N8-00 Network Location and IPv6 connectivity? WiFi...

I live in a rural area in Canada and tether my internet through my Nokia N8.  My computer works faster than my phone and it saves the battery from unnecessary wear when I'm checking email at home.  Unfortunately it's my only option, but it works for me...sort of.
I'm running a Toshiba e305 and when I try to use the Intel my wifi utility to share my connection with a netbook or another device I suddenly can't 'share my internet' with another device because the computer doesn't recognize that I'm connected to the internet.  If I try to use the My WiFi utility to access my media through PlayTo, I can't also connect via JoikuSpot because If I use JoikuSpot, it communicates with an ad-hoc network which shuts off the my wifi utility, effectively strangling my computer's wireless media potential.
If I try to use the Intel MyWifi utility to engage the wireless hotspot in my notebook it turns on - but when I try to 'share my internet' it tells me that there's no internet connection.
If I want to use my device itself as a wifi hotspot I can with Joikuspot, but my notebook's hotspot is stronger and this saves me the extra power cable to save my N8's battery.
I *think* the problem is because the IPv6 protocol isn't set by default.
When I reset it to be on, I'm told that it won't engage until the next time I log on...
...HOWEVER, every time I log onto my network the connection starts fresh...nokia suite 1 then nokia suite 2 then nokia suite 3...I'm prompted to choose if it's a public or private network every time, as they're fresh connections.
Is there a way to save the details of the connection/adapter/whatever so that I can be sure the connection works perfectly every time?
I would like to be able to use my notebook as the wireless hub when using my N8 as a modem so that I could have my netbook across my home for light filesharing and internet in addition to the other features I already enjoy.
With a hardware featureset so strong, I am frustrated that there's a disconnect here that stops me from fully utilizing this otherwise great handset with an otherwise great notebook computer.

I change it to "always ask" and it works wifi then i exit out and go into connection manager and it show 2 connections one is for wifi and the other is my carrier (virgin) i disconnect Virgin then it reconnects to virgin internet again.
Can help relate to this?
I am having the same issues .... it's really frustrating. I've ended up with nothing on the homescreen and removing a lot of apps that I downloaded from the Ovi store thinking that maybe this one is the culprit. No dice.
Someone mentioned something about setting a particular Destination point as default. How do you do that?
Nokia needs to make things simpler. They also need to implement something similar to Apple App Review process. If it's going to cause so much problem, it needs to be re-done. But I doubt Nokia will do that, this is what happens when you drop the ball and need to catch-up with your competitor.

  • Network locations and Airport connection

I've just installed Leopard on my MacBook Pro (late 2008) and did all the software updates (including AirPort Extreme Update 2008-004 which - as I found out too late - seems to cause a lot of problems).
Network System Preferences show funny beaviour: Every time I try to switch off AirPort connection for a new network location the network location will disappear completely and settings will switch back to the last active network location. So it is impossible to create a network location with AirPort inactive.
Apart from that, my System does not connect to my AirPort Base Station (Dual Ethernet, 802.11b) wireless LAN (not public, WEP-encrypted, MAC address filter). My other Macs (OS X 10.4 Tiger) connect to the AirPort wireless LAN without any problems. (I double-checked all the settings of course.)
Has anybody had similar problems? Thanks for your help.

I also have an old g4 with 10.4.11
The g4 works perfectly in recognizing the airport network and is up and running in no time. no problems.. the macbookpro with leopard has problems recognizing and logging in tothe the same router. it needs help or I just i there waiting. there is no set way of getting it back to working. but I tend to go into network preferences and it says airport logged on but no connection. the g4 is happy and set up. I then turn off airport and turn it on. eventually I am back and running just fine but do not go to sleep or close the machine cheers
ps. I work from locations with different routers and different isp's same problems......
therefore it must leopard...(or the airport card in the machine)

  • Windows keeps asking to "set my network location" everytime I connect my iPhone

Does anyone else have this problem too? Everytime I connect my iPhone to my laptop with the sync cable Windows asks me to "set my network location" EVERYTIME!

I have the same issue and it only started with iOS 5.  It happens regardless of if I wire to my iPhone or use the WiFi connection to hit the personal hotspot
Very frustrating that I can't find a fix

  • [Solved] Moved from location and internet connection stopped working.

Hello everyone, this is my first post in the forums and first time using arch so please bear with me. I recently bought an Asus UX51, formatted it and installed arch linux with the help of the beginner's guide. After overcoming several problems (preinstalled raid, nvidia optimus to name a few) I managed to get it running, installed a DE and was using wireless connection just fine with
    # ip link set wlp3s0 up
    # wifi-menu wlp3s0
Everything was going fine until I came for a holyday's week to my parents house and tried to connect to their wireless network to no avail. I have WAP in my house, same do they in their house (in which I'm right now).
I have been trying the past 2 days with netctl, and even the manual method described in the wiki , googled, etc. I'm already out of ideas so I decided it was time to ask for help. If it's of any use, wifi-menu scans the network properly, and # netctl status wlp3s0-interface_name returns this:
Also read somewhere in the forums to try # journalctl -b , this is what I get on the last page:
When I try #ping, I get the following after having to wait around 15 secs :
    ~$ ping google.com
    ping: unknown host google.com
I even tried booting from an USB with an arch iso, just to try getting a wired connection, mount my arch installation and download some other network manager just to see if I got any luck, but not even that worked (in my house, just by connecting the cable before booting I would automatically have internet access when booting with the iso, but it didn't work here...).
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

    I got it running !
Just followed the manual guide once more, but managed to bypass some problem I had the first time I tried (you could say I was a bit lost by the command in the wiki but managed to understand it a bit more this time)
I believe the setup my parents have here is pretty messed up, other people get similar problems from time to time with the network, but I don't really understand much to mess with it so I'd rather leave it like it is.
In case it's of any use to anybody I'll leave here how everything was left in the end in my laptop.
    Used:
    wpa_passphrase foobarssid foobarpassword
    to generate:
    network={
    ssid="foobarssid"
    #psk="foobarspassword"
    psk=f5d1c49e15e679bebe385c37648d4141bc5c9297796a8a185d7bc5ac62f954e3
I copy pasted that on my /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf ,which had a line at the start which seems was a leftover from the time I tried before (when I tried using wpa_supplicant it failed and complained about it in the error msg).
    After that I used
    wpa_supplicant -B -iwlp3s0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
    After that I used
    dhcpcd -A wlp3s0
That failed because it said that there already was a dhcpcd process running, I killed it, tried again and it all went fine. Tried ping and kept answering "unknown host". Tried rebooting and that's when # ping google.com  started to behave like it should. Tried browsing a bit and no problems whatsoever.
Thanks a lot for the help!

  • Network location and apple script

    Hi,
I have a strange problem... When I try to use this AppleScript to change network location in Leopard, nothing happens:
    tell application "System Events"
    tell network preferences
    get properties
    --> returns: {current location:location id "51BD3FB7-50D1-4859-9649-9138E7FF1ECA" of network preferences, class:network preferences object}
get the name of every location
    --> returns: {"Automatic", "Sprint Card"}
set current location to location "Automatic"
    end tell
    end tell
This is copy-pasted from <http://www.apple.com/applescript/features/system-prefs.html>. I have 3 locations set: home, office and Automatic. I'm currently using home, and this script just silently fails to set the location to Automatic... Any thoughts/hints?

    That works, thanks!
I'm still wondering why "pure" AppleScript solution proposed by Apple is not working?

  • Express versus Extreme for network extension and computer connection?

I have an older Mac Pro that I have moved to a location that does not have a convenient wired connection to our home network. We do have one Airport Extreme box on the system, so I was thinking that I could kill two birds with one stone and purchase a second box to not only give the Mac Pro a wireless connection, but also to extend the network.
Will either the Airport Extreme or the Airport Express work equally well for this purpose?

    Yes, either will work.

  • Dual Band (5ghz and 2.4 ghz) Wireless Network Config and Dropped Connection

Hi, I have an Airport Extreme (802.11N) and a Motorola WR850G (802.11A/B/G) that I'm trying to connect in a dual band setup - but something in my setup is causing the Airport to drop it's connection (before the connection is dropped - everything works great). After I lose connectivity, both routers show up in my list of wireless networks, the light stays green, but I don't have local or internet access. When I try to reconnect, the log on times out. Also, the Airport isn't displayed in the Airport Utility (light is green on the airport itself though). Unplugging and resetting the Airport Allows all computers on the network to connect locally and to the internet for a few hours until the connection drops again. While it is up and running, I have no problems streaming movies off the connected Airdisk, navigating the internet, and connecting both N and G devices to the network.
I'd love to hear from you if you've gotten a similar setup to work, and if possible, have you provide the settings you used to make this work. I've looked around quite a bit and haven't seen a detailed description of the process (even from the Apple documentation). Also, advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated since my wireless networking knowledge is pretty basic.
    My configuration:
Time Warner cable modem connected to the Airport's WAN port. WR850G connected by LAN port to Airport's LAN port. Bridge Mode check box selected on WR850G. Airport setup for 802.11n (5Ghz). Unique SSIDs to determine which network is 'N'. Same password for both networks. My Firmware and utilities are up to date.
    Computers/Devices on Network:
Two Macs with Airport Extreme N cards. A Vista PC with a D-link N card (only compatible with 2.4 Ghz so it connects to the G network). A Vista PC with a GB ethernet card connected to the Airport Extreme. Various other G devices like iPod touches and an old iBook. Airdisk connected to the Airport Extreme.
    Thanks,

I removed the second router (Moto wr850g) and everything seems to be working smoothly. It must be some settings on that one that are causing the problem, but I haven't been able to get it configured correctly. I noticed there were some IP conflicts with my wireless wanting to use the old Moto router IP and trying to assign my Mac an IP from that router. Does anyone know specifically what needs to be disabled on a router in bridge mode? Since I have a third party router there aren't any handy wizards that can configure it for me.
    Thanks again

  • XMII 12 help file location and virtual connections

    Hi.
I have just installed xMII version 12 It took me 20 days the first time, but now it is easy.
Two questions. When trying to activate help, it opens a link like...
    http://wbhelp.sap.com/manufacturing/xmii_120/da/44/2AF20B1DDE23D3E10000000A1553F7/content.htm
    How to fix this ??
Is it possible to make virtual connections to xMII version 11.5 ??
    BR.
    Poul Klemmensen.

    Hi Poul.
What language of the help are you trying to access?  I see "/da/" in the middle of your help URL, but if you're trying to access the German version of the help, it should be "/de/".
For now, you can manually replace the "da" with "de" for German or "en" for English, and you should be able to see the help topic without error.

Just go to the wireless network preferences and empty out all the stored wireless networks.. then scan and connect to the local wireless.
Select them and tap the - button below it.
Once they are emptied out.. it might be good to reboot the computer with the remember networks unchecked.
    Start with a clean slate.

  • HP M5035-MFP - How can I enable Fax-to-Email AND Save to Network Location?

    Good morning experts!
In our business, we currently use the fax-to-email functionality of the M5035 MFP to email incoming faxes to an email address, attached to which are a set of forwarders that proceed to send copies to everybody who needs one. We would also like to begin cataloguing the faxes we recieve on a file server on our network. My questions are therefore as follows:
Is it possible to enable both "Save to Network Location"  and the "Fax-to-Email" functions at once? If so:
How do I access the menu to adjust these settings? I can't seem to find it on the printer itself, and when I access the printer's IP through a web browser and go to the "Networking" tab, this is what I see:
     3. This is in a Windows Domain environment (domain controller is Server 2012 Standard). Are there any special provisions I should make server-side to ensure that the Save to Network Location functionality works smoothly? Any special permissions that need to be set?

  • Mac desktop and Airport Connection

I have problem on My Mac desktop. I can't connect to my airport. my other devices had no problem with the airport connection. It shows full bar on my wifi bar but when I started to browse it tells me not connected to the Internet. I've tried resetting everything but no luck for me. Please help. Thanx!

What specifically have you tried resetting? If you are seeing and connecting to your network then that's a big first step. I would try first to see if it's a settings issue. The easiest way to do this is to create a new network location and see if the issue persists. Go to System Preferences -> Network. Select the box next to the word "locations" at the top and select "edit locations." Hit the plus symbol and name the location whatever you want (I use "test" in these situations). Make sure it's selected and hit "done" and then Apply in the bottom right of the preferences page. Give it about 30 seconds and then try to browse again. If you're successful, it was a settings issue. You can now do one of two things: find the individual setting that was causing the issue in the other location, or just use the new location you've already created. You'll probably opt for the latter, which is what I would recommend. Very, very few users have a need for a particular location setting. If you're still having a problem then it may be more complicated to resolve. I would try it on another network (at a friend's house, or at Starbucks) to make sure it's not network related. Just because your machine is the only one not working doesn't exclude the network as the root of the issue. If you have problems there, I would consult your local Apple Store or Apple Certified repair facility as it may take some deeper troubleshooting to resolve.

  • Network Locations not working with Multiple SSIDs

I've had a MacBookPro 15 for three years.  Started with 10.5 and upgraded to 10.6.  I just received a new MacBookPro 15 with Lion 10.7.
    The Issue:
On 10.5 and 10.6 I use multiple network locaitons.  One for work, one for Home and one for Roaming.  I have a "Work" SSID at work and at Home.  I also have a "Home" SSID at home.
So basically, when I'm home I can select "work" to be on my hardware VPN router and connect directly to the office.  Then, when I'm not working, I can switch to the "home" location and automatically connect to my home network and not have big brother watching me surf the web.
In 10.7 this no longer works.  All of the WIFI settings are them same in both locations.  When I'm on "home" I add the SSID for home and it connects.  I then turn off the wifi and switch locations (same as I do in 10.6).  Then I turn WIFI back on, and it connects to my home SSID.  I go to the wireless settings, and add the work SSID and delete the home SSID.  I shut off wireless, change back to home and turn it back on.  I go to wireless settings, and the only SSID is the one I added under the work location.
Has anyone else seen this change in behavior?
    Dan

I prefer to continue the way I've been using it for 3 years rather than switch now.  The work location has the WIFI adapter as primary so that the default gateway is the wifi network even if I have a network cable plugged in.  This allows me to use my "work" network, but I can still share content with my local home network and also print to my local printer (not on my work network).
So, this solution really doesn't work for me.  And yes, I know you can only connect to one at a time, but  again, those are not the only settings that I change when switching locations.  Those are the only settings that are broken.

  • Network Interruption when Laptop connects

    Hello All
    - I have WRT54G V5 with firmware 1.00.6 connects to ADSL Sagem modem
    - 1 PC with Sitecom network adapter running on WIN XP Pro connect to Router through WAN
    - 1 vaio laptop with builtin Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG version 9.0.4.17 running on WIN Home connect to Router though WAN
The problem occures while I have my pc connected to the router, when I try to connect my laptop to the router the whole network iterrupts and it connects back automatically.
So I am confused why this interruption on the network when i try to connect my laptop to it. The connection goes back to normal when both PC and Laptop reconnect to the network.
I'll be glad to provide more info about the situation, but maybe someone could fill me up on why this is happening.
I have tried manual DHCP and automatic and still the same problem.Message Edited by ZinG on 08-21-2006 03:55 PM

Don't think it is the router's problem.
I've just found this symptom on Intel's website.
    http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-022509.htm
But I am not sure if it applies to your Laptop, since it has a different Intel Pro Wireless version. But you can probably tell it is a laptop problem since it only occues from the laptop and not from any other Computers you try to connect.
Maybe I am wrong but you can tell us what is your Wifi adapter on your Laptop?
