  • N73 dead during update - helpppp -

My nokia n73 died when I was performing an update. I followed all the instructions perfectly, but it died. I've tried to wait but without results. Now, my dead phone is still recognised by the firmware updater, but after 5 min from the start of the update is stops sayng me that he can't recognise the phone anymore or that i have to recover the phone (switch off then on and press green call, 3 and *). Please help me, I need that phone. If I'll have to take it to a care center, how long will the recovery operation take?
Please excuse for my bad english!!
    HelpHELP!

If the three-fingered salute won't revive it, then the software will have to be force-flashed onto the phone, which only a Nokia service point can do. NSU cannot work unless the phone is functioning.

  • N73 dead after updating from nokia online firmware...

can anybody help me i have a n73 it belongs to one of my customer he has a software issue.. the phone was freezing.. i tried to update it with the online firmware update from a nokia software.. after updating the phone wont turn on anymore.. can anyone help me about this issue.. thank you..

ok guys, please be advised that upgrading N73 is not something everyone can do! Please view the software upgrade page completely before upgrading your phones. It is all stated there already.
Here is a quote from the page:
Please note that not all N73 models have new software available. Nokia produces many different variants of each product (for different countries and languages) and not all variants have updated software. It is our priority to update all variants as quickly as possible and we apologize for the delay. We will let you know as soon as new variants do become available. (24-Nov-06)
Nokia N93 updates are temporarily unavailable due to maintenance. You can still download and install the Nokia Software Updater application to your computer for use with other compatible Nokia products. (16-Nov-06)
Firmware upgrading is something serious. Please read everything before upgrading it!Message Edited by mmubashar on 14-Jan-2007

  • My N73 is dead after a firmware update!

Hey i just wasted my N73, I was traying to update the firmware, I did not make a back up of the cellphone, everything was ok until NSU gave me a message (sorry for my english).. something like:
    1. Extract the battery
    2. Insert the battery and connect the charger
    3. Turn it on
And I just tought... what the hell!. I followed that steps but it didn't work. I think its my fault, beacuse I didn't restarted my pc after I installed NSU and i didn't put the cellphone in "general" mode (or something like that).
So what can I do? the cellphone is DEAD.

Yes you should have rebooted your computer as advised by the program. Also even if the procedure had been successful you would still have lost all of your data from the phones memory, that is why it tells you to back up.
First remove the battery for 5 minutes, reconnect the battery, connect it to your pc and run the updater again. Leave it for a few minutes and it should go into recovery mode (try this several times).
If not disconnect it and try a hard reset.
    Hard reset:
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
    3. While holding these buttons, press the power button and switch on the phone.
    4. Release when the phone shows the nokia logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
If that fails to fix it try the advice offered in this post by drummer27:
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=swupdate&message.id=14152#M14152
If that still fails then the last option is to take the phone to a nokia care point.

  • Dead n73

i hav a dead n73....caused during firmware update...
now my phone doesnt turns on!!!.........
can the firmware be fixed...i hav another 7 months warranty....will my phone be replaced if the nokia technicians are not able to fix my phone

Nothing just dies. Maybe a malfunction but nothing dies.
Have you tried the SW reset ?.. "3" "*" "green call button" (i think. Not sure on that one. use google to be sure).
If you have warranty on your phone, then you are safe.
Just deliver it to a Nokia Care center and they will fix it for you!

  • N73 goes dead during update

    Hi,
My N73 just went dead during the update. Can't get it back to life. On the Nokia FAQ page the ask you to take contact to you dealer/shop.
Being with no phone for several days does not seem right.
Anyone who have experienced this to the N73?
Thanks for answers (of any kind)!

Very true. Defers country to country. The APAC ones tend to be like **bleep**s.
For your problem, you gotta step to a nokia care. I dont know if you tried the 3+*+the green call key operation.

  • MY NOKIA N73 NOW DEAD AFTER UPDATING TO FIRMWARE 3...

    Hi ladies and gents
looks like other folks have had thier lovely new shiny n73's turned into paperwieghts.
followed the instructions to the letter, everything looked like it was working, the updater asked me to remove the battery and the charger for a few secs then press/hold the on button for a few secs...................then the updating process continues but then i get a message saying the update process failed and to try again which i did, only for the same thing to happen two more times!!!!??????
just wondering what other ownwers experiences have been like perforrming the above firmware update. any advice would be appriciated.

When the Software updater prompts you to do that, DO NOT unplug the phone or remove the battery at any stage. Simply check that the phone has no active connections running in the back round and click try again. The same thing happened with my N70-1 as I was using the phone as a modem at the same time that I was updating the software. I ;et the file download then when it prompted me to remove the battery I simply disconnected the modem and clicked try again and it updated with no issues at all.

  • Half dead n73

Very recently, every time I turn on my n73, the screen show the "nokia" logo for about 30 secs and then the screen goes white. It also becomes very hot. Is there anything I could do to fix this problem?

The next step is to do a hard reset.
Hard reset. Switch the phone off. Press and hold three keys together, the green key, the * key and the number '3'. While you are holding these keys, switch the phone on. Don't release these three keys before you see the Nokia hands logo.
Warning! Hard reset deletes all your phone's data!

  • Dead N73 (after attempting update)

i was updating my N73 using the software updater. it got to about 73% and then after a long wait said it had lost comms with the phone.
now all i get when i turn it on is a black lit screen and nothing else.
is there any way to recover the phone ?

I'm sorry to hear that he has had such a rough time of it. Hopefully the techs will get it all sorted out.
I'm sure that when it is over, they will have identified 3rd party PPC software running in Rosetta emulation as the culprit. Especially if he had anything from Adobe, like CS2 installed.

  • Nokia N73 Music edition phone dead while updating ...

    Hi,
I just tried to update my nokia N73 Music edition phone to the latest firmware. When I tried it, it said there is no update available, do you want to reinstall the latest firmware. I wanted to get my phone to a clean to, since most programs were misbehaving, unfortunately while upgrading it stopped at a state saying 14 secs remaining. Then after some time, it said the connection is lost.
It also displayed some instructions to remove the battery, and place usb card first, etc.. I followed all those to no avail. The phone just remained blank. Nothing happened. I have restarted my system, removed the battery from the cell phone multiple times, nothing has helped.
        Please help me.
    Thanks,
    Ashok

Sorry to hear about your predicament. Recovering from a failed update is difficult. Have a look at a post in our Pool of Knowledge section link below with steps you can take to attempt a recovery.

  • N73 UPDATE FAILED AND NOW THE PHONE IS DEAD

I started the software update but when it was almost at the end the connection broke down and the phone it was turned off. Now it won't turn back on. What is to be done? Please help me!!!

take your phone to the nearest nokia centre, as long as it is within warranty then they should be able to fix it or replace it, because as i beleive it is nokias fualt for creating insecure software that is unstable and should not even be made public if it kills phones.

  • N73 turn off and can't turn on after firware updat...

    Hi
I updated my firmware on N73 but i didn't notice that went it was uodating, the phone turn off by itself( i didn't notice) i try to turn back on but still no response...what happen guys?I follow all the step...but no avail

    Hi hanadin,
If the connection is lost for any reason during the software update process then the phone shuts down leaving the phone dead.
The handset must now be taken to a Nokia Care Point where it can be fixed easily by an engineer.
You can find the nearest NCP to you at the Store Locator

  • N73 - annoyed to hell with nokia

well n73 had it 4 less than 24 hours from orange replacment for my totally unreliable 6680 total of 16 handsets in 12 months
nice lookin handset good features but
turn the thing on and it instantly connects to wap (packet data ended using the red key ) (costing me money) not impressed, turn it off on battery out a full reset and it still does it, rang orange tech support 45 mins on hold to be told oh were not sure we will try to resolve the problem and ring you when we have a fix, totally not acceptable, put sim card back in 6680 and that goes bottoms up as well!! now forced to use a brick as a phone the 6680 is under 2 weeks old and is dead the n73 has problems but thank god for the old trusty 702 still alive and kicking
any one got or know of a fix for my N73???? as TBH im rather annopyed with my nokia build quality and software problems dont seem to be sorted, is it me or is the product totally rushed not product tested thoroughly????? since the introduction of the new "smartphones" ive had nothing but problems!!!!!!!!!!

You can thank Orange for this 'feature', many Orange variant Nokia handsets e.g. N70, N80 etc. are blighted by automatically connecting to data services and costing the owner money.

  • N73 Firmware Upgrade

I have just resurrected my N73 phone. I brought a new battery and followed the charging recommendations fully. I decided to upgrade the firmware!. This is where things went wrong. I followed all onscreen procedures on the upgrade program but before I started the upgrade I noticed that with the USB connection made between the phone and the PC, mains charging is locked out!! I therefore fully charged the phone and proceeded onwards. The download was about 75MB and would take ~ 40 mins. In that time, the upgrade caused the phone to fully discharge and wherever, it was in the upgrade would not allow the phone to charge on mains charger. I now have a N73 that will not turn on, charge off the mains - In fact it appears DEAD. Is there anything I can do to bring the phone back to life?!

Connect the charger and charge it for a while, then try turning on.
Next, take out the battery, leave it out for a while, put everything in and try turning on
Next, wait for 15-20 minutes, and then turn on the phone whilst holding down the Call, 3 and * buttons (Hard reset procedure).
If none of these help (as I fear), take it to the nearest Nokia Care point. They would charge for the service if it's not under warranty period
    Cheers,
