N79 v.11 Bugs

I noticed for a quite sometime that when you unlock the phone after a long period of standby, the phone freezes. This is after the update using FOTA.  I tried to update again to Nokia Care but same problem I experience.
Does anyone encounters this?
Camera output has improved.
Music player has bug, I guess. When you use the navi-wheel, it usually continues to roll down even when you release your fingers at the d-pad.  You may think that there's a ghost controlling the navi-wheel.
Hope to fix this with no longer problems.
Cheers!

Can not send a video file in "Video Centre" via bluetooth.
must go to the file manager and send from there.
Via Bluetooth all received items appear as messages in the inbox. When you save the item you have the choice of memory to save to, but the reason this and all similar S60 phones don't give you a folder choice is that applications like the gallery, music player, video centre etc. pick up compatible files wherever in the phone they are stored. This is not a bug, it is how the system works.

  • N79: Bugs from new 11.049 firmware updates

I open a new topic for everyone to post bugs after updating their N79 with 11.049 firmware:
    1. In Photos - fonts appears Small even when font size is set to Large
    2. Photos - Thumbnails appears to be pixelated. It sharpens up when you zoom in (even then it takes a while to appear sharp). Very noticeable with pics of alphabets or numbers. Turning the phone to landscape mode, the thumbnail pictures sharpens up immediately!

Didn't have this problem with 10.046...
I have exactly the same problem.

  • Many bugs in N79 Firmware

    Hello!
I've many problems with my N79:
Sometimes, when i open the phonebook via shortcut in the standby-screen (i'm using the horizontal standby theme) a screen appears with the title of the phoneboo, but there are no entries or something else - just a cursor (underline) is flashing and i cannot do something. Mostly i close the phonebook application via application manager and then it works mostly. Did somebody of you have the same problem sometimes? Could it be a problem that i have installed the "conversation" application?
Sometimes i have the problem, that when the keys are locked and i try to unlock, nothing visible happens. Then when i look closer, i see, that i can move the focus in the standby screen with the up, down, left and right-key, but i cannot start an application or open the menu with the menu button. Also the display-light is not activated, but the key-lock is removed. Someway i opened the call-history, but i couldn't do something there. The only thing i could do to work again with my phone is to remove the battery and restart the phone.
The third problem is have is, that sometimes when i wrote a short message and i want to send it, the phones means, that the message-editor is already in use. When i then want to close the editor i started (where i wrote my message) und save the message as a draft, the phone keeps in the saving-animation, but never ends. I can then kill the message-editor via application manager. When i then open the draft-overview, i can see the draft with a preview of the message i wrote and the receiver. When i open the draft itself, the message and the receiver are empty! As workaround i copy  the message to clipboard before i close the message editor and then paste it into a new message when i start the new message editor, but this problem is really annoying!
Does somebody of you have the same problems or could somebody help me fixing them or will these problems be fixed in the next firmware?
I'm using the latest firmware "11.049.53.1"
PS: Sorry for my bad english...

Feels like a software issue to me if you ask me. How about doing a backup of all your data to the memory card, do a hard format since you're already on the latest software already like you've said and then use the phone without restoring the data back first to see if the issue are occuring or not. If not, you might want to restore those data back but upon restoration if the issue exist shortly, it could mean your data are causing this to happen. You may be asking what kind of data but it's pretty hard to narrow down to be honest.

  • New To Nokia And Having Some issues With N79

    Hi
I have bought a Nokia for the first time ever and fancied a change from Sony Ericsson due to software issues, however i have been experiencing a few issues with my N79.
When listening to Music in the Music Player and change track, the phone will crash and keep restart it's self, so i tried searching online for the issue and didn't find much help, so i tried doing a Soft Reset wich didn't work.
I then tried a Hard Reset and have noticed some icons are missing and the preinstalled Wallpapers, Ringtones and Videos have been deleted.
I then downloaded and installed Nokia Software Updater and tried re-installing the phones software (wich is 11.049.53.1) thinking i would get back the Wallpapers, Ringtones and Videos ect but that didn't work...
And now the phone has developed another bug... Whenever i use the GPS it asks to go online and i click yes, the phone will just crash and restart and i have to take the battery out to get it to go off.
So far i am NOT very happy with the phone concidering the price i payed for it and having more software issues to deal with...
    Any help would be appreciated...

Which map do you mean ??? And will it restore all the preinstalled content ???
Ive only had this phone a week after paying nearly £300 and im having trouble with it already...

  • Bluetooth Problem with my N79

    Dear All,
My Nokia N79 is 2 months old now.  Since the last two days i have been facing a weird problem with it.
even with my Bluetooth turned on and phone visibility set to Shown to all, My N79 does not get detected by either my PC nor by any other Nokia or Sony Ericsson cellphone.
even when i try to  connect to the paired devices i had setup, i get an "unable to connect" error.
Last successful file transfer was done on satrdy, 21st Feb, but since 24th i am facing this problem.
Is there any solution to this....
Is it a Firmware BUG or a Device component Failure...???
Please advice me on the same.
    Tanks & Regards,
    Cloyd

Other reset is the hard reset.
Try the "3 finger deep reset" which is depress these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on phone whilst keeping those same three keys depressed until you hear start-up tone.
This should ONLY be done if the device doesn't power up normally anymore and it wipes everything in the Phone memory that is not part of the ROM. I presume you already have a backup.
If this doesn't do it then problem is probably hardware and the only option then is to head for the Nokia Care Point..

  • N79: Cannot move Access Point into predefined grou...

    Hi there
Hope somebody can help. I'm trying to move an access point, with the destinations feature, into the "Internet" group from the "Uncategorised" group, but when I select "Organise"->"Move to other dest." and then select "Internet" as the group I want to move the access point into, the program just shuts down, and the access point has not been moved.
To access the "Destinations" feature. Go to Menu->Tools->Settings->Connection->Destinations. As far as I have understood, it's a new feature on S60 3rd edtion FP2 phones.
I can move access points into custom groups, but not into the predefined ones, so is that a design decision or an error? And how do I get access points into one of the predefined groups if it's a design decision? I have tried to redownload settings from my provider, but that didn't help, as they just landed in the "Uncategorised" group.
Thank you in advance for any help that you may be able to provide.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am able to do this on my N96, which is also an S60 3rd ed. FP2 phone like the N79. Potential reasons for your inability to do this that come to mind are software bugs and operator branding (if you got your phone through an operator rather than SIM-free from an independent retailer).
We can eliminate the former by performing a few different resets on the phone.
Start by doing a restore factory default settings. Enter *#7780# from standby and supply your security code when prompted. The default is 12345. This won't delete any data of yours, it'll just clear your settings meaning that you'll have to set up your theme, ringtones etc. again, but that's all.
Secondly, try a soft reset. This will reformat your phone's central memory, so back everything up on your phone before you do this or your contacts, messages etc. will be lost. Enter *#7370# from standby and supply the security code when prompted.
If that doesn't work then you can attempt a firmware update either by FOTA or using NSU. Always follow the update up with a *#7780# since it seems to iron out many post-update problems.
If the update doesn't change anything, or if there's no update available anyway, then you can always take the phone to a Nokia Care Point to see what they have to say, but at this point it looks like operator branding is responsible for this.

  • N79 clock is not updated

    Hello!
After unblocking N79 keyboard, sometimes clock is slow, even for good 30 minutes late. This glitch is year old, and keeps going from fw to fw, it even exists in newest v 32 fw. Does anybody in Nokia use N79?
It was once fixed (in v 11, with which i bought my phone) but later it appeared again.
This line is from old v11 changelog
     clock
    - The clock in application status pane is not updated after power-saver deactivates.
This is exactly what i'm talking about.  It is still not updated sometimes.

Noticed same bug some time ago - time is not updated on main screen. Firmware 32.001
No 3rd party themes installed, no apps
    Theme effects are switched off
Frankly - I feel myself quite sarcastic about it. There have been so many talks about poor antenna reception on iPhone 4 even with comments from Nokia on how much priority they give to functionality over design
    mua-ha-ha
How about non-working clock in Eur 250,- smartphone?
Why didn't Nokia engineers ask advice from Chinese guys who are selling 1$ watches - at least those show time.

  • N79 FM Transmitter Application problem

    Hi!
Well I buy my N79 last month after purchasing this cell I update the fireware, every thing was working fine but 2 days ago when I tried to use FM Transmitter I found its not working.
Whenever I click on FM Transmitter a message pops in say " Activate FM transmitter? " but it can't open the application after click on YES. I restore my cell to factory default but still same problem. I don't have any idea it is a bug or something else. Please help me.
    Regards.

Hay Guys are you talking this 32,001,53,1 version for N97? I am in India and OVI suite still shows me 20v.
    Anyways about FM Transmitter.
    1. Check whether your country allows FM transmitter.
    2. Select a FM range where other service providers are not available.
    3. Keep phone below 2mtr range from the receiver.
    4. Do connect any wire headset or bluetooth headset.
    5. Turn on receiver and match the frequency.
    6. Now press play button in phone's music player.
    7. Increase volume in your receiver.

  • Seems N79, N85 and and 55 30 got Firmware updates

    http://www.intomobile.com/2009/12/17/nokia-n79-n85-and-5530-get-firmware-updates.html
Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has released updates for three of its Symbian S60 smartphones. Without further ado, here they are:
Nokia N79 – after the update, the N79’s firmware reaches version 32.001. Details on what’s new are unknown at the stage, as we still haven’t seen the full change log. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hit the “Update” button – quite the contrary.
Nokia N85 – firmware version jumps to 31.002. According to AllAboutSymbian, this is mostly a bugfix release with tweaks on streaming and naming convention of GMail (Googlemail in the UK and Germany). I’m guessing, the N79 got a pretty much similar update.
Nokia 5530 XM – once updated, the low-end all-touchscreen device’s firmware is in version 20.0.080. The 140MB heavy download updates Nokia’s Ovi apps (Maps, Store), Nokia Music widget, and so on. In addition, it’s fair to add some known bugs are fixed here as well.
As usual, we advise you to backup your device prior to performing any updates, just in case…

The N79 firmware listed there has not been released. It's only presented for a small number of product codes and is likely experimental at Nokia.

  • Updating N79 to V30

I'm having a problem updating my N79 to the new firmware, which is V30. I bought the phone from the middle east, and now I am in the US, and i called the Nokia Flagship store to see if they could update it for me, but they said they could not since it doesn't have a US warranty and it was international.
    My problem with updating is:
I connect the phone to the computer, the Nokia software updater detects it, and it starts the update download. when it finishes downloading and comes to installing the updates on the n79, it fails and an error message comes up saying " for optimum connectivity connect the device directly to the computer" or something like that. And that's what I have done.
I tried to update it via FOTA, over the air because I have a Wi-Fi connection, when i search for updates it says none found, but I know there is an update greater than v20 which is v30. Please tell me what to do
And I am a little afraid of updating my phone, because i've heard of phone crashes and dead phones and all that stuff via Nokia software updater, and my phone has no warranty on it. So that's why i wanted to do the FOTA.
by the way this is the version:  Version: 20.175 RM-348 MEA

Alright first of all, I will never sell my N79. The reason I got it from the Middle East is because I wanted a Petrol Black N79. I called the Nokia Flagship store before i bought it to ask if there was a black n79, and they said that nokia doesn't ship that version to North America.
I don't know why you percieved that there was something wrong with my phone.. It's working perfectly and I came across no bug this week ( i bought it a week ago), and it was from an authorized Nokia dealer over there. But as I know, it is  better to have your device updated at all times.
Anyway I just wanted to know why it won't update and what are the risks, but the question is should I update it if i find a solution?
Considering there is no problem with the device, would you advise me to update or not? And do you think that when the time comes for the V30 update to be available at FOTA, is it safe with no risks to update my N79 over the air?
    Thank you
PS: is it also very common for mistakes to happen during the update process, like the phone dieing? I previously bought an N73 from the Middle East, and updated it here, and it worked great after the update?

  • N79 Power Saver Theme Problem

I bought an N79 just last mounth.
    it's a sweet phone but i have an small problem.;
when i choose a theme for power saver (Date, text, slide show , ....) it have been shown for only 2 seconds and disappear and screen goes to BLACK.
even i choose longest time for power Saver but it did not work.
anyone has problem like this? any idea?
Does NOKIA fix this problem in new firmware?
how can i report this BUG to NOKIA?
    thanks
    Nokia N79 4GB
    SW Version: 32.001 RM-348 MEA

I really doubt this is a deliberate design. Most other Nokia phones have the same "power saver" which pops up when the phone is idle, and all of them - even current ones - are set up so that:
    1) The power saver appears after its timeout
    2) The backlight switches off after its own, independent timeout
    3) The power saver remains shown regardless of the phone's current state
Why would the Power Saver have its own timeout and selection of Power Saver screens designed to show you the date and time, if it can only be shown for 2 seconds? I'm disappointed that Nokia support is disregarding this issue, but I assume it's more out of ignorance and a stock response than any insight into their plans for future firmware updates. Is there a "bug report" page or something we can use to ensure it's properly logged and not just dismissed?
