N78: SMS.

Hi, when I want to see the date/time of an SMS I received/sent I have to enter Inbox/Sent folder, then open the message, then go to "options -> message details". Shouldn't this info be more accessible, is there an easier way to see this info?
When I enter "Messaging", is there a way to show how many messages exist in each folder (ex: Inbox 4, Sent 5, ...)?

have u checked the message centre number in use?
try menu > messaging > options > settings > text messages > message centres
select the message centre that u r currently using and check the number
if ur unsure as to what the number should be, please contact ur network/service provider in order to get it
if u have checked the number and it is correct but ur still not sending messages, try a different sim in the phone
u might also want to try clearing up ur inbox if it is too full just in case

N78 v20.149 Bug List Thread

Hi everyone, thanks for all your advice and comments now that v20.149 has been released here (only on FOTA and not NSU yet) are the changes I have noticed, along with some newly discovered bugs:
NOTE: all the documented features/improvements are performed with the Theme Effects turned on.
Changes/Improvements/New features I have noticed from v12.046 to v20.149:
Standby screen:
*While scanning for wireless networks in the home screen, instead of saying “No networks found” as in the past, it says “No WLANs available”, also some other minor name changes in this menu.
*Share online icon in standby screen seems to be different
*When going back to the music player via the standby screen, it goes straight into the player without a fading in/out transition as it did before when Theme Effects are turned on (an instantaneous response). However, for going into other sections from the standby screen the fade in/out transition still occurs.
*When Music Player is operating, and seeing the track name on the screen, and then when one song ends and goes to the next track, the speed at which this happens is much improved although not flawless (there is still some lag).
*Scrolling up and down through the entries in the standby screen is very fast and not slow like before.
Call log, Contacts and calling function:
*Calling speed (from standby screen to Contacts or Call Log) and transition to call/disconnected screens much faster and improved
*Faster resume of music playback after call is ended
*Volume bar is changed from ten dotted increment to continuous coloured volume triangle (this has also been reflected in other menus and options throughout the phone)
Maps:
*Maps updated to version 2.0
Music Player:
*Much faster interface and speed through all menus
*Pressing volume keys is much improved and faster and more accurate response than before (where it may have taken time in the past for the volume level to update)
*Music controls (i.e. Rewind, Fast forward, play/pause, stop) are no longer the same colour as the matching theme, now it is just the same light green colour across all themes
*Visualisations are still a bit slow, but faster than before
Photos:
*Transition into the Photos application is much faster than before
*Scrolling through photos and videos and the like is still jerky and thumbnails still take a while to be updated from pixelated to clear thumbnails
Settings:
*In Themes, there is a new theme called Music (very yucky looking I must admit)
*Power saver now includes “Now playing” option, so when the backlight goes off, the currently playing song and time are displayed on the screen for a number of seconds before disappearing. This occurs before keypad lock is activated, and when any key is pressed, the names of the song light up (in green or red). Also when going from one track to the next while this screensaver is activated, the date is displayed briefly.
Other:
*General speed improvements across all menus and applications
*Help function is much faster and speed improved
*New help topics added to Help function
*Speed dial now works without any lag
*New RealPlayer interface and version updated (where the RealPlayer screen is no longer displayed but grey bars on top and bottom of the video)
*About application has been updated for the year dates so that they are all “2009”.
*Installation of applications and refresh of available applications within the Application Manager is much improved and faster (although icons for installed applications are now not displayed)

*Carousel menu has new options under each heading

I have yet to check all the bugs that were documented for v12.046 in the thread /discussions/board/message?board.id=swupdate&thread.id=42047&page=4, but I will go about that very soon and document all the changes here in this thread. But so far, so good, the firmware appears to be a lot better and more stable than 12.046. Again, thanks to all users for their current feedback on problems. Remember to be sure to add your experiences with the N78 here!

My n78 froze at the standby screen when it rebooted itself during the upgrade from v12 to v20.149. The background image and active standby icons appeared, but nothing else - no network provider name, no battery or signal level indicator, no clock, no calender entries, no wlan scanning, no share online. I left it for 15 minutes or so before crossing my fingers and removing and replacing the battery (since the power button did nothing). Not a great start I thought. But it started up ok.
new/unfixed bugs
The clock alarm did not switch the phone back on after the first 5 minute snooze, but it did do the snooze resume thing when I actually switched the phone on 15 minutes later... I setup a "within 24 hours" alarm and that had no problems switching on the phone several times with a 1 minute snooze so I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning to see if my weekday alarm snoozes properly now...
The FM transmitter was transmitting at 107.5 even though the settings screen and active standby message showed 106.9 which I had set it to before the update... Viewing and saving the fm transmitter settings did update the frequency to 106.9 though.
I'm still unable to set default numbers for some contacts - the contacts app exits to the standby screen.
Unable to zoom camera/photos when musicplayer and fm transmitter activated.
improvements
At least the loudspeaker function works after using the FM transmitter now.
Playback of videos through the images app seems much improved - i.e. it actually plays video clips all the way through without freezing the picture.
I'll post more if I notice anything

Messaging Multiple Recipients (SMS)

Any idea how to send sms to multiple recipients at once with the Lumia 800?
I remember it was fairly easy with the N78.

In the To box at the top of the message type the first few letters of their name and you'll see their name appear, touch it to add it, repeat with each person.
If you have a regular set of people you send messages to you could set them up as a group to save time and just message the group.

Downloading SMS to pc

Please help! I need to know how to download sms messages from my Nokia N78. I've tried using the content copier but it doesn't work.
To top it all the screen doesn't work so i'm working somewhat blind!!
If anyone out there can tell me how to download them onto my pc so i can see them please do.

Hi the PC Suite can only copy messages for backups and will be stored under a .nbu file.. I have found a program called SMS Export and can be downloaded free from www.s60.com or mosh.nokia.com this will allow you to save the sms as .txt files on your memory card or to export them via a bluetooth and data cable connection to your PC.. this app is 100% free

Hi there, thankyou for your report on the bugs, here is my response (I too have updated to the latest v20.149 firmware):
1. this streaming internet radio feature has been removed since firmware 12.046 and has not appeared since. i believe, along with many other users here, that this is due to copyright issues, so by deactivating streaming of internet radio they are complying with appropriate copyright controls. it would be nice to stream internet radio through the FM transmitter but this probably will not come back
2. I found the same thing, i really do wish that it would stream all sounds from the phone, especially from the Maps application because the speaker is tinny. so maybe they can do something about this in subsequent firmware updates.
3. I find that the FM transmission power is variable, and not has increased/decreased with firmware updates. this is due to many factors, for example, it is summer here in Australia, and i have found that on really hot & hot and humid days that the FM transmitter struggles to send an adequate signal. hgowever, on cooler days the signal is strong and works well. I have tried this on both my car and standalone stereo in my home.
I hope these help you shed a bit more light on the issues, but I am as always holding out for the v30 firmware very soon

Nokia N78 - Date, Alarm, Messages issue after upda...

After software update of my Nokia N78 I retrieve many problems;
please see the list below:
1) Data change suddenly
for example... 26 April ... to 8 May
I noticed that this issue happens often during the week-end.
2) Alarm doesn't work for the daily scheduling
For example:
Scheduled alarm at 17:00 everyday.
sometime happen that the next day alarm doesn't start !!!
3) Alarm don't turn on the phone.
Like the point 2, but in this case often the phone doesn't wake up me !
4) The sort of SMS message.
happened that 5/6 old sms was on top list (sorted by date)
I delete this messages in order to fix this issue.

I have a great news for Nokia guys. I deleted all jobs alarm... I mean, I'm not using N78 alarms, and the date issue seem solved !
Unfortunately this is only a workaround, I'm using the alarm of my great N73
I'm an Analyst/Programmer Senior... Nokia, please, check your alarm application that most probably caused too much problem.

N78 Bluetooth problem?

Hi there,
I have a sirious problem with my Nokia N78 vs CK-1W handsfree bluetooth which is working with dx blaupunkt navigation system in my car.
Malfunction is that the connection is always restarting when I finish the call or when SMS goes. There is brak off or restart. I cant speak and use is with this phone. I have this handsfree Nokia CK-1W for 3 years and all my old nokia phones working fine.
Please help.
My software version is 12.046.

I had many dropouts and lost calls with my CK-7W and my N78-3. I had a few problems with a Jabra headset and the N78 too.
I sent the N78 back to Nokia for repairs. Not sure what the problem is but I did not pay $500 to be a beta tester.

Receiving null and [Receiving text] SMS

Hi,
Strange things on some SMS: I receive one correctly but a the end there is the text "[Receiving text]"
Then I receive a second SMS only containing null
Why is that ?

Blackberry 8310 not showing reply or send in sms text options menu

I have a blackberry 8310. iam able to recieve sms text messages but when i click to on options, there is no "reply" option in the menu for me to be able to reply to the text. The chip works fine in other phones so that tells me something in the phone is not set right. There is no option for me to even compose and fresh sms text message. Please help?

Here ya' go:
1. Get a good backup of your device: BB device backup (I keep all my backups in a separate folder created for that purpose so they are always in one place and easy to find.)
2. Download the most recent version of device software for your carrier: Downloading BB device software
3. Reinstall the device software: Clean reload of device software
4. Pull the battery out with the device ON. Wait about a minute and put the battery back in. Let the BB completely restart.
5. Once you have the device OS successfully installed you will then need to reinstall any 3rd party apps you currently have on your device: Install applications using the app loader tool
6. Complete another battery pull routine after each 3rd party app installation to reclaim memory and refresh your BB.

Email and sms notifications

One feature I would like to see on the iPhone is the ability to control its behavior based on external factors.
For example,
- At night I want my phone to shut up. No email or sms notifications, and to only ring if call is from someone I care about.
- When I have wifi I want it to check for emails frequently, but when I am using 3G I want to check manually (my SP charges for email traffic)
As a result, I am forced to choose the least common denominator - always check email manually, and never notify on new email or sms.
As far as I can tell, there is no way to do this automatically (sure, I can go into settings each time, but what a pita).

Continuity Bluetooth Calling & SMS on Macbook Pro (via iPhone 5) Not Working

Devices:
Macbook Pro Mid-2010 running OSX 10.10.2
Iphone 5 running iOS 8.1.3
*NOTE: I understand that due to the version of the Bluetooth protocol in my machine, not all continuity features are available (Handoff, Air Drop, MBP Instant Hotspot)
However SMS to IMessage and the ability to make and receive calls from my Mac should be OK according to Apple's system requirements one-sheeter:

Here's my problem.
I finally took the plunge last night and updated my iPhone 5 from 7.1 to 8.1.3 to access the iCloud Drive and additional continuity features integrated into Yosemite.
When I tried to pair my iPhone 5 with my MBP over Bluetooth, all seemed to go well for the first 5 seconds.
- Both devices were in discovery mode.
- Mac saw the phone and displayed a security code
- iPhone displayed the same security code and asked if I would like to pair with MBP
- Pairing took place. Each devices Bluetooth profile / device showed up in my MBP Bluetooth's Preferences and in my iPhone's Bluetooth.
- 5 seconds later, there's no connection between devices.
My iPhone displays:
"Connection Unsuccessful: Make sure [Macbook Pro] is turned on and in range." (The phone is 5 inches away)
Then sometimes I get this message:
"Connection Unsuccessful: [Macbook Pro] is not supported.
No rhyme or reason between the two either.
Here's the baffling part: When I activate my Phone's HotSpot function, the Bluetooth works and connects with my MBP allowing it to use my cell phone network's data for internet connectivity.
I don't understand what is going on or how to correct this? Can anyone succinctly explain how to correct this problems in layman terms?
If the devices can communicate long enough to exchange security codes and verify their identities, then use Hotspot, there is clearly a data exchange happening. Where is the break down taking place when it comes time to stay connected to so I can continue to use the limited continuity features.
I've seen this question posted before by people having problems with different model years of MBP including the most recents models, so I know it's not mutually exclusive to my model year, but cannot seem to find clarity on an answer.

Upgraded to IOS 8. iMessage has changed for the worse, losing messages now. How can I force iMessage to use SMS for some contacts?

SMS works well and is generally free for most plans here. I'd like to be able to send messages via SMS from my iPhone for many of these contacts because something changed in IOS 8 iMessage and now iMessages seem to get lost. Plus as before they can end up in multiple threads. This latter issue seems to be worse as well with iOS8 but not sure why.
For example one friend set up an iPad with her apple ID and subsequently gave it to her son. She also has an iPhone. I've been exchanging iMessage/SMS's with her which worked fine until the upgrade. Then she stopped getting my messages on her iPhone. Turns out that they were landing on the iPad. While it may be that she doesn't have things sorted correctly on her iPhone that doesn't change the fact that prior to iOS8 she could get my messages. So I'd like to designate her and a number of other contacts as SMS only.
Additionally I am seeing more multiple threads from the same contacts. Not sure why but it seems to have something to do with iOS 8 sucking in additional email addresses, e.g. @icloud.com and subsequently using these in some messages even though the contact is the same person. I've tried adding the new email address into the contact card I have on file for that person and this simply resulted in two threads with the same contact name.
Really what is up with this and why does Messages need to keep track of all this info? The only requirement to direct a message between to iDevices should be valid Apple ID's on both with a means to reference this (Phone Number, Apple ID Email Address) in the respective contact. In the absence of this the message should be sent as SMS.

I have the same problem on iOS 7.0.3. With one particular friend I receive iMessages from her just fine and I can send her iMessages from Mac OS X and Messages on iPad, but Messages on my iPhone keep sending her my messages as Text messages. I send iMessages just fine from the same iPhone. SFChuch, what ios version is your recipient using? Did they sign up on iCloud? I wonder if the problem happens with recipients who are not properly registered on iCloud or some special case like that.

HT201269 How do I add another contact / recipient to an SMS. Easy in Android, but I can't see how on my 5s. Have to create a group on my Macbook Pro (OS 9.1), but it's not getting synced via usb. I'd prefer not to use cloud.

How do I add a contact / recipient to an SMS on iPhone 5s? It's easy on Android, but I've not sussed it on the iPhone - can't create a group etc. Tried to create a group on Mac, but it either doesn't exist or won't sync to the phone with usb, nor will other contact details created on Mac. I'd rather not use the cloud. I'm sure contacts used to sync to my old iPod touch in Snow Leopard.
Is it not more logical to have the phone as the main source of this sort of data? We're more likely to update on a device we carry all the time surely?

How to find out skype user sending me sms?profile....

Hi All.
Its of high importance for me to find out the user id of an unknown person sending my wife SMS's through SKYPE. The number showing up from the sender is +442032892491. Upon googling, i found that this number is linked to Skype so if any user sends a sms without setting a number in profile, the default number shows up as above. Its very important for me to know who has been sending messages to my wife mobile. Can any one please suggest. I also tried sending a message back from my wife mobile to the same number +442032892491 but not sure if its actually reaching there.

I am definetly starting to think I don't actually have a skype name. Now I tried again since the 24 hour restriction went off. First from Skype webpage ->sign in -> forgotten your skype name? ->there I enter my hotmail address ->send mail ->
then it moves off from Skype and into account.live.com, where it's no longer asking anything Skype related:

So I obviously choose the second option last time since it's the closest available option for my problem, but then it gives me options:

So again it asked for my address and captcha, and after that I could choose to "verify my identity" by choosing the alt email, but since that is slight garbled and cannot be differented from the primary address, and I was already so pissed off from typing the same address over and over, so at that point I mistakenly wrote the main address again where it wanted to verify it by asking the whole alternative address and thus it never sent the account reset email for the Microsoft/Live account.
But since I originally had no problems with that Microsoft account, all I wanted was the "Skype Name", and since the only way to try to find it jumps into the restore Microsoft account thing, I'm assuming I don't have one which I could use to login to Skype, so all I can use is the Microsoft/Live account.
