N73 Firmware upgrade--- bad working Voice dialing

I updated the firmware of my Nokia N73 from 268.0.0.3 to 368.0.0.1. With the older version delivered by the phone voice dialing worked. In the 268.0.0.3 I only could given voice command for the profiles not for the contacts. It didn't recognise any contact. Because of thos I decided to do the next firmware upgrade to 368.0.0.1 and now the voice dialing doesn't work at all. Each time I put the button to activate it tells me "fualty voicesystem"in dutch "fout spraaksysteem. Now it became even worser. Is there anyone who helps me out?

Thank you for your reaction. I put the firmware for the second time to my phone. Now it seems working again. When I touch the button for voice dialing it works untill then. But I may ask for every contact in my contactlist but nothing happens. When I touch the button again it is not reacting then but only the second time. When i asked for an other profile it sometimes works. In my contactlist it is possible to hear the contactname. But via voice dialing none of the contacts to choose.

Voice Dialling seems to be a bit choppy on most of the N-series models, because they use speech synthesis. Whereas this works for profile names, it's a different tackle for contact names. This is because contact names are assigned by assigned by you, the user. If you select Play Voice Tag for any given contact in your phone, it will output this name using speech synthesis. You will have to EXACTLY copy this output. And, if the name of a certain user is "John Doe Geralds", it wouldn't suffice to simply say "John Doe". You'd HAVE to put Geralds behind that, and in the EXACT same way as the device says it.
The only way to change a voice label for any given name is to change the name itself. The same goes for profile names and commands, but I wouldn't change these as the defaults work fine.
A reason because of which voice dialling may not work can also be found in the user's voice details having become useless for the phone. To correct this, go to Tools> Voice commands > Options > Settings and choose: Reset Voice Adaptations. Note that carrying this out means that ALL data collected about your voice shall be lost; you might have a bit of difficulty using voice features the first couple of times after performing this instruction. Beware to EXACTLY copy whatever the phone says, even though you know real-world pronunciation to be different. Until now, I haven't had to actually adjust the pitch of my voice to the synthesizer's pitch, but I know this would improve recognition accuracy.
Oh yeah... Sorry for my late reaction!
Best regards,

  • N73 Firmware upgrade- what changes?

I have successfully upgraded my N73 firmware from 2.0628.0.0.1 to 3.0704.1.0.1 but nowhere on Nokia website or anywhere else can I find out what changes or improvements resulted from the upgrade.
Does anyone know where to find a list of changes?
    TIA

    Thanks
I phoned my local support shop and the know this problem.
Will go there this afternoon, if they can fix it right away
it will be a fast one.
Otherwise the n73 will be replaced; they told me it had to do with bad soldering of the hardware. During FW upgrade these problems pop-up, they do not occur during normal operations......

  • WRT350N firmware upgrade not working

Hi, I've just been given an unused WRT350N router.
I've had a few problems getting it setup on my MAC (OSX 10.5.6), but it transpired they were problems using Firefox which were resolved when I started using Safari. However, I still have one outstanding problem with upgrading the firmware....
I want to upgrade the firmware from the original 2.0.10 to the latest available of 2.0.19. I have downloaded this from the Support page, which gives me a readme text file and a .IMG file which i presume is the firmware file (all instructions I have found imply it should be a .BIN file)
I have connected my router to the MAC using a wired connection and followed the firmware upgrade instructions (selecting the .IMG file), followed the rest steps (including using the hardware reset button, and the software factory defaults option), but when the router comes back up it still says its at firmware 2.0.10.
I get no error messages, and have noticed that at the end of the upgrade it does NOT display the "Upgrade is sucessful, rebooting.." message.
I have been through this several times with same results. Any ideas please ?
    Thank in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have this same problem now with firmware for  WAG54GS   the zip file produces a  .IMG file after running winzip
This file is not acceptable to the firmware upgrade as a .BIN file.
The firmware is expecting a .bin format.   It does not like this .IMG file.
The documentation all refers to .bin.
Just renaming the file as .bin causes the linksys to abandon the upload.
I am on a Windows XP.       .BIN is UNIX/LINUX terminology.    Do I have to do the firmware upgrade on Linux?
Tried to get some software to checkout the   .img file but nothing likes it.
WAG54GSv1-E1-AnnexB-ETSI-ML-1.01.05-code.img  is what my winzip gets.
What am I supposed do with this file to get it into the right shape for the     WAG54GS?
It wants   .bin file    not this?

  • N73 Firmware upgrade nightmare

Looking for advice, learned ones -
I've had an N73 for 18 months, love the phone, not so crazy on the hanging issues and general speed of operations.
So on the weekend, decided to go with what I had read here and update to latest firmware, confident that would improve things.
Downloaded latest PC Suite and Software Updater. Performed backup to both PC Suite and 2Gb Mini SD card without a hitch.
Software updater ran successfully and took me from 2.0 something to 4.XXX. Phone rebooted successfully, all looked good, just needed to restore data.
    That's where the nightmare began!
Went for restore from PC Suite, all seemed to go fine, got to the end where phone screen says "phone will restart". Nothing happened for a while, but the "OK" button was highlighted, so I clicked "OK" thinking it was waiting for permission. Phone went into restart, but only got as far as the Nokia hands screen before a blue-backed message appeared: “Phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer”
Yikes, ok, not good. Came in here, looked around for advice on similar situations and tried hard reset etc. etc. No dice, always hanging at same point.
Husband kindly took it to Customer Care on Monday for me, they "fixed" it, but didn't restore data from my backup. So when he got home, we tried backup from SD card to phone. Exactly the same hang-up happened.
Husband has dutifully taken phone back in today, again they have "fixed" it but I asked this time that they perform a restore from backup at the Centre. Guess what? Yep, same issue. Their "advice": well, it was garbled, to be honest. First they tried telling me that there was no data on the SD card, then they switched the story to "there is something wrong with the data".
I would possibly believe that if the exact same thing hadn't happened during PC Suite restore. I have the .nbu file here. Any way to test it's integrity? Can I "read" the backup somehow on PC Suite?
Incredibly, I asked Nokia Care Centre to please prove it was a problem with the card and not the phone, by using my card in another Nokia phone. Their reply: they didn't have another Nokia phone to test that. Really? I have some older model Nokias spare lying around, but I don't think the data will be compatible.
About 300 contacts there that I really don't fancy rebuilding from scratch
    Advice welcome, please.
I'm in Hong Kong, if that makes a difference.

Proud user of Nokias since 1994: Nokia 101, anyone?

At the risk of having a conversation with myself...
So much for the Hong Kong Nokia Care Centre! I *knew* that they were glossing over the problem yesterday, by insisting that the memory card and PC Suite backups must be corrupt, as the phone, in their opinion was fixed.
As it turns out, my husband also has an N73. And yesterday he decided to upgrade to an N95. So once we backed up his phone and copied his "stuff" across to the N95, I had a spare blank N73 to play with. And yep, my data backup restore from PC Suite went to his N73 just fine.
What to do now? Unfortunately husband's N73 is hammered and looking pretty shabby, whereas mine still looks good, so I actually would prefer to get mine working properly again. How to convince Nokia Customer Care that there must be something wrong with data transfer to my N73?
Or should I just give up and be glad I have my data back on a working phone (and believe me, I'm very glad about that!!)
Could it be something to do with firmware versions on the respective N73's? Mine is now running v4.0812.4.3.1 (21-3-2008). His is running v 2.0628.0.0.1 (10-7-2006). I'm not game to update the firmware on his, lest the whole thing start over again!
    Opinions??

  • N73 Firmware upgrade and PC Suite upgrade

    Help!!
I have the N73 but have no clue what version of the firmware I have - where will it tell me?
If it is not the latest I want to upgrade but the Nokia help pages say I need to have the latest version of PC Suite first - which I don't have. So I want to upgrade PC Suite BUT the FAQ says I first need to synchronise something before that - how?
It also says I then need to "Backup your phone memory to your PC using PC Suite (to preserve your OMADRM activation keys, etc.)" and "Copy the original SISX, Java, etc. installation files for your applications, themes, etc. from your Nokia hard drive or memory card to your PC. (Do not simply copy over the installed directories/files.)" - again how?
I really wish Nokia would stop assuming everyone is completely literate with all this kind of stuff - because we are not!!! Step by step idiot guides would be more than helpful please Nokia!!!!!
It's no good Nokia telling people to do this and that without bothering to tell them EXACTLY how - Nokia please note!
Anyway, if anyone can offer somne advice it would be greatly appreciated.

type *#0000# in your phone screen to see what software version you have.

  • N73 Firmware Upgrade

I have just resurrected my N73 phone. I brought a new battery and followed the charging recommendations fully. I decided to upgrade the firmware!. This is where things went wrong. I followed all onscreen procedures on the upgrade program but before I started the upgrade I noticed that with the USB connection made between the phone and the PC, mains charging is locked out!! I therefore fully charged the phone and proceeded onwards. The download was about 75MB and would take ~ 40 mins. In that time, the upgrade caused the phone to fully discharge and wherever, it was in the upgrade would not allow the phone to charge on mains charger. I now have a N73 that will not turn on, charge off the mains - In fact it appears DEAD. Is there anything I can do to bring the phone back to life?!

Connect the charger and charge it for a while, then try turning on.
Next, take out the battery, leave it out for a while, put everything in and try turning on
Next, wait for 15-20 minutes, and then turn on the phone whilst holding down the Call, 3 and * buttons (Hard reset procedure).
If none of these help (as I fear), take it to the nearest Nokia Care point. They would charge for the service if it's not under warranty period
    Cheers,

  • Nokia N73 Firmware Upgrade Problems

I just upgraded my firmware. I backed up before. I've restored the backup, and now many of my applications are missing, and so are ALL of my contacts. I know these were backed up as I remember checking the log after the backup to make sure that they were, and it said they all were successfully.
One strange thing, in my call log, and in my messages, they still have their names? And also, these were not stored on the simcard, they were stored on the phone. I also have a memory card that I didn't backup, as it wasn't needed too.
If anyone can help, I still do have the backups. Even if they'res a program that can read the nokia backups, I can just manually save contacts.
    Cheers
    Kieron

hmmm...try to do the hard reset on the phone and maybe remove the memory card and do the restore again. you know what, to prevent this from happening again in the future, make sure to copy ur contacts in ur sim card...thats what i do...

  • Graphics firmware upgrade not working

Hi, I have a 24" iMac 2008 it requires a graphics card upgrade for installing windows 7 i have 10.7 lion running, but it says on checkingavailable disks that it cannot be installed on this disk as it needs 10.6  any ideas the update says 10.6 or later

I see where you are making an error, the advice letter you pointed to refers to:
Download and install the Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 if you run Microsoft Windows 7 using Boot Camp on your iMac (with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 or 7600 GT) or Mac Pro (with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT or Quadro FX 4500) computer.
The early 2008 iMac uses the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR3 memory per

This firmware upgrade only works with Creative Zen Nano Plus players. Do not install this upgrade for other players.
You will lose all content in your player when you install the firmware. Back up any audio or data files in your player to your computer before upgrading the firmware.
To install this firmware upgrade, do the following:
Download the ZenNanoPlus_PCFW_LF__03_02.exe file into your local hard disk.
Connect your player to your computer.
    Double-click the firmware upgrade file.
When prompted to set your player in Recovery mode, disconnect your player from your computer.
Press and hold the Play button while connecting your player to your computer's USB port.
Continue to hold the Play button for about 0 seconds after connecting your player to your computer.
Release the Play button when the Find New Hardware dialog box appears on the computer screen.

Double-click the firmware upgrade file and follow the instructions on the screen.</LI>

I went ahead and updated it anyway. One little thing I noticed was now the volume only goes up to 25 like my Zen Touch instead of 40 or whatever that it did before. Same loudness, different numbers only. Other than that, I have not noticed anything different, but it seemed to work OK scrolling through a song with the old firmware. I did not, obviously, do a detailed comparison.

  • Zen Nano Plus - Connection Problems and Firmware Upgrade probl

Like many others posting on this forum, for a while I had problems trying to get my GB Zen Nano Plus to be recognized by the .0.03 Firmware Update software.
I eventually got it by doing this:
While the Firmware Update software was "Searching" for a device, I kept on unplugging and plugging in the Zen Nano Plus from the USB cable while holding down the Play button, unti it "caught". I tried this since I noticed it would initially see the unit saying "A device has been detected in recovery mode...", but then throw the unit into "non-recovery" mode and hence force the Firmware Update software to keep on searching.
Anyhoo, after it did finally "catch" it (after about 0 times unplugging/plugging while holding the Play button down), it showed my firmware as .03.02, and so I did the upgrade to .0.03. The upgrade said "Complete". I then take the unit off of USB, and put my battery back in. and. uhm. well. Now it won't turn on at all. *sigh*
So there I go again in the "unplug-plug" loop on trying to get the older .03.02. Finally caught after about 30 times (yes my hands are tired). And after downgrading to .03.02, putting the battery back in, the unit turns on fine.. WHEW.
So, beware to everyone. Not sure if I'd trust the .0.03 Firmware. Doesnt seem to work on my Zen Nano Plus, and I JUST bought the thing from Circuit City about a week ago.
And for those of you having problems getting the Firmware Upgrade to work.. try my (tiring) method.
I tried this on my Dell D600 laptop (actually used the USB ports on the docking station).

lcvdw wrote:Can you tell me what I am supposed to see if it is connected properly?
With your player connected and View, Devices by Connection selected in Device Manager navigate through as follows:
Advanced Config and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
    ->Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
    -->PCI Bus
You should then see a series of USB Host Controllers that you will have to click through in turn to find the one your player is connected to.
Underneath each controller should be a USB Hub, and then devices are listed beneath the hubs.
For my N200 I have USB Mass Storage Device, Creative MuVo N200 USB Device then Generic Volume.
Your entry should be similar but with Zen Nano Plus instead of N200.
While you're there, right-click on the entry for the hub attached to your player and select Properties. On the Power tab it will show how much current the port can supply and in the Attached Devices list it will show how much power the player needs. In my case the hub supplies 500mA and the player needs 00mA.

  • Voice dial not working after upgrading to iOS 5

After I upgraded my iPhone 4's operating system to iOS 5, voice dial is not working any more. When I press and hold the home button, voice control is enabled but only music-realted features (such as play, pause, etc) and "what time it is" work. The "dial XXX" and "call NAME" option don't work any more, and in the blue screen that is shown for voice control, I don't see the word "dial" appearing any more.
My friend who has iPhone 3GS upgraded and she doesn't have this problem.
Do I have this problem because I made a mistake during upgrade?
Is there some place where you can specifically disable/enable voice dial?
Or, is it Apple who disabled this feature, to temp iPhone 4 users to upgrade to iPhone 4S to have that feature back?

No, because I don't even know how to do that. I just restored the phone to one of the previous backups I had, using iTunes. The OS was unchanged (iOS 5) but the functionality was restored.
In this process, I lost all my applications, but my notes, contacts, etc were untouched (see below). As for apps, all I had to do was to look at the list of my apps in iTunes, and reinstall them.
If you want to do the same thing, note that you may lose your contacts or notes if you simply restore an old backup. Before you do so, enable iCloud and make sure your contacts and notes (and other important things) are backed up in iCloud. Then, after restoring your phone, enable iCloud again and it will fetch all the contacts, notes, etc that you might have added after that backup you just restored.
