N581 Laptop shuts down unexpectedly

I have an Ideapad N581 and it shuts down whenever it is running a large program, consistently with games such as SIMS.  I have it on a fan powered cooling pad to attempt to keep it cool.  It has slowed it a little as it was happening multiple times a week.  Has anyone else had this issue.  I have had many laptops and never had one that shuts down as frequently.  Additionally my battery won't charge fully and will only last about 20 minutes on battery power.  Don;t know if any of this is related.   Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Tim

Hi Tim,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your N581 Laptop is turning OFF frequently while playing bigger games and also the battery backup is not as expected. I suggest you to check the compatibility of the game once before playing it :
Game Compatibility check
Also for the Battery backup issue, I suggest you to install LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) below is the link to download the exact LEM for the computer and after installing you need to choose (Maximum Battery Life). By choosing the (Optimized Battery Health), the Battery charges only to 60% and stops charging the battery and then it take its power from the charger, so if you want to charge the battery to 100%, choose (Maximum Battery Life).
Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)
Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit)
Lenovo Power Management for Windows 8.1(32-bit, 64-bit)
Hope this helps!!!
Do post us back if the issue still persists.
Best Regards
Shiva Kumar

  • Project missing after laptop shuts down unexpectedly FCPX 10.1.1

    Hi guys!
Really hope someone can help me with this. Not gonna bore you with the heart ache of how much I put into this project because I am sure everyone will hate this situation and know I how I feel.
So here is what happen. I have the latest version of final cut. All the files is on an external hard drive. Was editing this project and didn't realise that the battery was about to run out. The laptop turn off mid edit. So I put everything in my bag to go home to charge it. When I got in to reopen the project there is literally nothing there. All my footage and everything is there. But not one project. Zero. Just the events.
Anyone know why? And how to fix this? Or can it not be fixed!
    Help in short!
    Thanks a lot in advance

You must know that in the current version the projects are inside the events. Take a good look to see if it really is not there.
Just in case it isn't, then try loading a backup of the library. FCP X backs up your libraries about every 15 minutes. Backups by default are stored in ~/Movies/Final Cut Pro Backups. Look in there for a folder with the name of your library and try loading the most recent backup.

    Hi,
In this case, the first thing to check: heat. Check all in/outlets - vents and keep it cooler.

  • Mac Shuts Down Unexpectedly in Logic Pro

I sure hope someone can help me with this. For the last few months my Mac Pro starting shutting down unexpectedly typically when running Logic but not limited to Logic. I have updated everything that I can find. I have taken the computer in the store for support twice where they said that after testing there was no issue with the power supply or the logic board and determined that the hardware was okay. The only thing he could tell me is that he thought that it might have to do with all of the dongles on my usb hub. Before the hub was being powered by the Mac so I got a new hub that is now self powered. I thought that it might have to do with the fact that I run Logic through a Digi 002 which I know a lot of people have had stability issues with. Yesterday I also updated my Ilok and Eliscencers and it seemed to work. Today after a solid day of no crashes it was back to the same old stuff. Out of nowhere while Logic is running the audio signal abruptly stops but not to silence it holds a buzzing sound of the last audio that was processed. Then a grey screen comes down and gives me the notice that I need  to restart my computer. Upon powering back up this is the notice that came up    Interval Since Last Panic Report:  82145 sec Panics Since Last Report:          6 Anonymous UUID: Mine has done this at least 3 times already. The laptop isn't connected to a power source, but it says there is still about 30% battery remaining. It has happened before with 50% and even 60%. It's not that it falls asleep, I would be in the middle of doing something and it just shuts off. I don't think it's overheating... It's a little warm, but the fan isn't 'working hard' or anything. It's not happening consistently, but it's happened enough times that it has made me concerned. Here's my battery info:

  • Shuts down unexpectedly in middle of working...

Yesterday, I was typing when my laptop just shut off.
I clicked the buttons and it was def. off.
That has never happened before.....but now it has happened 3 more times since then....usually after an hour or 2 of working.
I know this was a problem on the black/white models......and I tried to download the software update for it.....but it said it was not "for my computer."
I'm going to update all my software right now......
But I'm worried since I do work on my computer and can't have it shutting down unexpectedly.
    Is this a heating problem?
It used to make a loud fan noise when it was hot.....but it doesn't even make that sound before it shuts off. Doesn't feel too hot either?

  • Laptop shuts down........................

    Hi,
I have posted this before but didn't get many responses for help, so I am going to try again.
I have a HP laptop that runs XP Professional. Most every time that I open itunes to download music, or update to the latest version, itunes shuts down unexpectedly.
I have look on Microsoft to see if there is any compatability problems, but have not found any information.
Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Does the message you receive state iTunes encountered a problem and needs to close?
    If so, try reinstalling QuickTime.
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
    Select QuickTime and click Remove
    Restart the PC when finished
    Download and install from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Make sure you choose the option for the download that does not include iTunes.

  • MacBook Shuts Down Unexpectedly After Inserting DVD

I was about to watch my new TRANSFORMERS movie on DVD and after about 3 minutes of watching, my MacBook just shuts down immediately, so i tried the second time. This time, i was plugging in my ipod to recharge while the movie was paused. Once i got back and started to play my movie, the whole screen turned black (but the movie was still playing), and it shuts down again. Can anyone please tell me why??

I have JUST started experiencing the same problems where I'll insert a DVD and the computer may or +may not+ shut down unexpectedly in the middle of playing. When I try to restart with the dvd still in the laptop, it may also shut down again before I can successfully log in. This has also happened with several different DVDs over the last 4 days, so I don't think it's tied to the DVD itself...
I also have the computer on, plugged in, with the battery taken out, and with an external harddrive and mouse plugged in. Are the peripherals making it worse?
I bought my macbook in the US with a 3 year applecare plan and am now living in Beijing, China. I would like to be able to get this issue fixed, but don't know where to begin with calling a place in China. What is the protocol?

  • It shuts down unexpectedly and then it says something like "Overheat or something

Hi! My HP laptop is Pavilion dm4.
Problem: It shuts down unexpectedly and also when i touch the left side of my laptop, its so hot.

Compressed air is completely safe to use on the laptop.I use it every couple of months to clean both of mine and even inside the case of my desktop. Just be sure the laptop is shut down and  keep the can in upright position. If not it can disperse some of the liquid propellant in the bottom of can.

  • P305D Shuts down unexpectedly

I have a Toshiba Laptop Model Number P305D-S8834. It shuts down unexpectedly. Powers off. No screen display, no blue screen. It simply shuts itself down without warning.
So far I have booted in setup using F2 and just let it run at the setup screen. Within 15 minutes. It simply shuts down.
Booting into Safemode with command prompt it also shuts down.
If I can get Windows 7 to load and leave the computer at the login screen it shuts down.
I've checked the system logs and the system hasn't been writing errors to the log when this happens.
I'm suspecting an overheating issue. Any tools or diags, instructions how to clean fan motors or check system temperatures on this model?
    Thanks

This is most likely a hardware problem. What apparently happens is that your MBP stop recognizing the battery and the energy cord, since this happens when you are moving it, most probably is a short circuit or a moved cable (sorry for my english). Try taking it to an Apple Store for checking, since we can't help you with hardware issues over here

  • My macbook (aluminum 13inch) shuts down unexpectedly when battery 45%

    hello there,
my macbook 13inch-aluminum, 2 years old, shuts down unexpectedly when battery state is at about 45% and when an external hard drive (western digital passport 160gb) is connected, or an iphone on a usb port. This occurs only when my mac is running on battery power. I suppose same thing will happen with any other usb device connected. Last time the same thing happened, i did not have any usb device connected onto my laptop.
    My battery details are
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 2377
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3234
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 276
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 376
    Voltage (mV): 12249
I tried to reset my SMC settings as well, but this did not help. Any thoughts please?

Your full charge capacity is about 75% of what it should be, even though your cycle count is comparatively low. If you still have AppleCare, you ought to be able to convince them on the phone or at your local Genius Bar that you have a defective battery, because your capacity should be much higher at that number of cycles.
If you do not have AppleCare, you will probably have to pay for replacement.

  • My MacBook Pro shut down unexpectedly and won't connect to wifi now.

My MacBook Pro shut down unexpectedly and won't connect to wifi now. All other devices in my house are connecting to the wifi just fine. The laptop just refuses to connect. Any ideas on how to fix this/what it might mean?

    Try a SMC reset:

Follow directions for "A battery you should not remove yourself"
Check the mage safe connector and port for any debris.

I am running windows 7 home edition premium with 64 bit and RAM test after every restart is good so far.
Please can anybody help to the system stable and help my experience while browsing more enjoyable?
    Thanks.

I have European Satellite P500 almost 2 months now and use it with original preinstalled Win7 home premium 64bit. I use it daily for work and some multimedia activities. I also use Skype almost daily.
Until now I didnt notice any similar problem.
It is not easy to discuss about such problems because none of us know how you have configured preinstalled OS, which applications do you use and if there is some software conflict that can be responsible for this.
Have you installed something that can be responsible for this behaviour?
To be honest I cannot imagine you have had this problem from the first day. Maybe you should install recovery image again using HDD recovery option.
I dont know what kind of back-up do you mean but what you can do is to start recovery DVD creation.
