N100 - External HD display works only max 1680 instead of 1920!

Hi,
I have lenovo N100 (0768-BPG) with Intel 945, which supports over 1920x1080 over VGA.
I have the most updated drivers for Bios and Viedo card.
The max resulotion I can set is something like 1680x900 instead of 1920x1080 (1080p).
I've understood that this resulotion is forbidden in the bios and there is a little trick (editing somehow an inf file)  that suppose to work.
If anyone know how - I'll glad to know.
My external monitor is Benq E2200HD. Here it's raw info:

  • USB 3.0 External hard drive working only as USB 2.0

    Hello all.
I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012 (specs below) which has two USB 3.0 ports. I have a Kingston USB 3.0 stick and a Toshiba 1TB USB 3.0 external hard drive. With Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks, both stick and hard drive worked fine, but since I updated to OS X 10.10 Yosemite, both work as USB 2.0 devices, with slow transfer speed and, in the case of the hard drive, it has a blue/white LED that indicates the mode (blue = USB 3.0 / white = USB 2.0) and it only lights up with white color.
It's not a device problem, because both work on Windows 8.x machines. I was guessing that it was some kind of firmware or motherboard's usb driver problem but I looked for firmware updates and found nothing.
Is anyone having issues with USB 3.0 ports? Can you help me with this? Any advice would help.
Thanks a lot for your patience and help.

    Hi jesusbet,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the USB 3 ports on your MacBook Pro are not operating at the expected speed.
The first troubleshooting step I'd suggest in this case is to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your MacBook Pro using these instructions:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    From:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If the symptom continues, you can also reset the PRAM:
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
These two hardware resets can resolve many unexpected behaviors that affect hardware on a Mac.
    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • External HD stoped working only in windows

    Hello.
One of my external HDs stoped being reconized by windows but it works fine on Mac OS.. When i turn it on it says "USB devise not reconized"
i tryed Control panel-Computer Managent-Disk management but it does not show up.
I already tryed formating the the HD in mac OS, and Reinstalling windows and that did not work.
    Can anyone help??

OS X can read and format an NTFS drive, but an NTFS drive is read-only to the Mac and OS X. If you want the drive to be usable on both platforms then the drive must be formatted FAT32 and will be subject to FAT32 limitations.

  • Display works only in safe boot

I am using a Mac Mini connected to a Sharp Aquos LC-37GX4W TV.
Last night I was in the display preference pane and unchecked the overscan button. The display immediately turned into a bunch of lines similar to those you see when a satellite signal is being lost. I did turned off the computer and rebooted. Everything looks good until the computer gets to the login screen, when the image immediately turns into the hundredes of lines I mentioned.
However, if I do a safeboot, the computer works without problems and I get a clear and crisp image on the TV.
Does anybody know how I can fix this so that I can use my monitor in normal boot? Is there a file that stores the monitor's information so that I can edit it or delete it?
Can I force the computer to scan for the monitor resoultion during startup?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

If you start the mini in Safe mode, then while in Safe mode go into Displays Preferences and make a change in the resolution from whatever one it started up with to another, that choice you make should become the new choice under a normal start. So that should make the mini forget about using that current timing it uses that results in a scrambled screen.

  • External VGA monitors are not working only with my Macbook Pro 2012mid version

    Hi all,
I have a macbook pro 13' 2012mid version, running the latest version of Mavericks, 10.9.2. If I connect my macbook to any extrernal VGA monitor (I have tried 4 different monitors), then the external display is detected in system preferences, but the monitor is showing only black screen (no signal). I am 100% sure, that my minidisplay port, the cable and the monitors are working properly, cause if I boot the same macbook from bootcamp win7 partition, then external monitors are working well.
I have also tried the same miniDP VGA with an older macbook pro (I think it is a model from year 2011, but also running Mavericks 10.9.2) on the same displays and the monitors are working fine. So the problem must be with in my OS X.
A have also tried some things, that I found on the net, like booting with the plugged in monitors in safe mode, reseting pram, I tried different settings for the external monitor in the system preferences (resolution, refresh rate...) but nothing helped. External monitor stayed recognized in system preferences, but with black screen and no signal.

Your post is incredibly hard to read, font is way to small.
If you used Boot Camp Assistant to create a partition to install Windows to you need a REAL Windows 7 or 8 install media and license key and you have to actually install Windows on your Mac. Boot camp is only for creating a partition to install Windows and starting the Windows install from REAL Windows install media.
That Windows install media has to be a DVD disc, if your Mac has a built in DVD drive (Apple does not allow Windows to be install any other way on Mac computers that originally come with a built in DVD drive), or from a USB stick with the actual Windows install files on it (Not an ISO of the Windows install files).
So the question is did you install Windows on your Mac? It doesn't look like it from the Option key boot and the list of available Boot Devices you posted.

  • LG IPS display with HDMI plugged to Macbook Pro worked only once

    Hi!
    I bought this display (http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-IPS237L-BN-led-monitor).
I plugged it to my Macbook Pro 13 with Mac OS X Mountain Lion updated to the latest version using a HDMI cable and a HDMI to Mini Displayport conversor. It didn't work the first time, but after searching in the forums i tried deleting the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist and it worked! Later on my Mac ran out of baterry and shutdown. I turned it on again but since then, i haven't been able to get the display working. It just says "no signal", and i can see it gets recognized in someway by Mac OS because when i plug it or turn it on the laptop screen goes blue, but then nothing happens and i can't find the display under System Preferences > Displays.
    I have tried the following:
    - Deleting all the files related to com.apple.windowserver.plist (including those under ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost)
    - Delete also those files in single user mode and also in verbose mode.
    - Deleted Overrides files for displays (/System/Library/Displays/Overrides)
    - Restarted in Safe mode.
    - Deleted .GlobalPreferences files
    - Reset NVRAM and SMC
    - As a last resort i tried reinstalling Mac OS. That didn't work either.
I have tried those and a couple of things more that i can't rememeber, but at this point i'm clueless. I guess my Mac is caching something related to the display and that's why it doesn't work. It's not certainly a cable or device problem since i already could make it work once.
Any ideas what could i be missing? I'm pretty sad i can't use my new display! Any help appreciated!

It was the **** cable. As it worked once, i never cared to test with another one. As soon as i did, it worked. So many wasted hours but pretty happy now.

  • 23" Display just gave up working, only some weeks in use

I phoned the helpline twice, but had to go through all these questions I can't answer as a layman. On top of this I was disconnected twice. What can I do to have it picked up for a replacement or for being checked here in the office?
The screen belongs to my colleague, and he's not available for 3 months. But he wants me to solve the problem.

If the display has only been in use for a couple of weeks it will still be covered by the standard 90 day Apple support. They are certainly the people to talk to. You will need to get the purchase details from your colleague and also any details of extended cover he may have purchased.

  • External monitor stopped working after 10.6.7 update

I have a MacBook Pro, model identifier MacBookPro6,2 with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M.
When I updated last night from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 I stopped being able to use my Dell S2409W external monitor.
I have tried resetting the pram, resetting the SMC, booting with extensions off.
When I plug in the cable to the external monitor the Mac screen goes blue for about 0.5 second and re-appears but nothing displays on the external monitor; a second monitor is not listed in the Display preferences and the monitor reports that it is not receiving a signal.
I don't see anything in the system.log when I plug or unplug the monitor cable (I'm not sure if I should).
At random intervals while the external monitor cable is plugged in the screen goes blue for a half second and then re-appears.
The screen does not go blue if I wiggle or flex the monitor cable.

I see this in the windowserver.log after reboot, login with shift-key, and the external monitor connected.
There might be a clue here but I don't have anything to compare it to since I haven't collected these data when the external monitor was working.
I'd be curious to see the same data from the windowserver.log for somebody else with a MacBook Pro with an external monitor connected that does work.
You can view this log with the console application located: /Applications/Utilities/console.
If you are willing to share these data please reboot, and hold the shift-key down when logging in to disable extensions (thanks). If you look at the time just when the desktop appears when you end up looking at the windowserver.log you'll be able to see the windowserver starting up about 10 seconds prior to this time.

  • External 20" Display on the MacBook

    Hi!
I'm thinking about buying an external display for my MB, sadly a Cinema Display is not within budget.
I was looking at a Samsung 205BW with a reslution of 1680x1050, but somewhere I read it doesn't work on the MacBook connected through DVI. Is anyone using a non-Apple 20" display at that resolution, maybe even the Samsung? Does it work? Which displays work?
    Thanks,
    Lutz

    hi.
    I have a viewsonic 2235wm (22" 1680x1050 widescreen, native res)
my macbook is hooked up to it through a KVM switch via VGA.
it works fine on my PC (is detected and does proper res), but my macbook detects it as "display" and only does 1600x1200 (no other res offered)
any idea? if I hook it up straight to the monitor it does the same thing, so I know its not the switch... I'm thinking DVI is required to go above 1600?
    ---- EDIT ----
just read the manual (haha) and it says the max res of VGA adapter on macbook is 1600x1200!!!!! noooo!
now I have THIS problem: the mini-DVI to DVI adapter would work (with an adapter to change the VGA cable @ the KVM switch) BUT Apple is sneaky and moved one of the pins so that a standard VGA/DVI adapter won't work on their mini-DVI to DVI adapter... grrrrrreat.
so basically, thanks to apple being proprietary, I'll have to
    a) find an adapter to turn my mini-dvi-to-dvi-adapter into vga for the vga-based KVM switcch
    or
    b) buy a new KVM switch with DVI and use DVI cables for everything (ugh)
oh well, I was getting tired of this belkin flip POS anyway!

  • Mini DisplayPort stopped working only for DVI connection

I have been using my iMac with an external 22" Samsung display, using a MiniDP>DVI adapter. Yesterday I disconnected this configuration in order to connect the iMac to a 46" TV to watch a film, using a MiniDP>HDMI cable. Worked OK. When I reconnected the iMac to the 22" display using the same MiniDP>DVI adapter, the iMac wouldn't do the work anymore, as if I hadn't connected the MiniDP>DVI adapter at all.
I have already tried the following steps:
    1. Tested reconnecting the 46" TV and even the 22" external display using MiniDP>HDMI cable: it works (so it seems that the MiniDP port on the iMac is functional);
    2. Tested using the MiniDP>DVI adapter in a different iMac with the same 22" display, worked ok (so the problem is neither in the MiniDP>DVI adapter or the 22" display);
The only thing I can think of is that the MiniDP port broke in a way that it can only let HDMI signal out, but not DVI signal. Weird, isn't it? Anybody has any clue on a way to fix it without sending the iMac to tech support? Could it be a software/OS problem?
    Thanks in advance.
PS.: you may be asking yourself why won't I connect the iMac to the 22" display using the MiniDP>HDMI cable, since it works; the problem is, with HDMI the image looks crappy, the colors are washed out, fonts are hard to read. I have searched for this problem on the web and the Apple Support Communities, it seems to be a common complaint and without solution. So, in order to have a perfect image on my external display again, I must make it work through the DVI port.

  • MacPro 2013 will not show full display dimensions only 1080p

I own the "ASUS PB278Q 27-Inch WQHD LED-lit Professional Graphics Monitor" which has 2560x1440 WQHD resolution. When I use HDMI that works in full 1440 dimension quality, but when I switched to display port 1.2 using a wire from amazon "Accell B143B-003J UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Cable with Latch, White, 3.3-Feet" It only displays in 1080p max. Can anyone please help to explain why I can't acheive the full resolution of my displaying unless I use the HDMI wire? I switched to display port so I can plug in my TV to the HDMI port as a second display so I won't be able to go back to HDMI. Side note: No TV (second display) was not connected yet to affect any quality settings.
    Thanks!

What is the refresh rate that the monitor is using? The FirePro 500's and 700's appear to have a problem displaying at 60Hz @ 4K. Theres a Samsung 4K thread here that describes how to alter one of the system files to get the refresh up, but the highest I've been able to get mine and have a stable full picture is 50Hz. We I believe are at Apples mercy waiting on an updated plist to fix this problem.

  • Ultra dock + three external monitors not working

    Hardware:
    W540 + Ultra Dock (170W)
    2x 24" LCDs @ 1920X1200 (DVI only)
    1x 30" LCD @ 2560x1600 (DVI only)
1x Display Port to DVI Active Converter (for the 30" LCD)
What I want to have is four displays: W540 LCD + 3 external monitors as described above. However, I can only get two of the external displays to turn on regardless of how many chickens I sacrifice. Note: I've searched extensively to see if others have had this problem, which they obviously have, but none of the solutions worked.
I think the issue is the 'advanced' mode, but I already turned it on in the BIOS. The laptop LCD works correctly (2880x1620), the 30" LCD works correctly with the display port to DVI active adapter (2560x1600), and one of the 24" LCDs works correctly (1920x1200). However, the other 24" LCD isn't available in Windows as a detected display unless I start swapping cables, which will then enable it while disabling the other 24" LCD.
For reference, the connections are as follows:
    Laptop LCD (built-in)
30" LCD: DisplayPort to DVI (active); Ultra Dock DisplayPort 0
24" LCD number 1: DisplayPort to DVI cable (passive); Ultra Dock DisplayPort 1
24" LCD number 2: DVI to DVI; Ultra Dock DVI Port 0
It's my understanding that the K1100M discrete graphics card should be driving all three of the external displays, but that isn't the case right now. I see one 24" and the 30" displays in the Nvidia Control Panel and I see all three working monitors (including the laptop LCD) in botht he Nvidia Control Panel and the Windows Display area.
    Things I've tried:
Uninstalled + reinstalled Nvidia Quadro drivers
Uninstalled + reinstalled Intel 4600 drivers
    Enabled Advanced mode in BIOS
    Restarted 5,000 times
Swapped cables until my fingers started to bleed
Updated the firmware of the Ultra Dock (it was already fully updated)
According to this page, I should be able to connect six displays including the built-in LCD. When I first looked at it, I thought I could use both Ultra Dock DisplayPort ports as well as the Ultra Dock DVI port, but it's very unclear if that's actually the case. What does it mean by DP or HDMI and DP or DVI? Does that mean I can use both DisplayPorts (which I'm currently doing and it works) only? Does it mean I can use both DisplayPorts as well as HDMI and DVI? Does it mean if I want to use HDMI and DVI that I can't use either DisplayPort? Does it mean DVI and HDMI both share an output with one of the DisplayPorts so only one of each can be used at a time? TERRIBLE DOCUMENTATION.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this has been extremely frustrating. I have a feeing the solution is going to be a disappointment as well because it's probably going to involve buying yet another adapter and/or using the Mini-DP output on the laptop instead of, you know, actually being able to use the expensive Ultra Dock...
    [rant]
I have no idea how to tell if everything is working because the graphics card situation is extremely confusing. I didn't realize when I bought the laptop that the discrete card couldn't drive the laptop's built-in LCD, which is very annoying. Or, maybe that's not true, but the documentation is so confusing that I can't be sure either way. Also, and this really pissed me off, the Ultra Dock DVI connector can't drive a dual link display. What the hell??? Why was this not clearly annotated somewhere? I really hated needing to purchase a DisplayPort to DVI active adapter to make my brand new laptop dock work as advertised. UGH.
    [/rant]

    I'm struggling with a very similar problem. (Thinkpad W540, K2100, Ultradock 170W)
I am using 2 external monitors right now in bios display standard mode - it's the only way they work at all for me right now. I have tried uninstalling graphics drivers, enabling advanced mode, and restarting, but none of the external displays are detected. I've also tried updating the dock's firmware, but it doesn't seem to be updating (this may have already been updated).
    Current working setup:
    - 2 x 22" external LCDs connected to Ultradock via DP -> DVI cables
    - Laptop integrated LCD
Related but not quite as equally frustrating, the integrated LCD does not resume when waking the computer from a sleep state. Only a reboot brings the display back.
I'd like to connect another 24" display over HDMI, but don't have any confidence of it working since advanced mode is utterly worthless for me at the moment. I'm quite dissatisfied especially since I purchased an extended warranty and last time I called for support Lenovo tried to sell me an additional support plan claiming that software was not covered under my current warranty.

  • External monitor stopped working!!

My external monitor just stopped working today as soon as i upgraded to Mac OS 10.6.4 from 10.6.2.
When I unplug it and plug it back the screen goes blue very briefly but then nothing happens.
I tried the detect display button, I tried resetting the PRAM and nothing's working.
I really need to get that monitor to work. Help would be greatly appreciate.
    Thank you

Yep, have the same problem using a 3rd party cablesson mdp-hdmi adapter. Everything worked fine until quite recently. I have tried pretty much everything to fix it but nothing seems to work. I'm almost convinced it's an OS problem, as everything works fine when I boot into my windows bootcamp partition.
Apple, please get this sorted! I'm reluctant to shell out $35 only to find that I have the exact same problem with the official adapter. Though I probably will anyway because I urgently need to get my display working again.
