N5K-C5596UP-FA with Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM57711 NIC

Hi,
Our customer is willing to buy a N5K-C5596UP-FA and wants to know if he can use the Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM57711 NIC for Fiber channel.
Any help is much appreciated?

Hi Santiago,
The Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM57711 appears to be ethernet only (
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/ps10265/ps10493/1CS57711-TB100-D5.pdf).  It can do 10Gig Ethernet and iSCSI offloading.
They would need to purchase a FC HBA or CNA card depending on the design of the infrastructure to do Fiber Channel.

  • Interconnecting Nexus 5k with DELL Broadcom NetXtreme II 57711 NIC

    Hi,
Our customer wants now to buy a Nexus 5000 and the:
DELL Broadcom NetXtreme II 57711 Network Interface Card
    http://www.dell.com/us/enterprise/p/broadcom-netxtremeii-57711/pd
    and
DELL 10GbE SR SFP+ Transceiver for Broadcom 10GbE Dual Port Server Adapter - Kit
    http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=za&l=en&s=gen&sku=407-10356
They have some Dell servers will have the Broadcom card with the DELL SFP+ transceivers and will be connected to a Cisco Nexus 5000 switch that will have SR SFP+ transceivers.
    Now my question is:
Will there be any compatibility issue between the DELL SR SFP+ transceivers and the Cisco SR SFP+ transceivers (SFP-10G-SR (10GBASE-SR SFP Module))?
The reason I am asking this is because I found the below threat that talks about compatibility issues with the Broadcom NetXtreme II 57711 Network Interface Card:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3189099#3189099
    Could anybody please confirm?
In theory if both the servers and the Nexus will have SR SFP+ transceivers shouldn't be a problem, it doesn't matter that the SR SFP+ transceivers are one DELL branded and another one Cisco branded, right?
Any help regarding this is very appreciated.

I was actually working on a system, c-series, with this Broadcom card connected to a nexus 5000 and it was working just fine.

  • Problem connecting Broadcom NetXtreme II 57711 to Cisco UCS 6120

    Hi all,
I ordered rackmount server(C210 M1) with Broadcom NetXtreme II 57711 which I would like to connect to Cisco UCS 6120 in switching mode, but I can't make it working. Broadcom has 2 slots for SFP/SFP+ so I inserted Cisco SFP 10GBase-SR into it. I also inserted the same SFP into the Cisco 6120.
I also tried to cross the fiber but I still got no link.
I tried to lookup supported SFPs from Broadcom but have no luck so far. Can anybody help, please?
The only technical specification I found is http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1997284 . I don't know if it is reliable but I can't make much of it.
    Mat

    Martin,
Both the 6100 Farbric interconnect and the Broadcom support SFP+, below I have included some supporting documentation.
The first link shows the supported adapters for the C Series Servers (Overview of Cisco C-Series Adapters .pdf) which has a link to a datasheet for the broadcom. The second link provides a list of supported SFPs.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/ps10265/ps10493/c-series_adapter.html
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/data_sheet_c78-455693.html
The output of show interface brief on the fabric interconnect will display which interfaces have an SFP present, you can also use the command
show interface ethernet x/y transceiver details for more information.
If you still have issues you can use a process of elimination, change the cable, SFPs try a different port on the fabric interconnect. Plug another
supported device into the fabric interconnect to see if it comes up. You can use a similar process to rule in or out a problem with the Server.

  • PCI ID change after inserting broadcom NetXtreme II

HP DL385 with Solaris 06/11 installed.
Driver for bnx is also installed from HP and internal networkadapter ist working.
If I add a 2nd broadcom NetXtreme II Card, I can boot the server up to grub and if I try to boot my Solaris installation it fails with: unable to mount root device.
If I unplug the networkadapter the server boot normal.
If I boot from CD, I can see that the PCI ID from the HP SCSI e400 Adapter changed if the network adapter in pluged in.
    From: /pci@38,0/pci1166,142@10/pci103c,3234@0/sd@0,0:a
    To: /pci@36,0/pci1166,142@10/pci103c,3234@0/sd@0,0:a
If I change this in the bootenv.rc and reboot the server with the network adapter, it can mount the rootfs, read some configfiles and then stops to 'single usermode'.
But there I can't do anything cause I cannot remount it rw and all tools like devfsadm, touch reconfigure wont work cause it's readonly.
So I decided to boot again from CD, mount my filesystem chroot into it and use devfsadm -C and touch reconfigure. It deleted the old links in /dev/rdsk/c6* but didnt create new ones. If I now boot from my disks it allways reads some config, like nodename etc. and then stop into 'singe usermode'
    What can I do next?

Please post the output of format once you booted from the CD /DVD choosing option 6 with the card installed. Also the output from you original bootenv.rc and your original path_to_inst.
I had the same problem when I had to move a raid card around to install a HBA since my system could only accommodate one full size PCI card.
I followed the following steps, but they did not work for me maybe they work for you.
1.Move the controller to new PCI slot.
    2. Booted from the custom DVD
    3. Made a backup of the path_to_inst
    5. rm fr /a/devices/
    6. rm /a/dev/dsk/c*
    7. rm /a/dev/rdsk/c*
    8. rm /a/dev/cfg/c*
    9. devfsadm v p /a/etc/path_to_inst r/ /a (fails to create the path_to_inst file, creates all the devices)
In the end I just changed the path_to_inst and the bootenv.rc and did a touch /recounfigure (/a/) in my case since I booted from a DVD.

  • [SOLVED] Connection keeps dropping with Broadcom BCM4313

    Hi,
I recently installed Arch, and since the problems I had with wireless in Ubuntu still occurred, I went to the wiki.
It told me that brcmsmac is the driver I need, and it's included in the kernel. My wireless card is:
    prakhar@sim74stic ~ $ lspci -vnn | grep 14e4:
    0a:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:4727] (rev 01)
The problem is, for most APs and Connectify, and my old g router, this driver works perfectly. But I recently bought a newer D-Link 850L router, and I am having a lot of trouble connecting to that:
It connects after multiple timeouts (below).
The speed is typically 1mb/s to 43 mb/s.
It abruptly disconnects and doesn't connect again, even weakly, until reboot.
    For debugging:
My android connects to the router perfectly.
I have tried the wiki options, like blacklisting b43.
When I reboot, sometimes, the connection is perfect, max speed n, otherwise, most of the time it's sluggish 1mb/s and disconnects after some time .
This is the dmesg log (repeated multiple times):
    [ 943.695234] wlp10s0: direct probe to <mac removed> (try 1/3)
    [ 943.898191] wlp10s0: direct probe to <mac removed> (try 2/3)
    [ 944.101418] wlp10s0: direct probe to <mac removed> (try 3/3)
    [ 944.304643] wlp10s0: authentication with <mac removed> timed out
Even with a perfect connection, this timeout occurs.
    Here's all the loaded drivers:
    prakhar@sim74stic ~ $ lsmod |grep br
    brcmsmac 532342 0
    cordic 12352 1 brcmsmac
    brcmutil 13093 1 brcmsmac
    mac80211 514630 1 brcmsmac
    cfg80211 454161 2 brcmsmac,mac80211
    bcma 45870 2 brcmsmac
    led_class 12859 2 brcmsmac,hp_accel
If I allow b43 to load, this still occurs.
I have tried configuring my router as b, g, n, g/n, b/g/n, and the result is always the same.
On Ubuntu, I tried the broadcom-sta-dkms, and that gave me a good connection, but the networking didn't occurr ie, all hosts (including DNS) were unreachble, even with a correct routing table.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I have not tried to install/remove any drivers. These are all vanilla linux kernel drivers.

  • Linksys AE1200 wifi adapter with Broadcom BCM43235 driver not working

I followed the instructions on the Broadcom wireless page from ArchWiki, and I tried every method, and none worked at all. The interface never showed up with "ifconfig -a", and I could not get ndiswrapper to work with the windows drivers either. Any suggestions for alternate ways?

wolfo9999 wrote:but I know that the os detects it because it shows up in lsusb
That doesn't say anything except that the device is powered on. It does not say anything about the OS. The OS should know something, the docs claim that the brcmfmac driver supports it, but you haven't provided any info for us to know what's going on. ewaller gave you the hint: dmesg. Also exact lsusb output would be nice, so we'll know the usb-id of the device.

  • Problem with broadcom driver (wl) - can't set essid

After a long history of failure installing linux on Mac hardware, I thought I'd try once again try installing Arch a MacBook (4,1) containing the Broadcom BCM4328 wireless card.
I followed the instructions on this wiki page (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM4312) and installed the broadcom driver from AUR (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19514).
A couple of strange behaviors resulted. The first is that after the module installation, the wireless interface was set to eth0 and the ethernet interface is set to eth1. Not sure if this is a problem, but it was new to me.
That said, eth0 (wireless) was up and able to detect my wireless network with "iwlist eth0 scan".
My attempt to set the essid, however, failed.
    I issued the following commands:
    ifconfig eth0 up
    iwconfig eth0 essid "homeplate"
    But when I typed:
    iwconfig eth0
it still showed essid as empty ("").
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone encountered similar problems with the Broadcom driver?

I got it to work, I used the package from AUR (I Have a broadcom 4322, totally wish it was something else =p)
    yaourt -S broadcom-wl
Anyways, then I added the modules 80211_crypt_tkip and wl in rc.conf. At first I tried to use Wicd, but it wouldn't start at one point, and at another couldn't find any wireless hotspots. I decided to give network manager a try. So I downloaded and installed networkmanager, and network-manager-applet .
    pacman -S networkmanager network-manager-applet
It was able to find the wireless connections at this point, and I was able to connect(WEP Hex key) definitly did not get full speed that I have gotten from other distros typically 700k+, it was bouncing around 100-200. Mind you this was after a long process of trying to load wl as a daemon (DOH!) and I was completely stumped as to why it wouldn't work. Anyways, hopes this help you in someway.
Broadcom neeeeeeds to give us open source plssssssssssssss.
    Coleys!
I have ARCH on this computer, but *for now* my laptop is using sabayon (Dual booting arch, It rocks...) Hopefully us broadcom 4322,4328 users get a solution! D=

  • WiFi Woes with Broadcom 4313

I am trying to get my wifi working on the network at my school, and it refuses to do so. I use wicd to connect, but it has trouble obtaining the IP address. I ran dhcpcd and dhclient manually after configuring, and it returns with
    No DHCPOFFERS received.
The wifi works on my home network with WPA-PSK encryption, but not here with no encryption. I know that almost all ports are blocked on the network, so I tried broadcasting on a different port to no avail. This network still works on this laptop under Windows 7, so I am unsure of what to do. I tried getting the automatically discovered settings from Windows, and assigning them statically to the interface, but that doesn't work either.
I am using the broadcom-wl driver, as the brcmsmac one had a bad signal. I have another wifi module at home, but I really don't want to open up the laptop as it is under warranty.
    Thanks,
    Jacob

I managed to fix it by.....well, I'm not really sure. I just rebooted some more, and it seemed to fix itself. I would provide more info if I could, but I find it aggravating that I worked on it for three hours before it just fixed itself.

  • Problems with broadcom wlan adapter and wlan-button.

I've got a laptop (HP Compaq 6715S), which has an integrated wlan adapter (broadcom 4311/4312?). A couple of weeks ago the adapter was working ok with ndiswrapper and bcmwl5.inf driver, but it stopped working recently probably after ndiswrapper and/or kernel upgrade. Loading the ndiswrapper module from rc.conf made the whole system kernel panic (IRQ problem?) until I added:
    acpi=noirq
to the kernel boot parameters. Now this error doesn't occur every time I load ndiswrapper, but the problem still exists. BCM43xx driver doesn't work either. I'm using the 64-bit arch.

It can be turned on by booting to windows or resetting the bios to defaults, but it is not very nice. I've noticed that pressing the wlan button adds one usb device:

I guess I solved it. I have been using the 64-bit driver, but have tried the 32-bit driver from hp diver site too.  For some reason ndiswrapper seems to install a driver named "ndiswrapper" with this 32-bit driver, which is why it didn't work. So my solution was:
    1) Get the 32-bit driver from hp.com
    2) rmmod ndiswrapper
    3) remove all installed ndiswrapper drivers: ndiswrapper -r <drivername>
    4) installed the 32-bit driver: ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
    5) ndiswrapper -l gave me:
    bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4312) present (alternate driver: bcm43xx)
    ndiswrapper : invalid driver!
    6) Got rid of the weird ndiswrapper driver inside ndiswrapper: ndiswrapper -r ndiswrapper
    7) modprobe ndiswrapper
Rebooted a couple of times and it seems to work ok.
    How about the wlan-button problem?

  • Problems with Broadcom wireless card after Kernel Upgrade

After upgrading to version 2.6.39 of the linux kernel, I am having trouble with my Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card. The broadcom-wl driver no longer seems to work, even after reinstalling it from the AUR. The b43 driver seems to be able to connect to unencrypted networks, but can no longer connect to my family's WPA Personal encrypted router. Is anybody else having a similar problem?

As I understand it my laptop has been fine and it uses broadcom-wl, and I just re-yaourt it each time my kernel version changes using a cable in my router. But I believe there is something called dkms and a version of the driver for it, which (I haven't read fully into it) is something like a separate tree, which can (from what little I've read) eliminate this need to recompile every time, however I literally read this 5 minutes ago, from the AUR page for broadcom-wl and a quick google so I wouldn't be surprised if there is more to it than that.

  • Issues with broadcom 4313 wifi card on a samsung NP305

    Hi
I'm currently having issues with getting the wifi to work on my broadcom 4313 wifi card on a Samsung NP305U1A. The command
      lspci -vnn | grep 14e4
returns 14e4:4727, so according to the wiki, I chose the "brcmsmac" driver. I blacklisted correctly b43, bcma in the /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf file, rebuilded the mkinitpcio image, so when I type lsmod now, the only wifi modules loaded in my kernel are :
      brcmsmac 569864 0
      mac80211 221981 1 brcmsmac
      brcmutil 6912 1 brcmsmac
      cfg80211 165796 2 brcmsmac, mac80211
I still don't see the wlan0 appearing when I type ifconfig though.
    Would you have any advices?
    Thank you very much,
    Tuxer

    Hi everybody!
I've found a solution for this problem (at LinLap, see pierre comment on Feb-24-2012) and it worked for my Linux Mint installation. On " /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf" I didn't have the "blacklist b43" line, it was only on a previous comment line, but I commented the next line (it was similar) and added the same blacklist at end of file.
    Uninstall the 'Broadcom Sta' driver
    Open the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
    Delete the line:
    blacklist b43
Add these two lines at the end of the file:
    blacklist bcma
    blacklist brcmsmac
    Save and exit
    Type:
    sudo apt-get remove –purge bcmwl-kernel-source
    Reboot
    Type:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
    Reboot
    Select the 'Broadcom Sta' driver
Best regards and I hope this works for you too

  • Issues with Broadcom 4321

Hi all, hope someone can help.
I have purchased a generic Broadcom 4321 wi-fi card and installed it succesfully in my Mac Pro.
Now, the card shows up as an Airport Extreme Card under OSX 10.4.9, but Leopard only detects it as a Third Party wireless adapter.
What can I do to change this?
thanks for your help and support

well, if that is the case, why then is this seen by 10.4.9 as being fully compatible and reported as and Airport Extreme card?
It goes without saying that Apple have changed something in Leopard just to disallow us mere mortals once again to use products which are widespread in the PC industry.
I have read of a number of users who have succesfully installed this card, with screenshots that prove it.
All I need to know is why in this case it does not work.
    thanks
