  • External Monitor in Target Display Mode Won't Wake Up

I'm using 2 imac 27' and one is simply used as an external display.  When I wake up the computer from sleep, it works on the main monitor, however the external display still has a black screen.  I have to unplug the external monitor to get it to wake up.  Is there anyway to fix this?  I tried unplugging thunderbolt and replugging it in which worked the first time, but same issue again not waking up.

Same issue here, I'm using a macbook pro retina and connecting to a 27 inch imac via thunderbolt and target display mode.
I also have a 27 inch thunderbolt display hooked up via tbolt cable as well.
Whenever the displays goto sleep, the iMac does not wake up with the other screens. My setup knows the iMac is part of the displays, it doesn't act like there are only 2 screens available.
If I press the target display mode shortcut (command + f2) then the imac screen turns on, but now its left target display mode (so it clearly is in target display mode, but does not receive the command to turn on display or ignores it). Hitting hte shortcut again now switches back.
I have not tried just the mbpr + imac as target display mode, but based on your post it still wouldn't wake up if it was the only machine connected.
I've found that when I come back to my computer, i just hit command +f2 on the imac, which wakes it up and jumps to its screen, t hen i hit command +f2 again, and now I wake the mbpr from sleep so it doesn't have to go from 2 screens to 3 screens.

  • Blue and red are reversed on external monitor in ppt presentation mode only

    Hi all,
I have a mid-2012 macbook pro and I'm running OS X 10.9.5  Sorry but the problem's a bit complicated so the description is a bit long.
After I upgraded to maverick I started having a problem at work. I am a university professor who uses my laptop to project ppt lectures onto an external monitor.  I have never had a problem with it.  I am not sure that the problem is related to maverick but it was around that time that it began to occur.
The problem is when I project my display onto the screen before I switch into the presentation mode all the colors on the external monitor are fine, when I switch to the presentation mode on ppt (14.4.5) reds are blues and blues are reds (for most but not all, weird enough) on the external monitor, and blue strawberries are really unappealing.  It is not limited to one projector on campus, I've bothered our IT guys to death about it and they've checked the monitors (not the monitors) and they worked trying to fix my problem but they are flummoxed, I've called microsoft about it and stumped them (they refunded my service fee because they couldn't solve the problem).  My IT guys did find one work around where I changed the settings for displays in ppt from presenter view to mirror show and that worked but it created other problems in that I couldn't advance my slides easily (for each and every slide advance, I had to "pretend" to "end show" after I'd advanced and then it would advance...) so that's not a viable option either. I opened the ppt presentation in keynote and still get the same color reversal happening.  This leads me to think that it may be a maverick problem?  But I don't know.  Now my semester is gearing up and I'd love for the lovely Apple community experts to chime in and give ideas on how to solve this conundrum! I'd be so very grateful!

Either an update to 10.7.4 or a restart with the computer closed the entire time seems to have solved the problem. Not sure which.

  • MacBook will not display on external monitor in clamshell mode

    System information:
    13 in. MacBook (2.4Ghz Intel 2-Core)
    10.6.7
External Display connected with Apple DisplayPort VGA adapter
    Apple Wireless Keyboard
Generic wireless mouse that connects to a USB stick plugged into the MacBook
This is dirving me nuts because it was working perfectly until about 2 weeks ago. I was following the pocess outlined here. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
    Here is what happens now:
MacBook display and external monitor are in mirroring mode. All devices are powered on and plugged in.
Close MacBook lid. MacBook goes to sleep. Blinking LED.
Hit spacebar on the Apple Bluetooth keyboard. The LED changes to steady on. However, the external display never shows the desktop. I've tried Command-F1... nothing.
If I open the lid again... the MacBook goes back to sleep.
I then have to pull out the DisplayPort VGA adapter to wake the MacBook up again.

You could try resetting the SMC and see if that helps.

  • Windows 8 Bootcamp Does Not Recognize External Monitor

So, my Bootcamp of Windows 8 does not recognize my external monitor when I try to plug it in. I have read that the startup must recognize the monitor during the boot process. However, I have already done this and my external monitor remains in sleep mode. My drivers are all up to date with this bootcamp and I work on programming a lot so I need a solution for this issue because going back and forth between windows of the internet and my code is not ideal for me and wastes too much time. The external monitor works when I run my OS X, just not on Windows 8. If anyone could point me in the direction of how to solve this issue, it would be greatfully appreciated.

They're downloadable. But I'm going to create a system restore point in case something happens.
The below discussion had a similar issue but with Windows 7

  • 2 external Monitors with Macbook air

I would like to use my Macbook Air in clamshell mode and use two external monitors in extended desktop mode. Are there any adapters that would work for this?
    Thanks for your help!

Quick update, I downloaded the mostt recent drivers for the Sewell adapter and that seemed to work.  Which is strange because I thought i had done this previously.
None the less it looks like we are good to go now.

  • Screen sleeps during Media playback (With external monitor connected)

    Here's a weird one...
With no external screen connected to my T410 I can watch the BBC iPlayer without the screen 'sleeping' after 5 minutes, which is perfect..... as I don't want the screen dimming and then going into power save mode while watching anything.
However when I connect an external monitor, in Extended desktop mode, whenever I watch the iPlayer the screens shut down after 5 minutes.
Im sure there's a setting but just cannot find it.
    Any help appreciated

Has anyone experimented with tip 2 (active corners)?  Perhaps it still works.

  • Boot Camp and External monitor

I bought a Dell U2410 monitor and connecting it with my 13 inch MacBook by HDMI connector. I don't know how to make the external display work with my computer in BootCamp or in Windows mode. But I don't know how to start the external monitor when I am using BootCamp. What is the procedure to make the external monitor work in BootCamp mode? Is it necessary to have an additional keyboard? Isn't there any way to use Macbook's own keyboard while using the external monitor?

Well, after some testing, the official boot camp drivers work better than the ones I mentioned above. They are also newer (167.69 or some such). I also get over 4000 3dMarks with them, so for now that's what I'll be using. Checking some other threads here, it seems in Vista that 167.62 might work with external monitors. For now I'll stick with XP though.
If anyone has any longer term solutions to this problem that are better than playing driver roulette, I'd certainly appreciate hearing them!

  • MBP sleep while connected to external monitor

I couldn't find the answer to this anywhere: when I have the MBP connected to an external monitor in closed lid mode, is it ok to keep my screen saver/sleep settings, i.e. it'll sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity? Will it wake up as it normally would tapping any external keyboard key?

Yes, that's fine. Once you are in clamshell mode, letting it go to sleep, then pressing a key on the external keyboard will wake it up in clamshell mode again. You won't leave clamshell mode until you disconnect the external display.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can I get mirrored displays on my external monitors?

So I've got a small recording studio and I just got two monitors for free and want to get them working with my Macbook Pro. I know that if I want 3 independent screens, I'll have to get an external box like the Diamond BVU195. So in lieu of doing that, I thought I'd just get a VGA splitter (run into a VGA to mini adaptor into the macbook), so both of the monitors would display the same thing (There's two seats in the studio, that way both people could easily look at the same thing). Is this possible? I've been told it is, but I can't get it to work. When I plug both monitors into the splitter, the left one doesn't flinch, and the right one goes black and gives me an error "Out of range of signal. Cannot display this video mode. Change computer display input to 1600x1200 @ 60 Hz". Neither 1600x1200 nor 60 Hz are valid options for me to change to, and clicking the mirroring option in the display settings only makes the right screen and my macbook screen identical. I'd like the macbook screen independent of the two external screens. Any ideas?

No, no 15" MBP screen is capable of 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200 resolution. To get higher resolution on your external monitor than on your built-in display, put the external monitor into Extended Desktop mode instead of Mirrored mode. Then you can set their resolutions separately and use each at its maximum resolution. To toggle between E.D. and Mirrored, press Command + F1.

  • ITunes changes external monitor resolution (permanently!)

    OS X 10.6.8
    MBP 2010
External Monitor NEC 2690WUXI (1900x1200), DVI via original Apple MiniDP to DVI port
Since last night, whenever I start iTunes, the external monitor goes into 720p mode and I need to delete various plists, clear caches (OnyX), turn off, reset SMC and PRAM etc in order to have the option to get 1900x1200 resolution again. Then the moment I run iTunes, the monitor settings are lost and it is treated like a 'TV' again.
Please help, this is $#"$#" driving me insane, that my expensive, pro level, color corrected monitor is not being detected correctly anymore (it has worked for 24 months)

This is driving me absolutely fuc****g insane.
My double monitors are switching back and forth, the resolution is changing, they are flickering on and off, sometimes they are going off totally and I cant get anything back on the screen without shutting the entire computer down.
If this is caused by i-tunes (which I think it is since the problem started on the date that I updated the program), then it is an ABSOLUTE OUTRAGE. You should write individual apology letters to every single one of your users who you have made undergo this time waste and mind screwing.

  • T540P External Monitors

    Hi,
This question is about the Lenovo T540P laptop (with HD Graphics 4600 ).
    1. I would like to know if its possible to connect two external monitors to the laptop (using mini Display Port and vga ports together) - resulting in 3 active screens (laptop screen + 2 external monitors) while using Extend Mode ?
    2. What is the max resolution's for the mini DP and VGA ports for external monitors?
I've search your forums and looked up using Google but i couldn't find any answers
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Here's what the tabook has to say:
Intel HD Graphics 4600 in processor only, or Intel HD Graphics 4600 in processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M, PCI Express x8, 1GB memory, NVIDIA Optimus technology; supports external analog monitor via VGA and digital monitor via Mini DisplayPort; supports three independent displays; Max resolution: 1920x1200@60Hz (VGA); 3840x2160@60Hz (DP via mDP cable)
I don't have a similar machine so I can't verify beyond what I read here.

  • T61 external monitor permenantly in sleeping mode

    Greetings,
I want to run an external monitor with my T61 for desktop extention.  It was working fine, until I once booted up my PC before having switched on the external monitor.  Since that day I have never been able to display anything on the monitor.  It is just showing black, and the power button light is just flashing, which I assume means sleeping/power saving mode.
I tried changing things on the BIOS, did not work. I even bought a minidocking station now, hoping that the new VGA-out would deliver results.  It also does not work.
I cannot believe the Thinkpad cannot cope with an external monitor not being on when the Thinkpad starts up.  How can I fix this?
It does not seem to be the VGA port, since the docking station option also does not work, right?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Henning

Go into your display property, by right clicking your desktop, then select your second monitor and then tick the extend desktop box.
