N6300 Centrino Ultimate Wont join any wireless network

I just bought an Intel Centrino Ultimate N6300 wireless card and installed it on my W520 ThinkPad. Its working fine and I can discover all the wireless networks surrounding me that are 2.4 and 5 GHz. The only problem I faces is that it won’t join any wireless network at all. I have 2 wireless modems and I tried to create a hotspot using my iPhone and still no luck at all. Every time the computer will try to connect and will ask me for my Wi-Fi password and then will try to connect until it says can’t connect to network. I tried updating the driver but it was up to date, I also tried deleting the driver and install it all over again but still no luck. I'm currently running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit on my machine.
Can anyone please tell me if they know how to fix it?

Click on the START button, enter "network connections" (without quotes) in the "search programs and files" area. Press ENTER.  This will produce the "Network Connections" window, and your wireless network should show up there as an object.
Select that network object, right-click, select DISABLE.  Let it stabilize for 15 seconds or so.  You should see a red "X" over the wireless icon in the System Tray notification area.
After a bit, right-click again and this time select ENABLE.  Again, let it stabilize.  The red "X" should go away and the wireless icon should reappear, and you may once again be prompted to enter your password for the connection.
Does it get recognized successfully now?
You can also try right-clicking on that network object and select "diagnose".  See if Windows can figure out what's wrong and correct it.  You might be prompted to designate whether this network is home, work, or public, and presumably you'd select "home".
Also, another thing might be that you need to specify whether this new wireless network is home, work, or public.
Again, click on the START button, enter "network and sharing" in the "search programs and files" field.  Press ENTER.  This will produce the Network and Sharing Center window.
What is shown in the graphic?  Is your new wireless network presented??
You can try either "set up a new connection or network" or "connect to a network", and follow the dialog wizard.
Again, you eventually want to be presented with the window that asks you to pick home, work, or public network, and then you know you've finally got it working.

I would say that you would want to look into the "Exchange Mode" for GMail.  That would allow your iPhone to sync calendars, contacts and email with GMail just fine.  Doing the same with your outlook should also then sync those same with your PC using Outlook.  I've done teh iPhone side of this, but I since I don't run Lookout for my email client, I'm not sure how that will work on the PC side.

  • Time Capsule to join existing wireless network

    Hi All,
I have a question, as despite experimenting and reading all I can find on the subject I am no closer to a definite answer.
I have the old 500gb Time Capsule (802.11n non-simultanious version).
I presently have a BT HomeHub 2.0 as my wifi router downstairs, and use a Linksys WRT54GS to connect to the network SSID provided by the HomeHub. All my desktop machines, etc are then connected into the 10/100 switch in the WRT54GS, giving them access to the WiFi network.
Ideally I wanted to replace the WRT54GS with my Time Capsule, so that my desktop machines upstairs plug into the 10/100/1000 ethernet ports on the Time Capsule, which is then in-turn connected wirelessly to the BT HomeHub downstairs for Internet access. (The benefit of this being increased speed thanks to the 802.11n technology in the HomeHub and Time Capsule).
Sadly, the Time Capsule does not seem to like connecting to the HomeHub's SSID, each time giving me the flashing amber light. Normally, I would simply re-configure the network so the BT HomeHub connects to an SSID provided by the Time Capsule, but my version of the HomeHub is not capable of doing this, or using a WDS type setup.
WiFi signal strength is good where the Time Capsule is located, the network is using WPA/WPA2 mixed authentication, and other devices can connect to the SSID.
Any help on this is much appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Jon

    Welcome to the discussions!
When the Time Capsule "joins" a wireless network, (which is the only way that it could connect to the HomeHub network unless you use ethernet) the ethernet ports on the device are not active. When you configure the TC to "join", it really takes on the function of a wireless backup device, nothing more.
The Time Capsule cannot be configured for a WDS type arrangement with your HomeHub because it is not compatible.
If you want to connect the Time Capsule to the HomeHub and have the Time Capsule create a wireless network, then you must use an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on your HomeHub to the WAN port on the Time Capsule and configure the TC to act as a "bridge".
If you are unable to run an ethernet cable, the next option would be to use ethernet powerline adapters to use the wiring in your home to transmit the ethernet signal.

  • How can I use an Airport Express to join my wireless network and provide an internet signal to my Power Mac g5 via an ethernet cable?

I have a power mac g5 that does not have a wireless card, and connects to the internet via ethernet cable.
I want to know how to set up an airport express so that it joins my wireless home network and provides the G5 with an internet signal.
This via an ethernet cable that is plugged  into the airport express and then into the ethernet port on the g5.
Please advise as I have configured the airport express in every way possible, the green light is on and when I plug the ethernet cable into the G5 my network cofigurations shows nothing and says that the ethernet cable is not plugged in (It is).
I get an internet signal if the ethernet cable is plugged directly into my wireless router, so the ethernet port works.
    Please assist. Thanks.

Two requirements that must be met to do what you want.......
    1) An AirPort Express 802.11n must be used. Check the Model No on the label on the side of the Express. It needs to be A1264. Any other model number will not do what you want.
    2) The Express must be configured to "Join a wireless network" and the option to enable Ethernet Clients must be checked.
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
The box to "Allow Ethernet Clients" must be checked
Please check to verify that your AirPort Express meets both requirements

  • Mac Mini - Core Solo - Won't See Any Wireless network

I have a Mac Mini, first gen Intel, Core Solo, that won't see any wireless networks. However, it will see my extreme basestation, and my two airport express devices over bonjour, which makes me think that the wireless device is working.
I've reset the PMU, with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

Does an Airport card show in the system profiler?
Is Airport switched on in your mini - the Airport icon in the menu bar should show at least grey bars rather than an empty white 'fan' shape?
With Airport on, when you click on the Airport icon, does it show any network?
If you click on 'Join Other Network' and type the name of the wifi network you run, what error message does the system give?
How far away from the wifi base station is the mini? What kind of structures and environment is it in?
If you move the mini to be in close proximity to the wifi base station, does it show any signal?
When you download a copy of AP Grapher (http://www.chimoosoft.com/apgrapher.html) and run it, what does it show for signals, noise etc?
How is the mini seeing any wifi devices via Bonjour - do you have it wired into your network? If so, the fact that the devices appear via bonjour doesn't mean they are transmitting wifi, nor that they are in range.
By the way, the Core Solo mini doesn't have a PMU to reset. If you used the PMU reset procedure it won't have helped, and may actually have caused problems. The correct procedure for an Intel-based mini is an SMC reset, as follows:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    -Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, *making sure the power button is not being pressed* at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

  • "there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the device"

I get this error when trying to have my Airport (for wireless printer sharing) join my current O2 Broadband wireless network:
*AirPort Utility was unable to find your Apple wireless device after restarting.*
*The settings for this Apple wireless device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the Apple wireless device. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again.*
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

This has been a total joke...Same problems as many here and zero response from Apple! I've had an AX for 3 years or so and it has worked fine, that is until it dropped its connection 2 days ago. I went to reset and the utility prompted me to do some updates...then magically it all went down the tubes!
*"The settings for this Apple wireless device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the Apple wireless device. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again."*...look familiar? Well, I tried everything including the many possible fixes listed here at the discussions...and of coarse NOTHING. I decided that maybe it had just out-lived itself and bought a brand new AX yesterday...funny SAME PROBLEM. Now all the tinkering is affecting my network. I returned the new AX today, and surprise the people at the Apple Store had never heard of the issues, let alone have idea of what to do next! VERY MAD!
Any new solutions would be great! THX.

  • Can Time Capsule Join Existing Wireless Network?

I currently work in a building with a wireless network. In my own office, I use AX to join that wireless network and I connect a local printer to the USB port.
From some posts, I've gotten the idea that the Time Capsule will not join an existing wireless network.
    Is that the case?

That is correct - Time Capsule cannot be configured to function as a wireless client on an existing wireless network. The only Apple Airport product currently able to do that is the Airport Express device.
It can be configured as a remote base station in a wireless distribution system (WDS), but this would require the wireless network's main base station to be another Time Capsule or any model of Airport Extreme base station.

  • What's the difference between "Extend" or "Join" a wireless network?

I have a Time Capsule as my main base station and an Airport Express I'd like to use on another floor of my home for an internet connection for my Blu-ray player and to stream music via Airtunes. If I connect the Express to the Blu-ray using Ethernet and to my speakers with an audio cable, should I set up the Express to Extend or Join my network? What's the difference between "Extend" or "Join" a wireless network?

If I connect the Express to the Blu-ray using Ethernet and to my speakers with an audio cable, should I set up the Express to Extend or Join my network?
    Extend.
What's the difference between "Extend" or "Join" a wireless network?
When you configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to "join an existing wireless network" it will perform like any other wireless client (laptop, printer, etc.) that connects to that wireless network. It will NOT perform as a router nor extend the wireless range of (in this case) the Time Capsule (TC).
However, if you configure the AX to "extend a wireless network" it will perform as an additional wireless access point to your TC's wireless network, effectively extending the TC's wireless range. In addition, the AX's Ethernet port will also be enabled and you can connect a single Ethernet client or multiple ones if you connect an Ethernet switch instead.

  • Join a wireless network with Vista

I am having a problem to make the AE to work with my existing network. I have a wireless network that I set up ("ad hoc") to acces the internet with my laptop - the modem is installe in the desktop.
I am trynig to make the AE to enter in this existing wireless network but I can't! When I select "join a wireless network" I expect to have in the "Network Name" box my netnork name but it doesn't appear! Then I type the name and the password of my network, I update the AE then.... nothing! Dead!
The wireless network I have set keeps working but the AE doesn't enter in the network.
Am I doing anything wrong? Any tip will be useful!
    Thanks in advance.

First of all thanks for the posting!
Yes, when the AE is "blank" I can see it in both computers (strong signal), the desktop and the laptop. And it is constant green. Then I enter the Utility software and again everything is fine. It allows me to make all the configuration then when I update... boing!!! It dies. My "ad hoc" network continues working but the AE is dead. No signal! Then I go again there, make a reset, and the AE is back to live.
I guees there is something wrong with the way I want to use it, I mean, I want the AE to enter my existing network (WEP-128 bits). I give all the directions (SSID and Password) correctly but once it is updated with the info it doens't respond anymore.
I tried it many times and nothing. Now I am trying to create another network (WAP) and try again to configure the AE.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Can AirPort Extreme join a wireless network and share the connection to ethernet connected devices?

Can AirPort Extreme join a wireless network and share the connection to ethernet connected devices?

Yes, if the AirPort Extreme is joining a wireless network that has been created by another Apple router. In this case, it will be extending the wireless network and the Ethernet ports are enabled on the "remote" AirPort Extreme.
No, if the AirPort Extreme will be used with another router from another manfacturer.
Ironically, the less expensive AirPort Express can do what you ask about with virtually any wireless network using a special feature called ProxySTA. It won't extend the wireless with a non-Apple router, but the Ethernet port will be enabled.

  • Joining a wireless network

    Hi,
I am trying to move from one set-up to another.
In my current set-up, I have an airport extreme base station connected by ethernet cable to a modem. The base station creates my wireless network, and its hard drive contains my itunes music library. I also have an airport express in another room connected to my stereo, to play my itunes library.
I am looking to change this set-up for the following reasons: (a) Based on the recommendations on these boards, I am going to move my itunes library to an external hard drive. The disk on the base station is spinning up and down all the time, and disconnects from itunes regularly (for which I have searched in vain for solutions -- and have made workable only by some rube goldbergian set-up that is somewhat ingenious, if I don't say so myself). However, it's time to face facts and get itunes off the base station. (b) My new comcast modem is able to serve as a router and create a wireless network of its own.
So my desired set-up, which I have not been able to complete for reasons explained below, is as follows:
    1. Detach the ethernet connection between the base station and the modem.
    2. Set up the base station away from the modem, connected to the new hard drive and a printer.
    3. JOIN the new wireless network with the base station, and have it serve as a print server with attached storage.
    4. I don't want it to extend the network, because I don't need it to. And I don't want it thinning out my wifi signal.
Here is my problem. When I try to change the settings of the (still ethernet connected) base station to "Join a wireless network," my new network does not display in the available networks list. All of my devices are on this network, so I know it works. The list includes many networks in the neighborhood, so it is not a signal strength issue. Also, the base station set itself to bridge mode when the new network, connected by ethernet, was created. If I unplug the ethernet cable to the base station, I lose access to it in airport utility.
In addition, when I try to join the new network with the express, the network is not in the list either.
This is a possibly convoluted way of asking, can the base station hop on a wireless network, not extend it (sending out a wireless signal and diluting the signal), and serve as a print server? If so, why isn't it seeing my new wireless network?
    Thank you.
    Bill

I have no wireless clients on the AEBS -- they are all on the new comcast network supplied by the modem/router, to which the AEBS is a bridge, connected by ethernet.
You will find the laptop works better on the AEBS wireless generally.. that is why you still should use it.
Access to the AEBS via the comcast is fine.. you are ethernet linked from the comcast to AEBS.. but you are losing the better wireless device. Apple stuff is deliberately created with slow speed on 2.4ghz.. anytime you can be near the AEBS and use 5ghz it is double the speed.. That does make a difference for copying files to a hard disk.. it also reduces the wireless load on the comcast. Remember wireless is single channel half duplex.. unable to handle more than one device at once. Ethernet is mulitchannel duplex. Far superior. But by splitting wireless loads you are helping both devices.
Should I match the AEBS SSID and password to the comcast router SSID and password?
Yes, I said it still applies to your situation.. even though you have mix of apple and non-apple router. Roaming network setup is way to go.
All SSID should be short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Following the comcast is fine. Use WPA2 AES in that one = WPA2 Personal in the TC.
Only difference as I said to the apple article is using fixed wireless channels. Since two devices set to auto is not imho a great idea.
Create a wireless network is the only way wireless will work.. in this setup. If you extend or join you are back into hopping.
Also, this KB article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1731 suggests that for my purposes, my express should join the network and not extend it since it is merely used to connect to my stereo for airtunes.
That one is outside my "scientific" experiments.. use your own. This is a few minutes of adjusting settings. Extend is always as far as I can see the right way to go. Why join would be superior in this case, no idea. Try it.. old engineering method.. suck and see.
My main concern throughout has been to minimize the signal loss that could occur through the existence of multiple routers on the network.
Just use fixed wireless channels.. set to one of the three non-overlapping.. 1, 6, 11 and you can run three devices without issues.
It seems that by connecting the AEBS by ethernet to the router (even though it creates a new, unused network), I won't lose signal.
Correct because you set one to channel 6 and one to channel 11.. for example.
It also seems from reading the internet that I will lose signal merely by having the express out there -- perhaps by keeping it in client mode it won't.
I think you are not following .. there is no loss of signal.. the two devices are locked to each other. They have to be on the same channel to talk to each other.. but they cannot talk at the same time. And there is no information passed if they both listen at the same time. That means only one can talk.. the other listens. As soon as you introduce two wireless devices linked together.. if any device then connects wirelessly then you have double hop. It doesn't reduce the signal.. it halves the speed.
    Think in pictures..
    Internet
      |
Router 1 (comcast channel 1) ---- wireless client.
      |
Router 2 (AEBS channel 11) ---- wireless client.
Router1 and Router2 can both handle a wireless client.. they can both send full wireless speed info to each wireless client at the same time. Because they are linked by ethernet there is no slow down.
    Now
    Internet
      |
    Router 1 (comcast channel 1) ---- wireless client1
                                                 ---- wireless client2
Now you have two devices on the same wireless .. they share the bandwidth because wireless is not able to do multiple clients at once... it talks to wireless client 1 and then client 2.. each gets a time slice. Say 50% each so half the speed of example above.
    Now
    Internet
      |
Router 1 (comcast channel 1) ---- wireless AEBS--- wireless client 1 and 2.
Now you have two devices on the same wireless.. but the speed is half again. So 25% of the first case. Actually worse than that because wireless is inefficient at handling this scenario.
There is no reduction in signal.. indeed you might do this setup to get good signal to a far location in the house. But every packet is now double handled.
    It goes like this..
wireless 1 Tx packet to AEBS
    AEBS Tx packet to Comcast.
Comcast Tx return ACK packet to AEBS.
AEBS Tx return ACK packet to Client 1.
Then wireless client 2 gets a turn.
    Same deal.

When you configure the AirPort Express to "join" a wireless network, you can stream AirTunes to the device and connect a printer to print "remotely" over the network.
When the AirPort Express is configured to "extend a wireless network," it provides the same functions as above, but it also provides more wireless coverage in the area where it's located.
If you get equal wireless performance in either configuration, then chances are you may not need the extra wireless coverage provided by the Express when it "extends".

  • Does connecting a TC wirelessly via "join a wireless network" disable the Ethernet ports?

I've been trying to connect my TC wireless to a D-Link router/cable modem provided by Virgin Media. I have successfully enabled the TC to join my wireless network, and can successfully print from my USB printer, and back up my laptop using Time Machine.
However, when I connected my network laser printer to an Ethernet port on the TC, I could not print to it, or even see it on the network. (Naturally, it worked fine connected to the D-Link, or I would not be posting...)
To test my theory, we connected the TC to the D-Link by wire instead. Voila, we can print to the network printer even while it's connected to the TC.
So, can anyone confirm that connecting a TC wirelessly via "join a wireless network" disables the Ethernet ports?
If so, can anyone explain why a £300+ device would do something so daft?
    Cheers,
    Aegrem

So, can anyone confirm that connecting a TC wirelessly via "join a wireless network" disables the Ethernet ports?
When the TC is configured to "join a wireless network", it becomes a wireless client of the network and does not perform any routing functions, so the etherent ports are not enabled in this type of configuration.
IF...you were using an Apple"n" router as your main base station or router, you could configure the TC to "extend a wireless network", providing more wireless coverage and also enablling the ethernet ports. But, the "extend" feature will only work among Apple devices. Or more correctly, we're not aware of any other devices from any other manufacturers that are compatible with this feature.

  • Airport Extreme - Cannot join a wireless network

I just purchased the Airport Extreme and cannot get it to find a wireless network. In the Airport Utility I receive the following messages, "Joining a wireless network….An error occurred joining the selected wireless network.". I cannot proceed past this point. When I select "manual" configure I get the same error message. I've tried repeatedly disconnecting the cable & power from the modem and the airport extreme and then restarting but nothing happens. Any advice would be appreciated!

If you have a cable modem, you will need to power it off for at least 15-20 minutes and pull the battery if is has one as it is remembering the last device (probably your computer) that is was connected to. Power it back up after 20 minutes and connect the ethernet cable to the WAN port on the AEBS.
Suggest you do a factory default reset to clear the corrupted settings and start over again on the AEBS
    Power down the AEBS
Hold in the reset button +and keep holding it in+ as you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after approximately 8-10 seconds
Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS to help AirPort Utility connect with the device.
You will be configuring the AEBS to "Share a public IP address" and "create a wireless network. The guided setup will step you through.
