N7K-D132XP-15 module

Is there any N7K-D132XP-15 module. I have seen this module reference in many other Cisco presentation. Is this a typo and correction would be N7K-F132XP-15 or a new module expected to be announce...

Hello,
So the fabric module that we have on the nexus 7000 will supply 46gbps per slot for each module you add:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9402/ps9512/Data_Sheet_C78-437760.html
Depending on the modules you are using will dictate how many fabrics you need.  For example if you are using a N7K-M132XP-12L:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9402/data_sheet_c78-605622.html
It has 80gb backplane connection, so to get full capabilitys of the module, you need 2 fabric modules.  You would likely want 3 for N+1 redundancy.
However if you are using N7K-F132XP-15, it can make use of 230gb on the fabric...so for full capacity you would want 5 fabric modules:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9402/data_sheet_c78-605622.html
Overall just check the datasheet for the modules you are using and by looking at switch fabric interface speed you should be able to plan out the number of fabrics you'll need for your cards.
Hope that helps
Chad

  • Nexus 7009 does not show the N7K-F248XP-25 modules ethernet ports n sh run

    Hi everyone,
    I have a question...
I going to install two Nexus 7009 with three N7K-F248XP-25  modules on each one, I am planning to create 3 VDC, but at the initial configuration the system does not show the Ethernet ports of these modules, even with the show inventory and show module I can see that the modules are recognized and its status is OK. There is something that I have to do before start to configure these modules...? enable some feature or license in order to see the ports with show running CLI...?

You can enable F1, F2, M1, M1XL and M2XL Series modules. There are no restrictions on the type of mix allowed for the system module-type command. The system module-type command allows a mix of F1, F2, M1, M1XL, and M2XL Series modules in the VDC.
Note The limit-resource module-type command controls the restrictions on the module-types that can be mixed in the VDC.
Note Use the system module-type f2 command to allow F2E Series modules into a VDC. The ports from F2 and F2E Series modules can be allocated like any other ports.
Note The modules that you do not enable must not be powered on after you configure this feature and enter yes. An error message will force you to manually disable these modules before proceeding. This prevents major disruption and service issues within a VDC.
The no form of this command resets the configuration mode to allow all modules.
    hope this helps

  • N7K - powered-dn module status

    Hi guys,
Suddenly, one of the modules under 7K switch gave red alarm.
    Following are the show module:
    #show module
    Mod  Ports  Module-Type                         Model              Status
    4    0      10 Gbps Ethernet Module                                powered-dn

    Mod  Sw              Hw
    1    6.2(6)          3.0
    3    6.2(6)          1.0
    Any common issue for that?
    Regards.

    Hi,
    Please try this.
    1. Set on config t the diagnostic bootup level complete
    2. Reseat module 4
    3. show diagnostic result module 4
    4. show module
If you still face the same issue after reseating it then RMA the module. Also check the available power on the switch and the minimum version required for the module to run fine.

  • CSCtq89240 - Packets destined to the VDC MAC may be dropped by F1 module on N7K

Even thougth If we configure the physical mac addresses for the SVI interfaces, the packets are not reaching the destination for some vlans

    Symptom:
On the n7k packets destined to the VDC MAC may be dropped when received on a F1 module.
    Condition:
N7k with F1 module. Packets destined to the VDC MAC will be dropped under the following conditions:
    - no SVI present or admin down
    - packets received on the F1 module
Likely scenarios to see this condition include:
    - transparent firewall bridging
    - hair pinning traffic
    - L2 load balancers
    Workaround:
Configure the SVI(s) with a user-configured mac address rather than using the default VDC MAC.
This problem is isolated to the F1 module regardless of the NXOS version of code.
Are the HSRP/VRRP/GLBP virtual MAC addresses also inserted into the RMM table?
    1)     If yes, will we have same impact and drop packets if bridged through the FW (when packets arrive on F1 port that does not have the SVI)
No HSRP/VRRP/GLBP are not inserted in RMM. You will not have this issue for any other macs other than svi macs.
    2)     If HSRP vMAC is not in the RMM table, how does the F1 module know the packet has to be routed?
It is through mac table. G bit set will indicate routing has to be done.

  • Enabling FCoE on N7K-F132XP-15

Padma, I think you solved the problem. The "license fcoe module 2 force" took affect (see output below). The "force" option is hidden, so I didn't make that guess on my own. I hope from here on the card should be able to handle FCoE configuration. If you know of any other pitfalls with this particular hardware revision, please share.

  • New N7K-F248XP-25

    Ciao,
in my previous post I understand that this linecard will be officially released on 18th ... and today I discovered something new in the DS published.
"This extremely comprehensive set of Layer 2 and  Layer 3  functions makes this module ideal for data center networks,  where  density, performance, and continuous system operation are  critical."
    Performance
    • 720-mpps Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding capacity for both IPv4 and IPv6 packets
    The DS is here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9402/data_sheet_c78-685394.html
is this new linecard N7K-F248XP-25 a L2/L3 like the M series???
And, according to the Dynamic Configuration Tool it's stated:
"A separate VDC is needed when deploying the N7K-F248XP-25 modules in a  chassis that also contains other families of modules (i.e. N7K-M1xxx and  N7K-F1xxx).The VDC feature is enabled by the N7K-ADV1K9 license. A  separate VDC is NOT required when the chassis contains only  N7K-F248XP-25 modules."
    And also NX-OS Version 6 required ...
    Any ideas??
    Ciao e grazie!
    Luciano

    Hi Robert,
The F2 module is L2 and L3 capable.  It is quite a step up from F1 as it has no L3 capabilites, plus adding FEX to the F2 is a great improvement.  As far as F2 vs M1, the M1 still has larger L3 tables and can hold more routes in hardware as well as run OTV.  So the two types of modules are for different locations in your data center.  M1 is a great fit for your routing edge due to this.
    Lucinao,
    For fabric 2 on 7010 and 7018 you must have NX-OS 6.
As far as the new VDC requirement for F2.  Since the Nexus 7000s modules all have their own forwarding engines they must all run in a compatible mode.  Think of it like mixing a 6500 with sup2 and a module with a DFC3...you can't do it.
So instead of just saying your chassis can only contain F2 or F1/M1 we are able to seperate the "generations" up by VDCs within the same chassis.

Hi - I been through best practice for deploying coherence in production but could not find one related to this.
My project has high bandwidth requirement between coherence cluster nodes, resulting an app architecture to setup private vlan inteface for application to listen on, for cluster's internal communication and another interface to face production traffic. Wondering if anyone has done this type of setup and success / failure stories.
Also interested to know how to configure traffic from production interface to application's interface ( considering i have 2 bonded interface within one box, one for production, another for high bandwidth private vlan where application will listen). These are running RHEL.
Thanks in advance for your help :).

    Edited by: user8750011 on Feb 23, 2012 4:19 PMHi R,
This is a usual practice to have 2 NICs for security reasons seperating the internal and external traffic. AFAIU you question, you can configure the NIC to be used for Coherence using the property "tangosol.coherence.localhost". This would ensure that Coherence uses this NIC for communication and the other NIC can be used for other purposes.
    Hope this helps!

The EOBC is Ethernet Out of Band Channel.
There are regular keepalives or 'heartbeats' going between the sup and line cards.  The error messages you received indicate a heartbeat went missing between SUP and linecard.
If a single heartbeat went missing, it will be corrected automatically, however if multiple heartbeats are lost simultaneously then the line card would be reset (sup would power off and power on that slot in attempt to resolve a diagnostic issue).
So if the card is stable after that you can consider this as a one time (transient) issue.
You can also check EOBC stats to see if any error increasing.
    show hardware internal eobc stats
    show hardware internal eobcsw stats
show hardware internal cpu-mac eobc stats
show hardware internal cpu-mac eobc events
    show hardware capacity eobc
    Hope this helps.

  • Nexus 7009 N7K-M2206FQ-23L 40GigE Port Configuration Problem

    Hi,
I am experiencing a strange behaviour in configuring a 40GigE Link between two Nexus 7009 Eth6/1 and Eth9/2; both sides have a
N7K-M2206FQ-23L Module; I am using a QSFP-40GE-LR4 Optic on both sides. The Operting system is 6.2(6) on both sides.
After configuring the Interfaces as a Layer3 Interface and a no shutdown I get the message
    Ethernet6/1 is down (Administratively down)
admin state is down, Dedicated Interface
So what is going wrong ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
After connecting the cable to both ports, do you see green lights on the ports?
Do the interfaces go to up and up mode at all?

    Hi,
    I have a question...
I going to install two Nexus 7009 with three N7K-F248XP-25  modules on each one, I am planning to create 3 VDC, but at the initial configuration the system does not show the ethernets ports of these modules, even with the show inventory and show module I can see tah the modules are recognized and its status is OK. There is something that I have to do before start to configure these modules...? enable some feature or license in order to see the ports with show running CLI...?

  • Using 40GE ports for VPC Peer Link

    Hi,
Is it possible to use the native 40GE ports on the N7K-M206FQ-23L module for the VPC Peer Link, or do you have to break these ports out into 10GE ? I have read that 10GE ports must be used for the VPC peer link.
    Thanks in advance.

You can use 40GE ports for VPC peer-link. No need to break those to 10G.

    Hello Hery,
Generally, supervisor probe all the linecard by using hearbeat messages. Due to some reason supervisor did not hear any keepalive reply from any linecard then supervisor reset that linecard to recovery .
2014 Nov 21 11:47:39 WIB MASTER %MODULE-2-MOD_NOT_ALIVE: Module 3 not responding... resetting (Serial number: JAF1612ASPA)
From the above log, it looks like same thing happened in your case also . This is due to  multiple reason , But most of the time EOBC congestion, EOBC drop or bad fabric connection . This could be either hardware issue or transit issue.
you can set diag level complete and reset the linecard once . After reseat (physical reseat- means remove the Linecard and insert it back) if you see any diagnostic failure or crash again then you need to replace the card otherwise its transit issue .
