N8 3G and WLAN connections

Is it possible to turn off the 3G and WLAN connections so that the they are active ONLY when I need them?
Currently I have 3G connection active all the time even I do not do anything with the Internet or applications which are using 3G (main display is showing the "connected" character below the 3G letters).
Also I would like to turn off the "search WLAN" feature until I am going to use that connction. I do not want to turn it OFF completely just want to put it away until I really need WLAN. I do not want it to search the WLAN networks until I need the WLAN.
I would like to turn these connection off to save the battery.

As it was stated in several review articles, the connectivity concept on the N8 (formerly Symbian ^3) is still somewhat in an experimental state.
The introduced "Destinations" yet most of the programs are not aware of this functionality. My tipical scenario would be that I have:
- destination with all my WLANs and 3G for fallback
- destination with WLANs only
- destination with 3G only
this would allow me to direct my data flow exactly where I want it.
Instead what I get:
- AGPS goes out on a random (!) data connection
- S60v5 apps try to go the old way of "Define access point", being unaware of "Destinations"
- Gravity is even more confusing as it has its own WLAN option and absolutely disregards the phone options. It goes out on 3G even if there's WLAN available .
So the basic answer to your question:
at his moment can only check under connectivity what app is using your 3G data and check the setting within this app. You cannot generally disable 3G connection as far as I know

guys guys guys i'm having a wiered problem with this rubish E72
well every time i check my log i find that my phone has used packet data connections and wlan connections for small time intervals and small periods while i haven't used the internet for a long time btw i always make sure to exit all app and also make sure to disconnect my email before exiting so packet data signals and wlan signal are not (on)
so that means that the phone just uses internet by it's own self also notice that the time that the phone used the internet was during my sleep time
but it's so weired it has used the packet data for 30 seconds and the wlan fo 1.5 mins by it self ..............is this a virus or that ugly firmware is just full of **bleep**
please check your phones (log) and reply me back

  • N8 and WLAN connection properties

Is it possible to show some extra properties/informatio about WLAN connection?
    By selecting
Valikko -> Asetukset -> Yhteydet -> Langaton lähiv. (yhdistetty) -> "valinta" -> Tiedot
(freely translated, may not be exact name)
Menu -> Settings  -> Connections -> Wireless network (connected) -> "select" -> Details
one sees the name, duration and data amount.
If I go to Connection management (Yhteydenhallinta), I can see more information, e.g. Name, Medium, State, Network, Signal, Encryption, Send power, data amounts.
I would like to know the basic info such as used nameservers etc.. Is there a way to do so? Is there some extra apps (free) to do so?
    Any help is much appreciated!

Try Nokia Connectivity Analyzer from Betalabs - http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-connectivity-analyzer.  It is able to show you extra information on all your network connection options including WLAN connections.

  • Thinkpad X220: bad wlan connection when docked and lid closed

    Dear forum
I use a Lenovo ThinkPad X220. I have no trouble with the wlan connection when i use the notebook alone. The wlan connection is also stable when i use the notebook plugged in the dockingstation with the lid open. But when I use the notebook plugged in the dockingstation with the lid closed my wlan connection drops regularely to about 2 Mbps and gets very unstable.
The ThinkPad uses the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wlan network controller:
    $ lspci | grep 6205
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6205 [Taylor Peak] (rev 34)
The network controller uses the iwlwifi driver, that comes with the current linux-firmware package:
    $ pacman -Ss linux-firmware
    core/linux-firmware 20150206.17657c3-1 [Installiert]
    Firmware files for Linux
I didn't change any options of the kernel module, everything runs in default mode:
    $ modinfo -p iwlwifi
swcrypto:using crypto in software (default 0 [hardware]) (int)
11n_disable:disable 11n functionality, bitmap: 1: full, 2: disable agg TX, 4: disable agg RX, 8 enable agg TX (uint)
    amsdu_size_8K:enable 8K amsdu size (default 0) (int)
fw_restart:restart firmware in case of error (default true) (bool)
antenna_coupling:specify antenna coupling in dB (default: 0 dB) (int)
wd_disable:Disable stuck queue watchdog timer 0=system default, 1=disable (default: 1) (int)
    nvm_file:NVM file name (charp)
    uapsd_disable:disable U-APSD functionality (default: Y) (bool)
    bt_coex_active:enable wifi/bt co-exist (default: enable) (bool)
    led_mode:0=system default, 1=On(RF On)/Off(RF Off), 2=blinking, 3=Off (default: 0) (int)
power_save:enable WiFi power management (default: disable) (bool)
    power_level:default power save level (range from 1 - 5, default: 1) (int)
fw_monitor:firmware monitor - to debug FW (default: false - needs lots of memory) (bool)
At first I thought, the problem could be caused by the KDE power saving settings. I changed the settings, so nothing happens when I close the lid (no hibbernation or screen lock or something like that), but without success (the wlan connection is still unstable under the described circumstances).
Also dmesg shows nothing that points out a problem (as far as I can see):
    $ dmesg | grep iwlwifi

Any help would be really appreciated.

    hmmm...
how about checking both your wired and wireless nic drivers in device manager to make sure that the "allow computer to turn off this device to save power" checkbox on the power management tab is deselected.

    Hello,
I've purchased and installed an x3500 modem, and can connect to internet using both wired and wireless but my problem is, i can not ping or see/detect devices between LAN and WLAN.How can i fix this problem?
Mac filtering is disabled on wireless

Hi hakanbayar. Can you ping your Linksys device? If yes and you're using a computer, you may need to disable the computer firewall or security so it will allow you to ping other computers.

  • How to execute "netsh wlan connect SSID", but SSID has space and quotation marks?

    Dear all:
I have a wifi roruter with SSID test "3"
But when I execute following command netsh wlan connect "test \"3\""
the netsh reply: 未將設定檔 "test " 指派給指定的介面。
Sorry my windows7 is chinese version, but as you can see, netsh detect my SSID as
    test, not test "3".
Does everybody know how to use netsh to connect to a SSID, and these SSID has space and quotation mark both?
    Regards,
    Joseph

    Hi Joseph,
Firstly, please modify your SSID name to make sure it do not contain spaces or special characters. SSID name is the router setting. please go there to change SSID name.
In addition, If only one SSID is specified in the profile, then the specified SSID is used to connect, and the ssid parameter is not required. If the profile specifies multiple SSIDs, the ssid parameter is required.
Therefore, I would like to suggest you run command as this syntax:
netsh wlan conncet ssid=Your SSID of the unsecured wireless network name=Your current profile name
To do this, please refer to the section “connect” in the following document:

  • Satellite L300D-243 and WLAN - limited connectivity

I've just got an L300D-243 and it is mostly lovely, but ... when I try to connect to our wireless internet I keep getting a 'limited connectivity' notification. I'm using system pack one so it's not the fault known in system pack 2. It works fine when I use the internet cable, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a computer I can carry around.
So, can anyone suggest a cure?
    Trizia

    Hi!
Please check the link posted by Feliks. It seems that it could solve your issue with the WLAN connection.
Furthermore I can recommend installing the newest WLAN driver from Intel. On my Satellite L300 I had some issues with the WLAN connection and a driver update could solve the problem! :)

  • IMac 24" loses WLAN connection again and again

    Hy everybody,
I bought a brand new intel-based iMac 24" and I'm very pleased with it. I just have one Problem that i can't resolve. I have a WPNT834 (Netgear) WLAN Router using WPA2. The iMac can connect without problems, speed is very good and the signal strenght is perfect, but from time to time my computer loses it's WLAN connection.
If this happens it doesn't reconnect. I have to disable Airport, wait a minute and enable it again.
Can anybody tell my why this happens? I mean, that the connection get lost is not so tragic, but that it doesn't reconnect is bothering me.
    Thanks in advance and regards.
    Tobi
    iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

When you click on your Airport Status do you see more then one access point? Neighbors?
You can try changing the wireless channel on your router. That might help with the drop of connections. It's possible that another wireless access point in the area is on the same channel and causing a problem.
    Hope that helps a little,
    AL

  • Access Connections and WLAN

Access Connections attempts to connect to my secured home network but fails. Yet I can still connect to the network, connect to Skype, and access webpages through Chrome. Windows Network and Sharing Center tells me that I am connected to the internet through my home network yet Access Connections has a big red X over the wireless connection, telling me I cannot connect to the network.

You can just un-install it. I did on a recent Thinkpad,
and my connections were fine afterwards.
Or explore the settings of the utility, maybe there is
something you can change to fine tune it?

  • Vista SP2 and Access connections requiring manual reconnect

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a problem after the installation of Windows Vista SP2 on my Vista Business. After a reboot, I must always manually 1) disconnect the WLAN connection and then 2) reconnect to establish a working WLAN connection and to gain access to Internet. Before I disconnect, the WLAN connection is alive, but I cannot access any websites. Everything worked just fine before installation of SP2.
I'm running Access connections version 4.42 on Thinkpad R61. I've read that someone has had a similar problem with wired LAN and with newer version of Access connections: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistasp/thread/17ba267e-0bb1-4621-b81f-04afa0d806...
Does someone know how to solve this issue and make the connection to work without a manual disconnect -> reconnect step?
    BR,
    Miika

After some searching, I found a working solution:

    Everything works fine now.

  • Communication between : AP and WLAN controller

    Hi,
The communication between AP and WLAN Controller is ( Data and Control ) UDP.
Source port 1024 and destination port 12222 and 12223. Actually which device listen to which port or both should listen as control and data can be generated from both the devices.
How does the user ( wireless client) traffic is switched - if user traffic is a TCP traffic. It will be sent to WLANC and then WLANC forwards it to respective VLAN or default gateway ( depending upon the destination in the packet ).
Please explain / share the experience.
    any link on cisco.com
    Thanka in advance
    Subodh

"the LWAPP Control and Data messages are encapsulated in UDP packets that are carried over the IP network. The only requirement is established IP connectivity between the access points and the WLC. The LWAPP tunnel uses the access point's IP address and the WLC's AP Manager interface IP address as endpoints. The AP Manager interface is explained in further detail in the
implementation section. On the access point side, both LWAPP Control and Data messages use an ephemeral port that is derived from a hash of the access point MAC address as the UDP port. On the WLC side, LWAPP Data messages always use UDP port 12222. On the WLC side, LWAPP Control messages always use UDP port 12223.
The mechanics and sequencing of Layer 3 LWAPP are similar to Layer 2 LWAPP except that the packets are carried in UDP packets instead of being encapsulated in Ethernet frames."

  • WRT54GL loses Wlan connection

    Hi
I have a problem with an WRT54GL Router. It keeps losing the Wlan connection. Then I have to reboot the router to get it working again.
On some days everything works fine, and the other day I have to reboot every 5 minutes.
I don´t use P2P. So there are not many simultaneous connections. Mostly there are only one or two Wlan Clients active.
Between the Router and the Client is only one Wall. Signal Strenght is at all times above 85%.
Does anyone have an idea what might cause this?

Try upgrading your router's firmware and reconfigure it from the scratch.
