N660TI PE 2GD5/OC Blank Screen on POST

Hi,
The Summary:
Turning on PC with N660TI plugged in presents blank screen on POST.
Am able to get the card working by "jump starting it" - read below for details
Have tried many things and am stuck.
Please help!
The Detail:
I was given a N660TI PE 2GD5/OC in October last year from the US as a gift (I live in South Africa) and when it first arrived I placed it in my Asus P8P67 Evo Motherboard and it failed to POST completely.  We tried it in my friends Asus P8P67 board and it worked 100%, his MSI 560TI works 100% in my P8P67 Evo.  In December, Asus released a BIOS update for the P8P67 Evo to bring it on-par with the P8P67 and we could get the 660TI to POST by booting the machine with no PCI-E Power plugs installed, waiting for the message to appear to say "plug in power to the card", then plugging in power and hitting the RESET button on the board - this works everytime and I have been "jump starting" my pc like this for some time.  We have tried BIOS updates and VBios updates and eventually today, I got fed up and bought a MSI Z77A-GD65 thinking it was a faulty P8P67 Evo.
After installing the MSI Z77A-GD65 the situation is the same.  We have now updated the MSI to the latest BETA UEFI Bios (A91) and the 660TI to the latest vbios I found on the forums which is 220MS.Rom.
Tonight, my friend will take the card and try it on his motherboard (P8P67) again and we will update the post tomorrow.
Has anyone got any suggestions for us as I am at my wits end and as I received the card as a gift from overseas, the local Distributors will not help me and I will have to send it to Europe at an expense of about 60% of the cost of a new card locally which doesn't really make much financial sense :(
My Hardware:
Intel Core I5-2500K (Stock)
MSI Z77A-GD65 Motherboard (was ASUS P8P67 Evo)
Coolermaster 600W Silent Pro Gold PSU
MSI N660TI PE 2GD5/OC (Stock)
2x Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3-1600
Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit
OCZ Agility 3 SSD
N660TI PE S/N:  602-V284-09SB1208153785
Thanks
--Craig

Ok I seem to have solved the problem.  I replaced my PSU with a 450w spare one and now it POSTs - I must mention the 600W Coolermaster does work 100% with my friends 560 Ti and another card, so there is nothing wrong with the PSU itself.
My Windows was also crashing the driver after this every 5 mins, but after changing the TDRDelay registry key to 20, it is stable the whole night so far.
Any ideas why this card does not POST with my VERY expensive PSU.  I have read on Tomshardware that apparently some PSUs cause the card not to POST because of changes MSI made to the card?

  • The Blank Screen & Deleting Posts

I wrote a feedback to a topic and pressed submit and I did get a blank screen afterwards. I tried to reload the page and still the same blank screen. I returned to the topic at hand to see my posting and what ended up happening is double-posting my feedback. I tried to edit the entry to attempt to delete it, but there is no delete option similar to the old discussion board. So, with the new discussion board, how do you delete an entry?

We need the following changes to the post message procedure:
While writing the message (interacting with the message editor), indicate how much time is remaining for us to complete our message or reply.
After clicking Post Message, indicate that the message was or was not posted (success/failure), and navigate back to the original discussion thread (or to the post, if a new tread was started).
After clicking the Post Message button, the new message is successfully posted but the JSP app takes us to a blank page. To navigate to my post, I have to search for it or use My Posts.
The posting feature seems to have a time limit. That is, if it takes me more than a few minutes to write a reply, I have to resubmit my reply by navigating back and clicking Post Message again.
Also, what was wrong with the WebObjects discussion board? Why the JSP boards now?

  • Blank screen after hibernate, no post

    Toshiba satellite l505d-s5983
I have had this laptop for 4 years, and recently i was running into an issue where my laptop may die in hibernation during my commute.
Usually, I could pop the battery out, use wall power, and windows would resume...
However, one day it just wouldnt come back.
I have tried draining the battery, taking it out, draining the laptop and plugging it back into the wall with no progress.
On boot, LED, USB, DVD, Fans, all work...  caps lock and numberlock flash, and go out....
Screen remains black, no post. I have a toshiba windows 7 disc, but it does no good.
I bought a usb/sata cable and I can access my HD and save my data, so the HD is good
I swapped ram chips one at a time in alternating slots and received nothing.
I plugged the ram into my girl friend's toshiba and it boots fine. So the ram is good.
I attempted using her powercord,  and got nothing.
I plugged up my desktop monitor and got nothing.
I have tried fn/f5 as well and got nothing.
I took apart the laptop, cleaned it up... stripped it down to the basics, plugged in the power and still nothing on the screen.
Having given up,  I bought the exact same laptop on ebay, thinking I could swap the HD's and be good to go...
When I received the laptop, exact same situation... alternated hd, ram, nothing.
It appears to be stuck in hibernation, but I would assume that some combination of wall power, or draining/chargining would fix it on at least one of the two laptops.
    Thoughts?

    Thanks for the quick response...
Hi You said you have the Windows 7 disc, but it does no good. Are trying to boot from the disc. What actually happens. Do you have the boot order set to boot from CD/DVD first and HD second. Are you powering off your PC with Bothdisc in CD Rom and then powering on your PC?
I get a blank screen and I do not even make it to post (toshiba screen) to change boot order. When I power on the laptop, and put the disc in you can hear it spin as if it is attempting to load, but nothing ever comes on the screen. I have also tried leaving the disc in, and powering on the laptop.  - With both, my laptop, and the ebay laptop.
If you can't boot with the disc and the disc is good, you could be looking at a power supply problem, could have a bad power jack or the worst, a bad mother board. You said you tried her power cord. Not wise unless they are the same model.
I have 2 off brand power cords, specifically for my laptop. Both cords receive power at the box, and seem to do fine charging the batteries  for both as well. As a side note, booting with AC unplugged doesn't result in any changes. Her laptop (the 3rd toshiba) is an A205, and seems to have no problem using one of my cords.
Can you borrow a external monitor??
I have a monitor for my HP desktop, which is functioning. When I plug it into the wall, and into either laptop (and attempting fn+f5) I get nothing. No signal from the monitor.
PS Did you get a power adapter with your ebay PC?
It was suppose to be missing a power adapter and an OS. The seller is a computer repair place. There were pics of the laptop at post, and it is the same laptop because it shares a scratch with what was received. The guy is willing to refund me, but it just seems odd that I would come across 2 laptops of the same model with the same problem.
I spoke to another repair person on FB that suggested taking out the cmos to drain the board, but it is soldered in. I have also left the battery and plug out for 24 hrs, thinking it may help drain some juice, to no avail.
I have been googling for almost 2 days, between msg boards/youtube etc... and i'm pretty stumped. I am not taking apart the ebay model, but i have tried practically everything i can think of, as far as disconnecting components on mine, and hoping for a post.
ultimately, I want to be able to use my hard drive as is, in a laptop, primarily because of the programs that are installed, with the least expense attached as my job will not replace the laptop.

  • Blank Screen No Beep No Post on new Z87-G45 Gaming

I posted this on another forum, but since I think my issue might be a bit different I figured a new message would be better.
I switch on older mobo with the this one, new ram, and new Cpu.
When I power it on everything spins up but no post no screen no beep nothing....just spinning fans.
I did all the tests, plugs, bent socket, ram chips, etc...
Since I was switching out a older motherboard with this one, I knew my power supply was good but who knows.
Today.  I took a case and stripped it down to metal...put in all the correct mounts in the correct positions, new (in box) Antec 650W PSU
Mounted the board in the new case, connected the speaker, usbs and switches.  Plugged in the PSU.
Note: I didn't hook up anything.  No Hard disk, no DVD drive, no keyboard, no mouse, nothing.
plugged in the monitor (via DVI)
turned it on...same result.  Spinning CPU fans but no beep and a blank screen.
BTW, I registered at the MSI support site but since I send in my serial number tag for the rebate I couldn't register a product.
    MOBO: Z87-G45 Gaming  purchased 12/30/2013
    CPU: i7 4771
    RAM:  Patriot 2x8GB (in slot 2 and slot 4) PC3-15000 1866Mhz
    PSU: Antec  650W
Yesterday I even pulled out the multimeter and started look at the voltage numbers...not that I know what they are supposed to be.
    What else can I try?
Any help would be great and thank you!
    Gene

    Just an update.
I returned the board to Fry's and while there, there was someone else returning the same board for the exact same reason.  He got a different board and I just exchanged mine for the same model (even though it was an open box).
I followed xmad's advice and did a out of case test with it.  While sitting on the plastic 'Conductive Grid Bag, I plugged in the CPU, the RAM and the power.  Hooked up the DVI and turned on the power.
and....got a message on the screen about the amount of memory has changed.
I'll take that.   Putting the board in the case and hooking up all the wires now.
Thank you xmad for helping me out....at least I know I wasn't going insane.

  • A78M-E45 blank screen, wont boot, no post boot.

    Hi there,
I always had ASUS boards with Intel processors. Now Im building a MSI / AMD computer.
    Motherboard: A78M-E45
Memory: Kingston blu 16gb 1600mhz KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G (two sticks of 8gb)
Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 760K
    Power: Corsair CX430 V2
    Graphics: Club3D Radeon R9 270 14 series
    SSD: Crucial M500 240gb sata3
    Case: CoolerMaster N300
With this configuration the system wont boot. Just a blank screen.
I did a few tricks like changing the Power to a better one. Unplugged the SSD and DVD drive. Cleared the cmos.
    No luck.
The processor is compatible but the memory is not on the list. The board should handle speeds up to 2133mhz so that sould be no problem.
    What am I missing here?
    Thanks,
    Sebastiaan.

I have a few questions for you:
what other power supply did you try? (it may be a power problem as a AMD system with that config may need upto a 500-550W PSU with the CPU and Graphics combo you have)
have you tried each stick of RAM individually on the board? (Some kits are defective and you need to test each)
can you try the board outside the case on a non conductive surface (cardboard or untreated wood) to make sure its not a short under the board?

  • New Install - startx results in blank screen with mouse cursor

I installed Arch on my desktop last week with no issues, so I wanted to install it on an old THinkpad R31. Everything with the installation went smooth, but when I try to 'startx' all I get is a blank screen with a mouse cursor that I can move around. I've installed xorg-xinit, xorg-twm, xorg-xclock, and xterm.
I'm not getting any significant errors in the logs, or even the terminal I issue 'startx' in.
I'm not sure what the problem could be...
Here is my output from 'startx'

To run twm, you need to install xorg-twm from [extra] (I am not sure if it installs by default). Do you have xterm installed?
According to his first post he has both xorg-twm and xterm installed.
    I do indeed.
I went ahead and installed LXDE anyways, just to see what would happen. Exact same thing, it looks like everything is about to load but only the mouse cursor shows up. My Xorg.0.log is the same, so I won't post it again.
I do get an error in the console about the openbox menu.xml file missing but I doubt that's related.

  • Issue with blank screen HP G60-447CL Notebook PC

Issue with blank screen  HP G60-447CL Notebook PC, I purchased warranty and have had the laptop serviced before for the same exact issue.  Same problem has come up again blank screen it has been less than five months this problem was fixed and it has started again:  blank screen white, laptop is powered on nothing else happens.  Now I cannot reach anyone.

    You're very welcome.
I have tried many times to help folks with different drivers and nothing has worked.
I'd say at least a dozen people have posted about this issue, and no one can fix it.
    I don't understand it either.

  • I reformatted my ipod to windows and now I get a blank screen. Help!

My brother gave me his old Ipod 30Gb, I believe it's an IPOD Classic. When I first connected it to my PC I got a message that it needed to get reformatted to Windows, so I did that. After that when the IPOD came back on it had a blank screen. I tried holding down the menu + center button also but that did not work.
I also tried running the diagnostics on iTunes and failed on the Device Sync Test. I can see the music on the IPOD but they are greyed out and  it won't play. But if I attach the earbuds I can hear the songs, but again the screen is blank.
Thank you for any assistance you can give.

    Difficult to comprehend your post.
" I can see the music on the IPOD but they are greyed out and  it won't play. But if I attach the earbuds I can hear the songs, but again the screen is blank"
    Especially these parts
that you can see the music but the screen is blank?
it wont play but you can hear the songs.
Just a wild guess, your battery is low, connect it to the PC for 4 hours, then Reset the iPod. (Menu+center button
till the Apple logo comes ON)
    Tenga un buen día

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Battety problems - blank screen wit battery sign with red line

I have the blackberry 8900 curve. Recently when I put my phone on charge it would turn my BB off and turn it self back on again. My battery was about 2% and I put it on charge and the phone turned off but when I looked at my phone the red light came on and then blank screen with a battery sign with a red line through it.
I got some advice to take out battery, sim card and memory card. Which I did and my BB turned back on. However my battery was still dead so I put it back on charge and it turned off and since then my BB hasn't turned back in. I've left it on charge and nothing.
Would really appreciate it if someone could help me out on this.

  • Blank screen showing battery sign with red line - possible solution

    Hi to everybody,
I had a little issue with my Blackberry curve 8350i, but I think this might go with several models. One day my Blacberry updated an application and restarted, but when restarting suddenly I got a blank screen showing a battery sign with a red line. I took out the battery and put it in again, but no luck. I searched on many forums if anyone experienced the same as me. I found a lot of topics but no solution. I called tech support of my service provide and fortunatelly I talked to a tech guy who was willing to help. He said that this error message usually might appear when the battery is faulty, not original (not my case) or device is not working, but before taking a final statement he wanted me to try something first. He said to take out the battery, the SIM card and any extern memory card. Then to clean any contacts with air. I followed his instructions and after that the device worked again without any problems. I would like to share this experience on this forum maybe this will help other to to solve similar issues.
    Best regards,
    Julix

  • Blank screen after poweroff

First of all, sorry for my language. I'm french (I've posted my problem on the french forum here but it hasn't been solved yet.
    THE PROBLEM :
When I shutdown my desktop computer using any command ('shutdown -h now' 'halt' of using the syslinux poweroff, and even when I try to suspend with 'pm-suspend'), I have a blank screen when I try to turn the PC on. And then the screen says "no signal". Even the BIOS doesn't appear.
I have to use the RESET button of my tower to see the BIOS appear
First I didn't have the problem with the command 'reboot', but it's the same now (since I changed my CMOS battery).
And since that I have also to RESET several times to get the BIOS.
    MY CONFIG :
    - kernel : 3.14.2-1-ARCH
    - openbox + slim
    - bootloader syslinux
    - graphic card : NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS + current Nvidia driver (my card is not recognized by 'nouveau')
    - motherboard : ASUSTeK P5PL2-E
    - BIOS version : 0904 (up to date stable version)
    - CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz
    - Screen : ACER G246HL (DVI connected)
WHAT I'VE TRIED SO FAR :
    - unplug the computer, wait, plug it.
    - reinstall the packages : nvidia nvidia-utils nvidia-libgl xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-server-utils
    - boot on the arch's liveUSB and shutdown from there >> same problem
    - boot with the kernel options 'noacpi noapic nolapic'
    - desactivate the QuickBoot option on the BIOS (it seemed to work but finally not)
    - use the LTS kernel
    - open the computer and clean everything inside, check that everything is OK, even change the CMOS battery
    - run memetest86+ >> no error
    - check the CPU temperature
    WHAT I FOUND (quite similar):

    Please help :'(

  • Blank screen after grub

    Nvidia GT610 through HDMI
I know this issue is one of the more popular ones (at least for me); however, after several hours of research, there is not much to go off of and nearly no information pertaining to this card.
A while back, I posted an issue about a garbled screen when booting into a live enviornment and really got no where; however, I was able to work around it by using the VGA port on my motherboard and get Arch and ssh installed.
With the closed source drivers installed, I was able to get something other than a garbled screen.  That something, unfortunately, is just a blank screen.  There isn't even an xorg log file in /var/log.
    nomodeset produces the same results.
Any sort of lead at this point is appreciated.
    Thank you

I have same problem: black screen after grub. This started happening after installing 'nvidia' package. My graphics card is gtx 570. I am logging in by typing username and password, then using startx blindfolded. After that i get to see desktop.
my problem was fixed adding nomodeset parameter

    @Neela
    Try reading this thread
However, not every blank screen will lead to broken GPU, start your own thread so that everybody can help to troubleshoot it.
    @12o
Class action lawsuits against HP is not a new news, If you wish to join them please do so but posting a link in HP forum thread might not a good approach.
Just imagine, if someone mark your own backyard saying how awful you are
BTW, I'm not have any affiliations with HP, just ordinary HP user that would like to help.
