N1996

Couldn't find an authoritative link for this one, so just copied and pasted what I found posted on several Google hits I found on this subject.
A lot of people were looking for N1996 board drivers, thinking that N1996 is the model number for their MSI products, such as MSI motherboards, optical drives, VGA cards and etc.
Well, that is not the model number.
It signifies that the product may be legally sold in Australia. Now it requires EMC compliance must be marked with the C-tick logo and ACA supplier code number. Our ACA supplier code is N1996. The supplier is responsible for holding a Compliance Folder that contains compliant test reports and a Declaration of Conformity.
This is more about ACA supplier code. According to ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority), Supplier Code Number means the number issued to a person by ACA or ACMA upon application for registration to use the compliance marks (A-Tick or C-Tick).
So basically, ALL MSI mainboards will have this N1996 identifying mark on, signifying that the product can be legally sold in Australia. N1996 is NOT your mainboard model.
To identify your mainboard correctly, see this FAQ:

Well if you provide mainboard serial number we can findout that too,[or current BIOS version installed]
but for drivers only is not need to known. They all are using the same drivers.
/* We can exclude the last 2 marked with red */
So here are drivers for your board:

    thank you in advance

N1996 is neither a MB name or model number. It is a number issued to MSI for products that meet specifications for and sold in Australia.
MS-7680 is a basic model number and these are the model names that match that model number.
    H61M-P23 (B3)
    H61MU-E35 (B3)
    H67MA-E35 (B3)
We need to know which one because the 1st takes Atheros 8131 drivers and the other 2 take Realtek 8111E drivers.

  • Micro Star Motherboard model MS 7123 ( N1996 )

I was wondering  what the specs were on this mother board that I purchased in a Medion 4500 computer. Any information would be an asset.  MS 7123 , N1996

We only deal with retail boards here.
Since yours is a OEM board, MSI doesn't provide support for it. Promedion should do that.
Easiest way is open the case and C 4 urself, writing down de number on the southbridge wil help finding the specs 4 the chipset

  • 845 Ultra Ver.1 (N1996) Power Switch Pin & Led

    Hi to all,
I appreciate if u could help me regarding my main board problem. I bought this main board way back year 1997, if i’m not mistaken. My PC still running & work perfectly w/ OS windows 7 ultimate. Unfortunately my Power Supply spoilt & change w/ new one. My problem is,  i can’t find my Manual & i don’t where did i take out the power supply switch & power light on the main board, due to no caption on board. Is there any web site that I can down load? I really appreciate if could help me to identify where can i plug the power switch & led.
    Thanks & Cheers

Not too much info on which model 845 ultra you have as there are some OEM versions of that board
    also, but here MSIs manual:

  • N1996 IDE Port Problems

    Hello
This is the forth MSI board that I have encountered with the IDE slot problem.
The first two MBs would not accept an 80 gig hard drive the third and forth boards had similar problems, one was working then all of a sudden the CD stopped working. Windows XP would not see the drive. The second out of the last two boards, the same except two CD drives one regular and one CD-RW just stopped working. Again, the computer does not see the drives neither does XP. All the above drives work fine on another computer. I'm sorry that I don't have the processer info all I know is it is a P4 with 512meg of ram.
This seems to be an ongoing problem with these boards. I can see one board having a problem but 4 different boards with probably different date code or batch numbers. Also these boards are from different people's systems not from the same person, so this kind of eliminates user error.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello again
    Thanks for the reply.
It is not the supply since this problem has occured with four different computers. Also I have tried a different supply with this particular motherboard. As for the MB model number this all I have, this is what is marked on the board. I searched for this number and it is a good number. It is an older board with no support. The sad part of it is that the vender sold it to this person as a new board. Again, four MBs, four different computers, four compleatly different configurations, and the same problem with loss of a drive whether it is a hard drive or a CD it can not be reconized by the computer or will not install even though they work in another computer. MSI is the only MB I have had this problem with. I'm sorry that I can't give you anymore info on this system except for the memory (512mb /2700), the processor (P4-2.5?), hard drive (40gig), a  Dlink wireless lan card. and everything else is on board. This is not my computer or beleive me I would have more detail on it. It was built for a friend of mine and he knows less then I do about the system except the OS, which by the way is XP pro.
If this can't be resolved here or anywhere else in the next two days the MB as the others go to the garbage and I put something in that I know is reliable. I have been this route before with MSI and nothing could be resloved even with more information the what you gave as a sample. I am a Broadcast Enginner and I am very detail oriented, but when it comes to a computer problem I do not have the time to troubleshoot down to voltages and minor details of a system just get the thing working. There should be no reason why these MBs have the same type of problem, just stop working with the storage and media drives. Well here are the supply voltages anyway 5V rail (5.06) 12v rail (11.82) slightly low on the 12v but within specs. My computer full tower loaded 4 hd, 2 cd, tv card, 2 nics, 1 vid card, floppy, led display, 5 fans and a partridge in a pear tree, the 12v rail runs at 11.9.
Ok Im done not going to ramble on anymore. if the above info is not enough I'll go away and just buy a know MB that will work here.
    Thanks again for your time.

  • Motherboard dead after bios upgrade (ms 6195 - K7 pro ver:1 n1996)

    Hi,
as you can read in the topic i tried to flash the ms6195 with the flash utility and flash image i got from msi.
Afterwards the pc rebooted and hung (keyboard dead) on checking nvram. After a cold reboot i just get a blank screen.
Can i replace the bios chip and if so where could i get one?
    Thx,
    Jim

/f is for award flasher -- no such option for amiflash
seems the reason i can't flash the rom chip is because it's locked and the flasher uses the unlock procedure for the ms6191 which doesn't work
so  i need to manually fill in the rom chip(w29c020) and flash part(???) (chip set still gers detected amd 751/756)
I can't find the flash part number anywhere on the board so where can i find this (or how can i contact msi to ask for the flash part number)?

n1996 is not a board. It might be MS-7596 if you read that correctly. Clarify if one of these is your board: http://www.msi.com/service/search/?kw=MS-7596&type=product
Also clarify what happened and what you want to do.

  • No imformation about this motherboard available?

Hi Forum, my first post here,
I am diagnosing a fault with a MEDION PC MT6 computer (type: MT188) and I am trying to download a motherboard manual, but the MSI archive does not list this motherboard. It is a 2004 computer and written on the motherboard is MICROSTAR FC MS-6747 VER 1 N1996.
I have googled this and find quite a few others have the same problem. However one forum I searched on says that the serial no. for this motherboard has changed to:
MSI 650 GM-L. Does anyone know if this is true?
I have downloaded the manual for the 650 GM-L, but don't have the computer here yet to compare it. The computer won't load its BIOS at the moment, but the CPU fan is still running. If I have to fit a PSU, I will need to know if the motherboard supports full ATX or only micro.
The computer has a pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz processor and 512 Mb of RAM and 533 Mhz FSB and running 32 bit Windows XP.
Thank you in advance for any help.

I'm sorry, but we can only offer support for MSI retail products--not for OEMs.
    locked.

  • K8N Neo4 (MS-7125) USB, Mic, S/P Out, and LAN ports all non-functional

I'm hoping someone can give me a hand with this.  I'm not a novice when it comes to motherboards but this particular board is making me feel like it.
Ok, I've got a K8N-Neo4 MS-7125 model.  Athlon64 3700.  I have all the current drivers and ran the liveupdate to make sure.
The LAN port will light up, but the Device manager will not recognize it, nor will the LAN utility.
The board has 4 USB ports.  The top two are non-functional, the bottom two work.
The S\P OUT port has never worked, nor do I know how to engage it or find it on the device manager
The microphone....this one is fun.  Its like the microphone is stuck in a feedback loop.  Whatever comes through my speakers, is heard on the other end by other users.  I am not heard at all, although I can hear myself through my OWN speakers.  Even with the mic unplugged, people still can hear my speakers.  Imagine having your speakers plugged into the mic jack.  The only way to kill the feedback is to actually go into the sound manager and mute the whole mic system.
I can live without the LAN and USB ports, but it would be a HUGE help if someone can help me with the mic and S\P ports!!
    Thanks!!!

Ok, I'll do my best to remember everything
    Athlon64 3700 939socket
    XP Pro Service pack 2
    Rosewill case 400watts
    SonyDVDRW Drive (dual layer)
    Samsung DVD drive
    GEForce 7300 256DDR (PCI Express)
120GB Seagate 7200 RPM Harddrive  (IDE) Partioned two drives
    1x512DDR ram  PC3200 400mhz
As for the flavor of the NEO4 the only other numbers I know of, is on the board it says N1996 right below the processor.  Is that what you need?  Its a PCB V.3 board nvidia Nforce4.
    Speakers are standard cyber acoustic
    Logitech Mic/Headset combo
This particular case allows for hookups for headphones and mic in the front.  The case has jumpers in the back that allow you to gain access from the front (but you probably already know that).  I've always used the front MIC/Headset jack, and I have a splitter in the back for the headphones and that jumper.  In trying to resolve the issue, I tried every jack with the microphone (even the ones that I know are labeled as speakers).  I do get my own voice through MY speakers on the front jack AND the mobo jack.
Hopefully I got you enough info!
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • [RESOLVED]NF980-G65 Hang on windows 7 install. Unable to boot

    Hello,
I'm a bit at wit's end here.  My old non-MSI motherboard was failing and giving me loud beep errors, so I decided to replace it.  In doing so I was required to update basically the whole computer in order to keep up with tech trends and my new LCD monitor.
I bought an MSI NF980-G65, 4 gb ddr3 RAM, an ADM 64 250 dual core, and a Nvidia GTX 260.  After I installed the hardware, I was unable to access windows vista 32 on my old hard drive.  I assumed this was because of driver conflicts. Because I had no install discs (only upgrade/recovery discs) I was unable to boot from CD, so I purchased windows 7.  Regardless of which disc(32 or 64) I use when I set my boot sequence in BIOS to boot from the CD first, this is what happens:
The screen shows a white loading bar that says "Windows is loading"
The next screen shows "Starting Windows" with a small "microsoft corporation" logo below it.  It sometimes has a red pixel on the screen.
The next screen it flips to is all blank.  From there it does nothing, no matter how long I leave it.
I have tried booting with no graphics card(internal only)
I have tried booting with no HD attached.
I have tried booting with only one HD attached (of two I've done this both ways)
My HD's have been checked and they are fine
I have tried booting using another dvd rom drive
I have tried swapping IDE HD slots with that of the dvd.
the DVD does use a pci extension card because the sable is not long enough for the dvd player, but regardless of where that IDE cable is plugged in, it still hangs in the load screen and does not go anywhere.
I've seen this symptom mentioned, but not per this motherboard, it seems like a BIOS setting issue but I feel like I've tried them all (disable LAN etc).
If I try to boot to the old Vista 32 install, it says "starting windows" but the logo does not appear, and the progress bar does not fill.
If I try booting vista 32 in any safe mode the load hangs on a .sys file.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get this going in the right direction? This has become very frustrating.
    Thanks,
    Alex
*****[RESOLUTION]This issue has been resolved. I switched to a different motherboard (GIGABYTE) and everything worked out peachy.

What are your complete system specs?  Need the complete picture.  What ram and timings?  Tried 1 dimm in slot closest to cpu?
Since posting this I have tried formatting my Small drive listed above.  I was only able to erase the info using Killdisk.  The format from windows using my old Motherboard (Abit) would not work.  Last night I let the system try to install windows 7 all night, I had 2gb of ddr3 in 1 dimm slot closest to the cpu.  I connected only the above drive after it was whiped, no graphics card (limited on board graphics are on the motherboard) and the install still hung as usual.  Does Killdisk do some sort of improper format? I had assumed that it would erase all data to provide a clean slate.  But I don't even thing a HD is required in order to boot up to the main setup screen?
Do I have voodoo in my machine?

  • What version of 6309 do I have?
