N70 v5.0638.3.0.1 battery life reduced issue

I updated to v5.0638.3.0.1, and it seems like a BIG ISSUE of this FW release is that the battery drains a lot faster.
for example, fully charged my phone saturday morning, used it for 4-5 SMS, 4-5 minutes of 3G Mobile Internet, maybe 5 minutes of calls, and on sunday morning, the phone battery indicator had 2 lines...
also, other N70 users with last FW have complained that the battery life has been reduced since they updated to v5.0638.3.0.1 . So please, Nokia, do something about this issue, it's very important.
Users with N70 v5.0638.3.0.1, please report here if you feel like your battery life has been reduced.

is this not an important issue ?

  • Battery life reduced by nearly half after Maverick upgrade

    Hey guys,
As for the setup, I'm currently running a MBPr mid 2012 2.3 GHz i7 16GB DDR3 w/ 256 GB SSD. (I doubt it's relevant but only 170GB is allocated to OSX and the rest to a BootCamp partition for Windows).
Now, for the problem, immediately after upgrading I noticed a drastic drop in battery life.  I've done a bit of research and found a few similar cases but have yet to find a solution.  I understand that right after the install Spotlight indexing drains the battery for a while, however I'm 2 days in and am still experiencing this issue. I should also add that during those 2 days I drained the battery completely and did a full charge.
I've already tried to rebuild the Spotlight index following these steps: http://osxdaily.com/2012/01/17/rebuild-spotlight-index/
On top of rebuilding the Spotlight index I've also tried an SMS reset following PlotinusVeritas's steps from another thread:
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Neither of these steps fixed the issue.
My battery life prior to the upgrade was 7 hours (+- a few minutes) and after the upgrade it is at 4 hours (+- a few minutes).
Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Noah

Well, I talked to the german telephone support on monday, they wanted to know the current capacity, load cycles etc, if I had tried resetting the SMC and calibrating the battery, and in the end they just sent me a new battery (I'm still inside the 12 Month guarantee time).
This arrived yesterday, and I'm using it after calibrating it directly .. so far it works without problems, and the MBP has not shut down on me suddenly, but has shown the 'low battery' warning and went to sleep as expected at 5-10% battery left.
So, at least for me the apple support seemed to agree that the battery was broken .. what caused it, no idea.
The new battery should have received the 1.3 battery update when I installed it, don't know how to check what version is on the battery.

  • Macbook Pro (2012 April) Battery Life Reduced A Lot!

Hi guys I got a macbook pro sometime around April 2012 and the battery life just went down drastically in  a couple of months i have no clue why before it used to show upto 7 hours something initially but then it started showing only 4 hours or so i feel something went totally wrong with the battery is there any way to fix it please give me some helpful suggestions thanks! By the way i must mention this today i was watching the percentage meter it makes absolutely no sense first it showed 7:08 today on 98 percent then within few minutes it went to 6:28 in 97 percent so i think somethins is very strange with the battery. Just yestarday on 99 percent it was showing 4:38 hours please help me fix it.

As others have said the battery itself is perfectly OK.
The reason your remaining charge shows only 4:38 after it has been fully charged may be explained by one or more processes that are responsible for excessive power demands. To isolate that potential cause read: Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity
Because i have turned of put harddisk to sleep as someone on forums suggested to another user that turning that off can help stop freezing problems when opening lid
Whatever you did may have exacerbated this problem or created others. More information would be helpful. Can you provide more detail?

  • Battery Life- SHORT: Issue within the last 5 days

My phone would stay charged for a full day or even 2. In the last 5 days, my phone keeps going dead after being charged to 100%. After about 6 hours its completely dead. I have not recently downloaded any new apps, all my notificiation are turned off, I don't receive any push notification, ect. So, I don't know why I have had such an issue in the last few days. If any one could help, I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

    Hi Sunflower99,

    Battery life seems short
Click (www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html) for tips on how to prolong iPhone's battery life.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Connect iPhone to iTunes and restore iPhone.
If the screen shows a low-battery image, the battery is low on power and needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it.
When charging iPhone, make sure to leave it charging until it is fully charged. You'll know the battery is fully charged when the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen looks like this .
Note: When charging using a computer, don't connect iPhone to a keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.
Note: Charging with a FireWire-based power source is not supported, except on original iPhone.
If you continue to have battery-life issues, we may need to isolate the issue further. It might be best to restore your iPhone as new, then test once more:

  • HT1490 battery life reduced after updating to osx mountain lion

I used to have a battery life of 7hrs+ but after updating my os to mountain lion 10.8 it has reduced to 3hrs. I've bought this macbook in august and i dont think there'll be any issue with the battery for just 3 months. I guess this has to be something related to mountain lion. Can anyone please suggest any method to increase my battery performance again...

Battery life on my 2012 mbp is also terrible, getting 2 hours out of it. They checked the battery and said its perfectly fine..

  • Battery Life / Recharging issues after latest Update

I bought the Xperia Z2 beginning of April and it was fine. The battery lasted for about 2 days with Active Hotspot continuously running for approx. 18 hours. After updating to the latest software version, the phone runs pretty hot and with Active Hotspot on, while hardly using other programs, the battery is empty after 8 hours, despite having the phone always on the charger. Several times an error message pops up, telling that the phone consumes more power, then the (original) charger is providing! Is that update rather a downgrade? Or is it the intention to get the Hotspot literally hot?

Hi there!! I've been using my Xperia z for the past one year. Till last week I didn't had any problem but now I'm not sure what happened to my mobile.. I have listed all the issues below. I really need your help and support to solve this issue and please get me a permanent fix..
    1. Battery is draining too fast(very fast)
    2. Mobile is always hot even if I don't use. When start using apps like game, browsing or watch any video, I feel that I'm holding an induction stove in my hand.
    3. "Throw" option is not working
    4. When I make a call I don't hear anything through earpiece rather I'm using loudspeaker speaker.
Plzzz help me and get me a solution.. I'm afraid to take my mobile to service center.. Please advise what needs to be done..

  • Macbook Air mid-2012 battery life issues -- a possible culprit ?

    Hi all,
I've posted and followed a thread regarding diminished battery life for the mid-2012 MBA, when Mountain Lion was released. I never could fix the problem, was contacted by Apple but that didn't solve anything either.
The troubles I was (and still am) having with my MBA were :
Battery life reduced by at least 33% when I upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion, following a firmware update.
No change when I clean installed ML.
No change when I upgraded, and then clean installed Mavericks.
My battery, after 13 months of use, had its capacity reduced to 70-80%, and has now been stable for one year at 70-80% capacity. It now lasts approximately 3 to 4 hours, and has never lasted longer than 5 hours since I upgraded to ML, which was a few weeks after the laptop was purchased...
I've tried everything that was posted on the forums, SMC resets, etc. Now to the (maybe) interesting stuff.
I stumbled today on something interesting. I was researching my issue to see if people with the same laptop, that followed the same firmware upgrade path than I did had similar issues. Long story short, a forum post led me to something interesting, located at /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/ACPI_SM C_PlatformPlugin.kext/Contents/Resources
DISCLAIMER Whatever you do, do not try to remove / move anything in this folder.
What is interesting is that my Macbook Air has the following identifier : MacBookAir5,2. However, in the above-mentioned folder, there is no MacBookAir5_2.plist, it stops at 4_2.plist and then goes on to MBP models. Now, the question that I have is could the fact that this plist is missing be related to my battery issues ? In the sense that without this file, the kernel does not know how to properly manage the power, read the battery status / thermal sensors ?
I would really love to fix this 2-year old issue that has been plaguing my laptop ever since I purchased it.
    Cheers,
    Hadrien

Edited to add a screenshot of the plists directory.

I leave my LithiumIon battery plugged in when near an outlet.  But I use it on battery down to 40% at least once a month.
Using Coconut battery (download from macupdate.com) you see my battery is just fine after 18 months:

  • Battery life inconsistency

For a week or two, my iPod touch 3rd Gen will have great battery life (usually takes a few days for it to die) then, for a week or two the battery will MAYBE last a few hours. This was happening before the new firmware update and I never really change the settings on my iPod, they usually stay the same and yet I still have the battery problem. Can anyone help me solve the battery life inconsistency issue?

Computer Renaissance told me they have special tools to take it apart and replace the battery
Yes. I read they are using an odd size screw head in their products now, so customers can not take them apart. Even the screwdrivers are hard to come by. You can't find them in a hardware store. I also read that if you take your current product in for service, they throw the old philip head screws out and put the new ones in.

  • How to extend battery life in Mountain Lion?

I have an Macbook 5,2 and recently I update Mac OS X from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (10.8.3 12D58). Current main problem is my battery life reduced from 5 hours to 1:58:00. This is crazy. Are there some applications runs on the back ground? How to uninstall useless applications and extend battery life? Looking forward to get help from this forum.

  • Battery life on WP8.1

I have a Nokia Lumia 820 and have just upgraded to 8.1 cyan.
Prior to this, the battery would easily last a day (unless I was using it a lot). Now, as soon as I start browsing or using twitter, the phone heats up and the charge drops like a stone.
I have turned off all programmes and limited the amount of apps allowed to run in the background to just the essentials which has helped a little, but not much.
I now find that to get through the day on a single charge I have to turn the battery saver app on as soon as I wake up and manually refresh my emails throughout the day.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I am not sure if my battery has suddenly lost it's ability to retain a charge or if it is a problem with WP8.1 but any advice or suggestions would be welcome!

    Hello
Very same problem since Cyan SW upgrade (3051.50009.1424.10362) in end August. Battery “life” reduced - 30%, During browsing phone is very hot. Phone restart itself many times and need SIM unlock. SW has been reloaded with SW recovery tool and no effect.
Also problem with SMS since same SMS resented 3-7 times. Microsoft will deliver SW fix for that in near future (?)

  • N82 battery life getting worse

    Hi
I've had a black N82 for about 3 weeks and over the past few days noticed that the battery life is getting worse.
I charged it one evening last week and within 24 hours it had fully discharged. Over that time I did not take or receive any calls, send or receive any texts. I kept WLAN scanning switched off and played a small 30 second clip of video once. For about half of the time the phone was in a strong 3G area.
I recharged it again and within 18 hours I had 3 bars left (this time I had used WLAN for about 10 mins and sent a couple of texts). Left on "active standby" overnight (as usual) in a wek 3G area it had discharged by the following morning.
For the first two weeks of ownership I have been able to get much more use out of the phone between charges. I have not changed the useage of the phone since I owned it but I now find I am charging it almost once a day rather than once every 3 days.
Am I doing anything wrong? As I live in a weak 3G area wondered if I am better of switching off 3G and if so how I do so. I think I spend about half the time in a strong 3G area (at work etc).
    Any advice gratefully received.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Have you installed any 3rd party applications recently? That could explain why your battery performance has got worse.
I once installed a screensaver on my old N80 and whilst it looked fancy it pretty much killed my battery within half a day's use. As soon as I removed the application the battery performance returned to normal, which for the N80 wasn't that brilliant anyway
    Just a thought.
*EDIT* I just had another thought, do you have your N82 paired via Bluetooth to a PC running PC Suite? This will also run your battery down rapidly as the PC Suite software will initiate a BT link automatically whenever the phone is in range and has BT activated. This will also kill a battery much faster than normal.

  • Possible Internet Tethering/Battery Life Issue

When either Cellular Data is turned Off, or Airplane Mode is turned On, Internet Tethering (Settings>General>Network) appears to have some process that runs continually in the background (evident by continuously spinning wheel next to the option). The running process has a demonstratively negative impact on battery life (1/3 reduction in ~ 30 mins). The Apple Genius at my local Apple Store and I verified the issue on numerous iPhone 4s that were on display. Turning Cellular Data On and ensuring the phone is not in Airplane Mode stops the activity. But obviously that defeats the purpose of having those options.
So if you are experiencing poor battery life, this might be your issue.
