N79 on a uk network?
Having decided to move back to a nokia after having a samsung i chose the N79 as my desired phone. After a lot of shopping i couldn't find this phone anywhere I am aware play are selling a simfree version for just under £300 but i would prefer just to be able to upgrade my current phone with orange and also the black version isnt available. Any ideas if the N79 will be available from any of the UK networks? Most shops hadnt even heard of the phone and dismissed the idea it even existed.

The only way to answer this is to ask your network provider. They usually have the phone software customeised to their own requirements, which can be one reason for the delays in them stocking the phones; but also the typical network will have a fixed range of devices from all manufacturers so they may never stock one company's entire range.

hi guys,i have recently bought a n79 phone just a week earlier and now i am facing a probem with the device.The network signals and the operators name just disappears suddenly any time and then signals never come back till i switch it off and then switch it on.i used a samsung phone earlier with the same network operator and no such probem ever occured.
could be an old sim card if its two years old or so it might be wise to get a new one, also can you exchange your unit or go to nokia care and see if they can make some assessment as to what might be going on ?

How to Connect my N79 through Internet on Laptop?

i am facing a problem while connecting my N79 through Internet on my laptop . i am using USB Modem for Internet Connectivity. And i want to share this Internet on my N79 through Wireless LAN . i am using Windows Vista . Please tell me how to Configure my WLAN on my laptop . so that i can use it to browse through my N79.
Please Help Me Guys .....................!!!!!!Yes, it can be done.
1) Enable "Internet Connection Sharing" on the laptop and share the connection that refers to your USB modem.
2) Ask your ISP what the IP addresses of their nameservers are and make a note of them.
3) Configure the laptop's wireless adapter in ad-hoc mode and assign it a static address on the wireless network.
4) Configure the N79 in ad-hoc mode as well, and give it a static address on the wireless network. Enter manual settings telling it to use the IP address of the laptop as its default gateway and to use the IP addresses given to you by your ISP as its nameservers.
With this, you can use the laptop as your phone's portal to the Internet, but only with your phone. This will only work with one device at a time. If you want to use more than one device at the same time you're better off buying a real wireless router to which you will be able to connect your laptop, your phone and any other wifi-aware device you might have.
NB: I don't use Windows on my machines and therefore can't give any specific information about doing this. The advanced settings needed for the phone will be described in the manual.

I have a problem with my N79.
When I try to connect the radio I found only 2 options Visual Radio and Internet Radio.
I suposse that the first option (Visual Radio) is the option to play FM radio and that it's free but when i check out my account after playing the radio i found that i've been charged.
Is there any other option to play radio that i don't know?
Can anybody help me?
Thanks,The "visual radio" part is a network service that can look up information on currently-playing tracks, download a station directory, and a couple of other things. It uses your internet connection so you'll be charged for any data used if you don't have an unlimited package.
You can't disable its internet connection as far as I can tell, nor make it use wi-fi. However if don't use the visual service or the station directory, you shouldn't have to go online.

N79 no gateway reply after update
I updated N79 via Internet through wi-fi. After that I can't browse, I can't log in into messengers via wi-fi. So the phone connects to the network but there's no Internet connection whatsoever. Help me, please.
mine works ok after the update. have you tried reformat your phone?
are you using your own wifi? try without any security measures first

I have an N79, my service provider has a good GPRS service but when I try to connect my MSN or Web browser it says "cannot connect as phone is in offline mode or I do not have a data connection, please check your access points and network settings and try again" or the message is "packet data connection not available". When I connect the phone to my laptop and connect through the PC suite the GPRS works just fine but I cannot login to my MSN messenger or browse the web when using the phone only.

Well, I can't give you the exact directions, since I can't see your computer, and don't know what firewall you have.
But here's some general instructions that get you in the right direction:
"START -> [All] Programs -> [go to the name of your security software on this menu] (i.e., Norton, McAffe, Microsoft etc.)".
When you reach to your security program window, try to find "Internet protection" or the like. Find your "firewall settings", and turn the entire firewall "off". Close the program, close iTunes, and try opening iTunes again.
Now, you can't operate all the time with the firewall off. If it doesn't work, then turn it back on. If it does help it, then we'll change the firewall settings to exclude iTunes off the list.

News update software, it is information that came out of the new software for the Nokia N79 version of "30,011." Why is it not available to update via the Nokia Software Updater????
release of firmware updates depends on Nokia and on network operators. if you have a generic, unbranded phone then it will ome very soon to be released for your product code. if you have a branded handset however (i.e. with your operator's logos/animations all over the firmware), then this will take longer or may not come at all. since your operator has the choice whether to release the firmware with their own customisations to the customers, or not.

I have nokia n79 FW : 31.002 , when i;m trying to update it via the nokia software updater this error occurs : "For optimum connectivity your USB cable should be connected directly to the PC, and not via USB hub, USB keyboard or laptop docking station" i tried to update the usd drivers as mentioned in the forum here but didnt work too , i reinstalled the nokia software updater but not working too , so what's the soultion? , and what if i wanna to update from the mobile itself , i once saw this option in the mobile but i cant find it now ,anyway is there a way to update my FW ?

SherifType *#0000# at the stand-by screen. Go to Options -> Check for updates. If the updates are released OTA, you will be prompted to download and install. You would require a working Wireless network or a Data plan in order to do OTA update.
If you don't get any updates, then try the NSU method. This time, use another port of the PC.

N79 Internet Radio drops connection, interrupts st...
Just recently, past couple of weeks, Internet Radio stops playing stream after about 30 seconds or less. Sometimes it says "Buffering..." or "Connecting...", but more often it simply stops (as if I had pressed "Stop"), and I have to press the center key to restart the stream.
This happens every time I listen to Internet Radio via 3G (or 3.5G, as it indicates). Previously I was also noticing same dropouts when using WLAN connection, but that seems to have stopped happening (for the time being).
I am using AT&T network in USA, n79, firmware 30.019, Nokia Internet Radio installed from file: "iRApp_S60_323_1_16_upgrade.sis", which was specifically recommended by Nokia for the n79. Previous version of Internet Radio had same problem, but starting only recently. In exact same place at same time, phone receives smooth transmission from YouTube app without dropouts, so I don't think it's network-dropout related.
The Internet Radio is an app I use every day, so I would greatly appreciate any help!

Why don't Internet radio players reconnect automatically when the connection is lost? Surely loss of the connection can be detected. All of the players seem to be based on the same code written by someone with contempt for the listener. -

when i send msg to someone it doesnt reach them, pls help meWhat does your network say about this? does the message actually leave the outbox, giving the message sent alert?

My n79 phone is getting turned off automaticallyby itself. Experienced it multiple times.
Once while it was getting chanrged and cahrging was 90 %... couple of times in mypocket....
Recently I had installed one unsigned sms filter application, after that i am facing this issue... battery consumption is also high ....(halved)
there is no network requests though....
Question 1: can this be due to the malware?
Question 2: what is the resolution ? if formating then how? what all it will remove from phone?
Question 3: Can we debug this problem with help of some sniffers?

loyal nokia user.First: I'm no master. But have you checked to make sure that all parts of the unsigned sms filter application have been removed? Some applications install other supporting applications. You can look using the application manager. Otherwise, it might be possible to fix the problem with a reformat, done by pressing *#7370#. Back up all of your data first.

Hi , I have just bought Nokia N79.
i wish to use the wifi connectivity...but the problem is that though the netwrk is found it gives me "no gateway reply" when i select "start browsing"
i have checked the firmware....my phone is up to date....i purchased it in 1st week of April 2009.
i have BSNL Broadband at home and airtel broadband at office which has a wifi enabled
its an open non secure network....no key o anythin.... But when i format it and use wifi it's work fine for 1 or 2 days.Posts: 1

well i also hoped so for no bugs in this firmware but i think there is still something left over not checked.......
1. when i sms or call someone after that the E sign under the network is showed as on hold and then gprs connections fail to connect and times out..... affects auto email checking capability
2. power saver time out still in........ or else remove the option of setting ur own power saver
3. i think battery life is little lesser as compared to previous firmware v11.049
4. the menu views - v shaped and horse shoe - who uses that ?????

Problem connecting N79 to serial port using blueso...

I have a big problem, when i connect my n79 using bluesoleil v3.0, i got File transfer, dialup networking and object push services only.
If i try to start serial port service to connect my n79 to a serial port it displayes error "can not start service".
i have tried various bluesoleil versions but the problem remains same everytime. on the other hand i can connect my sony k750i to a serial port without any problem.
can someone tell me how to connect n79 to a serial port using bluesoleil

N79: problem in setting up email account
Hi everyone out there,
I got N79 very recently, I got a GPRS connection with Vodafone. I am very much interested to setting up my email account in my mobile.
So I followed the guidelines given in some other sites and the userguideline document. But I couldnt set it up correctly.
ok, here is what I tried.
Messaging->New Mailbox-> Mailbox not defined. Setup new? -> I clicked 'Yes'. But after this I was expecting a email setup wizard as given in the document. But its going back to the Messaging menu selection. No action happens.
I tried it may times, result the same
I have one internet access point and one WLAN access point setup in my Settings->Data connections.
Please advise me, what I did wrong

Surentry to do a default restore *#7780# you will not lose any data but it might work. and after that try to go the messaging and setting up new mail box. also do you have the newest firmware?
if not it is always wise to update to the most recent. if that does not work then do a reformat *#7370# this will ERASE all you data so make sure you do a back up before you reformat. also take out your memory card when you do reformat. hope this helps
is your phone branded or unbranded/unlocked? if it is branded there may not be the most recent update available for you as it is network dependent release. the network has to approve it prior to releasing it to the public. if your phone is unbranded/unlocked you should be able to update to firmware v.11... good luck
