N73- contact thumbnail.

Could anyone please tell me if it is possible to increase the size of the thumbnail of a contact to a full screen image when I receive a call from the contact. I know it is possible on some other Nokia phones but I am unable to find how it is done.
Thank you.

  • N97 contacts thumbnail size

Hi please does anyone here know the proper size (in pixels) for contacts thumbnails on n97 to be shown with no cuts when the person calls me?

Then click the down arrow at the right-hand end of the toolbar and select Thumbnail Size....

  • Allow to have the file name with extension in contacts thumbnails

When I print a contact sheet from the Print module, I would like to have the option to have under each thumbnail the file name complete with the extension; e.g. "Sample.jpg". Right now I can only have the file name, e.g. "Sample".

I think you are talking about unzipping or extracting the contents
of the Zip file. Use the API in 'java.util.zip'
    For code refer to
    http://www.javaalmanac.com
There you would find the code!!
    Good luck!!

  • N73 Contact List

All my contacts are sorted in 'surname:first name' style. When I am searching for a number I access contacts then hit keypad letter of required surname to go straight to that section...however.......the n73 always starts the list with any contacts that have their first names beginning with the typed letter then follows with the contacts whoise surname begins with the selected letter.....all previous Nokia's I've had ignore first names in this type of search....can i get the n73 to also do this??

Hello, are you in latest FW?
For pattern of searchin contacts has always been a headache for many of us nokia owners I make a tricky solution for myself:
When I make a contact I write the name full down on the first name, leavin the second name space blank.

  • N73 Contacts searching

Hi, I have a very irritating problem that I'm sure others must have encountered! I have just got a new N73 and trasnferred all my numbers across from my old Nokia - they've automatically gone into Last name in the contacts. Now, when I search in my contacts it does not take me to the number I want. For example: searching for Dad mobile. Whereas I used to be able simply type D and it would take me directly to Dad mobile (as it was the first D) if I now type Dad or D it will take me to any other entry with Dad in it - Mark's Dad or Claire's Dad - obviously it is searching alphabetically by the last bit of the name - do you think Nokia know how annopying this is!! My question is if anyone has had this problem or figured out a work around that doesn't involve me entering over 300 contacts again?! Similarly with Home - whereas I used to be able type H or Ho and it would take me directly to Home it now takes me to Alan Home, Chris Home, Sarah Home etc etc before the one I actually want. I just want it to search alphabetically by the first letter or the entry. Any ideas? Thank you in advance for your help, Amy

Is not a problem, but the way that now works. On first S60 devices, is like you said, d.. a.., etc. Now, when you type d, came all d´s, da, all da´s, and the others. IS a new way of working with the name search. Some one like, others don´t!

  • N73 - Contact Groups get deleted on sync

    Hi,
Has anyone else had this problem? I have a Nokia N73 and sometimes when I sync it to Outlook via Bluetooth, the Contact Group that I have set up on the phone gets deleted (I only have 1 contact group). I've now downloaded the latest version of the Nokia PC Suite, 6.82, but how do I know this problem is not going to happen again? I have to create the group all over again, and reassign the members. Most annoying...
Any thoughts on this? Other than that, the N73 is a great phone, really love it.

  • N73 Contact list showing Arabic contacts in jibber...

    Hi,
hen I use PC Suit to view my phone contacts on the computer, it displays the arabic language contacts in jibberish format like this "ÃãíãÉ ÈíÊ".
I've checked my language and regional settings and they're ok.
    Please help.

Just to check we got this right:
arabic contacts are OK in phone ? (I assume yes)
arabic contacts are garbled in PC after you update them to PC Suite in your PC ?
Do you use the Arabic version of PC Suite ? latest version is 6.81.13.
Does your PC have arabic code pages and unicode support, see
    http://aramedia.com/win2000.htm
(I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with your phone, if it is originally equipped with arabuc support)

  • HT204150 Contact will not display Thumbnails correctly or not at all. If picture is cropped in Contacts it might show in iCloud cropped but in Cont. only in full size

I drop and crop a picture from iPhoto into the address book thumbnail and it will show until it is synced with iCloud. Then it either disapears or reverts to original size. iCloud however, has the cropped picture. Taking pictures with the Facetime camera works without a problem.
    System 10.8.1
    MBP 13 inch

    Hi,
I just wanted to add, that I see a similar problem consistently since 10.8 too.
Before 10.8 I did not use this feature.
    What happens?
I take a Photo of someone with my iPhone 5, sync it through iPhoto and then use it through contacts.
If I need to crop the picture and align it a bit everything works perfectly, till the picture gets synced to iCloud.
Than the contacts thumbnail will be updated with a "damaged" version.
The width and hight of the cropped region is right, but at the wrong position (always left lower edge of the picture).

    MacBook Pro late 2013

You should be able to delete an original image and not lose the contact thumbnail once you've attached an image to a contact to create a contact thumbnail, at least that's how it works for me. I'm unsure as to why you are having a differing experience.
If you want to store images and not have them show in the gallery then take a look at the following post:

  • Things you need to know about 6280

Hi everybody, I used to have a 6680 and I say this with regret. Why? I gave it to my girlfriend as a gift. Now that was a good sturdy functional phone. Now I bought a 6280 from Vodafone. I wanted a N70 but the Vodafone representative recommended this one. I chose to go with the 6280 because the N70 looked a little bit too fragile. She also said there are no significant differences. Well, she couldn’t be more wrong. Let me tell you why. The first thing I should mention is that 6280 is not a symbian phone! This, for who knows what it means, it is a lot. I wasn’t aware. You cannot switch between applications for one. So now since I bought it, I gave it a go, see what it is all about. Nice graphics, big screen, no problems (I read here somebody had some). The first annoying thing that hit me is the back light. Goes out in an instant. Or 10 seconds they say. Depends on how you measure time. The problem is you cannot adjust that. Neither the contrast. Nor the luminosity. Some people find these features useful. Nokia seems doesn’t. Some people said on this forum that the sliding front does not have a good grip. Mine seem to do. Navigating through folders is somewhat frustrating but this is subjective. Another thing you should know is that you cannot set the memory card as the default storage space and the phone memory is small. Just about 5MB free with … nothing on it. But I guess you can get around that and be happy with what you have. Now for the real problems. One big issue for me was synchronizing with Outlook. I got it working in the first try. No problems there. But when checking the contact list on the phone … well, disappointment. The 6280 does not record company name, job title and birthday. This is a huge problem for somebody well organized like me. Birthdates are saved in calendar but they do not show up in the contact details. Try finding a birthday through the entire calendar! Second thing that got me down is that the contact phones have no area codes. This you might say “well, it’s ok”. Not if you modify something and then you get your contact updated in Outlook with no area codes. Again BIG problem. My second frustration was with the email accounts. It was hell to figure out how to configure and then I realized. If you have multiple email accounts … you should get another phone. 6680 is good. I assume any symbian enabled phone will do. Not this one. You cannot have all the emails grouped or in separate folders at least as it is on s60 phones. No. here you have to go to “Menu – Settings – Configuration – Personal Config Settings – select other email account and activate it”. Then you go back and go into the email folder. Good job Nokia! I think they could have found a worst sequence to do it. Also, get this, I assume (99% I know) that the emails get stored in the phone memory. You have no way of moving to memory card and no way of reading office or pdf files. Note that on symbian there are applications to do it. As for the battery, I don’t know yet. It did not last one day anyway but I gave it a good run and I know it will improve after several recharges. The good things I know about this phone is that the video has a good quality. I cannot say for pictures because I do have a professional digital SLR camera and I cannot compare without being mean. It is still a phone. The radio is average. Good enough I say. Small note to end this. The phone should have predictive text input. Should, because it is not in the menu. A problem that a firmware update should resolve. I don’t know to what version since I might have the last one. It is: v 03.60 10-02-06. I would buy another model. If you are like me, pay attention to all I had to say. Cheers!

Good posts a lot of information I needed or to know, or more so wish I'd known prior to purchasing the 6280. Came across this post while trying to find resolutions to a number of the 'problems' with this model that you've listed, or for accuracy's sake functional and features missing from this phone or poorly develop, in comparison to other models.
Fact: One 'bug' that hasn't been raised in these posts is the management of a contact thumbnail's through PC Suite does work. Adding a thumbanil on the PC doesn't appear on the phone, and adding a thumbnail on the phone doesn't appear on the PC.
Oppinion: The lack of management/handling of Company name & Birthday were the killer for me!
Fact: Also I've only had the phone about 2 days now and I've had it just stop and mysteriously restart on me about 4 times. Admittly I've been using it a lot but not doing anything out of the ordinary to expect that.
Oppinion: On the plus side the screens resolution great, and the photos very good for a phone. Neat little cropping tool, but nothing to rotate. Although the camera doesn't have a protector the case can be replace fixing and scratches! The phone is generally pretty responsive, boots and shuts down very quickly too.
Oppinion: I'm probably being over critical here but the video call's camera at half arms length barely shows your whole face, at full arms length it's 'closer' to what you'd see on a passport. Although at this distance viewing the person your calling is more difficult. The phone has a good digital zoom in-out feature during a video call. But given the small portion of you shown under normal circumstances I don't imagine this would get used often. Admittly it was entertaining to keep the phone where it was and zoom in on my eye, but it's entertainment value will wear off (or maybe i could call me iridologist).

  • Nokia N71 and iSync 2.2

Hi, I just got my new N71 (great phone!) but I discovered it's not supported by iSync! (yet, hopefully). So after a bit of research on the web I finally managed to write a plugin to sync the N71 with iSync 2.2. Note that I only tested this with iSync 2.2, and afaik it will not work with previous versions of iSync.
I created the N71 plugin starting from several others for other phones (see below for resources) and it seems to work fine.
Contacts are all sync up correctly (default numbers, contact thumbnails, birthdays, etc.).
Calendar is too, except I get the apparently usual annoying conversion of all-day appointments in 24h events. I don't know if it's because S60/3ed just doesn't have all-day events; but it's not a big deal for me at the moment, we'll see how this will be handled when Apple officially supports it. Contacts' birthdays (which automatically show up in the Birthday calendar in iCal) are converted to simple non-repeated events in the N71 calendar, falling at what seem random times.
If you know how to make a plugin, the difficult bit was to find the correct ID string (with the "-1" at the end), once that was done (thanks N91 forums!) it worked like a breeze.
I did not make a custom icon, so I'm using N70's (I know, I know, not an elegant solution but I'm not that good with images...)
Below are the details of the plugin. To create and install the plugin follow Tao of Mac's howto (I put mine in ~/library/PhonePlugins)

Please note that as any similar solutions for other phones, this is a hack, and as such it's *completely UNsupported*, the sync is not guaranteed, you might stumble into unexpected problems, etc.

    http://n91php.blogspot.com/2006/05/n91-can-isync-22.html

The E62 supports both USB and Bluetooth syncing, so pairing the phone over Bluetooth is an essential part of the setup process if you choose to sync via Bluetooth. If you couldn't pair it, you wouldn't be able to sync via BT, and it wouldn't be listed as BY sync compatible.
What do you mean by 'the sync works well'?
As the phone is officially supported by iSync then of course it means it does sync well - otherwise it wouldn't be listed as an iSync supported device.

  • Photo organised in folder -- organised in album ?...

    Hi,
I have a lot of photo already organised in my computer into folders and I tried to transfer them in my N8.
--> impossible to have them organised into album in the nikia photo viewver, I 'll have to select  one by one each photo to recreate albums.
it is going to take hours for thousand of photos and it can all disapear if I might have to do a hard or soft reset.
    I am missing something ?

    Hi Everyone,
Yes, I also belong to your fan club ! When do we get a photo/image viewer or browser that will allow us to see only from a specific folder. I would be happy if at least I could restrict to one drive or memory for example only showing images on "E" mass memory and not those on the removable micro SD card. But this annoying gallery browser just find its anywhere. There are photo and image hider applications but that is not the idea in my case, as is not to hide because then you have to unhide/hide back and forth. The idea is not to see for example imported icons, contact thumbnails, etc.
Apparently I did find one file browser that will allow you to see the image as you browse the folder. I have to purchase it to try it out. It is File Browser from Migital available at OVI Store.
I hope we get a solution to this soon. It is becoming a very annoying problem.
