N8 = 480 euros worth of fail

Long time Nokia user. Started in 1996 with their banana phone, used 9200/9300i/E70/72/75/90 and now I bought a Nokia N8. Since I've had it, i had nothing but problems.
1. Wifi on the phone is mediocre. There is no simple off button and it takes 20 million menus to turn everything off but wait ... the phone still reconnects without me wanting it. Then you start configuring each widget and untick days on your e-mail accounts. You say you succeeded but wait ... the Nokia N8 phone reconnects yet again to your wifi network. Then you go back in the menu and sub menus and options and advanced settings and you turn everything off again and you disconnect manually from your hotspot ... but wait the phone reconnects again to your router. Now, the only option you have is ... delete destination.
2. You take your brand new toy to work and want to hook up to your corporate wifi network. You swipe to the second screen, tap your wifi widget to enable scanning, select your network, configure, open the nokia browser and the phone freezes. You look at it and give it a few seconds. Then you push the menu button and load the task manager. You click X on the browser, nothing. You click close all nothing. You press the menu button again and ... the phone is not responding. You are left with the power button. You push the power button, hold of 8 seconds and wait for the phone to switch off. Phone switches off, you give it a minute, turn it back on but it gets stuck on the Nokia logo. You wait 2 minutes and what happens? The screen saver kicks in. You unlock the phone, its the nokia logo. You lock the phone, its the screen saver. You reset the phone again. This time it works like a charm but reconnects to wifi whenever it wants not whenever you want. None of the solutions here on the board worked. Having it hog my service provided contract is not an option.
3. Theme effects are better viewed off. Putting them on simply ruins the UI experience on this phone. Use the phone a bit with theme effects on and at one point you have 2-3 menus in overlay mode and you cannot make heads or tails. Swiping with theme effects is poor and you are better off with the button to change home screens.
4. Favourite contact carousel. Good idea, poorly done. I have 4 main contacts, Superman, Batman, Julia and Bruce. I want to call John who is number 6, i swipe with my finger and call John. Afterwards, I want to return the carousel to the 4 contacts I call more often: Superman, Bartman, Julia and Bruce. I use my finger to swipe these 4 contacts into place, release the finger, the carousel moves on its own and shows other contacts. I try again with my finger, position these 4 contacts to the millimetre, release finger and the carousel moves again. After I manage to put my 4 contacts, I reboot the phone and the carousel shows other contacts not the 4 I left before I rebooted.
5. Image gallery. I have 100 pictures. Swiping from pic 1 to pic 2 pic 3 is all good. Swiping from pic 100 to pic 99 to pic 98 is good. Swiping from pic 1 backwards to pic 100 shows a double jump in transition.  People on other boards have said this is the Nokia way of showing that you are at the end of the gallery. If this is true, Nokia engineers ran out of ideas. Jumping like that between the first and last picture makes you cringe. The animation seems broken!
6. Light sensor. A mind of its own really. You set it one way, it ends up in another. You hold the phone in your hand without having changes in light conditions and the phone changes its brightness on its own.
7. Nokia N8 and OVI Suite. A lethal duo. Crash after crash after crash. OVI crashes 2-3 times a day and formatiing doesn't help.
8. Camera.  Impressive, fast, accurate, interface is 10 years old. I made the mistake of enabling "save location". My phone drove me crazy with the GPS. Every 2 seconds " Define access point, define access point, define access point?" I kept saying NO but the phone ignored me.
9. E-MAIL Client. Back to the drawing board guys. Not efficient and badly done. I would use the web interface but the browser is not good either. Try writing in landscape mode an e-mail on an outlook web access account. The layout is so bad you cannot even arrange the text in a decent manner. That landscape keyboard has got to go.
10. Ovi Store App on the phone. Slow and often fails to sign in eventhough you have proper internet.
11. Third party apps. Gravity is the only app worth praising, the Nokia social needs to go too. I bought quick office full and look at the attachments what happens.
I can say one thing. If the coming updates do not make this phone work the way it is intended and for the price I paid, I will sell it on eBay and jump ship like most of the symbian users. Now I understand why Nokia's market share is in tatters. My blind loyalty for this company kept me with this N8 and I should not compromise so much for the money I paid.
P.S: I have the latest updates on it, including the one that came out yesterday.

Ok dude, I understand your frustration. Thats why i said you are always welcome to switch the board. I have no gain in defending N8 or Nokia. It is not my point. I read your post and I saw your phone history, it was fully comprised of E series devices and iPhone.
Ok, If you are not aware, N8 is not a flagship device from Nokia, It is Nokia's Imaging Flagship and there is no denial in the fact that N8 is the best camera phone available to date, I bought N8 only for its imaging capabilities and i never expect a DSLR quality in it, I just want it to replace a point and shoot, so that i can carry my camera with me always. It Does what i wanted. I know there are Number of Unhappy N8 users too.
"Some users report that their Nokia N8 would crash when connected to a Wi-Fi network secured with WPA2 (that didn’t happen with our unit though). They suggested switching off Power saving to remedy the problem.........
....Performance near the router improved for both N modes – it went from about -8% to 10% on the positive side....
That’s still not a huge improvement over Wireless G, but it answers why the Nokia N8 was the only phone losing speed near the router when using Wireless N. Performance away from the router remained the same though"
"However further away from the router, it was the Nokia N8 that came on top. Although it didn't show much benefit from the Wireless N mode, the N8 had the most consistent throughput (between 10 and 14 Mbps) that kept its pace from all locations and in all test modes"
GSM ARENA: Its a nice article comparing the WiFi modes of all phones with N band (including iPhone) it tels you about the router settings and the functionality of WiFi n- band (http://www.gsmarena.com/wireless_n_bluetooth_3_speed_test-review-551.php)
I hope it will give you some insight of the problem or at least the impression that I'm aware of the problem. I have read so many  forums, and i know a bit about the frustrations too.
This review (it is all about connectivity) http://www.fonearena.com/blog/26520/nokia-n8-review-week-%E2%80%93-day-7-%E2%80%93-connectivity.html will give you more idea about the problem.

"This cameraphone point on the N8 is moot because I did not buy the phone just for the camera. Let's assume for the sake of argument that I agree with you, what about the issues i've mentioned. I want to use this device for other things than taking pictures"
I was using an HTC desire and i bought N8  for its camera, I'm pretty happy with it. I was aware that N8 is not gonna give me the better browser, or the seamless social networking integration before i bought the phone, I was ready to sacrifice it because of the camera. I know its not the same for all users, And certainly Nokia knows it, thats why they have C6-01, C7 and E7 (Not released yet though) all running in S^3 to address the problem.

"You are telling me to find a work around to overcome basic functionality problems? What are we, the 90s where the end user had to put a tin foil on his head and pray to god that it works? Wifi is like SMS nowadays"
How are you using your iPhone, without the bumper or with the bumper? Do you really need a Bumper to use a phone? - I'm not trying to put the iPhone down here, What i say is people do compromises and workarounds to use even the expected phone function of a phone. So why can't you find a workaround to use it for sometime. In N8's case the problem can be sorted out with a firmware update (Hopefully it will), but in the other case, it will never be.
mate, you got me wrong, My smartphone adoption started with 6600 (Symbian first edition), I was really tired off with the Symbian after some time (playing with 6630, SE P900, 7610), then i purposefully chose a series 40 (to stay away from smart phone). I switched to WinMO 6.1 then after annoyed with the UI, came to Symbian^1 aka V5 (5800). It was full of double tap single tap nonsenses (I loved the phone though and I'm still using it), i was frustrated more than you and i switched to android. Used HTC desire, wildfire (for about 2 months only) then I came back to S^3. i didn't try iPhone only because i don't like the icon centric design of iOS. Before to jump into S^3 my serious consideration was WP7 (i didn't coz WM6.1 really spoiled me, only alternative to the functionality of WM6.1 is Symbian, you will never get what you want in Android or WP7 after using WM6.1). I say this because to let you know that i have a little background in Smartphone OS too. I know whats wrong with S^3. I will say S^3 is the first touchscreen OS from Symbian (Not the UI) Because S^1 is not at all a touch OS, the OS itself. It was just a translation from D-Pad. I consider S^3 equal to android cupcake in 2009. So I'm giving it a fair chance to prove itself.
S^3 is not ready yet. For example, In call log, it miss the feature "filter by this number", Just because S^3 cant select something, Press and hold popup menu should have it, but the filter is there in the option, you cant select so you don't have filter by selected. There are so many glitches, including the WiFi auto connect. S^1 or any other Symbian controls the connection from within app, S^3 has kind of a universal connection, (its not closed as S^1 or open as iOS or Android, its a hybrid approach, But S^3 didn't get it correct, it gives the priority to some apps (especially email app) than the system settings). S^3 is Complete as a multimedia OS (thats why Nokia released it in N series). its not yet ready for the corporate computing (thats why they pushed the E7 release - E series was never my boat, Because i don't need what they offer).
If you want More understanding about N-Series and E-Series Wikipedia is a nice place.
The Nokia Eseries consists of business-oriented smartphones, with emphasis on enhanced connectivity and support for corporate e-mail push services. All devices have advanced office features. Phones equipped with Wireless LAN also provide a VoIP client (SIP Protocol).
Nokia Nseries is a product family that includes multimedia smartphones. These are mobile devices supporting digital multimedia services such as music playback, video capture, photography, mobile gaming and Internet services. Some Nseries devices support high-speed wireless technology, such as 3G, or Wireless LAN.
A little more in to it:
The numbers describe the traits of the phone -N7x - 7 series are the balanced phones. they have balanced features and are the cheapest Nseries phones -N8x - 8 series are the camera phones (except N90 and N93) -N9x - 9 series are the high end part of the Nseries
Wishmaker
"Playing games, taking pictures, filming, HDMI and listening to music? These are the only things that the N8 does right. If by your definition, the phone is defined by these major features then you are not doing this board justice"
Unfortunately that is what turns out to be the focus of N8 as per the branding.
I know what i bought, and I have no complain, If some one don't know what he bought and complain (Like my grinder doesn't play video) it is totally insane.
I'm sorry if I sounded harsh, but that is the truth. otherwise there are no point in branding, Numbering and so on. Nokia can also have a one ultimate product, a superpower almighty and Keep on investing only in that. That is not the goal, You can find a device that is suitable for you in Nokia's product line, if you don't like it, you have other options.
Finally I give Damian Dinning (if you don't know, he is one of the man behind the superb camera of N8) words here
"What may not be right for you doesn't mean it's rubbish. That would be like me saying that a 2-seater sports car is useless and therefore rubbish because I can't get four people in it. What was the manufacturer thinking of!? Probably that there are some people who that's all they want. For me (as much as I would like a sports car) it's simply not practical (due to two young children), but I don't go around telling others it’s bad. It wasn’t designed with me in mind, that’s all"
".....But if you’re not one of them, that's OK. I hope in our portfolio of products there will be one which suits your needs better. ........."
".....If we still don’t have a product that fits your needs, on to point 5…
You can find the rest here: http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/11/23/damian-dinning-on-nokias-full-focus-cameras/
Sorry pal, I don't wanna undermine you, What you say are problems, for sure, I too Hope they will get fixed soon, I too Frustrated in times, But lets first understand these things and try to adopt them. We are frustrated because we don't understand what Nokia are aiming at, We all think that N8 is a "Flag ship" from Nokia so it should be an iPhone killer, No it is not, It is not the ultimate (N9 may sometimes, or it may also turn out to be a geek's phone - more unlikely)
It is not personal, so don't get a grudge, if you want to continue a healthy discussion ya we may, I will try to do this board justice

  • IOS code signing fails only on AIR 3.4+

I am building a Flex application for iPad (iOS 6.1.3) using Flash Builder 4.7 on OSX Lion.
I can successfully build my IPA using Flex SDK 4.6.0 with AIR 3.3 overlayed.
However if I do the following:
    1. change the Flex SDK to 4.6.0 with AIR 3.6 overlayed (I used the "Flex compatible" AIR sdk at http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/mac/download/latest/AdobeAIRSDK.tbz2)
    2. update the application descriptor namespace to http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/3.6
then I cannot install the resulting IPA on my iPad.  XCode organizer produces the error: "No Code signature found" and if I try to install over USB from Flash Builder I get "ApplicationVerificationFailed"
The SDK is the only change I've made.  The provisioning profile, certificate, and app id are still the same.
I can still run my app in the AIR simulator on the desktop in either SDK.
XCode Organizer's console contains the following:

I've tried re-downloading the Flex SDK and re-doing the AIR SDK overlay, to no avail.
Is there something I'm supposed to do differently in AIR 3.6?

    I have the same error.
I'm using Flex SDK 4.5.1.21328 with AIR 3.6 overlayed.
I have the correct app Id and , I have regenerate certificates and provisionings file.

  • Help with hp LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw

Hi all, have run the suggested HP troubleshooting solutions for the below problem but still persists.
When I print from any programme I get yellow smudges along the edge of the print outs at regular intervals. Initially I thought it was yellow toner smudging at the edges somehow and cleaned all the rollers etc. No joy so now think it may be light burn marks on the paper? Out of ideas to resolve the issue. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks

    Hello,
I'm going to keep this short and simple.
We are/were hp partners once, I bought myself a HP Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw at Staples in Belgium (Staples is bankrupt meanwhile - a pity for their employees)
I ordered toners on tonershop.be, these toners are approved, HP was fined for this sort of behaviour as 100% valid replacement.   HP forces me to do a software update, next thing I'm seeing is a big warning that I'm using counterfeit products and that I need to contact HP.   This is the world upside down, HP is violating the European free market.   Not the poor guy that wants to make an extra buck, for an underpaid salary in a sweatshop somewhere.
My printer is ruined (I have +25 years profound technical knowledge, experience, whatever)
But my printer is still under warranty no?   No HP (online tells me it isn't) so back to Staples, fortunately they had a copy of my invoice, so that I can be repaired in warranty but no, I the evil HP partner that sold for multiple hundreds of thousands of euros worth of HP products, I used LEGAL replacement toners.  Sorry Mr you have to buy a new printer.
Well I don't.    I'm going to take this whole sage (with the microchips with false information, on the toner cartridges full off very expensive toner powder.   And I'm going to mail it to Neelie Kroes and I really hope that HP get's convicted for market manipulation, price agreements, putting themselves above national legislation and lot's of other misconducts.
And because of management that is only interested in greed and their 25th Villa, Tesla car, Island, it will be the HP employee that pay the price for this sort of arrogance and plain stupidity.
HP: You have my contact details, send me an email.
And then the 'too big too fall' companies annoy you with useless questionnaires about their customer service, they ask themselves why nobody is buying their products and so on.
Anyway, for this type of printer I know the story from A-Z meanwhile, I have kept all evidence, invoices and whatever and once again I was once somebody that made you company what it is today after the HP/Compaq merger.
You board of directors, top management, yes Mrs. Ex CEO from Ebay), that is why people don't buy HP anymore.   High Prices, no service.
I prefer to keep this reaction anonymous, one could imagine why.
But I have my a digital print of this post, and signed it with a digital signature.
Because everything what I mentioned above is how it is.
Stop ruining our planet and the future of my children for your own greedy behaviour.
    Mr X.
Once HP Partner blah blah blah

  • WHAT WOULD YOU BUY??

Hi guys. I have been the happy owner of an original PowerBook Ti 450MHZ (with a fading LCD screen and a sluggish processor running OSX Tiger) for the past 6/7 years... and I'm now looking to upgrade... I only really use it as a presentation tool... but I want it to last through as many software upgrades as possible as I will be looking to hang onto this for another 4 years at least... should I go for the 15" or 17". I have always bought the fastest, best configuration... of anything I have bought.... but is the extra 700 euros worth it for an extra 2inch screen real estate...??? This new laptop will be for demoing websites only... no gaming... viewing photos... viewing video clips... and running DJ software.... that's about it....
There are rumours circulating about a new MacBook refresh... anyone heard anything about the MacBook Pro product line?? If I buy now... will they refresh the Pro line up anytime soon?? A guessing game as always...
    Any comments most welcome...
    Yours sincerely,
    Anthony (MacUser and MacAddict)

I have the 17 inch high resolution MBP and really like it. But one thing I would like to recommend is the matte screen over the glossy whichever you get--the colors are more true to life for photography.
Another consideration for you may be battery life--the 15 inch MBP is available with the new LED screen which uses less power than the LCD screen in the 17 inch MBP. Apparently the LED technology isn't available for the 17 inch display but may be in the future. But I think going to a store with your stuff and looking at it on various machines is a good idea.
    Good luck and happy hunting!

I've finally found out, that if i unplug my ethernet cord (used with rca cable modem), i can successfully start ichat. once i plug the cord back in, i can log in to ichat. I had a tech at a store give me 2 minutes of his time and he sent me a text message successfully, but initiating a video chat crashed ichat so I've kind of got two problems, or perhaps two causes to one problem.
here are some of the other things I've tried in my pursuit to solving this problem:
    -Upgraded from Panther to Tiger
-Reformatted drive, zeroing data, and reinstalling Tiger
-Disconnecting second hard drive, leaving only the original 10gb one.
    -System updates installed
-limited ichat bandwidth prefs to lowest bandwidth
-ran memtest with no probs found
-fixed disk permissions, disk first aid
-checked console logs ( couldn't find anything at all)
    -restarted without extra peripherals
-tried different usb port for keyboard, different firewire port for cam
-have two video cards, one monitor - tried different video card with monitor.
-deleted quicktime and ichat prefs (since reinstalled again)
crazy eh? what can I do? taking it to a shop today if i can find one open but worried about $$.
Tried with ichat 2, 2.1 and 3.1. Same problem.

    Hi
Take out the second video card for testing.

  • Skype account hacked, hacker used my skype to buy ...

Someone broke into my account, and bought 90 euros worth skypecredits,
Is there a way to get my money back? I  didnt use ANY of it yet.

Hi, TheEmperor123, and welcome to the Community,
This FAQ article provides next steps:
    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10946/what-should-i-do-if-my-account-is-suspended-hacked-or-compr...
Please see the section titled, "Hacked Accounts."  Please also sign on to your Skype account dashboard to ensure that your account's registered e-mail address is correct and accurate.  Change your account password if you have not already done so - the easiest way to accomplish this is from within the software or app.  In the Windows Desktop version, it's Skype -> Change Password.
You will be directed to contact Skype Customer Service for assistance.  These tips may be helpful as Skype is experiencing continuing problems with the websites:   If you experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community, please try again using a different web browser and choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented.
Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.
Last and not least, when you reach the last step of the process, remember to click on the "Start Chat" link when you are provided the choice of visiting the Community or starting an instant message chat with a customer service agent.

I noticed this morning that all my Endpoint clients haven't downloaded any Endpoint definitions since 1/13/2015.  If I check the update history on the clients they show that the last time they installed an Endpoint definition update was 1/13/2015.
If I look at the software updates on my SCCM 2012 SP1 server it shows that the last Endpoint definition update downloaded was yesterday (1/14/2015) evening but nothing since then.  It also shows that this Endpoint definition update wasn't downloaded
or deployed as all the Endpoint definition updates have been in the past
The status for the Endpoint definition update ADR says successful and no errors so I'm a little confused as to what's going on here. This has been working fine for over 2 years.
Any suggestions as to where to look to try and diagnose what's happening?
    Thanks
    Nick

    Hi,
I have reviewed the ruleengine.log.  I looked at the ruleengine.lo_ and the ruleengine.log files.  The ruleengine.lo_ shows this from last night:

so not sure what that means.  I manually ran the Endpoint Definition update ADR from the SCCM console and after doing that it SCCM did appear to download and deploy the latest Endpoint definition from MS. Though interestingly enough if I now look at
the status of the Endpoint Definition update ADR it has a status that says:
0X80072EE2 Network connection: Windows Update Agent ecountered transient network connection-related errors
and if I look at the ruleengine.log file I see the following:
Downloading content with ID 16997511 in the package  $$<SMS_RULE_ENGINE><01-15-2015 11:08:49.618+480><thread=1044 (0x414)>

But it appears that this didn't prevent the ADR from working correctly as all my clients seem to have pulled down the latest Endpoint Definition update from the SCCM server.
This morning I also went to the Software section and initiated a "Synchronize Software Updates" from the SCCM console.  In the SCCM console the Software Update Point  Synchronization status shows the last sync completed and the status
is 0x0000.  I looked a the wsyncmgr.log and wsyncmgr.lo_ files and they don't seem to show any errors.
What triggers the ADR to run?

  • GDM loaded and active, but not showing login-screen.

    Hello Archers!
At the very beginning I would like to say "Hello" to all forum users!
I recently started using Arch Linux, after moving from Win8.1 to Ubuntu and then to Arch. I've went through a struggle of installing proprietary AMD graphic card drivers and finally managed to get it working. Although that was achieved with a little sacrifice - GDM stopped working. I can still run Gnome with "startx", but I can't get login-screen to work. Any ideas what happened and how to get it working?
I'm using xorg115 and proprietary AMD graphic drivers.

    EDIT
    Tried symlinking
    /usr/lib64/dri
    to
    /usr/X11R6/lib64/modules
And made that error in Xorg log disappear. However, gdm is still not working. I'm getting stuck at
[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.
I can still log with other tty and startx manually.

  • Macbook connectivity to internet via airport extreme is flakey

    Hi,
Just bought a brand new airport extreme and I already own a June 2009 Mac book pro w/ snow leopard.
I always run software updater, so the Airport 2009-002 patch/fix is on this system.
I have a strange problem with my connectivity to the internet from my mac via the airport extreme.
Very regularly (and seemingly randomly) the laptops connectivity to the internet will drop out... i.e. websites won't respond, big websites (like google) don't respond to pings or anything. While these internet "drop outs" are happening, i can jump onto my PC (which is connected to the airport extreme via ethernet) and the internet is working fine.
Also, Wifi never drops out through this whole situation. This means that while I can't access the internet, my reception is still FULL and I can SAMBA connect to my PC and with other computers on the network.
It's very strange that purely internet via the Airport Extreme is having these issues.
The Airport is in Bridge mode (which means the ADSL modem/router is the DHCP server). The ADSL modem/router does not have wifi active or anything connected to it (other than the airport).
I've never had any issues with my internet - this is the first. My only real option if this can't get resolved is to return the airport, as this is inhibiting me from working from my laptop.
    Anyone else experience similar issues?
Can someone recommend any course of action to work around this issue?
Is there anymore information this forum needs to debug this problem? How can I obtain this info?
    I hope someone can help.
    Regards,
    Vijay

I seem to be in a very similar predicament, however I'm served even worse:
I'm loosing Internet connection over both LAN and WIFI. And the Airport Extreme does not detect the loss of connection even though the logging indicates the internal ntp client (trying to connect to time.euro.apple.com) fails (already on dns resolution).
Currently, I'm dvlp-ing a shell script that checks 4 websites, and if all 4 are unaccessible, I launch an applescript that restarts my airport extreme basestation.
This however does not always seems to solve the problem. Seemingly I would have to reset the modem.
The problem can - according to me - not be provider related, since it does not occur when the TimeMachine is replaced by a SL-installed mac mini (that however cannnot function as router (yet)).
    Any hints ? anyone ?
I previously had installed an Airport Extreme 10/100 version, which showed the same behaviour. Since the system was out of warranty, I decided to upgrade to a faster system, including TimeMachine, but unfortunately, the problem is still there.
I'm guessing now it could be related to the router being configured in dhcp (getting its ip address over dhcp), but the server provides a static ip address (never changes),... and maybe here there's something fishy.

  • Panic crashes on Intel iMac

I'm getting more frequent "panic crashes" and think they're related to my use of Pages and Numbers, now that I've finally switched to Lion (a few  months ago).  I've had two in the last few days, after none for several weeks.
The last two were preceeded by numerous unintented sleeps while using Pages and Numbers: whenever I opened a document, switched apps, etc.
Any thoughts about why and what I might do to stop them?
    Thanks!!
    Dick

Another crash... but no KP message.
I left my machine for a few minutes and returned to find it had shut down.  When I relaunched, the Console was open and the log below was on the screen.  Any clues?

  • The SxS nightmare has begun.

I always thought the EX1 SxS card could be read on any computer with and express card slot. Not so!!! You actually need a special SxS card reader which costs 400 Euros. Congratulations Sony for the many hidden costs.
Right now when you get an EX1 you still need to get at least 1,500 euros worth of extra batteries, SxS cards and and SxS reader... not counting the extra microphone. Users be aware of that. HDV has its adavantages.

The Kensington is inferior because it does not allow the door protecting the SxS cards to close. Otherwise it works, but it's been discontinued AFAIK so the ones you might see are older stock. If one wishes to operate an EX1 or EX3 with the card door open, then the Kensington works, I have 2 of them but don't use them now that I have 2 MxS holders.
The Delkin did allow the door to close and worked fine, but was replaced by a newer Delkin version which didn't allow the door to close. A call to the Delkin customer service dept. revealed that there were plans to re-manufacture the first card holder but then that plan appears to have been scrapped.
This is why the MxS card holder is now the new kid on the block and is available and shipping at a very low cost even with international shipping charges back to the USA. Doubtless there will be more and more products similar to this available in the future so brand loyalty would probably be tied to price at that point.

  • WSUS Clients

Trying to get WSUS Windows 7 clients to connect using group policy.   I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 hyperv environment.  I can visually see the client pc's on the WSUS server but it states that they have not contaced the
server and I can't place them in a 'Computer Group'.  I've tried using port 80  http://http://server1.abc.com/  and port http://server1.abc.com:8530 with no success.  In IIS I made the Physical Path  C:\WSUS and I've
'enabled directory browsing'.  do I need to do anything else?
Below is one of the logs from the client pcs:

However on my wsus server I'm still getting a yellow explanation mark
On what? On the computer entry? If so, that's pretty normal. Hover over the mark, read the tooltip, and I suspect it will make perfect sense.
and 'change membership' is grayed out.
    Yep!
Within Group Policy on my DC I configured the 'Enable client-side targeting'
    Cuz you did this.
and set the target group to 'WSUS'.
Did you create a target group named "WSUS"?
Is this my supposed to be the OU where my win7 pc's are
I'm not really sure how to interpret/answer this question. The GPO should be linked to the OU where the PCs are. Why wouldn't it?
I've configured the 'Specify intranet Microsoft update service location'
on the client and the DC
Huh? Could you clarify exactly what you configured where... why do you say "on the client" *AND* "the DC"? If you're using Group Policy, there's nothing to configure on the client!

  • Credit taken from my account: Calls made to Tajiki...

Two days ago I was informed my account had been auto-recharged with 10 Euros. I hadn't used this account for 18 months so this seemed a bit out of the blue.
    I cancelled further auto-recharge payments.
Yesterday, I was informed my account had received suspicous activity. I then checked my account and noticed that 4 Euros worth of credit had been taken out and that calls to Tajikistan, Nepal, and Congo had been made.
    Have I been hacked???
    Can I get a refund??

I highly recommend for you to contact Skype Customer Support to check your account to determine if your account has been compromised as well as if you can request a refund.

  • Do Spanish iTunes vouchers work on English Apple devices?

I bought 15 euros worth of itunes vouchers today and i can't get them to work on my iPod. can someone please help me!?

iTunes prepaid cards and gift certificates can be used only on the country of purchase. So Spanish iTunes cards or vouchers cannot be used in the UK iTunes Store, if that's what you mean.
And I would ask you to keep in mind that everyone here is just a fellow user, helping out as we have time, knowledge and inclination. No one gets paid to help in these forums. Posting back begging for an answer only a few minutes after you first asked your question is unrealistic and a bit rude. Have patience and someone will probably respond eventually with assistance, assuming of course that your question is clearly stated and you provide enough information for someone to form a response.
    Regards.
