N78 firmware reinstall---Ovi Error 12017

I have owned my N78 for about 2 years now, a little late to the game, so as far as I know it came with firmware version 30.014.
I am now trying to reinstall 30.014 from Ovi 3.1.0.91 on Windows 7 via the Software updates tab and the green "reinstall" text.
After clicking reinstall, the phone backs up and then the installing screen opens. I get a Windows toolbar pop up that tells me my N78 USB has disconnected--and the Ovi screen says to ignore those. When it reconnects, an error screen tells me "Something's gone wrong" with error code 12017.
I would greatly appreciate a solution to this problem. Thank you in advance.

  • E75 update using ovi suite always errors 12017

Any idea why I can't get my e75 to update I always get error 12017 using ovi suite on vista or windows 7

    I am using an N97.
Just updated my Ovi Suite to Version 3.0.0.284 today. The *#0000# --> Check For Updates command from the handset states "no updates available". Yet when connected with USB cable via Ovi Suite, I am informed that my handset needs to be updated from its current firmware version of 20.0.027.218.04 to version 22.0.110 (quite a few versions different, eh??).
My first gripe already is the inconsistency between what the handset reports and what OVI Suite reports.
Second of all, trying to update the device then via OVI Suite also gives the dreaded Error Code: 12017.
I too was a loyal Nokia fan for many years (10+), but my next handset in August this year will most probably be a Samsung.
Being a systems developer myself, I simply cannot comprehend how absolute utter **bleep** software such as a) Symbian and b) Ovi can be distributed by a reputable company such as Nokia who have all the resources (financially and otherwise) at their disposal to make their handsets a success. Is no-one monitoring the quality of their programmer's efforts, allowing non-QA'd software to spread its wings and enter the wide world to come and make our lives miserable?
    Damn Nokia.

  • N97 update issues error 12017

    Hi
can any one help me out with a situation i'm facing perhaps. I'm continuously getting error 12017 when updating fone software via OVI suite. I restarted the laptop, fone and reinstalled the application. Even when I try via fone it fails.
It fails at 3rd phase just after the fone restarts. As soon as the error appears fone switches back on again. Fone is detected  by laptop at all times.

    Hello everybody,
I've first insalled Nokia Suite 3.3.89 and tried to update firmware of my E71.
Like others, I've got the error 12017.
Then, I've read this blog and I've installed Nokia Suite 3.4.21beta and tried again.
Good news since this release have not triggered any error and proposed me
    a new version of firmware.
However, I've not completed the update since the process asked me to insall a SIM
    card in my E71.
At this time, I can't since I'm changing my Service Provider.
So I will postpone this update after the SP changing will have been done.
But I don't understand why a SIM card is mandatory. I hope the firmware update
is done by my PC/Nokia Suite using the USB cable since I've not contracted internet
    with my SP.
My PC configuration is Windows 7 SP1 64 bits.

  • HT1926 Have the same problem as many other users: tried to update iTunes on Windows 7 today; first message "unable to locate component- MSVCR80.dll was not found" then "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes - Error 7 (Windows error 1

I have the same problem as many other users: updated iTunes on Windows 7 on Jan 26, 2014 and iTunes does not open.  First message "unable to locate component- MSVCR80.dll was not found" then "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes - Error 7 (Windows error 126)". When will Apple fix this? Don’t feel like uninstalling all Apple software and then re-installing it as suggested, as I am on a terribly slow internet connection while travelling in the DR Congo.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

What may have happened is an error and a kernel panic, filling up the logfiles.
What I recommend is first to find a way to backup your data without booting the hard drive directly if it isn't already backed up, and then get Alsoft Disk Warrior to repair the hard drive.    You'll probably want an external drive from http://www.macsales.com/
And you'll want to go into Hard drive -> Library -> Logs, System -> Library -> Logs, and Users -> yourname -> Library -> Logs to remove whatever you find there.
If after booting it fills up again, start by removing all startup items in your System Preferences for your user, and rebooting in safe mode with the shift key held down. If the hard drive is over 85% full after removing the logfiles, you may want to look at what were the last applications you installed.
Peer2peer software if installed can be as bad as a virus, because it enables others to access your computer. Insecure wireless networks are just as bad, if they are WEP or no encryption and someone is within 1500 feet of your computer.
If no such software is installed, your RAM probably has failed.    Run the hardware test that came with your computer, by booting with the 'D' key.
If nothing shows up there, it can still be the RAM.   Especially if you've seen any 4 language screens telling you to restart.

I had to reinstall my Itunes account and after installing received this error: This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found.  Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.
The other error message that displayed after I tried to reinstall it was "Itunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall Itunes Error 7 (Windows error 126).
Any assistance with correcting this matter is greatly appreciated.  My ipod is fine, I just need to reinstall Itunes on my computer.

    Good morning
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
