N78 - T-mobile 3g?

Has anybody been able to use their N78 phones at 3G speed with T-Mobile? I am only able to get Edge. When I insert the AT&T sim I get 3G. Is there any special configuration required for T-Mobile?

nope nokia does not make phones that have tmobile usa 3g for its the only bloody provider that works on 1700MHz which makes it complicated. i use my phone on tmobile on edge and tho its slow its not so bad. especially when i used n85, it was actually wicked fast for edge which surprised me. so no there is no way to use 3g on tmobile usa, unless you are talking of another tmobile elsewhere in the world.....
by no phones made by nokia on that frequency i mean the current n series only, there are some low end and mid range models like two that are made with 3g in mind

Issue when opening Maps with N78

Just recently, my phone's caught some kind of little (but annoying) glitch in it's software.
Whenever i access Maps (whether through the shortcuts on the front screen, or through the menu), it brings up the 'Last devices used' section of Bluetooth.
I have options to either select one of the recently found Bluetooth devices, search for more, or to cancel.
Not a huge issue, and certainly not one that affects the phone's performance, but it still bothers me.
When i select a program, i don't want to have to keep getting rid of the other program it's opening up, before i can use what i want in the first place.
Bear in mind, also, that i use Maps when on the move in the car (in its cradle, of course). Making this glitch much more inconvenient.
Is anyone else having this problem, or (more importantly) has anyone got an idea of how to solve this?

Could only suggest proceeding down the following route in case any of the software has become corrupted.
To restore your phone to the original factory default settings, press the Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Factory settings. Here you need to enter the default Nokia lock code (generally 12345 unless altered by yourself). After the reset, the device may take a longer time to power on.
To hard reset/format Nokia N78 (all data will be lost), follow the below mentioned steps:
1. Turn off the mobile phone.
2. Press and Hold the following three buttons: green Call Answer button, “*” button, and “3″ button.
3. Whilst keeping these three buttons, press the power button to switch on the device and only release your fingers when the screen displays the Nokia Logo and the language selection menu.

Nokia N78 firmware update

Whenever i choose to update my phone (N78) software, after donwload completes from internet, at around 13~15% of updgradtion process communication (USB link) with mobile phone drops and systems propts a new hardware is found (Nokia ROM Driver) but after sometime all communication is stopped and updating software keep asking for retry but nothing happens. This is also to be noted that during the whole operation i usually close all firewalls.
Can some one guide me the correct or alternative way to upgrade my cell's software?

Nokia seems to be comitted to improve the user experience... Its really good to know that... They have to do it to survive... BTW Nokia N78 latest firm ware is a little better. The operations seems to be fast.
It has just been a day with the firmware.. So far no problem... I faced a few problems while updating the USB get disconnected when the update is about to begin... but the latest software update program has all required warning... It asked me to restart my pc and my cell phone... And try again ... I did it Alas it worked ... got it updated ...
I found a few things new :
The icons for videos (The one in old version was better) and search are all new.
I am from india. I brought this phone seeing the FM transmitter option. But after i brought the phone i found it missing.
But with this software update i got the option under the music menu :-) thanks a lot nokia.
Few problems with the camera still remains... music volume has come down a bit... the gps seems to be working a little faster.

N78 problem

Hello, I have N78 and have a problem with playing online streams. Youtube works fine but atdhe.net for example not working. It asking for flash player 9. Can anyone help me with this problem? I have searched for instalation of flash player 9 for N78 and there is no such software

The Flash Player is an inbuilt part of the phone's firmware, it cannot be downloaded separately.
Th current version for mobile devices is Flash Player Lite 3, which is roughly equivelant to Flash Player 9 on a PC, so some flash content may not be readable.
What specifically happens when you try to watch videos on thei particular site? Is there an error message? We would need to establish if the web site you are trying to use is incompatible with FPL3 or if your network streaming settings/access points could be at fault.

Nokia N78 - Power Saver Timeout reverts to default

I received the nokia N78 from vodafone on Saturday and set it up for the power saver to kick in after 30 seconds (from the sliding option scale of 1-90 seconds. I found that after the first couple of times of this functioning as requested it reverts back to a default of 5 seconds before going into power save. The requested 30 seconds remains in the settings but still the default overrides. I tried resetting this a number of times with identical results. I received a replacement handset today and attempted similar setups of this feature with the same identical results....It becomes very frustrating when your mid text or searching the gallery and the screen goes blank despite specific settings requested....Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how I can fix this???

NOKIA N78 GREAT BUT 3 BUGS (SO FAR)
Bug 1: On my N78 if I enable the "phone autolock period" to anything, the lights go off at 5 seconds and if I do factory defaults and do not use "phone autolock", the lights stay on as long as I set it to. Quite frustrating as I like my phone to "autolock always" if unattended or lost.
Workaround:
1) Factory defaults your Mobile and just don't use 'phone autolock'.
OR
2) A restart corrects everything temporarily, but after several timeouts, it returns to the 5 seconds setting.
Yes, it is really an annoying bug Nokia.
Bug 2: Weekly alarm; if I set a new weekly alarm for any future day and on saving it the day sets to today every time. This is just annoying.
Bug 3: With N78 ' in KEY-PAD autolocked mode', the alarm goes off when you press 'stop' for longer than a second, and surprise the message reader activates like postmaster.
Wakeup Nokia this firmware has been out for a while now and its time to come up with new firmware without bugggggggggssssssss....
Hope Nokia will come out with new bug free firmware for N78.

Accessing Opera files on Nokia N78

I have nokia N78 and i installed opera mobile browser on it. However through PC sync software that comes with phone i cannot access opera.ini or other files of opera.
Please some one guide

Install LCG X-plore or Y-Browser file managers on your n78. You'll be able to access all files direct from the phone and send via bluetooth to your PC.

N78 Pre-Install Dictionary Solution (work database...

Dear all,
I have been searching for the solution how to restore the pre-installed dictionary for my N78. My MicroSD card occurred ASCII code (special characters)/funny wording after perform restore from my previous backup copy.
It seems that my backup copy is corrupted and I am not able to access to all applications, musics, pictures, and etc that installed in the Memory card (MicroSD card). The last choice is to format my MicroSD card by using my mobile phone (format using computer may have trouble when install certain application, study from the internet format using computer will use different form of format.
After searching through the web and go through a lot of forums and discussion. Finally, I can get it done and back to normal.
Solution for N78 Pre-Installed Dictionary:
1) When change new MicroSD card, and open Dictionary, it prompts to install word database.
2) When download and install dictionary, it prompts to install base package.
1) Go to http://www.nokia-asia.com/A4429895 (English-Simplified Chinese Dictionary 汉语双向词典), click Download Now.
2) Follow the instruction
OR
If above steps cannot work out, try below steps: (Tested on N78)
1) Go to http://www.nokia-asia.com/A4429895 (English-Simplified Chinese Dictionary 汉语双向词典), click Download Now.
2) Save the file .zip at Desktop.
3) Extract the files to Desktop
4) You will find private -> 101f9cfe after you extracted the files.
5) Connect you mobile with USB cable, connect as "Mass Storage".
~ Note: It will not allow you to see/create "private" folder when connected as PC SUITE.
6) Once your mobile connected as "Mass Storage", in Windows Explorer, you can see "private" folder.
7) Copy private->101f9cfe from destop(Computer) into the private folder(your mobile memory card).
8) Try to open the Dictionary. It will back to normal.
I believe it also works for other phone model. No harm to try it out.

N78 firmware re-instal reports 'hardware error'

Hi there!
I looked for an update to my N78 (RM-235) firmware (12.0.46) today because the application installer in the phone reported failed installation of Joikuspot software.
NSU told me I had the latest available firmware, but could reinstal if I wanted - so I proceeded to do just that to see if it helped...
During the reflashing via USB cable there were messages at two points stating there had been a "problem with the device hardware - it might not work properly" -- or words to that effect.
Is this anything I should worry about? Maybe send the phone (1 month old) back to the carier (Virgin Mobile Australia)?
It seems to be working alright after the firmware installation, but you never know...

My opinion is that partitions cam be useful when:
1. the OS can't manage big volumes (as it was in the past)
2. the OS can't optimize the space on big volumes
3. want to install 2 or more separate OSes
4. organization (like in your case).
Now, OS X filesystem (HFS+) is robust and reliable and OS X is a multitasking system that parallelizes I/O operations like reading or writing a disk.
So if you have 2 separate hard disk the system can parallelize the operations (i.e. reading from one and writing into another one) but if you have 2 partitions the system (or better the disk subsystem) have to jump back and forth among the partitions.
About the linking schema of the Audio interfaces and the FW hard disks it can change: I connect my FW disk to the MOTU and the MOTU to the mac while a friend of mine have to put the disk before of his Presonus.

Laptop + desktop + N78 contacts/calander duplicate...

Having a copy of ovi on both my desktop & laptop, I was hoping to keep my outlook contacts and calander entries perfectly synced across them and my phone via bluetooth. Unfortunatley I have a problem when I change the date of a calander - entry I soon end up with a duplicate on my outlook calander and phone calander.
The same has happened with contacts, lets say I delete a person from my phone. They will reappear on my phone next time I boot my other computer which isn't in use, the only way to remove them is to delete them from all three devices. What am I missing here? Is it possible to sync 2 devices and a phone without all this duplicated data, whilst using all three devices at various times to add contacts and calander entries?

1st case: I have a calander entry on 24/12/2009 in Outlook, i have synced with my N78 and after sync i have found the entry on my mobile.
Next I have changed the entry date to 27/12/2009 on my mobile and synced again with Outlook, after sync I have seen only updated entry i.e. 27/12/2009 on my mobile and in my outlook, no duplicate entries found.
2nd Case: I have deleted 10 contacts from my mobile and sync with outlook
I have seen that after sync those 10 contacts which I deleted from my mobile are not visible in my outlook.
Are you using the same mobile firmware and same version of Ovisuite?
If you are using multiple systems please make sure your Ovisuite settings are same for both.
You can select Sync conflict resolution if your items have been modified in sevaral times in saveral locations
Like Device/OviSuite/Outlook
Tools> Options> Contacts/Calanders & Tasks

N78 Window Transition and Update Problem

Hello!
I finally updated the firmware of my N78. However, I noticed that not all features are functioning well. One would be the volume control. Before, I use the upper side buttons to control it when my phones either on standby, using the radio or using realplayer. And, the transition from the portrait mode (phone's normal mode) to landscape mode (mode for viewing pictures, videos, and when using the camera) is gone. Before, the screen rotates. Now, when i press my camera button, my phone goes to camera mode but the screen does not rotate.it only fades with some nasty random lines transition. actually i dont call that a transition. the same goes when i view my pictures and my videos. there is no window transition. is there a problem in my phone. what should i do?

thank you for replying mark_kehl!!! it seems that your solution worked. however, i still have other problems like the volume control button. sometimes, my phone suddenly halts when i am using music player. hmmmm... i believe that my phone is really defective. Nokia has already advised me to return this phone to the store where i bought it but... unfortunately, i dont have time. i am traveling very often and there are more important business to attend to than returning my defective phone.isnt it that nokia should really check its products before being they are put to the market. i am really bothered about this. i mean, as far as i know, nokia has the largest market share when it comes to mobile phones and related electronics... but i'm sure... because of these minor imperfections... its fellow competitors in the market will grab those unsatisfied costumers. anyway, its not my concern. i'm planning to sell my phone next year and probably, i'll buy an LG, Samsung or Sony-Ericson phone. it seems that i overestimated nokia. i committed a fallacy: argumentum ad populum... hahahahaha.
oh... it seems it is time for me to travel again...

N78 wifi connection problem

Hi all, I am in a great fix.i brought nokia n78 1 year before but i could not surf the web at my home throgh wifi . I have a bsnl wifi connection but when i try to open a page message comes web:no gateway reply and not a single site opens . I have a secured connection . I enter my password which bsnl person dad set while installing router. I cant open even a single site please help me . I will be thankful to you.

I installed the 21.002 version and I am in wifi with error: no response from the gateway.

I have done following steps:
First I setup my wifi of my computer.
Start >> Control Panel >> Network Connections >> Wireless Network Connection >> Properties >> Wireless Network >> Preferred Network >> Add >> Network Name (SSID) >> Network Key >> Confirm Network Key >> Uncheck the key is provided for me automatically >> OK.
Then Manually I configure the wifi
Wireless Network Connection >> TCP/IP >> Properties >> check " Use the following Ip Address>>
Ip Address :192.168.1.120
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway : 192.168.0.1
Perferred DNS Server : 203.145.184.13
Alternative DNS Server : 203.145.184.32
Then I configure my Mobile Phone
Menu >> Tools >> WLAN >> Refresh WLAN Connection >> Select Available Network >> Edit Access Point >> Option >> Advanced Setting >> IPv4 Setting >>
Phone Ip Address : 192.168.1.109
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway : 192.168.0.1
Perferred DNS Server : 203.145.184.13
Alternative DNS Server : 203.145.184.32
But still I am getting while connecting to the internet " No GateWay"

Please - when will N78 updates be available for N7...

Can someone from Nokia please let us know? The two updates thus far have addressed things that are effecting my N78-3 but the update is not being made available for the NAM version of the N78.
I'm getting extremely frustrated and if this continues, I don't think I'll ever buy a Nokia phone in US again.
I know Nokia doesn't sell a lot of phones here but I don't understand why they release all the updates for Euro versions and leave the US versions in the cold!

We have to start telling customer service about this. They do read/respond to emails but they say they don't see any problems. Here's the answer I got to an email asking for firmware update info:
"James, firmware on Nokia mobile phones is only updated when the update would correct a problem on the phone itself. Firmware upgrades are not updated to add features to the phone.
Your Nokia N78-3 device has been in market sin ce June, there has not been any determination for need of a firmware upgrade."
I'd suggest we all let them know what problems we're seeing.
