  • MSI N770 Lightning vs MSI N760 Hawk

    Hi guys.
I don't know which graphic card should I get. Originally I wanted to get XFX or Asus R9 280,but they both s**k. So I decided to think about opposite "camp" and go with NVidia based cards.
Now,I heard a lot of good things about N760 Hawk,a lot of people say that it's best 760 card which I could find. I also heard a lot of great things about N780 Lightning, but price is crazy,so I thought I could get N770 Lightning.
My shop is very limited with brands, and at the moment they don't have N770 Lightning, and they have N760 Hawk.
I've heard N760 Hawk has 5 heat pipes (compared to Gaming which has 4). So I was wondering if N770 Lightning or the Lightning series have also 5 heat pipes? How are the temperatures compared on this 2 cards?
If 770 Lightning has 5 heat pipes and it's colder.
Question is: I have XFX 450W Core Edition PSU (Best 450W PSU which exists),and I was wondering: will my PSU be enough for N770 Lightning if I'm not planing to OC graphic card?
    Tnx for your answers.
    GS.

    Hello,
About PSU: 450W is not enough for either of them. For 760 or above it is recommended to have 600W (as the minimum) power supply.
Both cards has similar cooling, but I would prefer lightning edition (hey, it's 770 not 760 which is little bit lower in performance). However if you also look for the design to fit your case, then that's up to you. Obviously if the card will run hot, most likely you will have to reapply thermal paste (very common in case of GPUs).
Your shop is very limited, but why not use this search, just pick your country Already selected for N770 lightning

  • N760 Hawk install issue

I guess it's time for my first post...
I recently purchased an N760 Hawk graphics card to put in a system I was building. The system went together fine. I booted and installed Windows 7 Pro and installed 1765482 updates. Up to this point, we're running great.
I go to install the drivers for the graphics card and I get an error stating "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue. The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." Through the course of troubleshooting, I install the card into the machine and try to boot. As expected, no video out of either the N760 or the on board graphics card.
I then try to update the BIOS (v1.7) for the motherboard. When I do this, I get the error message "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
So is there some incompatibility with this graphics card and motherboard that I'm missing? Or is there some other issue I seem to be missing? I'm at my wits end with this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    System specs:
MB: MSI Z87-gd65 (BIOS v1.3 tried to update to 1.7, 1.6, & 1.5 with same results.)
    GPU: MSI n760 Hawk
    PSU: Rosewill RBR1000-M
    CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K
    OS: Win7 Pro
    HA80

Forst, I tried using the disc that came with the graphics card. When that didn't work, I tried both of the divers that MSI had on the web page for the N760. nvidia_33165_v7864_vga.zip & nvidia_32063_win78_v64.zip Which I downloaded from here.http://us.msi.com/product/vga/N760-HAWK.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7 64

  • N760 Hawk Bios flash problem

    Hello,
My N760GTX does not display my boot options when booting up my computer and jumps straight to my desktop when I start up my pc, this way it is impossible to get into my BIOs.
This only occurs when the VBIOS is flipped to STD and does not occur in LN2. With GPu-z I checked and it appers that both STD and LN@ have the same VBIOS (80.04.BF.00.6B). The clock speeds are the same in both modes as a result of the identical VBIOSes.
I would like to flash my STD back to the original BIOS (or updated one if possible), but am at a loss on how to do that when I can't acces my BIOS as it is skipped in STD mode. I have a spare N460GTX Hawk which I could use to boot up to BIOS, but is it possible to flash my N760GTX Hawk VBIOS and more importantly, how?
I hope you guys can help me out,
    subzeroangel

So I booted in LN2 mode, flipped the switch once it was started up, flashed the bios (original) I wanted to get on there, but now it appears it was flashed over the LN2 bios...
Did I flip the switch at the wrong moment or what has gone wrong?

  • No voltage monitoring AB beta 18, GTX 760 Hawk

I noticed something with Afterburner Beta 18, when I use the "extended MSI" setting, I will lose my GPU voltage monitor. I'm using the GTX 760 hawk, what gives? I'm at a loss..

Thanks. My N760 Hawk core is pretty much at the wall with the factory OC. Memory on the other hand can bench up to +550.

  • MSI GTX 760 HAWK - 6 to 8 pin usage

    Hello,
I have a question, I haven`t found answer in no review of this GPU. GPU needs 2x8pin PSU input, however there are 6 to 8 pin reductions in package. I would like to ask, whether it is safe to use this reduction. I have PSU Enermax NAXN 80+ 500W (Model ENP500AWT) which has 1x6+2pin and 1x6pin connector - so I would use following: 1x8pin(6+2) and 1x6pin(reduced to 8pin).
    Thank you for answer,
    Peter

hi, i have my hawk connected to one 6pin+2pin connector and one 6pin connector with reduction to 8pin. It works perfectly well.
If I may ask you - what PSU are you using? I have only 500W enermax - I think it should be suciffient, bud who knows
I have recived an answer from MSI tech support which confused me a little bit:

Regarding your concern, i think you should change other PUS, N760 HAWK need 400W.you can use this link to calculator the power supply  ...msi.com/service/power-supply-calculator/
problem is, that nVidia gtx7xx-series GPUs are not included in mentioned calculator :-/ and information that N760 HAWK itself needs 400W  sounds for me a little bit overestimated...

  • MSI GTX 760 HAWK low overclocking/core voltage lock

Hello, I bought the gtx 760 hawk and i tried to overclock it, but it's overclocking potential is very low. Furthermore if I change core voltage +12mV in afterburner nothing changes. Voltage is still stuck at 1.200. There's absolutely no difference. I use ver. 3.0.0 beta 14 of afterburner. Please help.

That is what the card is guaranteed to prvide you with.
Additionally, MSI provides voltage and clock adjustments to allow users to potentially OC it even more (no guarantee). Each individual sample will yield different results. We have users that had to RMA cards because they were unstable even at the guaranteed OC'ed speeds.

I see in some reviews that they reach the power limit at the level of 185%
Review sites receive cherry picked samples that have been pre-tested and the results are indicative of what the best of the range may do. All the manufacturers try and have their best samples reviewed for obvious reasons.
The MSI Afterburner releases will be updated when Unwinder and the rest of the development team get around to it. Read the dedicated threads in guru3d

Are you able to test stronger power supply in your PC? 550W seems to me really low, especially when this GPU requires 500W at least, and GPU is the 8 core boy
Agree that PSU seems the likely culprit from the info disclosed thus far--600W (or better) with ~49-50a (or better) on the 12v rail is what I'd recommend.

Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
NV300MH.130 is normal vbios and NV300MH.141 is LN2.
Then flash the desired file with Nvflash for dos: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvflash_download.html
To do so rename the included file to .rom and create a dos bootstick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0)
Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash.

  • GTX560Ti Hawk OC problem?

    Hello,
I've bought new GTX 560 Ti hawk and I have following "problem". I can stable overclock with out increasing voltage to 1005/2010/1200. It's rock stable every test, game etc. And now is the "problem": I can add voltage (my VID is 1.037V) even to max (1.15V) but I can not overclock any single Mhz more on core. Its crash a lot. I've tried many drivers and OS's. Is this my chip limitation or some problem with bios?

Probably limitation of your particular chip, some may OC more and some may OC less, there is no guaranty what you may end up with. I could get mine to 1030 but it was not 100% stable that high. I settled on 980 for everyday use although mine required 1050mv for 100% stability.

AMD Power Play states are glitchy, and not all videos detect and run with DirectX Video Acceleration.  So max power during playback can end up on the highest power state which is not shown above.
    MSI R5770 Hawk minimum power
The uP6204 power controller used on the MSI R5770 Hawk design nominally supports 0.5625 to 1.3500V in 0.0125V steps.
With a stock video BIOS, MSI Afterburner 1.50/1.51 allows the MSI R5770 Hawk to be soft-modded from 1.000 to 1.350V in the roughly 0.0125V steps.
The video BIOS can be set as low as 0.950V but with no steps between 0.950 and 1.000V.
MSI Afterburner 1.60 beta 4 or earlier adds the AllowCaptureVoltageDefaults profile setting.  Acquiring, then changing the default GPU voltage allows "resetting" the Hawk to 0.950V in Afterburner for the highest frequency state.  This allows maintaining Power Play transitions and running the max frequency at 0.950V, where Afterburner by itself is limited to 1.000V.
The max frequency state of the Hawk is 875 MHz 1200 MHz 1.200V.  To have the most flexibilty on control the Hawk, lowest power in the Desktop/HTPC/light gaming, and the ability to manually overvolt/overclock for specific games:  run the Hawk at 0.950V in the max frequency state.
How-to work around Afterburner and the Hawk design to run 1.000V in the max frequency state. *
     1) in the video BIOS, leave the voltage as 1.200V in the BIOS--which is required for Afterburner to change the Hawk voltages in Windows
     2) in the video BIOS, change the GPU frequency of that state to something less than or equal to the maximum stable frequency at 1.000V
     3) in Afterburner, Reset to default settings **
     4) in Afterburner, change "Core Voltage" to 1.000V
     5) in Afterburner, Apply
     6) in Afterburner, Save to Profile 1
     7) in Afterburner, \Settings\Profiles\2D Profile\ & "3D Profile" choose "Profile 1" ***
     8) on each Windows startup, run Afterburner

     3) in Afterburner, confirm the voltage default setting for 0.950V--capture voltage defaults as needed using AllowCaptureVoltageDefaults mentioned above
     4) in notepad as an Administrator (Win 6.x), change the Hawk's profile configuration file to 0.950V
    example:
     [Settings]
     uP6204_Defaults=D7 20
     5) in Afterburner, Reset to default settings **
     6) in Afterburner, change "Core Voltage" to 1.000V--changing the profile setting to 0950/950 is not useful as of 1.60 beta 4.
     7) in Afterburner, Apply
     8) in Afterburner, Save to Profile 1
     9) in Afterburner, \Settings\Profiles\2D Profile\ & "3D Profile" choose "Profile 1" ***
     10) on each Windows startup, run Afterburner
     11) in Afterburner, "Reset" to re-enable 0.950V.
    *   UnlockVoltageControl in the primary Afterburner profile's [Settings] will likely be needed.
**  Only default profiles support Power Play states correctly.
*** Having a non-"default" profile in 3D results in the "3D Profile" activating instead of the UVD in the BIOS.
