N73 - Gallery is stupid.

Well, i got a simple question for Nokia.
Why add a supernice gallery button to the side of the phone, when the gallery itself is completely useless?
What am i talking about?
The simple yet idiotic fact that the gallery shows EVERY image and video file on the phone and memory card.. ALWAYS.
Regardless of where the file is, oh yes i've tried to place a certain easy-to-spot image in plenty of different folders, original and created, doesnt matter where, it always shows up in the gallery..
Luckily the phone is quite new to me, and i still dont have much stuff on it except for a handful of photos.
But imagine in 6 months or so, with 500's of photos, 100's of video clips, 100's of background images, and alot of contact images which i use solely for the purpose of being able to see who is calling instead of reading the name.
How is that gonna be practical? To flip trough all that content completely mixed up in a huge mess?
Why not just have a normal file/folder structure? Could still be the nice gallery interface, but with NORMAL folders..
Create a folder if u wanna place all the background images there, create a folder called "New Years Eve 2007" if you want that..
You know, to have some sense of structure at all!
Yes i know there is an Album feature, but seriously.
First i have to open the gallery and the phone chugs along trying to load the thumbnails of 5 photos and 5 videos, then i gotta press the select button, scroll all the way down to albums, then "show albums"..
That completely eliminates the conviniance and point of the physical gallery button!
Actually, a very easy solution would simply be to have an option to allow the Album's to be the first screen you are presented with when pressing the gallery button!
Dont get me wrong, i absolutely love this phone, and thats why its so sad that it has such a big flaw in it.
There is just no reason in NOT having a normal folder structure in the gallery. Who wants all of their images and videos completely messed up and mixed without any order at all?
Not the kind of people who buy a smartphone..
I pray that this is going to be fixed in an upcoming firmware edition.
Thank you.Message Edited by baleur on 13-Oct-2006

Stupid question here, but are you getting any photos at all? a thumbnail even? if you are, just bring the photo to middle of your screen by selecting it, then press your jogger button straight on, this will make the photo fill size of the screen.

  • Can't Reconnect

I brought a couple thousand pics into the Organizer (Get Photos & Videos / From Files & Folders) and tagged them. Now, when I double-click on a thumb in the Organizer, it says the file is missing and goes looking for it... but never finds it.
If I click on "Browse" and find the photo and click "Reconnect" it says "File already exists in the catalog." I notice that it scans my second hard drive (F:), as well as my C: drive. The full message is "File already exists in the catalog. F:\pictures\DSC-0264.jpg was not connected to C:\pictures\DSC_0264.jpg"
If I use "File" / "Reconnect" it seems to scan my whole system, but again fails to reconnect.

I am new (about 2 months) to PSE 8 and have been having a 'Can't Reconnect' problem and could never reconnect anything even when I browsed.  Long story short:  Solved the problem early on by deleting the photos causing the problem. Everything was going well when I decided to clear out all photos from Windows Live Photo Gallery.  Stupid move, I wasn't thinking.  I also know PSE 8 wants all work done in the program.   Had all photos backed up before PSE 8 was installed. I am in the process of loading all photos (about 800)  to the organizer.
Hope someone can learn from my experience.  My question is:  I did back up all my folders on cd's the night before the "BIG GOOF" - what will happen if I try to load them onto my husband's computer after installing PSE 7 or PSE 8?  Was afraid to try it on my computer.  Will there be an "encryption" in the data for each photo because of reconnect, causing the same problem making the cd's useless on either PSE 7 or 8?   I guess I could try a hand full of photos to test the waters.  Can my daughter use the cd's on her photo program (not Photoshop....), without any problem?
I don't like the Reconnect function and have, I think, disabled it. I am sure there are those who find it helpful.  All said, I like the program and feel comfortable with it.  But, I am still learning. On the positive side, I can now look at each photo with a fresh perspective for editing purposes.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • N73 - Photos not showing up in th Gallery

I wonder if anyone can help. I recently got my old N73 out as my other phone is no longer working.
I don't know if I did something to it last time I used it but when I take a photo it does not appear in the gallery. Has anyone got any ideas to resolve this.
    Thanks

Assuming your photos are on a memory card...
Connect the N73 to your PC in "mass storage" mode.
With your file explorer on the computer, go to the drive that appeared in "My Computer" when you connected the phone, and from there into the "Images" directory.
Enable the display of hidden and system files.
Hunt down and delete all directories of the name "_PAlbTN".
Disconnect the phone from the computer and the pictures should start to reappear.

  • Gallery not showing files on memory card N73 ME

i recently bought the n73 me which came with some 100 inbuilt songs. After i added songs from my PC the earlier songs were no longer displayed by the music player. Also my playlists have dissapeared. If i try to add a new playlist with same name it says the playlist exists.
All my images, videos and music on the card is not shown in gallery, earlier it was shown. I have updated the latest firmware but it has not solved the problem.

    Hey it worked for me.
There was a hidden folder called private in my memory card which i had renamed and unhidden,

  • I cant view the gallery on my N73

I was having a problem with sending messages from my N73 and fixed it by installing the sms accelerator, but now I cant view my gallery. I get an error message saying "unable to execute file for security reasons" I read a solution for the same error message but on a different phone and that said to format the memory card, which I did but I still get the same error message. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I've just realised I haven't done that yet, the one I did was a different reset that didnt wipe everything. I'll back everything up then give it a go and let you know how it goes. Thanks again
No problem - once you've wiped the phone, PLEASE don't put any data back just yet - the intention is to see whether you can open the gallery with the phone in a factory reset state. Feel free to take a few new pictures just as a test so you have something in your gallery that you can view !
Once you've established whether you can use the gallery with the phone in a "as new" state, then you can put the SMS accelerator back onto the phone and then test again.
If that all works, then you can try restoring the data to your phone, but if the issue was to do with the data in some way then putting the data back will also put the problem back ... but then again it may not - the only way is to test. Hope that makes sense !

  • Gallery doesn't show any images and videos in n73 ...

everything seemed to work fine untill today, i have hard reset my n73 2 days ago using code *#7370# two days ago because of a major problem(i was unable to make or receive calls), everything else works fine but the images and videos are not shown in gallery but i can view images and videos using file manager and by opening individual item. I can see images using another third party software photobook. Please help.

    :S,
Sorry, missed that fact. My memory is good, but short.
Try moving the "Calendar Cache" file to your Desktop. Quit iCal, and find the "Calendar Cache" file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars. Move that file to your Desktop. After that, (I remember that I recommended this before), as long as you are moving files to the Desktop, repeat the plist removal procedure once again, log out/in or restart.
You should also consider removing the "To Do's" from Mail before restarting iCal. When you open iCal turn off "Show Birthdays calendar" in iCal>Preferences...>General.
Are you syncing any data? If so, what method(s) are you using?

  • Gallery Photos on 5230

I'm probably being really stupid but I want to rotate a coupl  of the pictures in my gallery.  I've managed to work out how to rotate the pictures but can't seem to get them to stay that way.  What am I doing wrong.x

Guys i think he asking How to fit a computer wallpaper (1024*768) to 5230 screen which is 360*640.
there are two ways to do that 1; use a photo editing program on your computer to crop the image to   360*640 before you copy it to your phone or    2; after copying it to phone use built in photo editor in your phone to crop the image to fit the phone resolution.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem with N73 after firmware update

Recently I tried to update the firmware on my Nokia n73. Somehow the cable got disconnected and the phone died. I read everything on the topic here and went directly to the nearest NCS. There they repaired my phone and updated the firmware to V3.0638.0.0.30 (everything else shown after *#0000# is: 30-10-2006, RM-133, Nokia N73 (05)). But after that, I noticed that when I press the multimedia button, it opens directly the music player, instead of a list of applications. Also when I hold down the menu button it shows both the standby icon and the music one. My problem is that I mostly use the camera, not the music player, and it seems (to me) that it slows the phone down (especially when going through the image gallery). So I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to close the music player, or at least how to change back the multimedia button to a list of applications. I am using the standard 128mb miniSD. Thanks in advance and cheers from Bulgaria.

  • Not able to view images in gallery, when they are ...

    Hi,
The file explorer was showing two default images folder and I was unable to delete one of them as I was unable to view images via gallery. Then i installed X-plore and deleted one of the images folder. Now, when I click images and select memory card as storage space, I cannot view them via gallery and view them only via X-plore. Please suggest how can I correct this issue.

Maybe I am stupid but if you delete the imagefolder, it will be gone. You can set your default imagefolder: goto Media-> Camera-> Settings-> Use Memory-> Card. You can also backup your card to PC, reformat the card in your phone, because it makes default maps for images, video, audio,.........and then copy your images back to the specific folder.

  • Connect a Nokia N73 to a PC in the year 2013?

    Hi!
I have a Nokia N73 on my desk which keeps rebooting at random intervals. This used to be my phone but I gave it away to my brother. He has been using it for about a year without any problems. He did drop it once on the pavemen and the plastic screen protector got a crack. But the screen itself was not broken and it still worked. This was a long time ago. So I don't think it's anyhow related. But I'm letting you know anyway. It was only lately that it started rebooting itself, as if it has a mind of its own.
Now, given that I am the previous owner of this phone I know its history. I know that the "power on power off" issue has been plaguing N73 users as early as 2007/2008, when this was only a 1 year old model. So this is not a new issue. But I have never experienced this issue with mine. I guess it was just a matter of time, a ticking bomb if you will, before the error manifests. Now I know what that looks like.
So I'm thinking this is most probably a software/firmware issue. So I want to try to reset this thing and watch what happens, which brings me to the main problem here. Since this is an old model it's hard to do anything with this thing due to Nokias continued lack of support for old models.
I installed Nokia Suite 3.8.48 on Windows 8.1. I then connected the phone with a USB cable. I chose "PC Suite" option on the phone. Then I got this stupid error.
    USB device not recognized
So I thought that it was missing some drivers and that the Nokia Suite did not install it for me, for whatever the reason. So I googled it and found the Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver (7.1.182.0). I disconnected the phone, installed the driver, connected the phone again, and still the same error came up. I tried repairing the driver installation and it did not help.
So what do I do now? Can I expect any help from Nokia with this issue? I am not asking for much. All I ask for is some bits of software so I can help myself. The least Nokia can do in my opinion is to host their previous software releases on their website. Yes, I mean the old PC Suite, Ovi Suite, Nokia Suite, etc. I don't ask them to continue supporting it and updating it if it's discontinued or deprecated software. And of course, since it's closed source it's impossible for other folks to continue the development. But the least they can do is host previous releases. I much rather download an EXE from Nokia than from some funny place like Banana Island or whatever...
And what about those software updates? When you google "nokia software update" the first thing you find is the main page for the various flavors of Nokia software suites where you click on the type of device you have (Symbian, Windows, et. al.) and it takes you to the download link for the EXE for Nokia Suite (in case of Symbian). But there are never any download links for the actual phone firmware/software/OS upgrades. The software suite grabs the appropriate file or files and installs it automatically. But what if you need to do this sh** manually? Or what if you want to keep a deposit of previously released phone software/firmware? Obviously Nokia won't host old phone software indefinitely.
And it's not like they do their best to make the new "PC SUITE, aka. OVI SUITE, aka NOKIA SUITE, aka "SOMETHING" SUITE, fully compatible with old phone models. So users with old Nokia products would have to use some of the old software tools, tools that Nokai no longer supports, nor hosts or links to.
What if you want to downgrade from a current version to a previous version? I'm not sure the automatic software update even still works on these old handsets (e.g. Nokia N73, et. al.) and what do you do in that case? What if you just need to reflash the phone with the same firmware that's already onboard? The answer is: you won't be able to! The software suite will only check for new versions, and if no new versions are found (obviously, since it's an old product for which there is no more development) it won't present any firmware/software at all to be flashed to the phone. Great!... just f****** brilliant! Or not...
The main reason why I need the Nokia Suite is obviously because I don't want to loose any data. I would have used it to create a full backup of the phone. So much for plan A, and I don't have a plan B. This totally sucks...
So what's with the "Nokia Suite" anyway? What happened to the "Ovi Suite"? Last time I held a Nokia phone in my hands it was called Ovi Suite and it had replaced the "PC Suite". I'm guessing you guys are having trouble deciding on how to name your software?... The Nokia Suite looks a lot like the Ovi Suite to me...
Can this thing do a full blown backup of the phone? The Nokia Suite? If not, I wont' waste my time with it. It doesn't allow me to click anywhere. I can't click on the View, Sync or Tools menus. So I can't explore its functionality. Not until I manage to connect a phone to it. This sucks... it reminds me of why I moved away from Nokia in the first place.

Nokia Suite 3.8.48 is not compatible with Windows 8.1
I installed Nokia Suite 3.8.48 on my old Windows Vista PC and it worked! So I conclude that the damn thing is not compatible with the latest re-incarnation of the Windows 8 system, namely 8.1. For whatever the reason it just didn't like my Windows 8.1 computer very much. It's clearly a compatibility issue on some level. It's a brand new computer by the way, it's a desktop PC, custom built, with a clean genuine install of WIndows 8.1. I installed it myself from the retail box (full version). No issues with it whatsoever, no software issues, BSOD issues... nothing... up until now. Installing the Nokia Suite software from the same installer file worked very well on my old Windows Vista computer. No need to install any additional drivers! It just worked! All device drivers installed properly when I connected the phone. And Microsoft wants to discontinue Vista in favor of Windows 8.1... I hate those muppets.
I know I've read that Nokia Suite 3.8.48 is Windows 8 compatible, I think I read it in the FAQ, but there were no specifics about whether that means 8.0 only or 8.0 AND 8.1. So it's a guesswork! And my guess is that it's compatible with Windows 8.0 but not with Windows 8.1. Even though I know that the changes between them are slim, if any. But don't blame me for that, blame Microsoft! I'm sure Microsoft wishes that Windows 8.0 never had happened! Just like they are wishing that Windows Vista never had happened! It shows, by their decision to drop Windows Vista support on most recent Microsoft software products. Windows 7 will follow the same fate. I'm sure they just wish they could pull the switch on every previous OS version, starting from XP, through Vista, 7 and Windows 8, and make everyone upgrade to the retarded Windows 8.1.
The worst thing is... Nokia has partnered with Microsoft... what good can possibly come out of that?... There's a rumor that Nokia is working on an Android phone, known as Normandy project, or AoL (Asha on Linux). Yeah right! That will probably happen in... oh well... maybe in 100 years or so. You're way too late to the Android party. Nokia shot itself in the head when they decided to push forward with the Symbian OS and later the MeeGo. Then they started flirting with Microsoft.
I would hate to work at a company that has no clear vision of the future and no strong leadership. I pity you Nokia. What happened to you?... you used to be cool. I guess it's what happens to every company that refuses to adapt to changes and doesn't do it quick enough. You either swim or you sink. Nokia decided to sink. Not only did they sink, they sunk to Microsofts level of incompetence... I guess in a way... you guys deserve each other.

  • N73 ME SERIOUS ISSUE - PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hi,
I have an N73 Music Edition - purchased it in Jan, 2008.
It was working fine until recently I removed the memory card to clean it.
Ever since my gallery doesn't show any items from the memory card.
I've set my phone to save all new and downloaded multimedia onto the memory card.
How can I solve this problem?
Also, there's a default folder in the memory card called 'Music'.
Whenever I save mp3s in that folder, the Music Player doesn't even detect one song!
But when I save them in Memory Card\Sounds\Tones folder - all get detected.
What's the use of having this folder then?
Or how can I remedy this??
    Please help!!!
    Thanks!!!

    Hi,
you this is reason enough to create a customer message to SAP prio high?
It seems that the workflowdefinition got corrupt.
You can try to use FM SWD_WFD_REPLICATE_FROM_9999
which will try to replicate the workflow definition from version number 9999, this is normally a copy of the active version and is used for transports and for corrupt workflowdefinitions.

  • Several Software issues with N73

    Hey
Im in South-Africa and got a N73 on a contract upgrade. Since i got the phn i noticed several issues/bugs with the software. Im not complaining about the phn. I think it's a great phn, Im only highlighting the problems so that in the next firmware upgrade the problems will hopefully be dealt with.
    The problems i found were:
1 - While browsing the internet the browser just closes and returns to the standby screen. Happens frequently.
2 - Sometimes the camera takes a photo but does not store it
3 - When opening up the gallery it sometimes does not open and returns to the menu.
4 - Dont know if this is a bug, but with my 7610 i could "multitask", eg. while a Java app was running i could press the red button and return to the standby screen while the java app is still running in the background and when i clicked on the app it will return. I see that this is missing in the N73, i thought this was a great ability and would love for the N73 to do the same. I dont know if it's a firmware update or dependant on the operating system.
I hope the Nokia team takes note of these issues.
    Thanks
    A

sorry, i forgot to say my firmware version is v3.0638.0.0.1
