N73ME Update: Your Opinion Needed

The current firmware version on my mobile is 4.0727.2.2.1
Each time a new firmware was released i really didn't want to upgrade to it bec of the bugs i heard it contained.
And now, with the release of this new firmware 4.0812.4.2.1, i really would appreciate your opinion, is it worth that i upgrade to this fw, or should i stick to mine (knowing that i have no complains about my fw).
Thanks alot in advance

if u dont have anyting to complain about ur current firmware den i would recommend u not to upgrade ur n73 firmware. Nokia have trully destroyed the N73 with these firmware updates for example musci player crashes, camera blue noise. etc

  • Your opinion needed

I ma doing gcse art and design graphic design in school. I always do my graphics in photoshop but had to do it in firework that day (dont ask!!). Plz tell me ur opinion of it, be honest!! this is my first ever try on fireworks, i never saw or used it before!!

Well, my design style is very different! I like more minimalist looks and I do Web sites that need to appeal to broad audience ranges. I wouldn't want to hamper your vision in any way.
I think your bright pop-art-style colors are a good fit for mp3 player packaging, though. Consider who the people would be that would buy an mp3 player. Many of them are your own age, so designing for yourself is designing for your customer base.
If you're just doing work for class, then you can probably pull images off the Internet, because only your teacher will see it. In general, however, no. In most cases, when someone makes an image (no matter how), they own the copyright and if you take it and do something with it then you've created a 'derivative work" to which the original image creator still owns the copyright. If you plan on entering anything in a contest or selling anything, then your work should be original from the start, or use base imagery you have permission to use.
Some images are "public domain" and available for you to use. Putting an image on the Internet does not make it public domain. The creator of the image must specifically say that he or she is releasing it as a public domain image.
    Some reading for you:

    http://lib.sdstate.edu/GuideoftheMonth/image.html
    http://www.netknowhow.ca/nkhcrimg.html

And to look for public domain images of New York, here's a Google search:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q="public+domain"+image+"new+york"&aq=f&oq=&a qi=g-p1g9
And, all this copyright stuff applies to any artwork you create, too. Nobody can ever take it away from you; you have to release your work (or, if you're working for someone else, the copyright may be theirs).

  • Your opinion needed - generating unique ID from a URL

I am currently making a web crawler type program and before rushing straight in and coding something I thought i'd gather a few "expert" opinions so to speak ;)
A crawler obviously takes a URL, downloads it and saves it in a database somewhere. However I need to keep a record of which URLs have been previously crawled - as not to crawl and recrawl the same URL.
Ideally I need to make an algorithm which takes a String URL and outputs a unique ID for that URL - no other URL would be assigned the same ID.
After a while researching I have ran into base64 which could take a URL and output a long String of characters. I have a question here though:
    1. Is base64 always going to output UNIQUE IDs for every URL or is there a slight offchance you could have duplicates?
However even if base64 worked and it gave me the ID:
    aHR0cDovL3d3dy5qYXZhLmNvbQ==
    For the URL:
    http://www.java.com
I still have to record it in a database and search for its prescence to determine if the URL has been crawled before.
    So my question is:
Is there a way to construct a unique NUMERICAL ID for a URL?
This way, it would be much easier to find the record if all were sorted by their numerical ID number.
Hope I havent confused you, if I have just tell me!
    Thanks
    -Myles

I need a numerical representation of a URL as it would reduce the time to search for a URl to check if it had been previously crawled.BUNKUM! Sorry, but it is... you're talking about saving pooftenths of second on each database seek... but if you're web-crawler isn't inherently I/O bound (say what 2 to 5 seconds a page) then who's your ISP? and how much do they charge.
IE: Your barking up the wrong tree. Just use an MD5's, keep your "current site" in a hashset... for instance if was crawling http://forum.java.sun.com I'd load a hashset from the DB of that domain... crawl within it, and save the whole shebang back to the DB in one hit, delaying any external links until the end.. then load each of those "sites" and crawl and save them, again delaying any external links... and so on until the end of time in all probability.
And, sorry, you're reinventing the square wheel again... ever heard of jackrabbit?

    (I love google)
PS: Someone once told me that the internet has a higher probability of surviving a nuclear war than the human race... and if your solar power station also survives then maybe in about a 1,000,000 one cocker-roach might turn to the other cocker-roach and say, "Dad it's finally finished. Can I play Toad Killer 3 now?" ;-)

  • Hey guys I was  wondering do I need an anti virus software on my mac? I don't think I need it but as a first time mac user I wanted your opinion.

Just wanted to get your opinion.

This comment applies to malicious software ("malware") that's installed unwittingly by the victim of a network attack. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an attacker who has hands-on access to the victim's computer. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it. If you have reason to suspect that you're the target of such an attack, you need expert help.
All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there is another layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications that are downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Applications certified in this way haven't actually been tested by Apple (unless they come from the Mac App Store), but you can be sure that they haven't been modified by anyone other than the developer, and his identity is known, so he could be held responsible if he knowingly released malware. For most practical purposes, applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed can be considered safe. Note, however, that there are some caveats concerning Gatekeeper:
It doesn't apply to software that comes packaged as an installer. Treat all third-party installers with caution.
It can be disabled or overridden by the user.
It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets (see below.)
It only applies to applications downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.
For more information about Gatekeeper, see this Apple Support article.
Notwithstanding the above, the most effective defense against malware attacks is your own intelligence. All known malware on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "trojan horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown one, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim. [Some reputable websites did legitimately warn users who were infected with the "DNSChanger" malware. That exception to this rule no longer applies.]
“Cracked” copies of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Java on the network (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related) is always a potential weak spot in the security of any operating system. If a Java web plugin is not installed, don't install it unless you really need it. If it is installed, you should disable it (not JavaScript) in your web browsers. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those obsolete versions has known security flaws that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. The flaws will never be fixed. Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java can never be fully trusted, even if no vulnerabilities are publicly known at the moment.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.

  • Amazon rejection - The link to Adobe AIR in your app needs to be updated - How do I change this

    Here's a message I got  from Amazon:
Device Tested : Motorola Droid (2.3), HTC Evo (2.3.3),Samsung Galaxy Tablet(2.2)
Issue: The link to Adobe AIR in your app needs to be updated so that customers are taken directly to the Adobe AIR app page on the Amazon Appstore. The Download URL is http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/dl/android?p=com.adobe.air Steps: i)Launch the application. ii)Tap on "Install">> "Appstore". Observe that the application goes to the home page of the Amazon app store for the installation of Adobe Air.
I am assumed I could change this in my xml file:
I change the URL in this line to the one they provided (http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/dl/android?p=com.adobe.air):
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?>
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.6">
However, when it is published it always changes it back to the old address. How do I prevent this?

    Thanks.

  • Is it possible to turn off the updates that make your iphone need to be activated again?

Is it possible to turn off the updates that make your iphone need to be activated again? Because you need wifi in order to activate and sometimes I don't have wifi so my iphone becomes unusable untill I get wifi again.

I'm sorry but it says 8.1.2 on my phone when I check for the info about the software.
The issue I have is that on random moments it asks me to activate my phone ( I think after an update or some kind ) but sometimes I have no access to wifi to activate it so I was wondering if I could make that stop?
I'm sorry for the strange explanation, english isn't my mothertongue

  • You Need To Update Your Browser

Not at every website, but at some, when the site first opens, I get a message/popup saying, "You need to update your browser.  Your browser is out of date and some features of this web site may not display correctly.  You can update your Chrome, Safari, Explorer, Firefox browser..."  Each one is a clickable link.  Usually, I can click on an "X" or just somewhere else in the web site to continue browsing.
I'm running Safari 5.1.10.  Isn't that the most up to date version for OS 10.6.8?  Are they saying I need to update my OS; isn't that the only way to update Safari?

Use Firefox if you want to stay with 10.6. It is still being updated.
    Firefox
Will that automactically also update iTunes?
Yes, iTunes will appear as an update.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
    Application Compatibility
    Applications Compatibility (2)
    Do a backup before installing.
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.
Bootable USB Flash Drive – Diskmaker X
One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.

  • Buying a Macbook pro for the first time and i need your opinion

Hello everyone! I'm buying a Macbook pro for the first time and i need your opinion. I'm a Web Developer / Graphic Designer, and i need this macbook for my work. Currently i have these 2 options:
    1) Macbook Pro with Retina (13")
    128GB SSD, 2.5GHz Intel i5 Processor, 8GB Ram
    2) Macbook Pro i7 (15")
    Intel  i7 2.6 Processor, 8GB Ram, 750GB HD
So my dilema is. Do i go for the newest 13" Macbook Pro Retina & SSD drive or do i go for the 15" Macbook Pro i7 non-Retina, non-SSD hard drive?
Help this first time Macbook buyer (me) to decide which model to choose

    Your 2nd choice
    2) Macbook Pro i7 (15")
    Intel  i7 2.6 Processor, 8GB Ram, 750GB HD
is user upgradable. The Retina is not.
No matter what for your needs I would max out the 16GB of RAM

  • Interested in your opinion about PPBM7

Bill and I are working on a new site and a new test. It looks like it will not take much longer and is nearly ready for CS6.
We have invested lots of time in designing the new website and adding functionality and there is still as long way to go, but we are making steady progress. Note that the subscription module in not operational yet, the download file is not up-to-date, the script is not included, etc. but we would like to get your opinion on our progress and hear your comments. Everything now is only based on our PPBM5 results.
Please take a careful and critical look at PPBM6, take a look around the site and consider the navigation, layout, logic, design and - most importantly - how easy it is to find the info you are interested in and the way it is presented. Please be critical, so we can take your considerations and suggestions into account.
After you have looked over this site, you would help us enormously by filling out this survey: Click here to take survey. Note we have only a basic subscription which allows for 100 responses only, so you may be out of luck if you wait too long.

STRONG OPINION - Put Benchmark Results/Detailed Results (full table) by itself and label it "Benchmark Results Table" and move all other items in Benchmark Results section to "Benchmark Results Statistics"
    Done.
Benchmark Results/Detailed Results table features don't work at all in Internet Explorer (I have IE v9); works fine in Firefox, but many Win7 users will be using IE
Try with the new template, it may work now. Still some cosmetics to adjust though.
Would like to see new columns in Benchmark Results / Detailed results table: CPU die size (nm), # cpus (like in PPBM5), chipset (i.e. X79, C602, etc.), User Comments (i.e. so DeeDigital could explain why identical hardware went from score of 186 to 149), Disk Comments (i.e. many forum posts focus on where put scratch, projects, media, render outputs, etc.)
That may be feasible when I get the parsing of Speccy.xml completed.
STRONG OPINION - Menu design should be streamlined; This is not that large a site and When "Latest News" "Planning and Building" is up, I see 4 separate menus (at page top, Main Menu on Left, Latest News...All Pages on right, and Planning & Building a NLE System at lower left.
    Done.
    Suggestions to streamline:
    1) Only show "All Pages" for all areas; if you find you must have this level of sub-section, do it with a drag-down box at top and bottom of the section like many review sites do
    2) Have all menus at top; this is nicer too when someone wants to print something out
    Done.
Need to clearly state what versions of CS the new benchmark is compatible with
    Will be done.
Suggest adding a lifetime Platinum subscription option for say $100 or $150; that's the one I would select BTW if it were available
Also suggest dumping the Bronze and Gold options; there too many options for new subscribers
    I'm looking into that.
Update copyright to 2013 (i.e. bottom Methodology page)
"Buy a subscription" should be "Select a Subscription" since entry level is free
Remove the "We are volunteers!" banner to be consistent with new paid subscription fees; or, if the fees are purely going to internet fees, etc., explain that somewhere
Done, but working on the template now for the footer.
Font size selector is broken on Buy a Subscription page
Suggest using www.ppbm6.com instead of www.ppbm7.com to reduce confusion (it seems that you also own this domain site)
    Will look into that.

  • Many Ways to Update Your Firmware

The reasons for a firmware update differ from printer to printer, however the instructions listed on the website are basically the same.  Some firmware updates are required to resolve a specific issue, others enhance features but are not required.  You will often find a list for what the firmware enhances or fixes listed on your product's support website under the firmware's download link (continue reading for more information).
One method to determine if your product is up-to-date is to print a Printer Status Report or test report within the printer's setup menu which should indicate which firmware version the printer currently has.  Next, go to the printer's support website at www.support.hp.com and type in your product name to look under the drivers' section in order to see if your firmware version matches the most recent one found on the website.
I have found a very useful tool to help you find out, not only if your product is in need of a firmware update, but also it will locate the serial number, product number, your current operating system and system type as well as the warranty status.
--Automatically find HP Updates using HP Product Detection Utility (Google Chrome)--
--Automatically find HP Updates using HP Product Detection Utility (Internet Explorer)--
If you have ePrint functionality on your printer or a web-services menu within the front panel, in the ePrint settings, clicking Product Updates can quickly install the firmware, however, from a personal perspective, I would recommend ensuring the printer is connected via USB or Ethernet to avoid risk of the update being interrupted as this can cause permanent damage to the printer, rendering it useless.  This method may inform you no product updates are available so it is good practice to use my example above to be certain. Lastly, this will only work if your printer is connected to the network (Ethernet or wireless).
To update your firmware from your printer (these instructions were taken from the Officejet 6500A Plus):
"For easier use, HP recommends installing the firmware update through the product control panel instead of downloading the firmware update from this page. If your product is connected though a network (Wireless or Ethernet), you can easily and quickly install the firmware update directly through the product control panel. You must have an active Internet connection.
If you choose to download the firmware update from this page, your product must be connected through a USB connection.
Follow these steps to install the firmware update through the product control panel:
    1.  On the product control panel, touch the Right Arrow to display the second navigation screen.
    2.  Touch Setup, and then touch the Down Arrow to display the Web Services Setup Menu.
    3.  Touch Web Services Setup.
    4.  Touch the Down Arrow to select Product Updates.
    5.  Touch Check for Product Updates."
Using the downloaded version from the website will ensure a secure connection and will require a PC.  You will find, your operating system will determine the type of firmware update you receive at the website.  That is why the above suggestion may work in some instances but not all.
To update your firmware from your PC:
Initial Step: go to www.hp.com/support and select the region you live in.  Under the Drivers and Download Tab, type in the name or model number of your printer and press enter.  Next, you will need to know the operating system of your device you intend to use to install the firmware update.  Click here to discover your operating system.
Firmware Update Instructions (these instructions were taken from the LaserJet P1102w):
"*Please use a 2 meter (6 foot) USB High speed (2.0) cable.
1.Download the firmware update utility file to your desktop. Double click on the file.
    2. Select the printer(s) you want to update from the list.
    3. Click on the "Update All" or "Update One" button in the dialog window.
    4. Following the on-screen instruction to proceed the upgrade. During the printer firmware update, the printer's LEDs will begin flashing.
    5. Do NOT power cycle the printer or the PC during this process, or the printer may become unstable and/or unusable without further attention from HP. The firmware update can take several minutes to complete. Please be patient.
    6. To verify the update, a configuration page can be printed. The configuration page will display the current firmware revision in the product information section.
Notes: If the firmware was already up to date, firmware was not altered. Otherwise, the Utility will display a dialog box at the conclusion of the successful firmware download indicating the download is complete."
LaserJet utilities are different than the common smaller printers.  It is best to contact HP Support for assistance if you are not able to understand the difference by visiting the printer's business support website.  Large printers can come in such an array of setup options, from servers to software, what may apply to one setup may not apply to another yet it could contain the same printer.  If you have a commercial product, you may find additional assistance at the HP Enterprise Business Community which is an HP forum specific to those kinds of models.
I feel certain I just do not have enough bandwidth to go into even a general perspective on the different specifications of how to update the firmware of your commercial product.
To update your firmware through the EWS: Some models allow you to update the device through what is called the embedded web server (EWS).  You can access this page of your printer by setting up the printer on a network (Wireless or Ethernet connection) and typing in the established IP address of it into the address bar of a web-browser (example: http:\192.168.1.101).
Click here to view a forum post on how to update your printer through its EWS.
System Requirements:  Ultimately no additional prerequisites are needed beyond what I have explained above.  You are required to have already installed the software specific to your printer for most firmware updates though.  Once you click on the firmware update link provided at the website, you will see which operating systems it applies to, however, some updates are not needed for all operating systems.  For example, a software patch may be a critical update for a computer running XP but would have no affect on a computer with Windows 8 or Mac.
I have provided this information in order to explain a few of the techniques used to update your printer to its fullest capacity.  However, I have found through experience it is good practice to have an HP technician on the phone to assist you with this.  Sometimes the worse has happened in regards to power outages, "blips" in the network, or just bad luck and this step has caused the printer to go into a state that it cannot return from.  The terminology used to possibly revert back to a state prior to the firmware update is called "flashing the firmware" and this is only done via phone support and isn't a guaranteed fix.
I do hope you find this information useful as this is a question I have seen many times on the forums.  This is simply a summary of the many ways to update your firmware in case one of the methods above are not working.  For a more specific description, access the firmware link you are trying to update and read it carefully or click here to link to another forum post.
Click here to find an HP Support Contact in your region for further assistance.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.
When a solution is found please mark the post that solves your issue.

  • HT1338 I bought my macbook pro november 2011 and I still cannot use my toshiba external hard drive.  what updates do i need to get?

I don't know my operating system.  I bought it in nov of 2011.  I am trying to axcess a toshiba external hard drive.  what new update do I need to get?

You can find out your current system version by select About This Mac from the Apple menu.  To make sure it is updated, select Software Update from the Apple menu.  A Mac from Nov. 2011 is probably running "Lion," and the latest version of Lion is Mac OS X 10.7.4.
But that should not affect the connection of an external hard drive.  There are no special updates for connecting standard external drives.
Does the external Toshiba drive connect by USB port?  Is it the smaller type that gets power from the port (no conection except for the one cable), or is it larger (with its own power supply)?
