N660 TF 2GD5/OC - Core clocks keep spiking to maximum since PSU change

Hi, the core clocks on my GTX 660 Twin Frozr III have been spiking to maximum when browsing or just opening/closing programs since changing to a Corsair RM 750W PSU (their new model).
Looking at GPU-Z when this is happening (see pic below), the GPU load is under 5% so I don't know why this is happening.
Here's my system information:
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD4H, BIOS F1, i5-3470, Windows 8 64 bit
Corsair 2x4GB CMX8GX3M2B1600C9
Corsair RM 750W PSU
MSI N660 TF 2GD5/OC
Corsair Neutron 128GB SSD
Samsung SH-B123L Blu-Ray Rom Drive
My CPU & GPU are both at stock speed and I have done a virus scan with Kaspersky which was negative. Also using latest 327.23 WHQL drivers.
Any help appreciated.

Many thanks for your reply
I guess I'll accept this is normal behaviour then. I think it's because I've now got a quieter PSU (fan only spins up on 40% load) that I can hear the GPU fan briefly spinning up & down every time the power state changes. Which is only slightly annoying, but with my OCD tendencies becomes magnified.
The only workaround I've found so far is to use Nvidia Inspector's multi display power saver mode, so I'll stick to that for now and maybe wait for the next generation of cards from AMD and Nvidia before upgrading and maybe finding a card that works better with my PSU.

  • MSI GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC (SLI) Running at 50% Core clock

    Hello there,
In my home setup, I have two MSI GTX 660 TF 2GD5/OC cards installed in my Mainboard (ASRock 970 Extreme4) in an SLI configuration (together with a bridge, of course). I would say that everything is running fine.
Though, with 3D mark, my core clock seems to be clocking in at 549 Mhz
    http://www.3dmark.com/fs/738108
While in the official specifications, 1098 seems the normal rate (hm, that is exactly 50% slower).
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N660-TF-2GD5-OC.html#/?div=Specification
I am using the latest (BETA) Nvidia Driver 326.41 driver.
I have the feeling something is off, and my 3Dmark is actually a lot lower then it should be, since installing the 2nd card, my performance with Rise of the Triad 2013 and Super Street Fighter AE seems to have dropped (I can barely play in 3D anymore, while I had no problem doing so with a single card, and according to the Nvidia site, SSFIVAE supports 3D and SLI).
Can you guys give me some pointers what might be the problem? Thanks in advance!

  • Core Clock Issue of MSI R7-260x 2GD5 OC

I just bought an MSI R7-260x 2GD5 OC.
In the official website, the core clock and memeory frequency are 1175 Mhz and 6500 Mhz respectively.
However, the figures shown in Afterburner are 1050 Mhz and 6000 Mhz (4*1500 Mhz).
Is it a defective product? Or it means I can always overclock the card to 1175 Mhz and 6500 Mhz ?
The driver is the latest version downloaded from AMD official site.
The version of AfterBurner is 2.3.1.

Looks like a R7-260X but clockrates justr match the non-oc R7-260X 1GD5. In some local markets there might also be a non-oc 2GB version. Add a pic of the box and retry with latest Afterburner version: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=161235.msg1277518#msg1277518

  • N660 TF 2GD5/OC and Gaming APP error

    Hello!
I tried running the gaming app but it keeps giving me error "not supported in this platform". I have reinstalled it three times and I have also upgraded my graphic drivers.
On the graphic card box the sticker says as the title suggests "N660 TF 2GD5/OC". I can confirm it's the TF edition as the card has two cooler fans.
Windows display settings says my current BIOS version is 80.6.28.0.39.

N660 TF 2GD5/OC is no Gaming series vga and therefor does not support the Gaming APP. Only Gaming series vgas which provide the required profiles (like N660 GAMING 2GD5/OC) are supported. It is therefor normal that the APP reports an unsupported platform.
As no Gaming series vga is used thread was also moved to Graphic Cards section (from wrong section GAMING Graphics Cards).

  • N660 TF 2GD5/OC and DOS mode

I have Dell U2311H 23" FullHD monitor. With N660 TF 2GD5/OC in DOS mode (BIOS setup an so on) I don't have image extension to whole screen - there is 1.5-2cm black border around it. It is very strange because monitor shows 1920x1080x60Hz mode in menu.
Monitor is connected to video card by DVI-D. I tryed both DVI ports on card without difference.
Before I have used MSI NX8800GT-T2D512E-OC on the same system without such problem - there was full screen image for all video modes.
Video card BIOS v80.06.10.00.5E. I made BIOS backup - it is absolutely the same as can be downloaded now from MSI download page for this videocard  (NV287MS222.ROM). Under Windows 7 card works fine.
    Could you explain such behaviour?

  • REQUEST: UEFI GOP - 2 * MSI N660 TF 2GD5/OC

Hello All, i like to request the latest UEFI bios for the follow cards...
    First:
    N660 TF 2GD5/OC
    S/N 602-V287-04SB1208195847
    Second:
    N660 TF 2GD5/OC
    S/N 602-V287-050B1304104486
Currently running a ASrock Z87 Extreme6/ac with UEFI BIOS ofcourse.
I noticed a topic a few posts below with the same cards, but i figure its better to ask again, so we do not run into major problems. Also both cards are made in a different time, so there might be different bios's  needed.

Might be also interesting to mention, that there is a clear difference between both 660's.
The top one is running at +- 34°C, while the bottom one runs at +- 29 a 30°C... Even when i split the multi monitor load over both, this stayed the same. And there is almost no hot air being draw from the lower to top, as the case is open ( for another reason, with fans blowing cold air directly to them ), and the 34°C, what is around the same 33°C that is was running before, without a second 660 below it.
So ... Whatever they did, they clearly optimized the core even better on this new one, or so it seems.

  • [Request] Vbios for N660 Gaming 2GD5/OC /GTX660

    Hello,
I would like to request UEFI vbios for MSI N660 Gaming 2GD5/OC, SN#:602-V287-260B1403113134, original ROM at:
    http: // ulozto . cz / xj3FKkJM / gk106-rom
Pls, remove the spaces in address, ty
    Thank you very much!

Is VBIOS needed to replace it? Why im doing this is, that i was getting the infamous msg: Display driver has stopped working but has recovered!!!!
Only thing which helped me was, i putted boost limit from 1228.5Mhz to 1071.5Mhz so to exact number that boost clock is. This prevented that annoying msg and crashes from games. But yesterday i got msg again :( not so frequently by far, but still...
Is thare any way how to help w it? I checked every solution w clean un/install drivers, rerolled, tdr solutions, free from malwares, viruses, also have new pc with fresh components, only kept this card and "Display driver has stopped working but has recovered" still haunts meeee
    Desperate.

  • N770 TF 2GD5/OC lower clocks

    Hi!
My new N770 TF 2GD5/OC should have the following specifications:
    Core Clock: 1098 MHz
    Boost Clock: 1150 MHz
But launching GPU-z shows me the following default values:
    Core Clock: 1085 Mhz
    Boost Clock: 1137 Mhz
Should i be concerned about this? I was expecting the clocks as listed in the specs.
     - Sure i can do a little OC myself, but i would like to know if this is a faulty card.

    To answer my own question.
The danish retailers had listed wrong specs.
     - Found the real specs here:

  • GOP VBIOS for N660 TF 2GD5/OC

    Hi,
Can you send me a GOP VBIOS for my graphic card ?
    Model : N660 TF 2GD5/OC
    S/N : 602-V287-04SB1210110609
    ROM : mega.co.nz/#!Op1VAIIZ!-EUwNlX1IuYF2KP085NzxYxf6xMmOXzwDCMorrqeE0M
    Thank you.

    Use the attached.
Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Then flash the included file with Nvflash for dos: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvflash_download.html
To do so rename the included file to .rom and create a dos bootstick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0)
Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash.

That is useless and not a real vbios version. Provide the actual vbios saved to file or the Nvflash version information text file (Syntax: nvflash /v >rep.txt [ENTER] ).

  • N660 TF 2GD5/OC UEFI BIOS Request

Try disabling the onboard vga as an experiment
Then use nvflash and use this syntax if it still won't work:
    nvflash /v >rep.txt [ENTER]
Post the contents of the txt file here. Make sure it includes what vbios version is installed.
Edit: Also, try a full cmos clear and see if there is any change.
