N-Mon.kext was installed improperly

I have a MacBook Pro Late 2011 with Mountain Lion 10.8.2 - It's has been working fine until yesterday I got this message:
“/System/Library/Extensions/N-Mon.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update."
I don't know what may cause this problem, but I have been reading on the internet that this may be some issue from a app called VUZE. It's something rare, I have never used that application on my computer. I just download torrents via Transmission app.
So I wonder if it's correct to just erase a .kext or should I wait for a new update of OSX?

I submitted the above question, later finding that it has been answered by Buller already. No one need reply as Buller's answer seems to solve the problem for others, and I'll try that.

I get this message often when updating things. I have told Small Dog Computer where I buy my stuff, and they didn't have an answer. Thanks in advance.

Interesting ... thank you! Actually I had that external drive, Western Digital, a while back on my second last? or third last? laptop ... the external drive died with a slew of pictures I had carefully uploaded to it :-(

I've recently been cleaning up my machine after upgrading to leopard. I've fixed most issues but this is still a problem:
every time I start up, I get an error box with an orange triangle exclamation point and this message:
The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleACPILP C.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.
I was going to do a re-install, but since I've already upped to 10.5.1, it didn't give me the upgrade option, and I'm not sure I should try another way. Especially since this is the last of about 11 of these boxes which still appears, the rest of which I've been troubleshooting individually.
I did search my loepard install for the extension, and replaced the one in my system folder with the disk's version, but I still have the problem.
I don't know if this is causing any real trouble, but I do have one major problem to resolve, to which this one may be contributing, so I'd like to resolve this, or at least hear that it doesn't matter.
the big problem is that my Access Virus TI keyboard isn't recognized half the time and even its AU plug "virus Control" can't communicate with it.. even the software installer (during re-install) can't communicate with it!
But I'll post that elsewhere.
Please, if someone could help with the extension issue, I'd really appreciate it.

I have been trying to resolve an issue with my upgrade where I have to enter a password to do anything with the files on my desktop. I followed an apple procedure to reset my admin permission [which did not work], but now am getting the same message as you plus one for
/system/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/Appleyukon.k ext
When I track it down in the finder, the "IONetworkingFamily.kext is not a folder as far as I can see so cannot ft to the contents, etc.
What are these things? What happens if they are not installed and how do I fix this since I do not want to reinstall either. And what is a "Kext"?

You wrote that I should check out "Please see - AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext error on installing iTunes update" and I did so.
There I found your reply of 9/1014 7:06 PM to j'ski stating: "There is a larger thread here which you may want to follow - system extension cannot be used AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext ."
And an earlier Post by Greg Earle of 9/10/14 5:57 PM stating: " You would have been better off doing open /System/Library/Extensions and then finding the AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext kernel extension icon in the Finder window that came up and moving it to the Trash."
And a subsequent Post on 9/15/14 at 2:59 PM by Rob Maurer stating: "This method worked perfectly for me. I am on a Mac Pro running Mountain Lion. Dragged the kext file to trash (I use EasyFind. Found the file, Revealed in Finder, dragged to Trash, entered admin password when requested). Downloaded iTunes 11.4 from the website. Installed from that download. I'm still with you, just having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that you reinstalled OS X, which is like shooting a mosquito with a cruise missile, yet the problem remains.

Admittedly there is not much to it, but it should have eradicated the problem.
I would guess that the 17 "hp_" messages have something to do with Hewlett-Packard and in fact I do use an HP printer with the computer. I uninstalled the printer software and reinstalled it. The printer seems to work fine, but the kernel extension error messages still keep appearing. I'm inclined just to delete these 17 kernel extensions and then, if the printer doesn't work correctly, unintall and reinstall the printer software again. Sound sensible?
It certainly does. The only thing I can think of is that the OS reinstallation did not recognize those kernel extensions and left them untouched, AND the HP uninstaller did not remove them, AND the HP installer did not perform correctly. Having suffered through several HP botched software attempts I tend to believe that remains a posssibility.
If you are so inclined, I would remove the troublesome .kext files as you say, then reboot. Be prepared for the printer to stop working, but once you remove them try the printer again anyway. The vast majority of printers do not require any specific downloads since their drivers are already built into OS X.
As a last resort try reinstalling OS X again (I know...) and run Software Update to bring everything up to date. Apple released some new printer drivers a few weeks ago.
Finally, if this doesn't work post the same question as a new topic since I am out of ideas. A new topic will get more attention than unresolved questions with responses.

Installing the software results in non funclltioning or poorly function printer on both of our macs. Each computer has a printer. I get a message that "System Extension cannot be used. An Apple repair shop 60 mi. away didn't seem to have much problem getting one computer fixed today. I reinstalled the software and the printer printed today. I started the set up with a cable connection and then the printer wanted to go wireless. It printed but only did one side of a page. I haven't had the printer for very many months and it did do two sided printing and everything else. I think the problem may have started after an Apple software update. I cannot delete the damaged software. It is protected from my messing up the software.
This computer will go to the shop Thursday morning if I can't fix it before that.

click the Finder icon, then click the Go menu and select Computer.
Select your active boot volume, will usually appear as Macintosh-HD.
Browse to System > Library/Extensions and type hpPlugininit into the search bar, select to search in the Exxtensions folder and move the hpPlugininit.kext file to the trash.
Empty the trash, then reinstall the latest driver below:

Note: Be sure to check the HP Scan option to get full functionality.

That is a third-party extension, so I would reinstall that software unless you wish to try repairing the permissions on the extension yourself using the Terminal.

hey guys just got off the phone and solved my problem. i have a 6+ and my mac is a core duo macbook from 2006 on snow leopard.
this is what i did:
download and install a clean copy of 11.4 (even if its already installed, run the installer again)
click the following link to empty your syncing cache. following the instructions for your operating system
restart itunes and voila!

When installing iPhoto 9.2.1 software update, I got this pop up.
"The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update."
Is this a minor matter that can be ignored? Any suggestions on what I should do?

The faster (and way more recommended) way to do this is to run a permissions repair from disk utility.
Open Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility -> Click on Macintosh HD -> then in the right pane there is a "Repair Disk Permissions" button click on this. It should repair all permissions to their proper settings.
Another option is to manually repair them on this kext only. This involves opening Terminal and running the following commands.
sudo chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext
sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext
Otherwise if you don't have any firewire devices it doesn't really matter.
