N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC Stability Issues

Hello! I've recently purchased an MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC and I'm having the much talked about stability issues (CTD, black screens etc.). From what I've read it seems like the best solution is to tweak the voltage in Afterburner until you find a stable solution and then after thorough testing, request a custom BIOS flash.
Is this the best way to go? I'm presently at work so I can't actually get started right away  but I'd like to have a game plan in hand for when I get home tonight. Currently my card clock settings should be what they were out of the box although I've also read that some cards didn't come over clocked so what it says on the box might not be exactly what it's running at. I can look up the various card details this evening if it's necessary.
Also I'm not super concerned if I had to down clock or if the card didn't come over clocked. I just want to get it running stably

As per the posting rules:
CPU: Intel Core i7 950 Quad Core Processor LGA1366 3.06GHZ Bloomfield 8MB LGA1366 4.8GT/S
Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D-E X58 ATX LGA1366 3PCI-E16 PCI-E1 2PCI CrossFire SLI USB3.0 SATA 6GB/S Motherboard
Memory: Corsair XMS3 6GB worth
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 580 Twin Frozr II OC 800MHZ 1536MB GDDR5
Primary Hard Drive: Corsair Force Series 120GB 2.5IN SATA2 Solid State Disk
Power Supply: Corsair TX850W 850W CMPSU-850TX 12V 70A 24PIN ATX
OS: Windows 7 64 Bit
Nothing is overclocked.
To answer your question about the PSU, while I'm not at home to actually visually inspect the unit, I believe there are 70 Amps on the 12 volt rail.

  • 570 GTX Twin Frozr II OC - Stability issues with newest drivers

    Hi there,
Been noticing lately that i've come across a nasty 280.26 Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding issue with my 570 SLI.
Some people running the 280.26 drivers have also reported, while others have said increasing voltage has fixed their problem.
Could I get some support in finding out how/what to set my voltages too?
The cards are 570 GTX Twin Frozr II OCs. I did get a bios update earlier in the year after some problems, they were clocked at the wrong speed. (786mh instead of 750mhz)
GPU-Z shows im running bios 70.10.17.00.03
    Is there a newer one?
    Thanks

You say the voltage range is upto 1.25mv , but how can a game be unstable but not make use of the 1.25mV barrier? Who is responsible for using the extra voltage when required?
People state they are increasing their mV to make some DX 11 games stable, but how?
If what your telling me, is that the cards are already set to use an increased voltage, why aren't they doing so?
As you can see, under load.... the higher mV range isn't used so the overclocks on the cards are pointless. The more games which come out that use DX11, the more problems you will get.
If it's down to drivers, someone needs to get onto nVidia from a corporate or business level because they won't respond to the end user, they just blame you guys for everything.

To add to that, I have to set the voltage to 1.00mv in Afterburner and to get Deus Ex HR more stable with the 280.26 drivers.
So what gives? Is it safe to update the bios to 1.00mv somehow?
Why are these problems only getting found out with the 280.26 drivers?
Where does the customer stand here? There's a direct problem with power handling by all parties involved.

  • Help with some strange artifacts - N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC

hi and firstly thanks for any assistance on my issue
I bought a new N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC card about a month ago and I have recently noticed some strange artifacts showing up.
Basically, I get light, almost pastel coloured blue and red 'ghosting' in 3d games (eg TF2, RO2), noticeable where the background is dark.  They are only noticeble when I move in the environment, but they leave short-lived (perhaps 500ms), thin outlines of the edge of the image on the screen.  The image might be the edge of a person graphic or the side of a wall for instance.  These artifacts don't show up in 2d screens and the machine I have is perfectly stable.
I've got the latest official nvidia driver (280), don't overclock the unit and have a corsair hx 750 ps.  I have read the faq and it suggests upgrading the bios, but considering it's only a few weeks old is there any other thing I should try first?
    cheers!

BIOS appear to be already latest version. It use different one.
Try to apply VGA reference clocks with Afterburner,

  • Noisy Fan on MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II

Hi Everyone, I am a new user to this forum so I am sorry if this is the wrong section to post this question.  I didn't see a section devoted to hardware issues.
The fan closest to the vent on my MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II is now making a low hum.  There is no obstruction so I think it is just the fan wearing itself out.  The card is about 1.5 year old.  I think the warranty is 2 years.  But I am not familiar with the process.  Is this covered under warranty? or is this considered normal wear and tear?
    Thanks for any help.

depend, if there is a physical damage, the warranty will be void.
can be performed paid repair instead

  • MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC BSOD crash under low load.

    MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V LE LGA 1155
    Windows 7 Professional 64
Basically my computer gets a BSOD whenever it's under low load.  Like just using an internet browser or word processing program.
Even if I just turn my computer on and leave it on the desktop it will just BSOD.
It never crashes when I am playing a video game.  In fact in order to keep my system running without a BSOD I run a game in the background so it won't crash when I browsing.
I took out the card and I have not had any issues.  So I thinking perhaps this might be a weird issue with the LucidLogix Virtu (Universal Switchable Graphics) - Auto Switching between Integrated Graphics and the Card.
    The bugcheck was: 0x0000001a (0x0000000000041790, 0xfffffa8004637a90, 0x000000000000ffff, 0x0000000000000000).

Which Nvidia drivers and which browser are you using ? >>Posting Guide<<
If you look on the NVidia Forum, you will see that this is quite a common complaint from numerous users and not particular to any specific manufacturers card. For some, drivers solve the issue, others a slight increase in core voltage solves the issue.
    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=215256&hl=browser crash&st=0
I can suggest that you use Afterburner and test the card at stock 772 MHz core to see if it does the same. Then test the card at its factory clock and increase the GPU core voltage by about 30 - 50 milli Amp. See if any of those solves your problem. What are your temps like ?

  • Poor scores when overclocking N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC GPU

    Hello everyone,
As the thread title says, I can't get any better stable score than the poor one I get with GPU's @stock settings on benchmarks when I try overclock my N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC GPU
Here is the score I get with @stock settings on KMARK BENCHMARK Preset: Extreme (1920X1080 fullscren) (60 sec) & FurMark Benchmark Preset: 1080 (60sec)
On KMARK BENCHMARK Preset: Extreme (1920X1080 fullscren) if I try to up the Core Clock speed, even to 810 MHz, I get a scrambled animation and +/- 14 FPS
I tried to up the Core Voltage, same probleme, animation is still scrambled, and there are the screens :
On KMARK BENCHMARK Preset: Normal (1280X720 fullscren) the animation is stable BUT the more I increase the Core Clock, the lower FPS I get
I was able to run the KMARK BENCHMARK Preset: Normal (1280X720 fullscren) (60 sec) with a Core Clock @1000 MHz Core (Core Voltage uped to 1150 Mv) before the driver crashed.
So, it was +/- stable with a Core Clock @990 MHz but with extremly low FPS ! Same for Furmark benchmark preset @720 (60 sec)
Already too many screens on this post won't add on top of it
My main concern is WHY do I get lower score / FPS when I try to OC the GPU? Should be the opposite, that's the purpose of OC stuff.
Can I get better score / FPS with this GPU ?
How do I proceed to OC my GPU ?
I run latest MSI AfterBurner tool, then rise the Core Clock of 10 MHz, then run a benchmark till driver crashes.
When the driver stop responding with the set Core Clock, I raise the Core Voltage of 10 mV steps till the test passes and so on
But again, I've never got any better score / FPS while uping the Core Clock / Core Voltage it's even worst
What are my sys specs ?
PSU : Cooler Master GX 650W
SSD1 : OCZ AGILITY III 60Go with W7 64 bits installed on it + drivers
SSD2 : OCZ VERTEX III 120Go for apps / games
HDD3 : WD 500 Go for storage etc.
Thanks for reading, I know it's a long post but I tried to be precise as possible to desribe my issue.
Note: I see on my Mainboard an ATX 6-PIN Power Connector (just above the PCI Express 2.0x1 slot) on which I didn't connect any cable.
I only connected the ATX 8-PIN Power Connector (on top left) and the ATX 24-PIN Power Connector
Maybe the GPU is under-powered ? (It's my first build, and I'm scared to plug a wire on it)
Note 2: OC GENIE button is on

    Read this link. http://www.techpowerup.com/134460/Disable-GeForce-GTX-580-Power-Throttling-using-GPU-Z.html
The higher you push the card the more restrictive it may become due to throttling.
Test your card in real games and see how it performs there.
Very interesting indeed, and very disappointing same time. I followed the instructions for GPU-Z and nothing has changed, scores/FPS remain the same.
Again, first build, first OCs, I must do something wrong, but anyway, for that price range, not being able to get better results is extremly disappointing.
Had lot of hope coming to post on here as I read many good support from all of you.
But looks like my case is desperate

  • SLI between N580 lightning and N580GTX TWIN FROZR III 15D5 POWER EDITION/OC

    Hi,
I am gonna upgrade to a 30 inch monitor and run a resolution beyond FullHD and this will require some potent GPU calculation power!
I already have a MSI N580GTX Lightning edition for a long time now but this card is nowhere to found anymore these days, however the N580GTX TWIN FROZR III 15D5 POWER EDITION/OC is the follow up card of the lightning extreme edition.
Will this SLI setup work between these 2 cards?
The Power edition look like a re-branded variant of the lightning, even the specs are the same (its down clocked a few steps though)
Please only advise if you are certain, it would be a waste of my money if this SLI will not work!
    With kind regards,
    Rick

Quote from: stigma on 06-May-12, 01:06:19
no its the first (non extreme) edition
Btw i edited my earlier post with links and more comment...
Aha, it should be not a problem to work together then.
    Quote
The only differences i can find is the P4 hardware (seperate fases) in the Lightning....so basicly they ARE the same but.....the Power edition would most likely overclock less then the lightning...?
Those are cards features, they are not related to SLI support

  • MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II SLi Game Crashing

I bought 2 of these cards in my new system and installed the 266.58 drivers and I haven't had them work properly yet as they always seem to crash somewhere between a few seconds and 5 minutes into a game. Games include Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Just Cause 2, Metro 2033 (DX11), AVP (DX11) and Dirt 2 (DX11). I have been tearing my hair out trying to work out what the problem is. I am guessing voltage but am not sure. I have downloaded Afterburner 2.1 Beta 7 and it seems to set the cards to 822,1645, 2138 and 1.05v. I also uninstalled the newest drivers and did drier sweeper and installed 263.09 and have exactly the same problem. Svet do you have any idea on what I could try ? Many thanks in advance...

Ok so I played JC2 for about an hour and Crysis Warhead for about 30 mins and no crashes. I did experience some lag - noticable in parts of Warhead where the frames dropped considerably. Neither game was butter smooth. I am gaming at 2560x1600 with everything to the max. So do you suggest I test the other card now or is there something I can do to improve the performance of this one ? Thanks again for all your help Svet.
That one is working well then.

  • N580GTX Twin Frozr II Instability

Hi Svet. I recently purchased a N580GTX Twin Frozr II but it was crashing in 3dmark 11 and stress tests like other people here. I RMA'd it and the replacement I received can run 3dmark fine, but it still gives a few errors in occt gpu test. But when I increase voltage from 1000 to 1013 in afterburner (using stock hardware oc setting) I don't get any errors at all. So, can you please provide me a bios for my card with voltage at 1013? My SN is 602-V255-01SB1101009362. Thanks

Hi Svet. I didn't actually apply the bios yet but I was having a look at it in Nibitor. My current bios (twin frozr) has 800mhz core speed and 4096 memory, but the one you sent me looks like 822/4276. Is this the right bios for me? It appears to have clock speeds from the other MSI GTX 580 OC (non twin frozr). Thanks.
Based on the SN yes its correct.

Yet once the driver is installed, bang, crash every time. The only time it did not crash was when it was updating windows, pre-SP1 on win7 ultimate. Which is some kind of wierd workaround the crash.
