replace these items. Please refer to the log file for a list of the missing files/directories. You may need to reinstall OS X to resolve your printing issues. Certain files and directories are deleted when using the Reset Printing System option. These files and directories, if required, will be recreated during normal printing.
I really don't want to reinstall OS X.
By the way, thank you very much for your help.

  • Solid amber flashes green once about every minute + even more problems

I have a problem with my airport express:
-Even after doing a factory reset my airport express has an solid amber light wich flashes green once about every minute.
    - Sometimes the LED light even goes off for a couple of seconds.
    - I can't find the airport express in the airport express utility, even when I directly connect a LAN cable it won't find it.
    - I also can't find the airport express wirelessly.
Please help me fixing this airport express.

    Lauren, welcome to the discussions!
Unfortunately, the symptoms you are describing likely indicate that your Express has an internal problem and may need to be replaced.
If you have not already done so, try a Factory Default Reset to see if that might help.
Power down the Express and wait a few minutes.
Then hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the device back in to power
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly. This normally takes about 5-10 seconds
See if that helps. If no luck, I'm afraid the Express has failed and will need to be replaced.

  • Solid Amber Light (LED) - out of nowhere.

I had a network running very well for a while, then all of a sudden, the main airport express gave a solid amber light, and now it won't reset (hard or soft).
    I had:
    - TW cable modem hooked up to
    - main airport express
    - second airport express picking up signal and sending out via ethernet to
    - router, splitting to
    - 2 desktops
all was running fine, now I can't get that main airport to stop with the amber light. I have tried unplugging and hard reset. I have not messed with firmware yet only because it took me a while to get that whole network together in the first place.
    suggestions/help?
    thanks,
    -A

If plugging an ethernet cable won't help, hard/factory reset won't too, then you need to:
1- Submit a feedback to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/airportexpress.html with explanation.
2- Call/Visit Apple to explain the problem hopefully they know the common issue that everyone's having these days and get you another one for free or even fix it.

  • Airport Extreme Base Station to Express via Ethernet?

I have both a new Extreme (n) and Express (n) and am trying to set up a network between two buildings. I have been successful with the wireless network, yet the wireless signal between buildings is not strong enough for streaming video. The current configuration is the Extreme in one building connected to the cable modem. This is where the strongest signal is found. The express is in the main house and the signal is much weaker.
My question: If I run an ethernet wire from one building to the next, can I connect these two Airport devices via ethernet to strengthen the signal? How would I configure this in the Airport Utility?
I made an attempt to plug the ethernet into both and the Utility stopped seeing either device and I lost the internet connection.
I may not understand the way these devices communicate with each other. If anyone can point me in the direction of a solution I would be grateful. My goal is to have a signal strength strong enough to stream Netflix videos in the house with the Express. I am thinking that if the Express is wired to the base station via ethernet then the wireless signal from the Express would be sufficient to stream wirelessly to a new Macbook... Possible?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

A couple of questions. First, at AirPort>Wireless>Wireless Mode should the selection be "Join a wireless network" or "Off"? I currently have Join a the wireless network selected.
For both base stations, Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network.
When I am at Internet>Internet Connection the screen is muted, which means I can't change anything. The two items on the page say "Connect Using: Wireless Network" and " "Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)" - as you mentioned. This is correct, right?
For both AirPorts, Connect Using = Ethernet; For the AEBSn, Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address; For the AXn, Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
The Extreme (connected to modem) and Express (ethernet cable will connect to port on Extreme) have different names. And each is configured to participate in the same network.
    Both would be correct.

  • HT3728 Time Capsule LED is solid Amber, will not show up in Airport Utility after any resets.  Ideas?

Went to update my TC after adding my AppleID to the "Back to Mac" menu and in the Airport Utility screen a meesage popped up saying "An error ocurred while reading the configuration" and the TC disappeared from the Airport Utility screen.  Now there is just a solid amber light.  Unplugging the unit for over a minute and then plugging it back in has the same result.  A soft reset does nothing, a hard reset does nothing, and a factory reset gets the amber light blinking but when I release the reset it goes back to solid amber.  None of these resets gets the TC to show up in the Airport Utility.
    I appreciate any help.  Thanks.
    Model: A1409 Time Capsule 2TB

The solid amber light is an indication that the TC cannot get out of startup mode, likely due to a power supply component failure.
Solid amber is not power supply.. it is a dead hard disk.. the TC cannot finish its boot if the hard drive is not working.
    Jeepaxle
If the TC is in warranty or you have applecare on any computer Apple should replace it..
Otherwise it is the poor WD green drive they now use..
Open the TC and replace it.
Sometimes a low level format will revive them.. but I never trust a drive again that died.. Look for a 2TB hitachi or Toshiba.. (same thing). Far better than WD green.

  • Airport express not working (flashing amber light)

I just bought an airport express and have spent days trying to set it up with my Cable modem. I use Time Warners roadrunner as my service provider and know that the cable modem is not the problem because the internet works fine when I hook my mac laptop directly up to the modem via ethernet cable. Originally when I first plugged in the airport express base station I only received the flashing amber light. I have tried unplugging the modem and plugging it back in multiple times, but I continuously get the flashing amber light on the airport base station. My modem however recognizes the airport and is flashing the light that signals that it is linked to a computer.
My computer recognizes the airport, I get a strong signal and the airport utility says that everything is ok but the light on the base station flashes amber and the Internet wont work. Originally I had it set to Connect Using: Ethernet and Configure TCP/IP: DHCP and the light flashed amber so I started messing around with the settings. I changed it to Configure TCP/IP: PPPoE but was not sure what my login and password would be so I used my account information for roadrunner and to my surprise the light stopped flashing amber and turned green. I thought my problem was miraculously solved but the Internet still wouldn’t work, it kept trying to connect to the PPOE server with no luck. I had never expected the wireless to work under the PPOE setting so I was very surprised that the light turned green rather than amber. This is very confusing to me so I put the configure setting back to Ethernet rather than PPPoE and the light started flashing amber again. I have put the airport back to its default settings many times and tried starting over, but I still get the amber light.
I have run out of things to try and do not know a whole lot about wireless Internet so any help would be useful. I know of other people that have set up their airport express with very little hassle and knowledge of computers, so I thought this was going to be an easy process, apparently I was very wrong.

Roadrunner's cable internet service uses DHCP and not PPPoE - so the first thing you need to do is change that configuration back to DHCP on your Airport Express.
Then unplug both the cable modem and Airport Express from power for a while - the longer the better. Try five minutes, and if that doesn't work then try all day or overnight. After you get tired waiting, plug the modem back into power and wait a minute. Then plug the Airport Express into power - and hopefully by now Roadrunner's connection will have been reset and the Airport Express will be able to establish a connection, get an IP address, and show you the solid green status light.
