N79 camera

I've bought a Nokia N79 10 days ago and I have a problem with my camera. I can't find it of high resolution and it seems like it's 2 megapixels not 5 megapixels
When I capture the image immediately with one click, the image seems to be blurred (especially when I photograph texts)
To make it capture the image properly with clear text, I should keep pressing the camera button till I see the green brackets then take the photo.
Is that normal or a problem?? knowing that nokia E71 camera is completely different with clear image although it's 3.2 MP.
The same thing happens when I capture anything(especially text as well)on video.
Please I need a quick answer because I need to know if this phone is defective.
Thank you and sorry for prolongation.

You'll need to focus before taking pictures, that's what the green brackets show. The E71 had some sort of fixed-focus mode by default, and only focussed if you used the "T" key. In both cases an unfocussed picture should focus at infinity, meaning it's okay for taking pictures of distant objects, but not for anything within a few metres.
As far as video goes, most Nokia handsets currently focus at infinity for video, meaning that the subjects are blurred. The only currently-manufactured model which focusses nearby is the N86, which focusses at about two metres. Older handsets such as the N82 and N95/8GB also do this.
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.

  • N79 Camera is not working good in Auto Flash mode.

    Hello,
N79 phone which I bought last sunday, camera in falsh on mode takes photo with some greenish effect. while without flash mode it is doing good. It alse capturing video with greenish effect. please help me.
    Thanks in Advance,

There is a physical design flaw in the flash/lens housing of the N79, a small gap allows light from the flash directly onto the lens causing a white "shadow" on images taken in low light.
I've physically blocked this gap with some opaque glue but it seems from what i've read on these forums that Nokia tried to hide the problem by using software compensation in the later firmwares. Now all my flash photo's come out darker than they should be, they look quite nice when the flash is on during focusing but once the image is processed it looks bad...
Best solution i can think of is block the gap and use older firmware, unless Nokia is gonna make a special firmware version for people who tried to fix their design flaw as best they could.

  • Can there be a N79 Camera Update with Face Detecti...

Hello there, I'm yet to have this phone delivered but I'm looking forward to it. I was thrille dto hear that Nokia do updates which can also enhance this phone's cameras which is really cool. My question is if Nokia could make an update that gives the phone Face Detection, Smile Detection, and all those other modern camera features? It seems unlikely to me but I was just wondering if they could do this, and if they, can they do it soon!
    Thanks.

well the nokia n86 has this feature who knows it may be in the line down the road you can use the contact us link and suggest it to nokia there
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • N79 - change memory card from 4 to 8gb

my n79 came with a 4gb card with some Ngage demos already on it. I also installed Garmin on it.I want to change to a 8gb card so I backup everything from my 4gb card into my pc and restore it in the new 8gb card.
Everything works but Ngage demos cannot be install or play. And Garmin is missing. How do I transfer all these to the new card?
Should I also format the card with my phone even when its already formatted by the manufacturer?
    Thanks in advance

  • Turning off Camera sounds on N79

Is there anyway to turn off the click sound on the N79? I have turned the warnings sounds off... actually it makes a sound even in the silent mode.
Also, is there anyway to make the power saving setting last? The time display thing? It lasts for like a second after my screen goes blank

In some areas, camera-phones must make a sound by law so that it's impossible to photograph people without their knowing. This must be the case for you.
Not sure about the power saver.

    pls reply me..its very urgent...thanku..

You could try Videora (http://www.videora.com/) - the downside here is that they have specific versions for specific phones, and sometimes it will makea file that plays perfectly in the desired phone but can't be shared to other models. The don't show a version for the N79, but try the N96 one because the N96 is the most similar OS to yours that they offer.

  • Several severe Issues with the Nokia 808 (camera, ...

    Hey Guys,
I was a avid user of the Nokia N8 with its amazin camera features. So i made the switch to the 808. While the initial Impression was awesome, when traveling over the last few days my experience wasn't that great. There are several in part very severe issues i am having:
1st and foremost: the cameras automatic shutter speed is too low for nearly every shot. No, my hands are not too shaky, I've doing professional photgraphs since 10 years now and am able to shoot with 1/10th and lower. Yet, when enjoying a boat tour in Copenhagen and taking pictures of the passing scenerey, nearly all images have noticeable motion blur due to the slooooow movement of the boat. And this in bright daylight. The only way to bypass this was by using the sports mode - but then again you are limited to 5 megapixels. You can also notice the very long shutter time when simply taking a picture of your local metro station. MOst of the people walking by have motion blur.
This brings me to issue number 2: I really don't get why i am unable to influence the focus method. You get the Landscape and Sports mode (which use a fixed focus) but that's not available in the creative mode. So even when doing simple panoramic shots in the creative mode in 5, 8 or 34 megapixels the camera has to focus. Problem here: when shooting panoramic stills the focus sometimes decides to focus on a nearby person instead of the 'big picture'.
Issue number 3: When manually selecting a very low ISO value (for decent night shots) the Camera makes that artificial shutter sound WAY before the shutter actually closes. Therefore you THINK that taking the picture is already done and move the camera around. This results in awful images
Issue number 4: Battery usage is way to high on the 808. I was able to take my N8 around town all day, shoot over 300 (Yes, 300) images, do a bit of navigation, email, browse and tak without the battery being drained below 15%. I ran out of battery with the 808 after only 136 images, 15 mins of Navigation, Wireless Lan and 3G turned OFF. So the entire point of having a device that combines phone and camera and lasts all day is simply gone I had usage times of 3-4 days with the N8 (when not on vacation) - the 808 is drained after the first night under the very same conditions.
To sum it up - i'd like to see the following things fixed/added:
    - Behaviour of the automatic shutter
    - Option to manually select shutter
    - Option to select different focus methods (on / off ) in creative mode
    - BATTERY USAGE NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED!
    - black on white color theme for email
    - ability to select multiple images in album view like before
    - ability to get additional information on the image like with the n8 when you press and hold and select 'details'
    - Ablity to turn of autofocus in video mode
    - when deleting an email while reading the email, display the previous mail instead of the inbox
Would be great to get some feedback from you guys on that!
    thanks

Hello…I own an 808 PureView device. At the outset, I must congratulate you for creating such a marvelous device. It’s in all dimensions a brilliant Smartphone and has no major lags except a few which I would like to mention as suggestions to improve the general smoothness and usefulness of its User Interface (henceforth-UI).
The in-built gallery lacks ‘mark multiple items’ option which, if integrated, can be fruitfully used to delete or send multiple items though Bluetooth. Also, the in-built gallery lacks ‘renaming’ function which would otherwise be helpful in organizing the gallery items, and in giving custom names which are easy to remember and deal with.
The generic MUSIC PLAYER lacks the track/music search function from within the music player, and so, to search a song out of the vast collection, the user has to use the generic SEARCH application by exiting or minimizing the music player, which in itself is a cumbersome exercise. The search function, if integrated into the music player, will help a great deal in making the music experience really customized and precise as also time saving.
The in-built VIDEO editing options available in the video viewing dashboard are relatively much naïve and rudimentary as compared to PureView’s lesser predecessor, the N8. Now, since 808 is a full-fledged camera Smartphone, it is bit logical on part of the user to expect the video editing dashboard to be as efficient and complete as the photo editing dashboard of the same is.  Advance options like adding music clip can be added to the video editing console to mitigate the need of using any third party application to do so, and thus, it will further enhance the utility drawn from the cell-phone UI in terms of video editing and viewing.
The generic MESSAGING application has the default view as CONVERSATIONS view and manual selection every time is required to switch the view to FOLDERS mode. If there had been an option to make a choice in setting the folders view or the conversations view as default as per users convenience, it would have been again a smooth messaging experience.
To end up, the generic CONTACT application lacks the facility to edit the contact labels unlike the one which was available in S60 V3 devices (I owned N79 prior to owing 808 PureView and so I am well aware of this utility). Facility to edit the contact labels makes it easy to differentiate between multiple contact numbers of the same contact so as to have an ease of remembrance and clarity of use.
I earnestly hope that Nokia will incorporate some or all of these suggestions in the next-to-come firmware upgrade for Belle FP1 devices. These modifications/additions, if done and made, will make the Belle OS fully competent with its various other contemporaries as it just lacks these things but otherwise is a fluid and extremely useful OS. I request you to kindly pay due heed and consideration to my observations and work towards making the Belle OS an all-encompassing mobile platform. Thanking You.

  • Image size/quality on N79 gallery: thumbnails only...

On my N79, if I use the gallery to browse through my pictures, it shows thumbnails correctly, but if I try to view an image at full-screen, or zoom in on it, all I get is the thumbnail-sized image! Should I be waiting for images to buffer or is this something else that will have to wait for the next Software Update.
(Images are being saved at the correct size, they look fine on my computer or in the camera app.)
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.

Turns out I just had to wait a moment or two longer, it works fine.

  • Problem with N79 typing

hey! it hasn't been a month since i got it, but i have a huge problem with my N79. when i type an SMS, it hangs after typing a few characters and all i could do is restart the phone. but once i do restart it and start typing another SMS, it hangs again. it's really irritating! i can't use it to sent texts anymore. the number '2' usually appears before it hangs, even if i'm not pressing on number '2' on the keypad. i tried bringing it to a shop to get it reformatted, but the problem came back after 4 days. i tried reformatting it myself, but it didn't work. help me, please!

rick is right check for the latest firmware if you have not done so already. you can do so by FOTA in your apps or menu (software checker or device manager - tool and utilities section)
or you can go connect your phone via usb and use NSU to search for the latest firmware for your phone.
here are some other things you can do. make sure you back up all your data.
*#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list.
    *#7370# - Reformat your phone
This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. Turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button.
re-flash - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service.
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....

  • N79 Firmware update in India

I purchase N79 recently. I saw on this forum that v30 is the latest available. However when I try to update my v11, NSU says no update available. Why is that so ?
I was searching for the update by entering the product code at
    http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-upda...
And it also says the samething, i.e. v11 is latest
Any idea when the updates are supposed to be available in India.
    Thanks
    Sawan

  • How to install ovi maps in N79

Hi, I tried map loader 3.0 but all it do is to download maps from internet to the phone, but what I am concerned about is updating the maps 2.0 application itself to 3.0. Any suggestions on how to do this.
I do not think I can uninstall maps using standard method as it is part of firmware?
    Thanks

I'm actually having the same question but nokia maps updater is for updating maps, but what should i do in case if i uninstalled ovi maps from my device?
Let me first explain abit what i did and what didn't work for me:
I updated the original maps appilcation on n79 that came with firmware 11.049 through ovi suit application. then i decided to uninstall it and what i did is i removed it from add/remove system from the phone. i tried to open the old maps icon in the main menu it fails "can't open the following application. the newest version is under nokia.maps". i gave ovi maps updater a try but it fails to read data from my phone. so i searched over the internet for maps 2.0 .sis file and found it under the following link http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_Maps_2.0_4503_3.1_u.sis then i opened it with ovi suit. the thing is that the installation ends successfully but when i try to open maps application again from the menu, i get the same error as before and the installed version isn't listed in add/remove menu. i tried to reinstall the firmware, but it didn't reinstall the original maps.
What should i do now? is the only way to format my phone and install the firmware again?

  • Updating N79 to V30

I'm having a problem updating my N79 to the new firmware, which is V30. I bought the phone from the middle east, and now I am in the US, and i called the Nokia Flagship store to see if they could update it for me, but they said they could not since it doesn't have a US warranty and it was international.
    My problem with updating is:
I connect the phone to the computer, the Nokia software updater detects it, and it starts the update download. when it finishes downloading and comes to installing the updates on the n79, it fails and an error message comes up saying " for optimum connectivity connect the device directly to the computer" or something like that. And that's what I have done.
I tried to update it via FOTA, over the air because I have a Wi-Fi connection, when i search for updates it says none found, but I know there is an update greater than v20 which is v30. Please tell me what to do
And I am a little afraid of updating my phone, because i've heard of phone crashes and dead phones and all that stuff via Nokia software updater, and my phone has no warranty on it. So that's why i wanted to do the FOTA.
by the way this is the version:  Version: 20.175 RM-348 MEA

Alright first of all, I will never sell my N79. The reason I got it from the Middle East is because I wanted a Petrol Black N79. I called the Nokia Flagship store before i bought it to ask if there was a black n79, and they said that nokia doesn't ship that version to North America.
I don't know why you percieved that there was something wrong with my phone.. It's working perfectly and I came across no bug this week ( i bought it a week ago), and it was from an authorized Nokia dealer over there. But as I know, it is  better to have your device updated at all times.
Anyway I just wanted to know why it won't update and what are the risks, but the question is should I update it if i find a solution?
Considering there is no problem with the device, would you advise me to update or not? And do you think that when the time comes for the V30 update to be available at FOTA, is it safe with no risks to update my N79 over the air?
    Thank you
PS: is it also very common for mistakes to happen during the update process, like the phone dieing? I previously bought an N73 from the Middle East, and updated it here, and it worked great after the update?

  • N79 hardware quality of the display is poor

I have had my N79 for three months now. I like the phone very much, but the quality of the plastic in front of the display is really poor and gets scratched so easily.
Now you might think that this is just the usual yadayada from someone not taking care of his phone, but I am always really careful with my phone.
Does anyone else have the same problem? -or a solution (besides from attaching a screen protector to it).
    Regards,
    Carsten

You can get scratch removing products for phone screens. One was mentioned on allaboutsymbian.com recently as a way of repairing the camera lens protector, it does the same thing. Then put a screen protector on top. Any plastic display is going to scratch eventually, even glass ones will pick some up in the long run.
