N73 v3.0704.1.0.1 vs v4.0726.2.0.1

Comparing the last firmware released (v4.0726.2.0.1) with a older one (v3.0704.1.0.1), these are proven to be the main Pros & Cons:
Pros:
- The Music Player from N73 ME
- New RealPlayer version
- New Quickoffice version
- "Search" app with plugins
- "Web", "Download!" & "Services" are grouped in a new folder called "Internet"
- Better memory management
- Stereo Bluetooth A2DP profile
- FOTA support under "Device Mgr."
- Switching between White balance modes (Sunny, Cloudy, Incandescent, Fluorescent) are visible in the preview window
Cons:
- Music Player starts by default with the phone OS
- A blinking cursor that appears in the right on the active call baloon
- No more "Snakes"; even worse, after installing this game manually from N95 support page the device needs about 85 seconds to boot-up
- No more 3D Effects and other sounds
- No more support for bluetooth GPS receivers under third party apps like Tom-Tom and Route66; the older v3.0704.1.0.1 used to have this kind of support
- Camera focus & shutter sounds are very louder and a second late than the real focus/shutter moments
- In Close-up mode, the distance between the camera and the subject now is way bigger (at least 8 - 10 cm)
Nokia, hope you preserve the Pros and fix the Bugs in your next FW release.

Thanks Dj_nick I appreciate your reply. Just a note to you all. Yet another opinion here to add to the vast amount.
I find the update grand. Phone is MUCH quicker loading the memory, loading the camera, or most noticable of all is browsing the gallery. the pictures load up twice as fast when cycling through the gallery. The small camera is definitely much better. less noise. Have not taken any big pics off the phone onto the PC yet but they look good in the phone and the size looks fine. not too small in KB at all.
Thats my experience of the new package. All my apps were on my memory card not my phone memory so no hassle restoring them. Im delighted with 4.07. Im sorry to hear some of you are having the sat nav issues. hope it gets sorted for you soon.
If you don't have sat nav and are just concerned about the camera etc, go for it. looks perfect to me and I take tons of pics. I've heard its sharper too, but no idea till I examine my pics on PC. the music player is better too for you non ME phones like mine. You can now seek through a track and the feel is more like an mp3 player than before.
Hope this helps.

I have a Nokia N73 and it's firmware is v 4.0726.2.0.1 26-06-2007. I have set up a IMAP email account and I have automatic email check turned on. When email arrives phone will not inform about new mail. What's wrong, anybody know?

Well I have changed my N73 to N95. But I didn't fix the problem. My email worked well on N73. Only problem was the "new mail" information. Have you got correct email settings?

  • Music Store now a download, not a website??

What is going on with the Nokia Music Store?
It used to be a website where one could buy and download music. Now it is trying to force me to download and install a 70 Mb program to use it.
There is no help or contact details on the site anymore. Anything I do seems to keep coming back to a page forcing me to download this file.
I'm a bit upset about this because I have money in my account, now I can't spend it without installing something on my computer that I don't want.
The reason I used Nokia in the first place was because I didn't want a load of rubbish installed on my PC like iTunes.
Well, I'm going to use a normal website like Tesco.com to download music. Nokia have gone mad.

  • N73 Model 0543566 old firmware and bluetooth

    Hi all!
    I have a N73 with firmware:
    V 3.0704.1.0.1
    19-01-2007
    RM-133
    (c) Nokia N73 (80.01)
I am experiencing a problem with my bluetooth audio device (a JVC bluetooth handsfree addon for my car radio).
After using my car handsfree installation (it works perfect BTW), when disconnecting it, people complain about the echo on their side - like I read this is/was a well-known problem with non-Nokia BT devices.
I have read many forums and found out that after upgrading FW the problem is/should be gone.
I have downloaded the software updater but says that I already have the latest FW installed. I also checked manually with model number but the answer persists.
Strange thing is that some of users have FWs like RM-133 v4.0736.3.2.1 or so.
How come my version is latest from 19-01-2007?
Is it possible that for some revisions of N73 FW developing and updating stops or did someone just forget to upload the FW for 0543566?
Is it possible that I cannot get and update the FW on my own but must take it to service center?
    Any answers welcome!

yup, the problem is the N73 does not support Phone Book Access Profile... there were others who were successful in DL their contacts by using the application found on the link below...

  • N73 Firmware upgrade--- bad working Voice dialing

I updated the firmware of my Nokia N73 from 268.0.0.3 to 368.0.0.1. With the older version delivered by the phone voice dialing worked. In the 268.0.0.3 I only could given voice command for the profiles not for the contacts. It didn't recognise any contact. Because of thos I decided to do the next firmware upgrade to 368.0.0.1 and now the voice dialing doesn't work at all. Each time I put the button to activate it tells me "fualty voicesystem"in dutch "fout spraaksysteem. Now it became even worser. Is there anyone who helps me out?

Thank you for your reaction. I put the firmware for the second time to my phone. Now it seems working again. When I touch the button for voice dialing it works untill then. But I may ask for every contact in my contactlist but nothing happens. When I touch the button again it is not reacting then but only the second time. When i asked for an other profile it sometimes works. In my contactlist it is possible to hear the contactname. But via voice dialing none of the contacts to choose.
    best regards
Voice Dialling seems to be a bit choppy on most of the N-series models, because they use speech synthesis. Whereas this works for profile names, it's a different tackle for contact names. This is because contact names are assigned by assigned by you, the user. If you select Play Voice Tag for any given contact in your phone, it will output this name using speech synthesis. You will have to EXACTLY copy this output. And, if the name of a certain user is "John Doe Geralds", it wouldn't suffice to simply say "John Doe". You'd HAVE to put Geralds behind that, and in the EXACT same way as the device says it.
The only way to change a voice label for any given name is to change the name itself. The same goes for profile names and commands, but I wouldn't change these as the defaults work fine.
A reason because of which voice dialling may not work can also be found in the user's voice details having become useless for the phone. To correct this, go to Tools> Voice commands > Options > Settings and choose: Reset Voice Adaptations. Note that carrying this out means that ALL data collected about your voice shall be lost; you might have a bit of difficulty using voice features the first couple of times after performing this instruction. Beware to EXACTLY copy whatever the phone says, even though you know real-world pronunciation to be different. Until now, I haven't had to actually adjust the pitch of my voice to the synthesizer's pitch, but I know this would improve recognition accuracy.
Oh yeah... Sorry for my late reaction!

  • Update failed on my N73

A few days ago I attempted an update of my firmware using the NSU and it failed miserably. The download was a success but at about 80% of the installation the NSU prompted me that my phone had to be recovered. I was told to remove all power (including the battery), wait for a while then put it back in. I did this but obviously that severed my connection with the NSU and thus it reported the update had failed.
The current state of my phone: It does not even power on. I'm guessing the main BIOS and power management was where the update failed because there is absolutely no power flowing in my phone even just on charge.
I've contacted Nokia and was pointed towards a service centre which I have yet to visit. However, on the phone to them, I was told it may take up to 8 weeks to repair my phone. Obviously I'm not happy with that as I require my phone for business purposes. Has anyone else encountered this error? Does anyone have any advise for me?
    Details of phone:
    Model: N73-1
    Type: RM-133
    Code: 0544056
    Firmware: 3.0638.0.0.1
Was attempting to update to: 3.0704.1.0.1
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    God-bless

I've been trying to do the same thing. Actually- it's been less than a month since this dilemma happened to my phone. And it frustrates me. The laptop does detect the phone- but as an unknown device. Isn't there any way? I've suggested to my dad to just bring the phone to the service center of Nokia. But he wants me to try and fix it on my own. But the thing is that I can't. And I'm on the verge of tears because of this.
I updated the phone to a newer version- since the phone was sorta lagging, I thought, why not? I'll just update it and maybe it'll work better. But then in the middle of the update..I really didn't know it at first since the phone was flipped, with the back facing up, and the updater said something like trying to reconnect with the phone. And then when it didn't..It shut down and now the phone won't turn on- no nothing. It's black. (
    Please help me!

  • Updater connectivity problem with N73

I try to update my phone N73 using the "Nokia Software Updater". All software installed correctly and I can use it to manage my phone.
But. When I try to update the firmware the "Nokia Software Updater" can not find my phone. Step 2 - Searching for connected phone does not pass.
    Have anybody else this problem?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Please use the search function... there are many threads open already about this general problem, and some solutions are offered as well. I'll offer you one over here: try a different USB port, preferably on the back of your pc, and CLOSE ANY OPEN application, on your phone as well as on the PC (beware to shutdown PC Sync as well). Also, set your phone to ASK which Data Connection type to use. Go to Tools > Data Cable to change this option. Set it to "Ask upon connection". Setting it explicitly to PC Suite doesn't work for NSU for some odd reason, and this appears to be true for ALL models that offer this option.
Finally, if the problem persists, open Nokia PC Suite and choose Help > About Nokia PC Suite. In the dialogue that appears, click System Info. Next, see whether PC Suite RECOGNISES the Cable Connectivity drivers. This is where most people experience the problem. Note that, to use NSU, you'll need PC Suite 6.8x! (where x = 1 or 2 -- i.e. the newest available version of PC Suite!)

    N73 3.0713.1.0.2 05-04-2007 RM-133 available on NSU.

I just updated my N73 to v3.0704.1.0.1 RM-133 about 2 weeks back. Since then, I cannot connect to the internet via bluetooth (to my laptop). The internet connection works perfectly via the usb cable.
On further investigation, I found that the dial-up networking service was missing for this device. When I add it from the bluetooth setup wizard, it says service added, but when I check the services linked to the n73, it still does not show dial-up networking.
How can I get the bluetooth dial-up networking service installed again? This used to work until the firmware update was done!!!

  • N73 Firmware upgrade- what changes?

I have successfully upgraded my N73 firmware from 2.0628.0.0.1 to 3.0704.1.0.1 but nowhere on Nokia website or anywhere else can I find out what changes or improvements resulted from the upgrade.
Does anyone know where to find a list of changes?
    TIA

    Thanks
I phoned my local support shop and the know this problem.
Will go there this afternoon, if they can fix it right away
it will be a fast one.
Otherwise the n73 will be replaced; they told me it had to do with bad soldering of the hardware. During FW upgrade these problems pop-up, they do not occur during normal operations......

If you bought your phone with this firmware version, you're in luck, 'cause it's newer than the firmware for most shipped phones of this type. Unfortunately, because of your phone being a CV (Country Version), there's still no update available through NSU. I'm not sure whether there IS an update available via the Nokia Service Centres; I have heard about people having obtained firmware newer than this via the Service Centres, but I'm not sure. Anyhow, your firmware version is NOT the newest available, but you'll strike lucky only when you visit an NSC at the time... Please be aware that Nokia does frequently release new firmware versions through NSU as well, so you might want to wait for this to happen for your variant.
Where did you BUY your phone (which country)? As things stand, the only way for you to upgrade now is to visit an NSC.

  • N73 with latest software goes white screen when tr...

    Hi,
I bought a N73 on O2 network but accept and work fine with any sim card from any UK operator which means it is unlocked.. I downloaded latest update from v 3.0704 to v 4.0726
both versions when try to connect to internet say connect to tesco wap and then after few secs i got the screen all white.
Also in the menu setting wizard does not work. I done the setting for my tesco mobile sim card ( with £ 3 in credit ) with an automatic tesco sms...
What the hell it is going on?
    Please anybody help?

I mean to sync with the syncronisation feature (inside the PC Suite menu) to an Outlook 2002, under Windows Vista.
Anyway, I solved my problem : I had a corrupted record in my phone's contacts (the phone was always rebooting on the same record number, when I tried to export data). I have deleted all the phone's contact records and then reloaded them from Outlook, and now everything works just fine.
    Backup, backup, always backup ...
The question is : how could I have corrupt a record in my phone's contact ?
Thank you for answering me ;-)

I went to check software availability and there's (no surprise) STILL no update for my phone. Come on it's almost half a year now. Everybody else is running on version 3.XX and im still stuck on version 2. This is ridiculous.
At the VERY LEAST some Nokia rep could tell me that they're working on the firmware and that it WILL come out EVENTUALLY. To put my suspicions of them not doing anything about it to rest.

  • N73 Firmware Update & Restore of Phonebook/Message...

    Hey all,
I recently updated my N73 Firmware to 3.0704.1.0.1. As you know when upgrading it wipes the phone. When I restarted I restored my last backup from Nokias PC Suite to get names/numbers/messages transfered over again to the phone. Unfortunatly in doing this it seems to have removed some of the new firmware features (clock with 'am/pm' screensaver etc.). Do any of you know how to get this back? I've had a look in settings but can't see anything.
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

I've understood it's quite normal that the update prosedure may seem to stop even for some minutes and then go on again. The connection between the phone and computer will also break and then reconnect couple of times...
Are you sure, you did wait long enough before unplugging your phone (at least some minutes)?
But if your phone has the new firmware now and everything is working fine so I hope there is no problem!
